Oh NOES another CD stuck in the Drive

Hi all, I just joined this forum because i have an exactly the same issue but on a Powerbook G4 1.67Ghz.
Description of the problem:
Well one of the days one of the Powerbook G4's decided to crap out and the DVD/CD drive stopped being recognized in the computer. This computer has a Toshiba 80 GB hard drive (there is a reason to why I said the hard drive type, I will tell you below )
When I go to the System Profiler and look at Disc Burning it says "No burning device was found. If you are using an external device please make sure that it is connected and powered properly"
The CD drive will take CD/DvD's, they spin up and slow down, but will not eject them. Pressing the eject key in OS 10 doesn't do anything, not even if you press the mouse button on boot, pressing "c" on boot doesn't work, pressing the "option" key while booting doesn't find it either.
I have another 1.67Ghz Powerbook G4, it is a fully working one. This computer has a 60GB hard drive, I believe a Toshiba also.
What I did:
So I took both of the computer apart and took the Hard drive from laptop B, and put in in laptop A.
Start up the first laptop and the CD drive is being detected by OS 10. Fully working, ejects the CD on boot and in OS 10.
I take the hard drive from laptop A and put it in laptop B and the darnest thing happens, the CD drive doesn't work anymore!!!
I put in a Mac reinstall disc and try to boot from it, but the laptop doesn't recognize it, and I can't get the CD out.
So I unplug the hard drive from the computer and boot it up, since there is no hard drive it goes to boot from the CD and boots into the window were you can reinstall OS 10.
So whats going on?
It seems like this 80GB Toshiba hard drive is the reason the CD drive is not working! So just to make sure, I took the original 60GB hard drive and put it back, and the CD drive is working fine again.
I have another 60GB HD laying around, it's a HITACHI TravelStar, its a normal Windows HD, doesn't have any Mac logos like the other two had. I tried to use it. Had to format and install the OS via Firewire and still nothing!
So what my guess is, the working hard drive has some kind of special firmware on it, maybe the master/slave issue
Please ask me questions or for details I will try to do my best to answer them or give you that information.

I did notice a lot of people having this issue. So far none of the fixes that worked for them, work for me.
I really think it is the Master/Slave issue...

"the problem is with All apple powerbook which has no designated master/slave assignment. Optical drive and both hdd are assigned ID-0 ie master. For some reason the Op drive get into slave mode and will not response. Sometmes by just removing the battery , diconnect the power supply and resetting the PMU will do the trick. Using anothet computer as start up disk will solve the problem every time in ejecting the locked disk."

Here are some standard remedies.
First try the normal methods to remove the disc. Drag its icon to the Trash can in the Dock or select 'Eject' from the File menu.
Shut down the computer and start up whilst holding down the mouse button. This may take some time, but keep your finger on the mouse button right up until the disc comes out or the log-in screen has appeared.
Open Disk Utility and choose the disc you wish to eject in the left-hand pane, then click on the Eject button.
Some Macintoshes have a paperclip hole that you can insert a straightened paperclip into, manually triggering the eject mechanism.
Open Terminal and type "drutil tray eject" to eject the disc/tray, and "drutil tray close" to close the tray.
If your computer has an eject button on the keyboard, restart the computer holding down the Option key. When the startup disk selection screen appears, let go of the option key and press the keyboard's eject button.

Boot with the option key down. You will see a window showing all the bootable systems. Select the OSX boot and hit return. Once you are booted into OSX, use the Startup Disk system preferences to change your default boot volume.

Opening my iMac - CD stuck in the drive

Hey, I'm in serious need of help, if anyone has a second. My sister stuck a CD in the drive of our intel iMac while she had honey on her hands, and it's stuck in the drive now. Would you believe she's 16? Haha.
But seriously, we need to crack the iMac open and manually remove the disc and clean the drive, and if anyone knows how this is done, advice would be very well appreciated. Thanks!

I second the motion to take the iMac in for service. It's not just the CD that could be the issue here, but the optical drive too.

You failed to mention what kind of Mac you have... there are two different kinds of DVD drives.
with a Mac Pro, the dvd drive has a tray, so you just manually open the drive door (a damp fingertip helps) and firmly push a straightened paper clip into the small hole below the tray on the right side. This forces the opening gears to turn, unseating the tray. Hook the edge of the tray and gently slide it out.
The laptop "slot loading" drives are more difficult.

DVD stuck in the drive, and the computer realises it is in there

I have had a look through previous posts about dvds being stuck, but there was nothing similar to what has happened to my MBP's drive.
The DVD that is inside it will not come out. When I press eject, it makes the sounds as if it is ejecting the DVD and the DVD logo displays from the desktop but it does not come out. The drive then thinks the DVD has been inserted and the logo reappears on the desktop. The computer realises there is a dvd in the drive and I can watch the movie, but I just can't get it out.
I have tried eject the button, going to file to eject, I have also rebooted and held down the eject button, but the dvd will not come out.
The computer is only 2 weeks old and nothing like this has happened before

From what I understand your operating system sends eject signal ok to the drive ..so trying to do it in another way is unlikely to help...there are many ways of doing it but at the end same message is transmitted to the drive and if it doesn't eject it it just won't
This sounds like a hardware problem ..try tilting your macbook pro sideways as if the cd is now pulled by gravity and try to eject ..or even upside down ..this will make the drive mechanism move ever so slightly inside and may cause it to release the disc

My Imac won't start. Its stuck on the Apple screen with the little gear going around. Other discussion have suggesting trying to boot directly from the install disc, which I want to try but can't because when it crashed there was a DVD in the optical drive and I now cannot remove it.
Any suggestion on how to remove it as a first step to fixing the start up screen issue!

My mac was being slow.. i tried a lot of stuff but finally decided to just clear the disk and reinstall snowleapord. I had done this before and solved the problem slowness issue. I stuck the DVD in the drive before restarting but when I tried to boot from it the disk just spun but didn't boot. the mac booted from my harddrive just like normal.. I've tried everything to get it out. Holding down the mouse, drutil eject tray in terminal, disk utility, booting and holding eject.. Nothing has worked. the disc spins on waking up or starting up but it is never recognized, its never on the desktop doesn't show up in disk utility.. I don't know what to do at this point and i think its starting to effect my mac. Spinning wheel on almost every application and obviously battery problems from the disc being spun every time i open it in class. Its finals week and i need my mac for notes/papers/tests etc.. so i cant take it to the nearest apple store for a couple weeks.. please help. thanks!

Try pressing the eject button in the top right corner of your keyboard (it the one next to volume increase).

Hi. Having trouble getting the superdrive on my daughters circa 2009 mac mini to eject discs. Even the 'hold down mouse button on restart' trick isn't working now and there's a disc stuck in the drive. Anyone out there with a fix? Here's hoping :-)

It doesn't seem to matter whether it's a DVD or a CD it just won't eject :-(

Is there a very small pin hole, just inside the drive opening on the right? If true, you can very gently press the tip of a paperclip into this hole (with the machine on) to eject the disk.
With the mini off. Turn it upside down and thunk the bottom with your hand a couple of times. This may dislodge that stuck drive sufficiently to allow normal eject.
It may be possible to (again gently) pry up on an edge of that stuck disc with an old, unused credit card.
If you made it this far, better make an appointment with an Apple store to have the drive removed, disassembled, and reinstalled. If you go this route, might as well upgrade the memory too if it needs it.
