Okay I've just about had it

Ever since updating to Itunes 7.0 when I plug in my Ipod it will start to update and then it freezes completely, it wont update or run at all and I have not been able to put anything new on my ipod for about a month now and I am really ticked off about it.
All I want to do is add stuff to my Ipod but no, Apple has to have the worst software on the planet. I tried this other place that someone linked in another Itunes problem topic, EphPod I think it was called. But that failed too. I am using I believe a 4th Generation 60 GB Ipod and I've had it for about 6 months and I never had any sort of problems before updating to Itunes 7.
If there is anyone that can help me I'd really appreciate it because I am extremely desperate.

I initially had a similar problem with my iPod. I had to do a firmware update and a restore.

So, I have just about had it. For nine days now,  I have valiantly tried to move my library to an external drive. At first, I attempted to move it to my 2TB Time capsule. iTunes didn't like its new home though and moved home without telling me. So then there were two libraries. I meshed them back together reluctantly and iTunes in a silent revolt, absolutely refused to use its own 'Keep Library Organized' criteria and may as well have thrown my music against the wall. Seriously, my 5 year old nephew has his computer files better managed. Then I bought a 3TB Time Capsule and you may ask yourself why??? Well, iTunes doubled in size- although when I ran apps that are designed to find duplicate iTunes files, it deleted the music I actually bought from iTunes. So then I watched as iTunes got it back. How you ask; I run a MacBook Air, iMac and Mac mini in my house - as soon as one powered up it hit the net like a sailor on leave and re-downloaded it all without abandon. I tried to keep the libraries separate, no success there. I tried to keep them unified; iTunes response was to ask me if I wanted to join iTunes Match every time I logged on to my computer and on any computer - my iTunes match song number has been as high as 24,367 and as low as 11,112. And I can't simply refuse iTunes. No one refuses iTunes. Refusal to allow iTunes Match to run through all 24000 songs again was to revoke my rights to the songs that were once part of my library. If I took a long time to decide or was visibly impatient while iTunes did its little 3 hour scan it would arbitrarily decide that music I bought from iTunes was ineligible for iTunes Match. How could that possibly be??? I am missing music, or at least iTunes tells me so by showing me that lovely exclamation point. I have tried backing up my computer to do a full system restore and start all over. Time Capsule claims I have 979 GB of data and takes its sweet time to even back up one gig (about 18 minutes) even though I can transfer files to my Time Capsule at about 1 GB every 40 seconds. I guess though performing back-ups are somewhat like government jobs; it will get done, when it gets done. The back up requirement of 979 GB is surprising though, my Mac claims that I currently occupy just about 25% of my 2TB drive. The discrepancy, who knows, but I think the solution lies somewhere in iTunes. But maybe iPhoto. But that is for another time.

After admittedly only a quick read the one thing you don't say is how you are trying to make this move.  Most people with moving library issues do it the wrong way.  Plenty of web sites tell you how to do it the wrong way.
If the iTunes application is started before the drive with the library is fully mounted and awake iTunes will revert back to the internal drive.

  • I've just about had it with Lion

I've just about had it with Lion.  I am suffering such severe performance problems with it on my iMac that I'm seriously considering either downgrading to Snow Leopard or running Windows 7 in Boot Camp on the box.
My iMac is a 2.66 GHz iMac Core 2 Duo with 4GB of RAM, which is a decent specification.  I am running the latest, fully patched 10.7.2 version of OS X and the performance is absolutely terrible.  Pretty much every operation of any significance that I perform results in the spinning beach-ball.  Even just switching between things like Firefox and Finder causes major delays.  I have searched high and low on these forums and tried everything, including repairing permissions, etc. and the problem is still the same.
The problem I think is related to I/O.  All methods of access to the disk is incredibly slow, including USB file transfer, network file transfer, and even moving a file from one part of the disk to another part of the same disk.  The problem is there in Finder and also when doing a file copy using the command line.  I had no such problems with Snow Leopard on the same computer but as soon as I put Lion on there, I lost the entire performance of the machine.  In desperation, I even completely re-formatted my disk and reinstalled Lion and as soon as I started it up, with the factory fresh OS, I had performance issues right from the start.
The only conclusion I can come to is that Lion does not work well on some older Macs.  I had no idea why, but I know that I am not alone.
If anyone has any suggestions, I am more than happy to hear them to prevent me from having to downgrade the box, but unless I can fix this then that will have to happen.
    Thanks,
    Ian.

This 17" Early 2011 MacBook Pro with the fast and blessed Snow Leopard will be my last Mac and this is coming from a Mac user from day one, even before with the Apple IIe.
I don't like Lion because of the direction Apple is taking OS X and it's UI changes, Internet installs etc.
Apple needs to learn what happened to Ubuntu when it mandated Unity UI and didn't give Linux users choice like they once had, they all flocked to Linux Mint instead.

A lot of people don't know but EFI (the firmware in Mac's) was designed by Intel for the chief purpose of Digital Rights Management, basically standing between the operating system and the hardware and watching everything going on, reporting it over the Internet, stoping the OS calls to the hardware to play back media etc.
    http://www.uefi.org/about/
It's not like the old firmware of old, it's really a whole operating system unto itself. Programs can be installed in EFI, in fact I do so with rEFIt, which allows my Mac's to triple and quad boot other operating systems. (note, won't work reliably with Lion only Snow Leopard, requires updating)
    http://refit.sourceforge.net/
Intel also designed Thunderbolt, so I'm suspectign there is some sort of DRM scheme going on with Thunderbolt monitors.
If Apple mandated DRM checking in Lion, naturally if you've got EFI taking up more processor cycles, that's going to slow your machine down.
Also you might not know this, but for Early 2011 Mac's when Apple rolled out Lion, there was a series of Mac bricking EFI firmware updates. I had a bad suspicion and didn't apply the updates, becaue I frankly don't need Lion internet Recovery. So I'm suspecting there is a WHOLE lot of monkey business going on in EFI recently as Apple exerts more control in this area.
The only conclusion I can come to is that Lion does not work well on some older Macs.  I had no idea why, but I know that I am not alone.
Lion added more bloat that makes older hardware slower, it's been tested Lion is slower than Snow Leopard. It's how Apple gets you to upgrade hardware, by bloating down the OS and programs.
I've tried Lion on a 15" Intel Core 2 Duo MBP and reverted it back to Snow Leopard. Slow downs, video issues etc.
I don't recommend installing Lion other than on Early 2011 Mac's and later.
If anyone has any suggestions, I am more than happy to hear them to prevent me from having to downgrade the box, but unless I can fix this then that will have to happen.
You did a fresh install, that would have cured any performance issues with defragmentation or bad install.
You can't upgrade your hard drive in iMac's to 7,200 RPM, because Apple has placed proprietary something on it for heat monitoring, so your screwed there for buying a closed box.
So yes, upgrade to 10.6.8 and remain there on that machine, there is nothing you can really do.
    Welcome to the crowd.

  • Just about had it with N97 GPS

I've tried just about everything to get the GPS on my phone working, without success. Even had my phone in repair for 3 weeks, it worked after that. Using 'location' I could get a fix quite fast and pretty precise. But when I restored the data from my backup it stopped working again. After that I tried a hard reset, afterwards restoring my data by synching with Ovi Suite, it worked again. And after the update to Maps 3.03, it was gone AGAIN. Now I've ben resetting it as if I have nothing better to do but nothing gets it working again... I have had it with this phone's GPS, it's clear that it's a pure software fault... Any possible ideas on a fix?

    I have to agree completely.!
I have hard and soft reset my N97 over 10 times in the last 6 months trying to get GPS Navigation to work.
Ever since the update for Free Maps from Nokia the GPS just refuses to work, whereas before it worked like a dream.
I have emailed and taken it to the Service Centre and the get it to work without any updates or free maps and then give it back.  Obviously as soon as the phone tries to update or receive Free Maps from Nokia the GPS stops again.
I had just become used to using my N97 for GPS in the car and was even recommending it to friends as a better option than having to buy a separate GPS.  Now its just turned in to a huge headache that Nokia wants nothing to do with.  I would welcome any Nokia contact about this, but i wont hold my breath.
WHAT HAPPENED TO YOU NOKIA ?

  • Just about had it with Apple - they really don't care!

I’ve got to say that I’m just about finished with Apple! For nearly two weeks now it has been virtually impossible for me to download apps onto my iPad 2 or iPhone 4S. The apps start downloading, get part way then stop and start downloading again. Eventually I get a message saying the app cannot be downloaded at the moment. On the very rare occasion (only 2 apps ou tof an attempted 12) when I can get an app to install, and iTunes tries to download it onto my computer, the same happens and I get an err 8008. I tried raising a support ticket with Apple, only for some support guy to not bother reading my message properly and ignore the fact that this is happening on 3 differen tdevices. I have spent over £1,200 pounds at the Apple store in less than amonth. The iPad and iPhone are being returned this week for a full refund – I’m getting Android devices! Apple don’t care as long as they’re getting the cash!

  • Just about had it with iphone bashers ~vent~

I just wanted to vent a little bit because i am, amongst most of you all here... sorta obsessed with this phone/brand otherwise i wouldn't be here...i wanted to say that i am sick of typing in google: verizon iphone and reading posts with tons of iphone bashers! Look i am in a university studying computer science / engineering and it doesn't take a friggen genis to realize that if it wasn't for apple and their "Innovative" ideas + success then your stupid **bleep** droids wouldn't have came along. I am so sick of hearing the bull**bleep** that apple is a "closed" os? look at your **bleep**! You gotta charge ur phone 3 times a day ( at least from my experience i know that is true on the incredible) and kill your friggen apps multiple times a day just to preserve it ? annoying much? oh and let verizon load your phone up with crapware while your at it.  Believe me, i can find ways around apples closed system such as other people have done so as well. So take your droid and the crappy flakey unperfected os elsewhere and get off of apples success!
    okay ~breathes~
    ahh almost time!!!

  • I've just about had it. Bill keeps increasing by about 30 PERCENT each month!

I don't freaking understand this company.   I bought what I thought would be a simple plan.  Internet, and a cell phone.   I understood that my second bil would be more then my first due to some adjustments,  but $359 a month??   Every time I get a bill I get a note on it stating that there were changes made to my plan so there are extra charges.  I've only made one change in about four months.   This is just absolutely nuts.   If this keeps going (and it wont cause I'm cancelling this insanity)  by next month my Verizon bill will be more then my rent.   I can get the exact same service through my regular phone provider and pay $200 less a month.   How does this company stay in buisness like this?

I will call customer service as soon as I simmer down a bit.  I think that I have the all in one plan.   I get 8 gigs a month that is shared between my internet and phone.  I haven't gone over this limit yet.
In Septemember I was late with my payment (wasn't working) and my line was disconnected.  Eventually I paid everything that was due and I got reconnected.  At that time I paid a reconnection charge of about 15 dollars,  and my account stated that I was paid in full.
I did not get any notice stating that this reconnection was going to cause any changes to my plan,  or anything that would indicate that my next bill would be twice as much as it should be.
    This is my monthly billing:
    Date
    Payment Method
    Amount
      10/04/2012
      CREDIT CARD
      $279.27
      09/06/2012
      CREDIT CARD
      $200.00
      07/29/2012
      CREDIT CARD
      $96.58
In July I only had the internet, but in August I decided to buy a phone as well from Verizon.  I do understand that when a new plan is added there are additional charges,  but it's been more and more each month, and we're not talking a few dollars here and there.  It's been going up by around 30 percent and more.  Now I just got hit with a Bill for $359 without any notice that for whatever reason I should expect to pay this much.  I'm ASSUMING that my next bill could possibly be around half that amount which is wha I expected to pay per month.  But I'm not holding my breath.

  • I've just about had it with Failed Downloads.

This is a normal thing when it comes to Large File Downloads, and it needs to be addressed.
I can understand the download being stopped if there is some sort of connection error, or my computer goes to sleep...
But for the LOVE of me, I can't effing understand why I can't RESUME MY DOWNLOAD from WHERE IT WAS STOPPED!!!!!
Does Apple do this to **** people off?? Because it's surely working. I hate to rant, but I waited **** near 4 hours for this thing to complete.
Step away for a snack, come back, download has suddenly stopped...
I click the resume option, multiple times, no luck.
What is the **** point in even having a resume button if it's not going to do anything?
I've already started to re-download it, probably won't finish until it's time for me to start my Day anyway, but I want answers on how to fix this and never have it happen again. This is literally the ONLY thing killing my love for Mac Products. It's not the first time, but I hope it'll be the last.

    You're not helping. Thanks anyway.
I've never had this particular issue with any Windows product.
If I downloaded something, and it was stopped, or I paused it half-way through, it was possible to RESUME from where it left off. PERIOD, so long as I have an internet connection.
I've never dealt with a browser that ASSUMES something is resumable or not. And to be completely honest, this has only been happening since I started using Safari... Not firefox, not Chrome, not even Torch. This is a Safari issue. So, someone with any other valuable information that they can pass, I'm all ears. If not, just don't respond, because it isn't helping.

  • Help - I've Just about had it with this INSTALL!!!

Please help. I've been trying to install Oracle Personal 9i on Windows 98 and I can't even get the OUI to run.
No I don't have a Pentium 4. I'm running on an AMD Duron.
I've tried all the tricks that I've read in this forum and elsewhere such as changing the name of the .dll file, or changing the oraparam file with -nojit or giving the absoulte locations of JRE and Source in that same file.
    Nothing works.
The latest error message I get is that it "could not initialize the Java Virtual Machine".
I am about to give up on Oracle, but if anyone can give me that one tip that will at least get my OUI to start I will personally declare you a genius.

    HI ~
I'm trying to get WinXP Pro going with Oracle9i and it has been a total hassle. The OUI blows up with the common JRE error I've seen posted again and again. Just out of frustration I sent a query to Oracle tech support on this, as WinXP is a pretty stable O/S and a major release, but as you might guess I got the standard / canned reply. Seems sad that they won't even help folks get their product installed, but clearly they care mostly about $$$...

  • Just about had it w/ zen mi

i had been using my 2nd micro (2.0.05 beta firmware) for a month and it worked great until today. while transferring songs through media player 0, it froze so i disconnected it and afterwards it would not boot past the 'creative' logo screen. i put it in recovery mode and tried to run 'disk cleanup' and 'format' without any success. there is also a strange sound coming from the micro right after the battery is inserted - its hard to describe but it sounded kind of like a spring going 'boing boing' over and over - this lasts for about thirty seconds. i was left with no choice but to have it RMA'd (again). frankly i'm getting sick and tired of having my micro RMA'd over and over again. when is this going to stop? i've owned an iPod and the zen micro is a better mp3 player but it is plagued by firmware and stability problems. i've never had any firmware or stability problems with my iPod. there isnt a player out there at the moment that i think i'd rather have.. but i dont know whether i'll be keeping my micro once its shipped back to me.

I think it is the hard disk, as thesame happened to my Zen Micro. I must have been "doomed" to fail as you didnt drop it or anything like that.. to bad, you'll have to RMA again.

  • I think I have just about had it!

I am having a QuickTime "stuttering" problem with a 640x480 M4P video I recorded using my Neuros MPEG R2. It plays flawlessly in Realplayer. As so many in this forum have attested, this is a common problem in QT7 under Tiger. Why has this not been addressed? I actually paid money for QT Pro as well, though for what I am not sure.
As a recent convert to the "Mac Side" I have been, by and large, quite satisfied with most of my Mac experience, (other than this problem and my PB audio input failure).
I bought a Mini, love it, bought a G4 PB15", love it and now am hungering for a MacBook and a Nano.
No More! Until I see APPLE act like more of a responsible company than MicroCrud, I will save my money and frustration. I have AppleCare on all my Apple products and have not gotten one iota of help or satisfaction from this (so far) useless "Customer Care" service.
And the "so called" fixes for this stuttering problem are a joke, the "Mac Experience" is supposed to relieve us from the "fixes" rebooting, re-installing, idiot mentality of Windows software and hardware. If I wanted to be a geek/hacker I would have gone with Linux, at least there you have 500,000 programming geekoids trying to help.
It appears that Apple and Mr Jobs just want to act like their products are trouble free and ignore the obvious problems that mar the experience. Customer satisfaction will carry more weight in the long run, than the "Cool Factor". Guys like me who have waited so long to come over expect a better experience than I am having. I will not wait forever.

I use NO third party plug-ins or add-ons. The recorder is used is in its own box with no connection to the Mac. It is like a stand alone VCR/Player.
Not familiar with the unit, so I had to read up on it a bit. As I understand it, this is an "all-in-one" capture device, digitizer, and converter. So, to some extent, there is a "third party plug-in" involed as far as the AVC/H.264 codec implementation is concerned. Is it the source of your prolem? I don't know. But it does make me wonder if the problem can be duplicated. Have you considered posting a sample file that is giving you problems to a server and then seeing if other QT 7 users have the same problem? The idea here should be to fix the problem -- not the blame.
I took the file out (on a CF module), copy it into the Mac and with QuickTime, it stutters. Play it in RealPlayer it doesn't. I have had RealPlayer on the PB since before the QT7x upgrade, never had a problem before.
Like the man said, "If it hurts your arm to lift it in the air, don't lift it in the air." If a file created by one third party works on the player created by another third party company and QT no longer works, then either don't use QT or fix the problem by reverting to the older QT version that does work.
From the "For What It's Worth" department: Purchased an external HDD some years ago specifically for video capture based on a MacWorld product review. Spent the next month arguing with both the manufacturer and Apple. According to one my G4 Ti PB was too slow for capture (even though I could capture video perfectly on a smaller, slower drive) and Apple, of course, said the problem was most certainly in the drive itself. Got tired of dealing with both and bought a second drive from a totally different manufacturer and my problem was solved. Should I now assume that all drives manufactured by the first manufacturer are sub-standard or should I assume it was just the luck of the draw? (FYI, both the laptop and the secondary drive are still "alive and well."

  • I've just about had it.

First I can't sync my address books and iCal anymore since upgrading to 10.5.2 and no help from Apple. Just repeats of stuff I've already done.
Now I can't make a backup using Time Machine on a brand new Timecapsule I paid $500.00 for. What's the point? I didn't need a $500.00 airport extreme base station. I had a base station that worked just fine. I need to back up. I don't want to have to do it manually. I have Time Machine. It's supposed to do it automatically. Well, it won't do it at all.
I keep getting a failed message. When I go to get info it says backup volume could not be found. Well, it's selected in the preferences pane. And it sitting right there on the desktop.
I've searched these discussions for an hour and can't find anyone with the same problem. I'm not useing a third party harddrive. It's an Apple Timecapsule. For what I paid it should work.
I've paid a ton of money for brand new everything. All I've got is the internet. Well, I had that with my old Powerbook and snowy airport.

I've got a Titanium Powerbook I just updated to Leopard because it couldn't connect using 10.3.9. It worked until I ran a software update. Now...nothing. Can't find the timecapsule's airport extreme. Nothing I do helps.
I've also got a tower. It was running 10.3.9 and couldn't find the timecapsule's airport extreme. I updated it to Leopard. It actually did a Time machine backup overnight. Then today...it also can't find the airport. Nothing helps.
The only machine that seems to work with it is the MacBook Pro. Only...Time Machine won't back up wirelessly. I'm going to have to BUY and ethernet cable to do a backup. If I wanted to use a cable, I'd just back up to a fireware external drive.
So the only machine that can go online is the MacBook Pro....only I can't do a timemachine backup to the time capsule. My other two machines can't go online at all anymore.
As far as I'm concerned...Timecapsule is a POS and never should have been released until it reliably worked with every apple product that conceivably would be used with it. Very, VERY disappointed for the $500 I paid. I would not recommend this product to anyone. Waste of money. I may return it and go back to my snow airport.

  • IPod battery just about had it, now acting weird

iPod mini...i know the battery needs to be replaced, but it still works fine when i connect it to my adaptor in my car so i haven't sent it in yet. i just went to attach it to my computer to upload some new songs. the normal "do not disconnect" lit up, but then it made 4 beeping noises and went to the charge screen unanimated. my computer said it disconnected itself. now it is randomly connecting and disconnecting from my computer. what is going on???

I think you may have answered yourself on this one. You admit that your battery is living on borrowed time so it is very likely that it's acting strange because the battery just doesn't have enough juice to behave properly.
Just thought I should mention though....you may benefit more if you post in the correct section for your player. This is the nano section, not the mini.

  • I've just about had it with Dock items disappearing...

I'm getting more than a little ****** at icons disappearing from the Dock. I realize that I must be accidently dragging them off the dock, but is there ANY way to LOCK icons on the dock. A few minutes ago my "Mail" icon disappeard. I was able to make an alias and put it back in the dock, but I'm getting tired of wasting my time LOOKING for an icon when I'm not even sure of the name and then putting it back on the dock.
There, I've posted my rant for the day.

    Baby Boomer (USofA) wrote:
You don't have to make an alias. Just go into the Application folder & drag the Mail icon onto the dock. A Mail icon will appear.
As for not knowing the names of the icons on your dock, if you fan out the dock, the names of the icons appear at the top.
I would just make note of what you have in your dock, write them down & keep it near your computer or take a screen shot of the dock & place the pic in your HD for safe keeping.
Re dragging, maybe the "mail" icon is different. In the past when other icons disappeared from my dock, if I when into Applications and dragged them to the dock, the Icon in question also stayed in the Applications folder. When the "mail" icon is dragged, it disappears from the folder. I'm not sure if it would reappear in the applications folder if it was then accidently dragged off the dock. Thats why I went with an alias.
In regards to making a list of all applications on the dock, that's a good idea in case one disappears AND the name of the programs is not clear.

  • JUST ABOUT HAD IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

In April we upgraded with Verizon Wireless and added a line for our 13 year old daughter.  Literally not even 2 minutes after activating her phone and phone number we were getting calls from telemarketers for the previous "owner" of that phone number.  And it has been non-stop ever since!!!!   She has been getting calls from bill collectors and inappropriate texts -- "LOL I  got in a bar fight over the weekend and was stabbed in the face with keys. LOL"  Yeah that's really funny!  We have blocked 5 of the numbers, because that is all Verizon Wireless lets you block at one time!  How long do you keep used phone numbers out of circulation?!?!?!   3-6 months like landline numbers?!?!?!  (Because we have the same exact problem with our Verizon landline number, that we are very soon getting rid of!)  That is nearly not long enough!!!!!
