OIM11gR1 (11.1.1.5) and LdapSync failover

Hello All,
I have one OIM 11gR1 and two OIDs:
OIM
OID1
OID2
OIM uses LdapSync to synchronize users with OID1.
OID1 uses LDAP Replication feature to synchronize OID2.
I want the OIM LdapSync to failover to OID2 in case OID1 becomes unavailable.
What are my choices?
a) Can I manually reconfigure LdapSync to point to OID2 (where do I modify this? can you give me a link a doc?)
b) Can LdapSync be configured with OID1 and OID2 and it will failover automatically? (how do I set this up? can you give me a link a doc?)
c) If I want automatic failover is a load balance appliance required?
Thanks,
Adr

I've found this:
http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E21764_01/core.1111/e10106/imha.htm#CDEFFAFA
When you enable LDAPSync to communicate directly with external Directory Servers such as Oracle Internet Directory, ODSEE, and Microsoft Active Directory, support for high availability/failover features requires that you >configure the Identity Virtualization Library (libOVD).
To configure libOVD, use the WLST command addLDAPHost. To manage libOVD, see Managing Identity Virtualization Library (libOVD) Adapters in the guide Oracle Fusion Middleware Administrator's Guide for Oracle Identity >Manager for a list of WLST commands. But I couldn't find anywhere a statement saying the LdapSync setup will automatically failover.
Have anyone done that before?

    Connection failover and transaction failover
I need to know more about a behavior in a RAC cluster. When a node goes down that is executing one of my transaction through JDBC , does the connection and transaction failover to a new node without me needing to restart tran or reconnect ?
    Please provide some insight
    Thanks

Transactions are NOT automatically rolled back. The application must do this otherwise the session will get disconnected.
If you code TAF, all sessions will failover to the backup connection. You can specify that select statements are automatically re-executed after the failover. Insert/update/delete transactions must be explicitly rolled back and resubmitted by the application.
IF you are using an ORacle Connection pool, the connection pool will automatically cleanup connections to the failed instance, abort inflight transactions. The application will either retry or it will propagate the error to the end user.

  • New Note 790189.1 - Oracle Clusterware and Application Failover Management

    Hi all,
please, note the newly created Metalink Note 790189.1 - Oracle Clusterware and Application Failover Management if you want to use Oracle Clusterware as a general purpose cluster solution. The note intends to clarify and to explain the current situation in regards to the supportability of applications managed by Oracle Clusterware.
In environments not including Oracle RAC, Oracle Clusterware still provides the level of high availability that is commonly known to be achievable for applications and databases managed in (failover) cluster environments. These environments can include Oracle Single Instance Databases, Oracle Application Servers, Oracle Enterprise Manager components, third party databases, or any other kind of application. (For more information on Oracle Clusterware 11g in general, please, refer to [Oracle Clusterware homepage|http://otn.oracle.com/clusterware].)
Metalink Note 790189.1 - Oracle Clusterware and Application Failover Management is tightly integrated with the information on application failover management available on the [Oracle Clusterware homepage|http://otn.oracle.com/clusterware] and discusses typical questions like
    * Terminology
    * Script supportability and preconfigured agents
    * How to prove that action scripts work outside of Oracle Clusterware
    * Supportability of the Oracle Database Single Instance example scripts
    * How do I know whether a certain script is supported as a preconfigured agent?
Metalink Note 790189.1, however, does not change the level of support that has been introduced for these kind of configurations as of Oracle Database 10g Release 2: "Generally, Oracle does not support action scripts in the strict terms of supporting individual code fragments. Oracle fully supports the integration of individual action scripts proven to run outside of Oracle Clusterware into the Oracle Clusterware management stack. Supported operations therefore typically involve crs_* commands such as crs_profile, crs_register, crs_setperm, crs_getperm, crs_start, crs_stop, and crs_relocate invoked on custom resources. If actions scripts are used as part of a preconfigured agent, Oracle or the application provider who provides the agent will support the integration of this agent, while only the application provider will provide support for the individual action scripts."
    Just for your information. Thanks,
    Markus

  • Data Guard Broker and Cold Failover clusters

    Hi,
I wanted to use Data Guard Broker to control primary/standby systems on AIX clusters but found that without Oracle clusterware it is not supported on failover of a database to another node (unless you drop and recreate the configuration which in my opinion is not support at all!).
The 11g documentation states that DG Broker offers support for single instance databases configured for HA using Oracle Clusterware and "cold failover clusters".
Does anyone know whether this support for cold failover clusters in 11g means "proper support" i.e the configuration detects that the hostname has changed and automatically renames it so it continues to work?, or is the support in 11g the same as that in 10g?.
    Thanks,
    Andy

    Hi Jan,
    We already use virtual hostnames.
When I set up the configuration the hostname for the databases default to the server name. The only way I know of changing this is to disable the configuration, then use the "edit database...set property" command but when I enable the configuration again it reverts back to its previous value.

  • Load balancing and transparent failover in RAC 11g

    Hi,
The only way to configure load balancing and transparent failover in RAC 11 g R2 is using the clauses LOAD_BALANCING and FAILOVER on the tnsnames.ora of application server. Is that correct?

If the database is admin-managed, I shall suggest that rather than playing with the remote_listener parameter , set one service as preferred for one instance. For the other service, let it be preferred on both the nodes. The service with just one instance as Preferred won't be able to use loab-balancing as there is just one instance available for its disposal.

  • LRT224 Load Balancing and Link Failover

Hi, I am new to this forum. I have recently set up the LRT224 with two different ISP's. I am having problems configuring the Load Balance and Link Failover.
When I have Load Balance selected only one ISP (WAN 1) is active, the other (WAN2, ISP modem) remains inactive. Why is Load Balance only engaging one ISP?
When I have Link Failover selected, even with attempts and seconds configured to one second, and WAN1 has packets lost, it doesn't switch over to WAN2.
I am not tech savey but any help will be greatly appreciated so that I can get both ISP's active with Load Balance or at least have Link Failover work almost instantly. Thanks.

    Hi @BSue2015,
If both WAN1 and WAN2 are already getting IP Addresses from your ISPs then we can say that Load Balance is working. To check it further, do a speed test by going to http://www.speedtest.net. Dual WAN connections are doubling the amount of available full speed connections due to the load balancing. The speed should have its maximum throughput even if you have several users on the network.

  • PO for LAN failover and stateful failover link?

Hi.. We have 2 x ASA 5520s running ver 9.0. We plan to aggregate the 2 interfaces used for LAN failover and stateful failover into a lacp PO. So both the ASAs are connected to each other directly using these 2 interfaces and then we logically make it a one PO. We then assign the PO intface an ip. Is this supported?

You can use any unused interface (physical, redundant, or EtherChannel) as the failover link. (Source)
That said, It would be an uncommon implementation. I almost always see them on separate physical interfaces.

  • IOS SLB and DNS failover

    Hi, there:
Is that possible I could use IOS SLB and DNS failover automatically?
    i.e:
    vip 10.1.1.1
    vip 10.2.1.1
    dns records:
    vip1 10.1.1.1 10.2.1.1
    normal condition:
    vip1 will be 10.1.1.1
when 10.1.1.1 failed it will give 10.2.1.1
Is that something it could be done on IOS SLB, or other devices?
real services are udp based.gtp service
    Thanks,

Yes, IOS server load balancing and the DNS failover can be done automatically. Is this not working currently? Can you posts the configuration so that we can check where the problem is.

  • Installing SCVMM 2012 r2 in a VM on Hyper-V 2012 and windows failover cluseter

    Hi,
I am planning to configure scvmm 2012 r2 that will be managing 30 hyper-v host servers, please guide me will it be ok if i install and configure both scvmm 2012 r2 and sql server 2012 on same VM running on Hyper-V Failover Cluster ?
    Regards,
    Afzal
    [email protected]

    Hi,
Like most of the time, there is a lot of possible topology to achieve your design.
Installing VMM and the database in a virtual machine on the same cluster that it manage is a supported scenario.
The first question you have to ask is : What is the availability level i need for my VMM infrastructure ?If
you shutdown the SCVMM instance for patching, you are not able to deploy new VM from template, and not able to create and manage Virtual Networks. It don't affect existing VM or Virtual Networks. Does this break your SLA ?
Most of the time, VMM don't need a guest cluster (unless you are a hosting provider with provisionning portal
    available 24/24 7/7).
The main advice i will give you is :
Keep it simple as possible !
Don't build complex infrastructure if you don't need to achieve a very hight level of availability.
Availability, complexity and management cost have a exponential relation.
For large deployment, you can use a dedicated Hyper-V cluster to deploy System Center and infrastructures services (SCVMM, SCOM etc...) But there is nothing wrong in deploying VMM in the same cluster as the VM it manage. The design you have to achieve should
be thinking in terms of availability and serviceability.
I don't think that 30 Hyper-V hosts need a dedicated SQL Guest Cluster.
If you install VMM on one VM and SQL on another, you will not achieve more performances, but your VMM instance
    will be less "portable".
    Cheer.
    Cedric.

  • Questions on Client Failver and Fast Failover

've few questions regarding Client Failover and Fast Faiolver of Oracle Database HA. Before I ask those questions I would like to explain my environment. Below are the details.
    - We have two physical locations called 'ABC' and 'PQR'
    - ABC is the primary site.
    - PQR is the standby site.
    - In ABC, we have Oracle RAC database (11.2.0.2) with two nodes.
    - In PQR, we have a single server standalone database (11.2.0.2) with ASM. This is not a RAC.
    - Data Guard has been configured between ABC and PQR and it is working as expected.
    - Please note that we have a licence for Active Data Guard.
    - We have Oracle Identity Management products at both ABC and PQR and they are going to use RAC database as a primary database which is in ABC.
    - We did not configure Data Guard broker yet.
We want to achieve below goals:
    Goal 1:
Whenever RAC primary goes down completely, standby database should become primary database AUTOMATICALLY and it should allow read/write operation.
I guess this is called 'Fast Failover'. Please let me know if I am wrong.
    Questions :
    - To make this happen, Do I need to configure Data Guard Broker so that standy database becomes primary when RAC goes down completely with planned or unplanned outage.
    - Let's say RAC goes down completely, how long does Data Guard broker take to make standby db as Primary.
    - What about the client/application who already connected to RAC.
    - Let's standby DB has become as primary and after sometime if RAC comes back , Does data guard automatically changes the role of RAC to primary ?
    Goal 2:
As I explained above, all Oracle IDM products and applications speak to RAC database they only know about RAC database which is primary. They are not aware of standby database.
    - Whenever a client session is in progress with RAC primary database, if RAC goes down completely , we would like to expect client session should get transferred standby datbase without loosing session information . However before this happens, standby database should become primary becuase client session may perform write operations.
    - Whenever a client is trying to connect to RAC prmary and assume RAC is completely down, we would like to expect client connections should get transferred to standby database.
However before this happens, standby database should become primary becuase client session may perform write operations.
As per my knowledge, above scenarios are called 'client failver'. Please let me know if I am wrong.
    Questions:
    1. Please throw some light to achieve above features.
    2. As per my understanding, before client failover happens, fast failover should have already occured and standby should get switch to primary role. I guess all this happens through TIMEOUT parameters. What are those.
    Could you please help ?
    Thanks

  • Gentoo Linux and Microsoft Failover Clusters / Hyper-V

    Hello,
Hoping there are a few people on the boards familiar with running Gentoo Linux guests under Microsoft FailOver Cluster / Hyper-V hosts.
I have four Gentoo Linux guest VMs (running kernel 3.12.21-r1) running under the Microsoft Failover Cluster system with Hyper-V as the host. All of the Hyper-V drivers are built into the kernel (including the utilities and balloon drivers) and generally they
    run without issue.
For several months now, however, I have been having strange issues with them. Essentially they stop responding to network requests after random intervals. However, these intervals aren't a few minutes or hours from each other; more like days or even weeks before
one of them will stop responding on the network side.
The funny thing is that the VMs themselves on the console side still responds. However, if I issue a reboot command on the externally non-responsive VM, the system will eventually get to a stage where all of the services are stopped and then hangs right after
the "mounting remaining system ro" line (or something like that).
The Failover Cluster Manager then reports that the system is "Stopping" but the system never reboots.
I have to completely restart the HOST system so that either (A) the VM in question transfers to another host and starts responding again or (B) when the HOST comes back up I can work with the VM again.
This *ONLY* happens on the Gentoo Linux guest VMs and not my Windows VMs.
Wondering if anyone has hints on this.
    Thank you for your time.
    Regards, Christopher K.

  • To apply license in FWSM (Active-Active mode) and disable failover

    Dear Team
I want to apply license to increase security context in FWSM which is running in Active-Active mode on VSS Core switches
As per below document, first we need to disable failover by entering 'no failover' command on active FWSM and then apply the license seperately on both FWSM.
I just want to know when i will disable the failover then standby move to pseudo-standby state.
Will there be any services impact which are running behind the FWSM when disbaling the failover and then re-enabling the failover.
    http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/security/fwsm/fwsm40/configuration/guide/fwsm_cfg/swcnfg_f.html#wp1073226
    Appreciate your response.

    Hi,
I think in your case as it is Active/Active , there is one extra step required.
You need to make all the contexts active on one unit and on the other one all should be standby.
Then disable the failover and update the license and re-enable the failover.
    Thanks and Regards,

  • RAC 11gR2 VIP and SCAN failover behavior

I tried to failover testing on 2 node 11gR2 RAC on Linux 5 X86-64 with configure in tnsnames.ora on client side (client side TAF configuration) with the following configuration
    NVSDB =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = dbrac-scan)(PORT = 1521))
    (LOAD_BALANCE = yes)
    (CONNECT_DATA =
    (SERVER = DEDICATED)
    (SERVICE_NAME = NVSDB)
    (FAILOVER_MODE =
    (TYPE = SELECT)
    (METHOD = BASIC)
    (RETRIES = 180)
    (DELAY = 5)
    The test scenario
    1. Connect from client to RAC database , and test query with select * from dba_objects
    2. Open new terminal and connect to instance in step 1 , then shutdown abort
    3. I found that , the session in step 1 not failover to other node , and VIP and SCAN not failover to other node too
In my opinion session , VIP and SCAN should failover to other node.
Or is this the default behavior of VIP and SCAN on 11gR2 ??
    Can anyone suggest me ?
    Thankyou and Regards

    user10139161 wrote:
    3. I found that , the session in step 1 not failover to other node , Which client/driver did you use to try this? The reason I am asking is that TAF is not supported with jdbc:thin, so if you were trying this with sqldeveloper and the defaul driver that would be the expected behaviour
and VIP and SCAN not failover to other node tooThat is also expected. You only stopped the instance, there is no reason to relocatethe VIP. In your case, client could still connect to the listener running on this node, the listener would know of the second instance still being up and redirect all connection attempts there.
What you could try is rebooting the whole server, then you would see IPs being relocated.

  • J4400, linux and heartbeat failover

    Hi all
I am contemplating getting a sun J4400, with two x4150 servers to make a nfs server which has failover to a standby server in case the primary fails, using Linux and heartbeat
I have read that you can connect two servers to a J-series array, but I have the following questions:
    1. Does the J4400 have any disk management built-in or must all be handled by the raid adapters on the connected servers.
    2. If both servers are connected to the SAS connections, do they both have access simultaneously to the drives, or is one blocked from access at the physical level?
    3. If they are blocked, are the raid adapters in the two servers aware of each other to ensure that only one server can see the drives at any time.
    4. If they are blocked, if the primary server fails, how would its raid card 'release' the drives for the other one to be able to take them over.
Anything else I should be aware of for this scenario?
