Apple Remote Desktop is off be default. It has to be enabled for some one to be able to remotely connect to the computer. And then, you still have to have a user name and password on the computer to remotely connect with.
If you want to see if remote access has is enabled for Apple Remote Desktop; you can find the setting in, Apple Menu, System Prefrences, Sharing. If it's enabled, Remote Management or Screen Sharing will be checked.
Beucase Apple Remote Desktop Agent is part of the Mac Operating System; even if your not using it, Apple Software Updates will from time to time offer updates for ARD Agent. Software Updates can some times be stacked ontop of each other; so chosing not to install an update, can mean other updates you may want may not be offered. At least until you install the updates those updates require. Also software updates can improve the security of your computer.

How do you transfer your i tunes account from an old windows lap top to your new Mac?

Drag and drop copy the iTunes folder to a external hard drive on Windows, then take it to the Mac and use iTunes there to import it.
If you want to read/write the external drive between Mac's and PC's, right click on the drive and format it exFAT or FAT in Windows, not NTFS.
Some Mac's can read NTFS, but not write to that format as it's proprietary.
When you format the drive, all data will be erased on it, so make sure before you do so.

Then restore from you Mac laptop's backup, if you have not been backing up then you may be in for a very painful lesson on why backing up is the VERY FIRST thing you should do with any new Mac. Create a backup plan and use it on a regular basis. If the laptop was using 10.5.x or later then you have absolutely no excuse for not backing up. Sorry for being terse and blunt but Time Machine has been built into 10.5.x, 10.6.x and 10.7.x so we have had years to have a seamless and mindless method of backing up. If you have been using an earlier verision of OS X there are quite a number of methods of backing up.
If you aren't successful then take the laptop and iMac to your local Apple Store or AASP and they may be able to help you recover your contacts.

I wonder if it is possible to transfer a 45GB HD (Windows XP OS) to a minicomputer (Windows XP OS). My reason is that I have a laptop that I can no longer access because one keyboard letter does not work, and it happens to be one that Is in my log on password.

Cannot access e-mail from PC or lap top.

I have always been able to access my e-mail from my PC and laptop using my regular Id and password until about 3 weeks ago, when I tried to log into my e-mail and was redirected to a page requiring information before it would allow me to continue. It seems I was assigned a new Id, However, now when I try to log in to my e-mail with this new id, there are no e-mails in the inbox or sent mail, and all my contacts are gone. Now, the only way I can check my e-mail, is from my droid phone which fortunately doesn't require me to log in for access. I would be really grateful if anyone has any info as to how I can get to access my e-mail from my PC and Laptop .

Do you really need to update now, you can't wait until April ? If you try to update via a computer that isn't the one that you normally sync to and which therefore doesn't have all your content on, then you risk losing all your current content from the iPad
