Old Cinema Display 22" won't work with DVI-ADC adapter & Mac Pro

So, I want to use my old 22" ADC Cinema Display with my new Mac Pro with the Radeon x1900 card.
And I was told to buy the DVI to ADC adapter, which I did.
But it doesn't work! The adapter powers up my monitor, and it shows up in the Display settings of system prefs, but the monitor remains DARK.
Anyone hear of this happening? I spent an hour with Apple Care phone support. They have no idea what to do.
Is the 22" (model #M8149) just not compatible with this adapter? I'd hate to have to buy a whole new monitor!

Yes, I tried re-setting the PRAM as well. Didn't work.
I've gone into the Monitor display settings and clicked "Detect Displays"...I've changed the Hz on the VGA monitor that I have plugged in simultaneously (a Gateway FPD1510). Not working.
As I mentioned, the computer does detect the monitor...it shows up in the Display Arrangement window and I can change its resolution, etc.
And the power light is on.
It's just that the screen in black.
Is this monitor just incompatible with this adapter?
Sounds like someone else is having this issue too, right?

  • Cinema Display 24" won't work with Mac Mini 3.1

I recently purchased a refurbished Apple LED Cinema Display 24" from a buddy.  I'm pairing it with my used Mac Mini 3.1 (2009?). The display port mini connections seem to match.  The USB is plugged in.  The only cable unused is the "macbook power" plug, from the display.  I know the display and CPU both work fine independently. Cinema display seems to power the USB and "Macbook power".  I just can't get any life out of the display.  These 2 devices should work together right?  Is there a sceret power-button that I don't know about?

The video cards that ship with the current Pro have one Display Port and one mini DVI port.
There is an adapter to connect a DVI monitor to a Display Port connection. There is no such thing as an adaptor that will let you connect a Display Port equipped monitor to a mini DVI port on the graphics card.
Final Cut Pro uses dual monitors connected to the same graphics card. Using a twin graphics card setup causes problems with FX Plug FCP plugins, which can cause FCP to fail to launch.
The solution is to find a Graphics card with dual Display Port connectors, (if one even exists) or replace it with a grahics card that uses dual DVI ports, such as the ATI 3870 HD. Of course, the latter means that you cannot connect two 24" Apple Cinema Displays.

  • I have an old 23 inch cinema display will it be compadible with the new retina MacBook pro?

So I have an old 23 inch cinema display from 2006 and it's been in our basement for a few years and I'm going to buy the new MacBook pro with retina display I'm wondering if these 2 products will be compatible so I could work at my desk the display Powers up fine I just need to know if they're compatible ?

Assuming your 23" Cinema Display has a DVI connector or a built-in DVI cable, all you'll need will be a mini-displayport-to-single-link-DVI adapter or cable, and the display should work well.

  • 23" Cinema Display with DVI-ADC Adapter.  Won't turn on with 8800 card...

I am running Windows XP on a pc. I have had the ACD 23" with the DVI to ADC adapter for 4 years now and it has been flawless. I ran this using an nVidia 6800 Ultra card and then an 8800 GTS 640 MB card. All was well. I just got a 2 new cards for 2 diferent pc's and neither will recognize or turn on the monitor. Both a brand new HD 2600 pro ATI card and an NVidia 8800 GTS 512 card. The monitor works fine with my 2 PC laptops via their DVI connections and my MBPro. So it appears the monitor is fine. This is not the "can't see the monitor in the bios" issue, I can't even use it as an additional monitor in dual view mode when at the desktop as it is not recognized as being connected. Any ideas?
PS I also applied the latest bios update to the nVidia card from EVGA.
    Thanks,
    Reed

Did anybody find a solution for this?
I bought a new T420s. The second week I had to send it in service because it was not turning on anymore. I couldn't convince them that the laptop suddenly restarts several times a day. And only after two weeks when it did not start anymore they told me to send it in the service.
No they brough it today. They made my day happy for 10 minutes until I turned it on and the wireless problem described in this topis apeared. The Inetl diagnostics tools installed with the card say: "Hardware radio is off". It worked before being send into the service.
Now, the wireless switch is on and I see the adapter installed by "no wireless connections available".
Pressing Fn-F5 it tells me to turn on the radio (the switch thing). But that is already turned on.
So I called again to ask them what is wrong. They told me they would send me a new mini wireless card that I can replace myself. I received it today, replaced it. BUT THE SAME BEHAVIOR!!! (((((((((((((((((((((
So I wonder, can the service guys (Wädenswil, CH) be so unprofessional to have forgotten to connect/enable the switch button?
    PS:
    1. The wireless LED is not turned on at all.
    2. BIOS has wireless enabled
    3. Device Manager sees the unknown network adapter (when driver uninstalled) and the Intel Wireless adapter (when driver installed)
(This double failure means a divorce from Lenovo products for me. Once I solve this issue I sell the laptop.) Yes I know service is better than other, but I want something that doesn't need it at all.
At least the Dell guys send a guy (freelancer service guy) at my place to fix the isssue. Now it is not only the costs for shiping it and investigate the problem (that are on my side) but also the productivity problem now costing us more than one month not beneffiting 1 minute from this laptop.
    A very sad,
    Gabriel

  • My iPhone 4 won't work with my car adapter but all other iPhones do. What's wrong with mine?

I have an iPhone 4 ad I have a car adapter that says it is compatible with my phone. Every thing else works fine with the adapter. All different kinds of iPods and anyone's iPhone that I try on the adapter works except mine.
Could there e something in my setting that isn't letting my music play? What could it be?? I honestly dot know what it could be.

Could be a problem with the contacts on your iPhone's connector.  Try cleaning the contacts using compressed dry compressed air, blowing on the contacts using your mouth being carefully not to spit, or using a very soft dry brush.

  • New Mac Pro Won't Work With Old Studio Display

    Hi,
Just got a new Mac Pro Desktop 8-core only to find out my old Apple Studio Display 17" won't work without a $100 adapter. We're thinking of just buying a new monitor instead. My question is will other brands now work direclty with the new Macs - or would they also need adapters? Is a DVI port the same as a DVI-D port?
    Thanks for any info...

Thanks so much for the response, Malcolm, I really appreciate it! My old monitor is an LCD, but what we decided to do is since the adapter we found (and HAD to get from Apple directly) was going to cost $99!! We went and bought a brand new Dell monitor instead for $238 - it's fully compatible with the new Mac, and it's 23" (my old one was a 17") - so all's good!
    Thanks again,
    Jacki

  • Cinema Display (clear) with DVI/ADC box doesn't work with MacBook Pro

Cinema Display (clear) with DVI/ADC box doesn't work with MacBook Pro when plugged in with a dvi to mini dvi cable. Any ideas what to do to make it work? I lugged the 23" 2500 miles into the wilderness and I need help

Okay, here's an update: the DVI to ADC adapter does work with the Apple displays that I have tried, but it won't work with the Formac. I have tried multiple time to contact them, but to no avail... they don't even respond to threats of posting my opinion of them, which is this:
DON'T BUY ANYTHING FROM FORMAC! They make quality products, but their customer service is a big time joke! They won't take care of you.

Connect your iPad to iTunes on the computer you usually Sync with and “ Check for Updates “...
If an Update Appears Install it... if not... you are up to date for your particular Device...

There is nothing to do, unless you buy a new computer.
Mac OS 10.5.8 or later is required.

  • Daisychain my old Cinema Display

    Hi
Is it possible to connect my old cinema display to my new Thunderbolt drive and then chain that to my MBP which only has one Thunbderbolt port?
Currently the Cinema display has a Thunderbolt adaptor and works fine through the Tunderbolt port connected directly to my MBP.
    Thanks
    David

If you display uses ADC (Apple Display Connector, rounded ends with squeeze clips, no power cord) you will need a DVI to ADC adapter

  • How do I connect a mac cinema display to a dell laptop with VGA output?

I need to connect my coworkers Mac Cinema display to his Dell Laptop with VGA out, running Windows 7. We have a VGA to DVi adapter, but it doesn't work. Do we need a different adapter or a driver? Thanks.

DVI-I offered by most computers has support for up to a wider-than-1920 Digital display AND a complete set of VGA signals in it.
If you have an adapter from DVI [computer] to VGA [display] it has no conversion logic in it and should be called a VGA extractor. It will NOT work the other direction.
I think what you need is a better computer or a worser (VGA) display.

  • Connecting new MacBook to old Cinema Display

I have an old Cinema Display that I want to use with my new MacBook. I just bought the DVI to ADC adapter. I can connect the Cinema Display to the adapter but the manual illustrates that to connect to the MacBook I need to use both the USB port and another port for which there is no equivalent port on my new laptop. Any ideas?

It sounds like you are looking for an Apple Mini DVI to DVI Adapter available from the Apple Store (including the online Apple Store). You will also need a standard DVI-D cable to go between the adapter and the DVI to ADC adapter.

  • My Viewsonic monitor won't work with the Imac using the Mini Port to DVI adapter.

My Viewsonic monitor won't work with the Imac using the Mini Port to DVI adapter. I also tried the HDMI to DVI adapter ane the Mac-Mini with same result. The monitor does work on my older Macbook Pro that has the DVI connector. Is it a Software/Driver issue ?

Should be extremely simple, please carefully read Connect multiple displays to your Mac. If you still have problems then it's probably a cable issue that would be resolved by replacing the adapter cable. You should be using this adapter. If you are using a third party adapter that might be your problem!
