One 30" or Two 24" Displays for Logic 9?

Hi, would it be preferable to have one 30", or two 24", LCD displays for Logic 9 use specifically?
The views, or windows (not sure what Logic calls them) will be mainly for audio/midi tracking, audio/midi editing, VI tracking and mixing of rock music. I may occasionally also need to tweak an effects plugin during mixdown.
I understand Logic can take advantage of dual displays. Can it have the "track" window on one display and the "mixer" window on the 2nd display?
Thanks for your advice!

Yeah - I'd have 2 x 24" over 1 x 30" anyday (24" is pretty big anyway). As SC said, you can have your mixer etc on the other one and you can permanently see what's going on. Also you can send movies to the other screen which is great if you score to picture. Definitely take time to set up screensets, it'll speed up your workflow massively.
I've just set this up myself and I'm very pleased with it apart from the fact that at the moment, I open a plugin from the mixer and it opens in the other screen. Not sure why it's doing that but I'm sure there'll be a workaround (any ideas sampleconstruct?).
Anyway, go for it.

  • Two External Displays for iMac

Is it possible to run two external displays off of an iMac? I have a small display running and just was giving an old second display so I was wondering if I could run both at the same time?

It's a real low-down shame that the HD5750-equipped 27-inch iMac cannot support triple displays.
All of the HD5750 video cards available for Windows PCs support triple displays (two DVI and one DisplayPort) with the Eyefinity technology that was built into the HD5750's GPU.
Having one iMac 27-inch flanked by two additional 2560x1440 monitors would be so SWEET.

  • Computer keeps 'loosing' one of the two attached displays.

My graphics adapter is an 'ATI RADEON HD5770'.  I have two displays attached, a 23" Cinema HD, and a 20" Cinema.  It has worked OK for a year or so and now I have a problem where the computer 'looses' the 20" display (assgined as monitor 2) at power-up or when waking up from a 'power save, display sleep'.  At first I thought the problem was the display itself, but if I swap displays (swap the ports the displays are plugged into), the 20" works OK and the 23" goes dark (into stand-by).  Doing a 'restart' doesn't help, however, if I unplug the computer and plug it back in again, the problem will go away, and both monitors will start working again.  After a few more daily power-ups, it will fail again, and unpluging and plugging in the computer will 'fix' it for a few more power-ups, then it fails.   To be clear, when I say 'fail', I mean the computer goes back into a single monitor mode.
I discovered this morning that there is one other way to 'fix' it (i.e. getting it back into a dual monitor mode).  Normally I have each monitor connected via a mini display port adapter.  I can get things working again by disconnecting the 20' monitor from the mini display port and plugging it into the 5770's DVI connector.  It will work this way through a few more power-ups, then fail again, this time being 'fixed' by moving it back to the mini display port.  Sorry, I know how confusing all this may sound, but I don't know how to make it any clearer.  My gut feeling is the problem is with the 20" monitor... it fail the power-up handshake and the computer assumes only one monitor is attaced.  Power-cycling the computer or swapping mini display port and DVI port initiates another handshake session, the 20" reports in this time and the computer goes back into a dual monitor mode.  The displays are rather old and no longer under warranty.  I don't want to go to the expense of replacing the 20" until I'm absolutely sure it's the problem.  I could live with it the way it is, but unfortunately it keeps getting worse (i.e. it is failing more frequently).  Any ideas?

Sorry, I should have posted this weeks ago...  Yes, I fixed it by installing the Apple 'Mini DisplayPort to DVI Adapter'.  I also was using the Accell adapters.  I can't believe that Accell adapters suddenly went bad after many months of use,  More likely, the Accell's started failing due to some change in the latest update of OSX.  I have two similarly configured Mac Pro's (mid 2010 and early 2008) and both started failing with the Accell adapters and were fixed by installing the Apple adapters.
I recently had a similar experience with some 3rd party memory modules.  Worked fine for years, then I couldn't even boot the computers.  Replaced the 3rd party memory with the original Apple memory that shipped with the computer and it started working again.  I hate to say it, considering the price difference between Apple hardware and 3rd party equivalents (4 to 1 in the case of the memory), but you're usually better off biting the bullet and buying Apple.

  • Sun One Custom 404 doesn't display for Active Server Pages

I am running Sun One Web Server v6.1 on Linux. I have a custom 404 error page set up with the admin console. It correctly displays when you try to go to an HTML page or folder that doesn't exist.
    Working Example:
    http://www.seminolecountyfl.gov/fake.htm
But if you try to go to an ASP that doesn't exist, you get some other 404 message. How can I change THAT message? where is it coming from?
    Not Working Example:
    http://www.seminolecountyfl.gov/fake.asp
    Any help is really appreciated.
    Chris

I had researched the casp.cnfg file and there aren't any settings for the 404 error. There is a setting to assign the 500 Server Error for runtime ASP errors, but nothing about 404.

I think I might see what the problem is.  We have the following Universal Workflow Systems configured:

  • Two different Forums for Logic Studio ?

Am I right that this is in fact the real Logic Studio discussions forum , while the other forum called "Logic Studio" has only a few threads.
A bit confusing - what is the difference between "Pro" and "Studio", isn't it the same thing now ?
As far as I remember Logic 8 was the last "Logic Pro" ???
I think the two forums could be merged in to one "Logic Forum".
    Just an idea...

The "Logic Studio" forum seems to be Mainstage and Soundtrack related...
Unnecessary and confusing in my opinion. This is in fact the forum that relates to the Logic DAW application.

  • TAN and TANN in one sale order: Two G/L for TAN & TANN for same condition

    Dear Experts
In one of our business scenario, we are creating the standard sale order for commercial material (item cat TAN). In same order second line item is free of cost material (item cat TANN).
Now for second line item we have entered 100% discount RA00 with same account key  of price condition i.e. 'ERL' . Because of which price will post to customer via price condition and will get reversed via RA00 as second line item.
If we want to post this amount in separate G/L account. How to customize ?
    Please suggest
    Regards
    Kailash

    Dear Kailash,
    As Mr.Raja suggested rightly.
You need to use R100 condition type for 100% discount not RA00 condition type.
Is there any specific reason to use RA00 condition type instead of R100 condition type.
RA00 condition type is header condition type not item condition type.
R100 condition type is item condition type
Maintain R100--100% discount condition type in your pricing procedure.
Define and assign the discount account key ERS to the R100 condition type in your pricing procedure control data.
You assign the different G/L accounts to ERL and ERS account key through VKOA transaction.
Now in the order you go to TANN item -->Item data here you enter R100-100% discount manually.
Now System will post the values (ERl and ERS values) to different G/L accounts when you post the billing document.
I hope this will help you,
    Regards,
    Murali.

  • One Time Capsule & Two Airport Express for Range Extension but will my time capsule hard drive be accessible to all the user on network ?

I am planning to buy 2TB time capsule which is [2TB hard drive + Airport Extreme] and two Airport Express to extend the range of my wifi network. we have a large family & because of that we have 1 macbook, 2 laptops , 2 desktops, 4 iphones, 2 ipads, 3 android phones, 2 apple tvs, 2 ps3's. all of these devices are on my Wifi network but some of them are off usually ps3, apple tv and desktops computers r off but still their is alot of traffic. Now i am buying this 2TB time capsule instead of Airport Extreme so that i can save money by getting 2TB hard drive for me only & not the whole family so i want to know if i can keep the hard drive private & at the same time i want to share my internet connection with all of these devices which belongs to my family members, will this be okay ? and they wont be able to access my hard drive ? & will i be able to access my hard drive if i m connected to any of those two airport express & not the main time capsule. indirectly i will be connected to time capsule by using airport expresses in client mode correct me if i am wrong

You can use TC with whatever wireless you currently have.. if it works you should not need to buy a pair of express as well. The best method is to bridge the TC and plug it into the main router.
You can certainly keep it private for your own access only.. simply set a disk password only you know. Easy.
As long as you have a single network, then wherever you connect in the network will be able to access the TC.. but also note file speeds to the TC with multiple wireless hops will be terrible slow.
Also note all security on the TC is an illusion. It is a home device.. press reset and anybody can then access it. You can even get past disk password. If you want security keep the device off the network.. use an external hard disk plugged directly into the computer.

Not directly, no. But you can approximate the function with Screen Recycler. I haven't tried it myself, but it's worth a look.

  • MacBook Pro for Logic?  Best configuration?

    Hi everyone,
Thanks in advance for any thoughts about this.
I’m ready to upgrade my 7-year-old PowerBook G4 (which has served me so very well) to something more current. Logic Pro will be a primary use of the new Mac. With my understanding of ports and busses and the requirements of a DAW, I’m wondering about best configurations for a Mac DAW.
I generally record one, two or maybe three audio tracks at once, then add a bunch of software instruments (drums/percussion, strings, horns, pads, etc.) to craft a song. It would be nice, though, to have the possibility of recording a live drum kit or even a live band (so up to 16 tracks at once).
Aside from CPU speed, number of cores, memory, etc., my understanding is that there are two critical pieces of technology required for a well performing DAW. First is an audio interface. Second is fast storage for reading/writing audio files.
My preference is to upgrade to another Mac laptop and I’m thinking about the latest i7 MacBook Pro, 15”. I don’t want the 17” because it’s too big and heavy and I’ll be using an external monitor most of the time. (Still would like the portability of a laptop, so would rather not go with an iMac or Mac Pro.)
My concern is that the 15” MBP does not have the ExpressCard/34 slot. Without this slot there’s only one USB buss and one Firewire buss to connect a hard drive and audio interface. So either of these devices would be limited by the maximum speed of USB 2. If the 15” had an ExpressCard/34 slot, I would put a Firewire audio interface on the FW port, then buy either a FW 800 or USB 3 ExpressCard and attach an external drive to it.
So my first question is: given only FW 800 and USB 2, what would be the capabilities of audio recording on a latest i7 MBP? Would you attach an audio interface to FW 800 and an external drive to USB 2, or the other way around? Most FW audio interfaces I’ve seen support only FW 400, so would it make more sense to attach an audio interface to USB 2 and a FW 800 drive to FW 800?
Whichever the best option, does anyone have a rough sense for how many audio tracks could be recorded and played back with an optimally configured i7 MBP?
Another question: Is it possible to remove the DVD drive of a MBP and replace it with a hard drive? If so, would the buss be capable of FW 800 speeds? (I’m assuming the DVD drive connection to the MBP is an independent buss not to be affected by other devices.) I guess a FW 800 controller of some sort would be necessary? If this is an option, then one could have two independent busses for storage access and audio interface, both functioning at FW 800 speeds?
Last question: Would using a SSD as either the internal drive or an external be particularly helpful in this situation?
I hope this all makes sense. I’ve used a Yamaha AW4416 for recording for years and I’m a little queasy about switching to a DAW because of potential latency and performance issues. One option would be to sync my AW4416 to Logic Pro, use the AW4416 for recording tracks, then transfer the audio files to the Mac for mixing with Logic Pro.
Many thanks for any opinions, feedback. Very much appreciated.
    Tim

Phew - long post! Let me try and find your questions...
    I would go: FW800 -> FW800 Drive -> FW400 Audio interface.
Whichever the best option, does anyone have a rough sense for how many audio tracks could be recorded and played back with an optimally configured i7 MBP?
It all depends on what a track is. There is a different between one 16/44 audio track on it's own, a 24/96 audio track loaded with plugins, and a heavy software instrument track with high polyphony and loads of plugins.
In terms of raw tracks, you can get way more than you will practically need. Yes, they shouldn't have dropped eSata (I'm keeping my older MBP for this reason - I can connect eSata drives or my UAD2 depending on my needs)
Another question: Is it possible to remove the DVD drive of a MBP and replace it with a hard drive?
Yes, but it may void your warranty, depending on how you do it.
If so, would the buss be capable of FW 800 speeds?
Internal drives are SATA, much faster than FW800 in general. Throughput mostly depends on drive speed and performance, more than any bus speed limitations.
(I’m assuming the DVD drive connection to the MBP is an independent buss not to be affected by other devices.)
Not sure on that. Optical media are very slow devices anyway...
I guess a FW 800 controller of some sort would be necessary?
Internal drives have nothing at all to do with FW.
If this is an option, then one could have two independent busses for storage access and audio interface, both functioning at FW 800 speeds?
To be honest, unless you are planning massive projects, you'll be fine with an external FW800 drive. If you are planning on doing large projects that one FW800 can't cope with, then you shouldn't be looking at a laptop, you should be looking at a Mac Pro.
I think you're probably worrying too much - a well specced MBP sensibly configured is a very capable machine.
Last question: Would using a SSD as either the internal drive or an external be particularly helpful in this situation?
I'm still dubious to how SSD's will hold up in the long run - they haven't been around very long, and I'm concerned about the limited lifespans (maximum number of writes etc). I wouldn't go there personally, not yet.
Once you're comfortable with Logic, you won't go back, I'm reasonably sure of that...

  • Connect iMac 2011 as a display for another iMac 2011

    Hello.
I have two iMac's 2011, and want to use one of them as a display for another.
Is there any way to do that?
    Best regards,
    Alexey

    Thanx for reply!
    My mistake - one of iMac's is 2010 (iMac11,3).
According to this doc, there is no way to connect iMac 2010 to 2011 in TDM.
Maybe there is another way to do that (over ethernet or any other interface)?

  • Technical Monitoring for Logical host name

    Dear experts,
We are in mid of technical monitoring finalisation.
one of the interesting thing which i found with respect to the logical host name, we installed SMD agent on Virtual host name and our system is not with HA environment and no clustering. It is just a system with single instance.
During the managed system configuration all the physical and logical host name reported by SMD autodiscovery, all went fine. But in Technical monitoring shows only virtual host name with the updated alerts , and logical host name only shows grey alert.
    virtual host shows alert here
    logical host name shows grey
how can i get alert displayed for logical host name too? do i need to do some settings at the OS level , could you guide us?
    Thanks
    Jansi

    Hi Giri Raju Ayyagari,
I am sorry, seems you are still not able to get my issue, moreover you get diverting my issue
Here the problem is not at all related to agents on fly. thats the separate topic.
We are having issue on Logical Host names where there is no HA environment, means only One logical host name created.
I raised to SAP, l will update once the update from SAP given.

  • Planning to buy macbook pro for logic - dual or quad?

    Hi
I am planning to buy a MBP, my budget is tight, as I also will have to upgrade
Logic and Native Instruments stuff to run on the new machine.
If I buy the 15'' 2.8 Ghz dual core, I will upgrade to 8GB right away.
I guess the 15'' 2.4 Ghz quad core should be faster, but then I might have
to defer upgrading to 8 GB (but it will done for sure at some point).
Does Logic take advantage of quad core surplus performance?
    What do you guys suggest?
    Thanks a lot

I was pondering the same decision, and was "steered" by an Apple salesperson to a Mac Mini with Lion Server instead.
How could I give up a laptop? Easy: as I travel less and less for business, and this way I get quad-core, i7 performance for under a grand. Add 8GB of RAM, and swap out one of the two 500GB drives for a fast SSD (such as one from OWC), and you have a perfect combo for Logic Studio.
If I really need a laptop in the future, I'll probably go for an refurb i5 Air, when they drop a little in price.
    Cheers!
    Tony.

  • Urgent : Help required for logical comparison of two 2GB files.

Large files need to be compared depending on Business logic. No byte to byte comparison to be done. It would require reference of data written at the start of the file at some other later part of the file too while comparing two files. File needs to be stored in memory while comparison is done. Kindly suggest some way out which would give best performance. Memory limitations are 256 MB RAM.

File needs to be stored in memory while comparison is done.
Memory limitations are 256 MB RAM.You have 4 GB of data. You have 256 MB of RAM to put it in. Obviously one of those two assumptions has to be changed. By the way, what is the XML connection for this question?

  • Can I use a Sony all-in-one PC/TV as a second display for the G5?

I'm trying to build a pro music system out of my G5, which means that it should only have music software on it. I have an aluminum 20" display hooked up to my Radeon x800T video card, which has one DVI and one ADC jack on it. A pro music rig needs two 20" displays, at least, to display all the mixers, processors, instruments, etc. I have to use a PC for my financial stuff and need a new one. The new Sony Vaio VGC-VA 11G is their version of the i-Mac G5, it's all-in-one plus it is a 20" LCD TV with S-video and composite video in, not VGA in. If I get an ADC-to-VGA adaptor and hook that up to a VGA-to-S/video & composite adapter (all on ebay!), can I plug the output of the G5 to one of the video ins on the Sony Vaio and then use the Sony Vaio's TV as the second display (not simply mirroring the Apple display)? I guess it would be the same as using an LCD TV as a second, non-mirroring display. If it works, it's going to be cool!
