Ok so I reverted back to iTunes 6.05, but what's the deal with QuickTime??

I just followed the directions (posted here: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=642274&start=0&tstart=0) to revert back to iTunes 6.05. I definitely uninstalled iTunes 7 first and restarted my computer afterwards, but when I open iTunes 6.05, I still get the error message about QuickTime not being up to date. Before all of this I had downloaded and installed QuickTime separately of iTunes. I got this error message when I was trying to use iTunes 7 also. Should I downgrade QuickTime or try to reinstall it or something?? What's going on?

uninstall everything that relates to Apple out of the Add Remove programs list
reboot
then get the installer for iTunes 6.0.5 from filehippo.com
re-install itunes
reboot
done

  • Wow! What is the deal with iTunes?

Ever since I upgraded to Leopard, iTunes has been incredibly flaky. It just stops playing songs! Crazy. Very annoying. Tonight, out of the blue, my airport express will show a low signal and iTunes will say there has been some error connecting to my remote speakers. I guess I can see an error with the wireless connection, although it has never happened before, but the deal with iTunes just stopping a song mid stream is really crazy. Very random. Man I should have stuck with Tiger. All sorts of strangeness happening with Leopard, even though I erased and installed. Any thoughts?

What version of iTunes are you running?
What version of QuickTime are you using?
Have you applied the latest updates to your APE?

  • What's the Deal with the iPhone Backup? Where Does It Back Up to?

When my iPhone does its backup thing (and gee I wish I could turn that off permanently but nothing seems to stick in the preferences... have to stop it manually in iTunes each time... anyway...), where does the backup reside? It takes a couple of hours to do a backup, so I'd think there was a lot of actual content being moved to my Mac. But there's 14GB of content on my iPhone and my hard drive isn't losing 14GB of storage space... not even 100MB from what I can tell!
So what's really happening during a "backup"? If I wipe the content off my iPhone with a restore, where will the backup content come from?

On a Mac, the iPhone's backup file is stored at Home > Library > Application Support > MobileSync > Backup.
The iPhone's backup stores data such as most iPhone settings, SMS messages, email account settings, notes, recent calls, call favorites, 3rd party applications or some 3rd party applications and any data created/stored by a 3rd party application, and photos captured by your iPhone.
The backup does not store iTunes content, contact information, bookmarks, or photos transferred from your computer to your iPhone. This data should be available on your computer.
Basically the iPhone's backup stores all data not included with the sync process.
When performing a Restore with iTunes, the options are to restore your iPhone from your iPhone's backup, or as a new iPhone or not from your iPhone's backup.
If you constantly cancel the backup process, this may cause the backup to become corrupt and if you never allow it to finish, you won't be able to restore what should be saved with the backup.
How many 3rd party applications do you have installed and regularly use that create/store data?
And do you have a number of photos that were captured by your iPhone available that have not been imported by your computer and then erased from your iPhone as with any other digital camera?
If so and you regularly capture more photos, these are included with the backup.

  • What is the deal with MP4s and Itunes?

Why does quicktime and Itunes always put "This document could not be opened"/"Quicktime does not support this file type"/"An invalid public movie atom was found in this file". Only about 2 movies have work in Itunes, and one became corrupted and kept making itunes close whenever I played it. WHAT DOES IT WANT? It says it wants MP4/M4V and I've tried both.

What movies? From what source?  While mp4 is more restrictive than some containers it can still hold many variants of audio and video.  iTunes is limited in codec support.
iTunes: Frequently asked questions about viewing and syncing videos - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2729 - including file formats supported by iTunes and on mobile devices, DVDs, etc.
What video content works with iTunes and mobile devices?
    iTunes:
Video content purchased from the iTunes Store.
QuickTime and MPEG-4 movie files that end in ".mov", ".m4v", or ".mp4" and are playable in QuickTime Player.
    Video podcasts.
    iTunes Digital Copies.
iTunes Store Movie Rentals (Requires iTunes 9 or later).

  • What is the deal with the latest release of iTunes?

Ever since I updated iTunes a few months ago it has basically made itself totally useless.  It takes forever to start the program up - it takes minutes and mintues of spinning rainbows to search for music in my library that before was instantly recallable...  The library is obviously parsing the search as soon as you start typing - so if I type in Se...  by the time I type in the second E it's searching for every song in my library that starts with S, then it's searching for every song that starts with Se... etc... then I get half through the word and the stupid GUI freezes and I get to watch spinning rainbows for 45 seconds, then the library displays 250 songs that I wasn't looking for.... How about if the program just WAITS until I am done typing in the name of the song or artist or album and hit ENTER to initiate the search?  I'm pretty  sure I don't sit around going - I want to listen to that one song but I don't remember what it's called - except - didn't it start with Se?  I'll just do a search for that...   It's STUPID!
The latest issue I've had with it is it won't connect my iPod at all!  It just randomly stopped recognizing my iPod.  When I DO get the ipod to show up in the sidebar - after force quitting the program 3 times, restarting the computer (welcome to WIndows OSX), and rebooting the iPod and reconnecting everything - the program spins rainbows for... going on like 15 minutes now...

I assumed you were familiar with search in itunes 10.
However as you are clearly not then the way to search for An Artist is to select filter by artist in the search box
then type in the artist name and it will match that artist or any artist with that as part of the name
For Example I searched for Eric Clapton just using Eric. It found all The Eric Clapton songs but also songs by Jesse Frederick/Bennett Salvay. If I typed in the Ful name of Eric Clapton it just returned Eric clapton

  • Okay, what is the deal with ITUNES plus?

I've read multiple threads and post. I've downloaded the new version. From what I've gathered, it seems only EMI artists are currently part of the ITUNES plus? I also understand you are "supposed" to be getting a better quality of sound from artists you download from Itunes Plus? Furthermore, I see they increased the price for a single download for any artist associated with ITUNES plus. Now... anyone care to explain to me what all this mention of DRM-free means? Does this mean we can actually convert our purchases to mp3's and upload them up to our non-apple music player? Because this is all I care about at this point. However, since it's only restricted to EMI artists and I haven't a single tune downloaded from that companies' artists, this new version means squat to me. Does this mean, eventually the other companies will jump on the band wagon, and we'll be able to finally convert our music to play on any music player? I hope so. But for now, it just seems like Apple just found a way to charge us more for their songs. Hmmm?
      Mac OS X (10.4.9)

Almost since the inception of iTMS and later iTS the Internet has been rife with people complaining about Apple's use of DRM on music tracks. Obviously no record company was going to sign up to DRM-free music on the first day of iTMS as it seemed obvious that it would be onward distributed with no financial recompense to the record company so DRM was used to allow the track to be played on five computers and any number of connected iPods (very generous really). However acknowledging the discontent around the globe Apple's CEO Steve Jobs wrote his Thoughts on Music. Shortly after that EMI obliged Apple's request and agreed to offer DRM-free music that you could potentially totally abuse and send to all your friends (Don't though). Apple and EMI believe that, in actual fact, the ease of iTS will mean that people won't do that but they will actually buy music themselves. Actually iTunes Plus trackscontain your iTS username so it's traceable.
    Advantages of iTunes Plus:
256k (vs 128k) encoded tracks - better quality for the serious audiophiles.
DRM-free means you can load your tracks on to your generic mp3 player/mobile phone etc.
Freedom - not tied in to the iPod platform (a big risk to Apple IMHO).
    Disadvantages of iTunes Plus:
    Higher cost.
Greater file size = less tracks on your iPod.
    EMI tracks only.
I think it's a good idea to offer the choice, and a few cents extra for the freedom is probably worth it. I see this as Apple driving and leading the music industry to improve the service for us the customer. Happy Days.

  • What is the deal with iTunes matching Explicit tracks with Clean tracks?

At first, I thought this was great. I started matching all of my music with iTunes versions. Got about halfway through, and realized some songs on some albums were explicit, and others were clean. At first, I thought it was cause there was only a Clean Version of the album available on iTunes, so I resolved that problem, just don't match albums that there isn't an Explicit version for. But for example, Lil' Wayne's Tha Carter 3, the version I have had 23 songs. iTunes didn't have the Target bonus tracks, as I expected, so I didn't worry about those, and matched the rest. Songs like A Milli is explicit like it's suppose to be, but on the same album, Mrs. Officer is Clean. I don't understand how that's possible, I figure it would match a full album, but that doesn't seem to be the case. So because of that, some of these albums I've matched so far may not be matched as full albums, but rather whatever version of the songs iTunes first matches, so the mastering for a full album could be completely different all over the album because of this.
Anyone know any kind of fix for this, or is this not something that could be fixed?

Interesting tid bit.  I created an AAC of the original file, deleted the original MP3 from my library and also deleted the Clean matched track from the icloud.
Result is that it matched with the explicit version of Mrs. Officer this time.
What I am curious about is which songs this is happening for. I've went thru a few batched of about 500 songs at a time and redownloaded in 256k for many tracks. Sadly we don't have people to bring this to our attention and I have so much music that it's impossible to go thru every song to make sure I am getting the right version.

  • What is the deal with iTunes Radio?

So just tried out the iTunes Radio as an alt to pandora and heart radio . Something weird started happening though. I figured classic video game music would be a pretty good thing to study too so I set it and the first 2 songs are ok. That's when I start getting songs that aren't related to gaming at all. Next I get 2 linkin park songs avenged sevenfold and Bon jovi. While these aren't bad songs they don't have anything to do with the channel called " video game orchestral music"
I finally drew the line when it literally picked a Kelly Clarkson song. ***? ***? Am I failing at using the radio right or what's going on what is this I don't even

Cmon man it just played justin beiber ***

  • What is the deal with OS X Lion and iTunes not launching

I installed OS X Lion and loved the new features. The second day I wanted to launch iTunes and got an error. I had to remove OS X Lion and re-install Snow Leopard so I can get iTunes to run.

iTunes runs just fine on Lion.
Since you've reinstalled Snow Leopard we can't help you diagnose your issue.

  • What is the deal with itunes now?

It won't let me add music properly to my iPhone.  It keeps saying so and so file not synced iPhone was disconnected during transfer.  I never touched it at all.  I am having alot of issues with this.  I can't remove purchased music from my iPhone now either.  I just want a specific set of music on their not everything I purchased HELP!

How could anyone possibly know as you've provided no details.
What happens when trying to play the media in question?
    Any errors?
Is there an ! to the left of the media?  If so, this means iTunes is unable to locate the media file.

  • What is the deal with itunes

All I want to do is well...simple. I want my songs to be on my external hd, so I want into settings and set my preference for where the files are to be played from, then after I delete itunes from music folder on my macs hd, it replaces itself moments later, why is this such an issue?
Also front row doesn't see my audio files, why ?

My point is: If you dont keep music on internal drive then it cannot be seen in front row, if so then how, that was my question.
I figured it out. you are correct it is just the library files on the hd, my mistake, something was wrong , not sure what but works now, it seemed that you could only use your music files via the itunes folder which had me furious since I just spent 200 on an external, somehow it works now so Im happy.
I had to unselect in itunes prefrence another option to not copy folders to itunes library and to not let it organize it, think that is what the issue was.

  • What is the deal with iTunes 8?

I just tried to begin burning my own cd's into iTunes 8 before I receive my new iPod, which will require version 8. Having freezing problems, which I NEVER had before with old iTunes versions. Anyone have any solutions/advice? This is ridiculous. Thanks for any replies.

look at what I said in the "really slow burn speed" thread that I started. There I posted info about http://www.oldapps.com/itunes.htm Your problem should be temporarily fixed until your new ipod "demands" the new iTunes. I don't think anyone knows a workaround for that, though.

  • What's the deal with backing up files to a cd rw?

I must be having a dummy problem. help files seem to be sending me in circles. To backup individual files to a cd rw in Windows, all I did was drag the file to the cd rw and I could later easily overwrite the file just by dragging the newer version in. It seems a big project in OS X, ending with the cd being closed, not allowing the file to be overwritten. Can anyone point me to a link on how to do this? sheesh...
    thanks,

Thank you. About four hours after I wrote that I remembered in XP I need a third party app to do that and was wondering if that might be the deal.

  • How to undo an iBooks conversion and revert back to iTunes

Apple listens if enough people complain.  If you hate the current implementation of iBooks, send Apple feedback here:
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/ibooks.html
I'm starting this thread as a central place to collect ways of either:
    A. Preventing a conversion from iTunes to iBooks
    B. Reverting back to iTunes after a conversion
Here's what I've seen in the community so far:
Kevin Edgecomb's solution for reverting back:
Re: Not impressed! No edit info, no library management!
Andy Epprecht's solution for reverting back, building on Kevin's:
Re: Not impressed! No edit info, no library management!
Any other solutions for prevention or reversion?

    And here's Andy Epprecht's refinement:

Re: Not impressed! No edit info, no library management!

A small refinement or let's say alternative to Kevin's wonderful solution:
    1.) Stopped the bookstoreagent process.
2.) Moved its file to elsewhere (Documents) so it wouldn't start up again on reboot.
Now assuming that you want and have organized all your media (music, video, book, pdf, etc.) in your 'iTunes Media' folder:
    3) Opened up iTunes, made sure I had checked 'Copy files to iTunes Media folder when adding to library' in iTunes >Preferences>Advanced
4.) Went to iTunes>File>Library and checked 'Consolidate library' (and all my files (books/pdf's) magically reappeared (got copied back) in my iTunes Media folder (with all tags and so on like they used to be)
    5.) Counted to ten.
6.) Restarted iTunes, saw all my stuff still there.
7.) Deleted iBooks for Mac (maybe wise to backup it to some external drive before), and the books in the new iBooks storage folder (that's in:
    ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.BKAgentService/Data/Documents/iBooks)
8.) Synced to my iPad, and was, yea, verily happified.
    For whom it helps.

  • Reverting back to itunes 6.0.5 wont work

when i tried to reinstall itunes 6.0.5 beacause of the trouble with version 7, there is no file that says previous itunes libraries. what's goin on?

Apple better get their act together soon. I was considering on upgrading my 3rd Gen. Since all the problems with the iTunes 7, I'm holding off. This is very frustrating and a waste of time. It's amazing that they release a piece of software this troublesome. The trouble seems pretty widespread and not just a single problem.
The failed installation caused major boot issues and conflicts. They did not exist before I attempted to install version 7. If I end up having to do a clean install of my OS due to the problems caused, no more iPod. It's already caused me to spend too much time trying to correct the problem.
