  • I have a MacBook Pro that gave me a hardware error code 4SNS/1/40000000:Th 1H-81.000. What does this mean?

My USBs ports are charging all devices like my iPod and my back-up external Hard Drive but the Mac does not recognise any of them.
The Hardware Test showed the following error: 4SNS/1/40000000:Th 1H-81.000.
    What does this mean?
    Thanks!

Thanks for the prompt reply Kappy...
Does this mean I have to hand in my Mac for repair or is there a way to solve it independently?
    Cheers!

  • How do I add my Applications fold back onto the dock? People say I must drag it near the trash can, but that just puts it past that barrier. I am trying to get it back to where it disappeared from, on the left hand side near the finder icon.

How do I add my Applications fold back onto the dock? People say I must drag it near the trash can, but that just puts it past that barrier. I am trying to get it back to where it disappeared from, on the left hand side near the finder icon. And how / why did it disappear?

With respect, you actually cannot store folders on the left side of the Dock - only on the right side. I wonder if you're talking about Launchpad, which looks like a silver rocket and shows you your installed applications? It's not actually a shortcut to the Applications folder, though. You can certainly drag Launchpad into the left side of the Dock from the Applications folder.

  • I bought the iPhone 4s and my battery used to reach 32% and then the phone would shut off. Then it reached 46% and the same thing happens, and now it shuts off at 53%. And it start recharging from the percentage it shut off at. What does this mean?

    What does this mean?

My iphone 4s just developed a similar problem.  Ultimately, after a visit to the Genius Bar at which I was offered a replacement phone for $149, I took the phone to a non-Apple repair shop which diagnosed the problem as tarnished pins in the docking connector and replaced the connector for $49.
The symptoms I experienced were that the phone would not pull a charge.  I tried different cables, wall outlet versus computer USB connection, etc.  The screen stayed black until I depressed the sleep button, at which time the red battery / lightening bolt symbol would flash three times and then the screen would go black.
If your battery is dead, that icon will not show up at all.  If you get the icon, it means your battery is run down and needs to recharge, but the defective docking connector is preventing the battery from taking the charge.

  • When I go to a website, I get a menu of the website (a list down the left-hand side of the page) rather than the home page itself. Using internet explorer, I get to the home page. Why not on Firefox? It just started happening recently

I updated firefox a couple weeks ago, but updating has never caused this problem.
I installed a program to help the computer run more efficiently, called "Fix-it Essentials," and that may have caused the problem, though it didn't for the first couple weeks I used it.
So I still can't get to the homepage of many websites and navigate as I want to.

Simple really. The first 3 articles have steps in them, but not in this order.
#First, with Firefox closed, remove the toolbars from Windows ''Start > Settings > Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs''. After the window populates, look for the Toolbars; if there, click on them and click on the button to the right of it that says "Remove". Then restart your system ''Start > Shut down > Restart''
    #*Article --> http://kb.mozillazine.org/Uninstalling_toolbars#Uninstalling_via_Windows_Control_Panel
#Second, start Firefox and check in Firefox Add-ons: '''''Add-ons > Extensions'''''. Look for Yahoo Toolbar or Babylon and try to remove by clicking "Remove" or "Disable".
    #*Article --> http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Uninstalling+add-ons <u>and</u> http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Cannot%20uninstall%20an%20add-on
#Restart Firefox by exiting (''Firefox button > Exit'' or ''File > Exit''), wait a few seconds (10-30), then click the Firefox desktop icon to start Firefox and test to see if the problem is resolved.
The last 3 articles are for other steps to take if the above does not work to solve your problem.

  • My MacBook Pro has just started getting really warm for no apparent reason, any ideas why?

Should I use my Apple Care, or is there a quick fix?

you see what is running on your computer (because CPU usage is what makes the procesor(s) get hot) by opening the application "Activity Monitor" in the folder "/Applications/Utilities", then select the "CPU" tab (at the bottom) and sort the information in the top section by "%CPU":
This will show you what application is using the most CPU time and is the most likely candidate for why your machine is warming up.  You can also quit all applications, then reboot to see if that resolves the problem.

  • When clicking a link normally - a new tab would open, but in this version a new window opens and there are 2 blue bars - the bar at the top of the browser and on the left hand side is a orange firefox button - Next time i start firefox it crashes!!!

This window looks weird: there are 2 blue bars(the upper blue bar - normally there is 1, with the current page name and - Mozilla Firefox written in white inside of the bar) plus in the 2nd bar there is an orange firefox button, on the left hand side.
I have already asked this question and was adviced to start in safe mode - this did not help either.
Please help me quickliy, it is really annoying.
    Thanks

  • HT1399 I just downloaded the newest version of itunes, and when I connect my ipod nano (3rd gen), I can no longer see my playlists (on the left hand side). I hate the new format...any way to revert back to the old one?

I just downloaded the newest versionof itunes. Now when I plug in my ipod, I can no longer see my playlists (listed on the left hand side). The new format is very confusing! How do I drag and drop songs into specific playlists I have?  Is there a way to revert back to the old itunes?

I had the same question. Someone answered perfectly here post https://discussions.apple.com/message/20575126#20575126
The answer was click View > Show sidebar. Devices and playlists will display in the left sidebar once again.

  • TS3423 17" macbook pro won't start blue file with question mark is all that appears on the screen

My old macbook pro will not start up. Worked fine yesterday, today all I gat is the startup sound and a blank blue screen. After a while the screen shows a file folder icon with a question mark in it. Any ideas

Question (?) Mark, Blinking Folder, or Gray Screen at Startup
These are related but not identical issues. Their causes are outlined in Intel-based Mac- Startup sequence and error codes, symbols. Solutions may be found in:
A flashing question mark appears when you start your Mac
Mac OS X- Gray screen appears during startup
In most cases the problems may be caused by:
Problem with the computer's PRAM - See Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM.
Boot drive's directory has been corrupted - Repair with Disk Utility.
Critical system files are damaged or deleted - Reinstall OS X.
The disk drive is physically non-functional - Replace the hard drive.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
The main difference if you are using Lion or Mountain Lion is that you must first boot from the Recovery HD:
    Boot From The Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Reinstall Snow Leopard Without Erasing The drive
2. Reinstall Snow Leopard
If the drive is OK then quit DU and return to the installer.  Proceed with reinstalling OS X.  Note that the Snow Leopard installer will not erase your drive or disturb your files.  After installing a fresh copy of OS X the installer will move your Home folder, third-party applications, support items, and network preferences into the newly installed system.
Download and install Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1.
Reinstalling Lion/Mountain Lion Without Erasing The Drive
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

  • I have a red line on the left hand side of my Macbook Pro screen

I have a Macbook pro 15" 2012 model with a red/turquoise line which appeared the day before yesterday on the right hand side of my screen....i have plugged in a monitor to see if it appeared on that monitor too and it hasnt? What could be causing this and is it expensive? Please can anyone help? I have tried all the tests on different apple forums resettting the memory and the board and nothing has worked....it did disappear but has come back permanently now. I've only had the Mac for over 16 months so as you can tell not impressed!! I have a macbook air late 2010/2011 and never had any problems apart from the magsafe adapter!!! Any help would be very much appreciated?

First question is do you have Applecare? If so, just take it in and let them fix it.

  • The battery icon on my (old) MacBook Pro turned red. Then black. What does this mean?

The battery icon on my (old) MacBook Pro turned red for a few moments, then black. What does this mean?

    penny41,
Thanks, glad it helped you to check your battery status.
Something else to look at would be the cycle count, as you mention that your computer is "ancient". If you have a high number of cycles, it may also be a sign that the battery is tired and possibly nearing it's life span, and may possibly need to be replaced soon. If you see that again you may try a SMC reset to see if that helps, but if it continues you may need a new battery at some point. The battery icon will usually say needs service, or something to that effect.  For the later MBP's Apple claims a life span of up to 1000 cycles, of this also will be dependent on who the battery is used, on the older ones I'm not quite sure what the claims were, and I don't know how old "ancient" in your case actually means.
I provide this for your info, so that you understand what may possibly be occurring.
    I wish you the best.
    SMC reset:
Follow directions for what applies to your machine, a battery you can remove, or a battery you should not remove yourself.

This means that the backups were made with a later version than the version currently on the phone. You will have to update the phone to 6.1.3 to be able to restore the backup. You can restore a backup made with an earlier version, but not with a later version.

My macbook pro displays a folder with a question mark and won't open. What does this mean and how can I fix it?

it means your HD and the software can't find each other, the following article tells how to troubleshoot this issue:
    https://support.apple.com/kb/TS1440
hopefully you have backup of your data since sometimes this means the HD is crashing.
if the article doesn't resolve the issue i would take the mac to apple store or service provider and have it looked at, the following link tells how to find one close to you:
