When I try to open itunes my computer says itunes has stopped working.....HELP

Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (later)
Remove all of these items in the following order:
    iTunes
    Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support (if this won't uninstall move on to the next item)
    Bonjour
    Apple Application Support
Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.
The uninstall and reinstall process will preserve your iTunes library and settings, but ideally you would back up the library and your other important personal documents and data on a regular basis. See this user tip for a suggested technique.
    Please note:
Some users may need to follow all the steps in whichever of the following support documents applies to their system. These include some additional manual file and folder deletions not mentioned above.

Wonder why the auto-saves were kind of all over the place as far as their numbers and my progress? Oh well!!
A few years ago I looked at the ordering of those AutoSaves, but could not find the thread. So, I decided to look at Premiere Elements
    13/13.1 ordering of the AutoSaves.
My Edit Menu/Preferences/AutoSave settings were the following to speed things up
    Automatically save every minute(s) = 1
    Maximum Project Versions = 5
In the Adobe Premiere Elements AutoSave Folder were:
My new video project-1.prel  (first and the oldest)
    My new video project-2.prel
    My new video project-3.prel
    My new video project-4.prel
My new video project-5.prel (last and the newest)
I am OK with the first 5 with the maximum project versions = 5, but.....
Since I have set for only 5 versions, where do the subsequent versions go every 1 minute since you continue to
see only the above file names in the Adobe Premiere Elements AutoSave Folder.
    My new video project-1.prel
is now the 6th AutoSave and replaces the original first AutoSave.
    My new video project-2 prel
is now the 7th AutoSave and replaces the original second Auto Save.
Since I did 7 AutoSaves, this is the last and the newest.
My new video project-3.prel is still the original third AutoSave.
My new video project-4.prel is still the original fourth AutoSave.
My new video project-5.prel is still the original fifth AutoSave.
So, after the generation of the 10 th AutoSave, all the original 5 AutoSave would be gone,
and the My new video project-5.prel would then again become the last and the newest)
    As for the question about
    Can I re-save this auto-save under a different name?
Yes, but review the Edit Menu/Preferences/Scratch Disks for the locations of the scratch disc. If same as
project, then those scratch disc will end up in the folder with the AutoSave which has become your project.prel.
A battery failure was at the core of this situation. So you should be OK moving forward.
    Best wishes

  • ITunes 10.2.1 "encountered a problem and needs to close"

Just about ready to cease using iTunes permanently.
I have installed the latest version of iTunes - 10.2.1.1. It will not open at all, instead giving me an error message reading "iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to close". I have spent a week trying to fix it and done the following:
    1. Complete uninstall as per Apple website instructions - iTunes, QuickTime, Bonjour, App Support, App Updates, etc as well as cleaning the System 32 folder
    2. manual install direct from file as opposed to using the updater
    3. I have uninstalled every codec I have on the PC, there are no conflicts
    4. Have run registry cleaners, virus scans, etc.
    5. QuickTime launches as per usual, no problems - its definitely iTunes.
NOTHING works. I now have no access to iTunes, my library, cannot update my iPhone, iPod or anything else. Please help

I'm having the same issue. Ever since the update, iTunes has failed to open for me. I have uninstalled and reinstalled every way to think of. I reinstalled iTunes 4 and it worked, sadly. I then went to update again, and iTunes fails to open. Quicktime works fine. All other programs work fine. This is definately due to the new iTunes version that was released. I get the unexpected error message and it closes. This is the error signature I receive:
    AppName: itunes.exe
    AppVer: 10.2.1.1
    ModName: dnssd.dll
    ModVer: 2.0.4.0
    Offset: 0000246c
Can anyone help me out? I have tried everything on Apple's site, and nothing works to fix the problem.

  • Itunes 7.2 has Encountered a Problem and must close---HELPPP!!!!!

I keep receving this since I downloaded Itunes 7.2 that "Itunes has encountered a problem and must close." I have tried to Delete Quick time but its not in my program files but its in the control panel under quick time. When I click on it says" an exception occured while trying to run"C:\WINDOWS/system32/shell32.dll,Control_RUNDLL "C:\WINDOWS\system32\QUICKTIME.cpl",QuickTime"..56 Before this I removed itunes software and thought I removed the quick time software.. PLEASE HELP. I see this seems to be a common problem.

    I'm having the same problem.
I updated to 8.1 and it closes as soon as the shuffle is plugged in.
So I tried disabling auto-sync. No luck
So I tried loading an older version of iTunes - says I have to have 8.1
So I tried uninstalling and removing all itunes related files - and reinstalling. Still closing every time I plug in.

I installed the latest version of iTunes and now everytime I try to open it, a notification pops up that says "the itunes library cannot be found or created"
    what do I do?

Let's try this first. Hold down the Shift key while you try to launch iTunes. You should eventually see the following dialog:
Click "Choose library". Browse to inside the following location (depending on what operating system you're running):
    Operating System
    Default location of iTunes library
    Microsoft Windows XP
    \Documents and Settings\[your username]\My Documents\My Music\iTunes\
    Microsoft Windows Vista
    \Users\[your username]\Music\iTunes\
    Microsoft Windows 7
    \Users\[your username]\My Music\iTunes\
... and open the iTunes library you find in there.

  • ITunes encountered a problem and closed while downloading tv shows

I have iTunes 7.0.1.8, and I bought an album of tv show episodes and was downloading them to my library so I could copy them to my iPod. At first they were all downloading at the same time, but they all stopped because of error 8003, so I downloaded them one at a time. Three downloaded, but I've been waiting on the fourth for DAYS, and I can't stop it, AND I can't delete it! I went to check on it's progress today and iTunes said it had encountered a problem and needed to close, and it closed! All of my tv shows that were downloading got deleted! I went to my "purchased" list because i bought all of them together, and the three that got downloaded were there, but the ones that got deleted were gone, and I was still charged for them! HOW DO I GET THEM BACK?!?!?!?!?
      Windows XP

The first thing I'd suggest is to get a good antispyware checker and give it a go at your system. Some recent spyware has been reported by other users to shut down iTunes or prevent it from launching. From user reports, Ewido seems to be the best at catching it. You can download a free version of Ewido here.
If that doesn't cure the problem, try deleting the iTunes preference files:
    C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\iTunes.pref
    and
    C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Local Data\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\iTunes.pref
You might have to turn on "show hidden files" to find them. (Right click "my computer", select open, select Tools menu -> Folder Options. Select View tab, "show hidden files" radio button is in the center scrolling panel.) Delete them or if you want to be able to put them back if it doesn't help, drag them to some other location. This will force iTunes to run the setup assistant the next time you launch iTunes. Note that you'll have to go back and set any preferences you've changed from the default.
Hope this helps. If not, you might try this:

  • HT1925 I get a message saying The feature I am trying to use is on a network resource that is unavalable when I try to open iTunes.

When I try to open iTunes a widow appears called Windows Installer.  It tells me that the feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavalable.  It tell me to Click OK or try again or enter an alternative path to a folder containing the intallation package iTunes.msi.  I suggests I should find this in a drop down box in the window.  There is a box but no folder iTunes.msi.  If I click the cancel button iTunes will open and work. I wish to uninstall iTunes and then reinstall it.  I am finding that I can play music on iTunes OK through my sound card but if I try to play streamed music from the web in YouTube and fom My Space the music is a poor quality with crackles and distortion. Other forums suggest uninstalling iTunes and then re-installing it.  I ahve tried to uninstall iTunes but it comes up with the Window noted above and then stops.  I need to stop the crackle when streaming music. Please help.

    (1) Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility installer file (msicuu2.exe) from the following Major Geeks page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page):
    http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459
    (2) Doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file and follow the prompts to install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. (If you're on a Windows Vista or Windows 7 system and you get a Code 800A0046 error message when doubleclicking the msicuu2.exe file, try instead right-clicking on the msicuu2.exe file and selecting "Run as administrator".)
    (3) In your Start menu click All Programs and then click Windows Install Clean Up. The Windows Installer CleanUp utility window appears, listing software that is currently installed on your computer.
    (4) In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any iTunes entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
    (5) Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time?

Solving MSVCR80 issue and Windows iTunes install issues.
If the above doesn’t do the trick entirely, then use the instructions in the following as it applies to the version of Windows you are using:
HT1925: Removing and Reinstalling iTunes for Windows XP
HT1923: Removing and reinstalling iTunes for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8
You may be required to boot into safe mode to complete the folder deletion process.
