Old Mac, Out of the country, Can't connect to server

Hello all,
I have an old Macbook from 2008. It runs MAC OS X 10.5.8, and when I try to install a software update, it tells me that I am currently up to date (which is, obviously, not true).
Before anyone rolls their eyes, yes; I realize that my computer is very old, and that that is most likely the root of the problem I am about to relate, but if it's all the same, I'd still like to see if there is anything I can do to save it before I go out and buy a new computer.
The problem is that I need to connect to the company server, and my Macbook does not recognize it. It's not that it doesn't have Internet connection; on the contrary, it's hooked up to the company's ethernet, it accesses the Internet just fine, and it even recognizes one server: a Mac. That is, it can see the shared drives of other Macs, but it cannot see the shared drives of any other computers.
One other condition for my computer that I should mention is that I am currently in Spain!
What I would like to know is the following: 1. Can my computer find these servers? Is it capable? Is there something I need to do? Is it a lost cause? If so, 2. Is it a product of being in Spain, a temporary arrangement, or 3. Is my Macbook a hopeless case?

Your computer is called an iMac.
Did you turn proxies on? If so, you should turn them off.

You can use the standard charger for 110/220V 50/60Hz. You do not need a converter, only an adapter to convert from the US flat prong plug to the plug shapes of the country you are in. They are only a dollar or two each.

Earthlink Servers -- "can't connect to server"

Recently (the last couple of weeks) Safari have been displaying the message "can't connect to server" when trying to access certain pages.
Here are the particulars:
This only happens with Safari, not with any other browser (netscape, firefox, explorer) on my Mac or my PC.
The problem is intermittent -- sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Both times when I've called apple tech support (and they tried to reproduce the problem, it was working)
The problem only exists with Earthlink's homepages ...any page that has the url "home.earthlink.net/~whatever. So this rules out any particular page or site ...the problems (for me) seems confined to Earthlink homepage servers.
This happens whether logged on via dial-up, or using DSL ethernet (these two are via my isp, earthlink) ...or when using my neighbor's wireless connection via Comcast. So the problem is not unique to the ISP.
Here's the puzzling part. When the problem does exist, I can access the page by typing www. in from of the home.earthlink.... and the page loads. When the problem does not exits and the www. is placed in front of the url, Safari displays the "can't connect to server" message (???).
Also, during these intermittent periods when it doesn't work, any other pages I have that call upon graphics with a SRC url of home.earthlink.... the graphics don't display.
Lastly, my tracking program has shown (1) a significant drop in the pages accessed with Safari, (2) the pages that are accessed with Safari are occasionally accessed with the www.home.earthlink.... url, so this is obviously happening to other safari users.
For my part, I've done all the usual stuff, checked here for similar reports, reset Safari and trashed all the prefs. No changes.
Apple tech seems to think this is an Earthlink Server problem. Earthlink tech acknowledges no such problem and feels it's Safari's problem. ...and I'm caught in the middle Hrmpf!!!
Any thoughts would be much appreciated.

Let's try it the other way around. Open Network Preferences and open the lock.
Set up a new location, I call it "verizon" because the DNS nums will be theirs, available to all. Enter as 2 separate lines

Proxies have been a problem so make sure you have none unless you really need them.
Apply now. Good luck.
Do a forum search on "open dns" for 2 more servers to get their nums. I can't see them as that is what I am currently running and don't want to mess with it.

The email is simple. Just delete her email acoount on her iPhone and configure your account into the phone and then do the same for her on your phone.
The harder issue is that to switch the cellular phone service you will need to switch the SIM cards and the two phones do not use the same size SIM card.

iWeb uses the domain.sites2 files to store its assets.
You'll find it here :
~/Library/Application Support/iWeb/
where ~ is your Home directory.
If you take a computer with you, you have to store that file in the same location.
It's not different from taking documents with you if you want to edit them.
A solution is to remotely control your computer at home.
TeamViewer, LogMeIn, Apple Remote Desktop or any VNC application you can use, like "Chicken of the VNC".

How can I view the iMessages that were sent to me while I was out of the country? They never loaded, but people have told me that they sent me many iMessages while I was gone.
I figured they would load when I turned on my cellular data, but only my text messages loaded. I would like to see the iMessages I missed because I believe some of them were fairly important.

As far as I understand with this, iMessage works the same as regular txts.The iMessages are held on the messaging server for 72hrs if it's not picked up by then it expires. So those that you didn't get you will never get. Sorry.

Yes, that is the number. And what version of Aperture have you installed? The same version as on your old Mac?
But it don´t work on my new Mac...
In what way does it not work? Does it require you to enter a licence number for Aperture 2 as well? That will be necessary, if your serial number is an upgrade serial number. Then you will have to enter all previous numbers as well.
Or does Aperture not accept the number as correct? Then check the spelling; some letters are easily confused like "I" and "1" and "O" and "0". Do not use the number pad to enter the numbers.

My daughter is out of the country and can't connect to WiFi or make any calls. We added International Calling to her phone plan. While she was in the airport in the US the problem started, and continued once she reached her destination. Verizon can't figure out what the problem is, and I'm wondering if it's a hardware issue?

First thing to try is to reset your device. Press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously ignoring the red slider should one appear until the Apple logo appears. Let go of the buttons and let the device restart. See if that fixes your problem.

Yes, you can use a US Skype Number while you're out of the country.
Even if you're overseas your friends and relatives can call your US Skype Number at local rates. When they want to call you, simply sign in to Skype and answer the call when it rings – and you pay nothing to answer the call.

You don't need to unlock your iPhone if you want to use it abroad. There's roaming
If, however you want to insert a SIM card in another country, you should contact your provider. Every provider has it's specific rules for unlocking so I can't give you a general answer

Here's what the Apple Support site says you can do if you do not have access to a computer when your device has been disabled:
If you are using Find My iPhone, you can use Remote Wipe to restore your device. If you have been using iCloud to back up, you may be able to restore the most recent backup to reset the passcode.
You can access Find My iPhone via the Find My iPhone app on your iPad.
