One library with multiple devices with different accounts?

Here is the setup:
*(1) Windows XP PC with iTunes and (1) Library
*(1) iPhone and (1) iPad with iTunes Account A
*(1) iPad with iTunes Account B
*(1) iTouch with iTunes Account C
Is it possible to have one iTunes Library where we can all have our music (all we use really - no videos, etc) and can drag and drop among the different devices as we please?  If so, how can this be done?  If it cannot be done, what is the next best thing and how do you do it?
(All devices are sync'd manually - we just drag / drop.)
MANY thanks for your assistance.
DJP

Hmmm, thought I did that but ran into issues...Will give it a harder look.
Thank you for your reply, tt2...BTW, I've been reading these forums for awhile now and your replies in other posts have helped me so thanks for all of them, too...

  • Would like assistance with multiple devices with multiple iTunes accounts syncing on one PC

I have had an iPhone for some years now and have been syncing with my PC without issue (first with iPhone 3gs and now with iPhone 4s). My wife bought me an iPad 3 retina in December 2012 which syncs with the same PC as my phone and shares the same iTunes account. Apps downloaded onto one device are automatically downloaded to the other, iMessages are sent and received to both devices also.
My Wife now has an iPad mini with retina (using her own existing iTunes account which she previously used for an iPhone she no longer uses). I synchronised her new iPad mini with my PC assuming iTunes would manage the device and related account and contents separately to my existing account and 2 devices. However this has caused an issue with the sharing of apps. Since doing so I have started seeing updates available on my devices for apps which I have never downloaded, but my wife has.  If I tell my iPad to update said apps, I am asked for my Wife's iTunes account password.
On doing some searching via google I now understand that I should have created a second windows profile on my PC for my wife and installed iTunes onto this profile for the purposes of syncing her device.
I would very much like to do this, but would like some assistance on the best course of action for doing so. If I proceed and created a second profile and sync her device to this, I presume I would need to tell iTunes to treat her iPad as a new device (and wonder what would happen to her existing content)? Assuming we do this, I presume the issue of my seeing her app updates would still persist?
Could someone advise if they have any experience with similar issues/queries?

  • Using airplay with multiple devices and different apple IDs

I have Apple TV, iPod touch and iPad utilizing 2 different apple IDs. I can't seem to get airplay working on both devices. Help appreciated

iWeb is an application you can use to create webpages with.
Formerly it was part of iLife. But it is discontinued.
    It doesn't work with airplay.
And since this forum is about iWeb, chances are very slim you will get an answer in this forum.
Why not ask in the Apple TV, iPod touch or iPad forums?

We have 1 iTunes account 3 iPhones and 2 iPads. I would like to use iCloud for my iPhone and iPad, but I don't want the other devices to use share things such as my calendar, contacts, etc. how do I do this?

Separated account for iCloud, iMessage and FaceTime. Same account for iTunes And App Stores.

  • Running newest Airport Extreme with multiple devices with seemingly random success

Recently installed new Airport Extreme in office space. Connection to the wifi network works on all computers and devices (mix of Mac and PC) but only connects some of them to the internet. Airport Utility on one Mac shows green connection to internet through airport and another Mac show amber no connection to the internet through Airport.
Tried Hard Reset and Factory Reset. Also recycled power to modem.

The shaw cable modem is definitely working in router mode.
Otherwise the AE would not work at all with this setup.
That it half works is more a symptom of where Apple is going these days.
I want you to reset the AE to factory and redo it.
    1. Reset to factory.
    Factory reset universal
Power off the AE. ie pull the power cord or power off at the wall.. wait 10sec.. hold in the reset button.. be gentle.. power on again still holding in reset.. and keep holding it in for another 10sec. You may need some help as it is hard to both hold in reset and apply power. It will show success by rapidly blinking the front led. Release the reset.. and wait a couple of min for the AE to reset and come back with factory settings. If the front LED doesn’t blink rapidly you missed it and simply try again. The reset is fairly fragile in these.. press it so you feel it just click and no more.. I have seen people bend the lever or even break it. I use a toothpick as tool.
Then redo the setup from the computer with Yosemite.
    2. Use very short names.. NOT APPLE RECOMMENDED names. No spaces and pure alphanumerics. 2-20 characters.
    eg AEgen6 for basestation name.
Please use 2 wireless names,  AE24ghz and AE5ghz for the two different bands.. with fixed channels as this also seems to help stop the nonsense.
    3. WPA2 Personal wireless security. Use all passwords that also comply but can be a bit longer. ie 8-20 characters mixed case and numbers.. no non-alphanumerics.
    4. Ensure the AE always takes the same IP address.. you will need to do this on the main router using dhcp reservation.. or a bit more complex setup using static IP in the AE. But this is important.. having IP drift all over the place when Yosemite cannot remember its own name for 5 min after a reboot makes for poor networking. If the AE is main router it will not be an issue but you have it bridged.
Here is how to setup static IP and how you share the IP range between the two routers.
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/25135547?ac_cid=tw123456#
    5. If you continue having issues.. Apple Gen6 AE and latest TC also have WAN port issues.. I want you to connect from the shaw modem router to the AE, using LAN1 instead of WAN.. you can also test on LAN2 and LAN3. It makes no difference which port is used for this kind of setup.. and WAN is definitely more of an issue.
    6. Be very carefully that network names are not being duplicated.. Yosemite has some nasty bugs where it keeps finding ghosts of the computer name and then incrementing them until the dhcp server runs out of addresses.. go back and check each computer and device is as setup with name.
    Post how all that goes.

  • Can I have one cloud for my family with multiple devices and apple ids?

I need to know the best way to link multiple devices with different apple ids to the same iCloud to share iTunes and content.

    My iphone 5s = apple id 1
    Husband iphone 4s = apple id 2
My ipad = apple id 3
Son #1 ipad mini = apple id 4
Son #2 ipad mini = apple id 5
For iCloud.. Not quite, you want the same ID for iCloud on your phone and iPad so you have the same info on each. (so perhaps ID 1 on both.
But if you want to share your music (assuming lets say its your ID 1 that has the iTunes account), you should all use ID 1 for iTunes.

They can all share your iMessages, just make sure the settings on each device are set to send and receive from the same numbers and addresses.

  • Wireless sync with multiple devices? + related q

Does anyone know what happens if you have multiple devices (with different content - but using the same library) set up on automatic wireless sync? My husband has successfully set up his iPhone to sync, but I'm nervous of doing the same for my iPad in case it causes some kind of conflict if they're both trying to sync at the same time.
I've searched and couldn't find anything about this.
Also does anyone know what happens if you shut down iTunes/the PC while a device is syncing in this way? My husband often plugs his iPhone into his alarm clock to charge while I'm still working on the PC, so it's doing the auto sync when he does that. If I don't notice and shut down the PC before it's finished, will that cause a problem?
    Cheers

Thank you a lot Jolly Giant, and I have manual sync.
It seems that there is no way to keep an older version of the same app. Is this correct? I never directly replaced older version with newer version, but I suppose it did so when I did "transfer purchases" from iPad. Then it synced the app on older iPod, and it's not really like I have a choice: if I check its name, it syncs and I have the newer version which does not work. If I uncheck, it removes it from the device altogether.
Does not iTunes realize that I have two devices? Both are registered, etc. etc. can it not keep track of minimal system requirements? In fact it appears it's worse than this, older version are totally not allowed, even if someone has by chance the older file, iTunes will not allow.
And it is not like I have a legacy device, this iPod, even though it can not even run the latest iOS (that is, Apple dropped support after 4.2.1 on Nov 22, 2010), was sold new, and not for a cheap price, not so long ago.... btw branded as "third generation" (not everyone is familiar with hardware specs and technical sheets).
The problem will worsen the day my iPad will eventually abandon 4.2.1 in favor of a newer iOS and sure enough there will be newer versions of apps that no longer support 4.2.1 and which so far, I don't download, but in the future I will want to download for the newer device.
Thank you a lot Jolly Giant for your help and thank you to anyone who will help.

  • Multiple devices with the same GUID

    Hi,
According to the Zenworks Command line utilities reference https://www.novell.com/documentation...a/bb15p2z.html
There exists an option to register a device with a new GUID by doing the following...
    register (reg) [-g] [-k <key>] [-u <username> -p <password] <ZENworks Server addressort>
Registers the device in a Management Zone.
You can use the following options:
g - Lets you create a new device object with a new GUID and password for the device if you have multiple devices with the same GUID. When you register a device by using this switch, all the associations (policies and bundles) assigned to the original device object are removed. You cannot use this option to create a new GUID for a Primary Server or a Satellite device. The local user must have Local Administrator rights to use this option.
I would like to know if it is possible to have such a command line option for the agent installation. So built into the agent installer, a command line option to force the agent to register with a new GUID.
We are having CONTINUOUS problems with the above scenario. When we move devices from one computer lab to another and re-image the device, Zenworks keps trying to assign the same GUID to the device and this mixes up our Dynamic Workstation groups, which then affect the applicable policies to each device.
I would like to know if there is an option to tell the installer to stop remembering the GUID and simply register the device with a new guid on agent installation.
This way we can build that into the post imaging scripts which install the zenworks agent.

    Hi Craig,
OK, I've had a look at the ZCM Reconcile rules and run a few tests to see if it is possible to get the machines not to reconcile (use a new GUID after imaging).
As I have explained before, sometimes this result is desired in our case especially when we move machines around from lab to lab.
So far, no matter what configuration I use, I cannot get Zenworks to generate a new GUID for a device that is getting re-imaged (without doing so only after the fact by unregistering the machine and reregistering the machine via the zac und and zac reg -g).
We use dynamic workstation groups to assign policies and bundles to machines so reconciling the devices is not necessary most of the time. We need an option to tell the machine to register with a new GUID on installation of the agent. Surely such an option can be built into the agent installer?
The options in the ZCM config management "reconcile settings" I tested with are:
    Serial Number - Unticked/Unselected
    Mac Address - Unticked/Unselected
    Machine Name - Unticked/Unselected
    Enable Differentiation - Unticked/Unselected
    I then also tested:
    Serial Number - Unticked/Unselected
    Mac Address - Unticked/Unselected
    Machine Name - Ticked/Selected
    Enable Differentation - Ticked/Selected
    and also:
    Serial Number - Unticked/Unselected
    Mac Address - Unticked/Unselected
    Machine Name - Ticked/Selected
    Enable Differentation - Unticked/Unselected
With all three different configurations, I re-imaged the same machine, which renames the machine via the first post imaging installation script to match the DNS name. Thereafter the Zenworks agent gets installed, which then renames the machine back to what it was registered into the Zenworks database with on first installation.
We need a method of telling Zenworks NOT to reconcile when we want it to. It should not reconcile every time and thereby rename the machine netBIOS name.
Is there any way to achieve this?

The same thing could apply if bringing in new Hardware.
If a new computer were to replace an old computer but the name stayed the same, everything could be automatic depending on the rules setup.
It is all a matter of how you tell ZCM to reconcile devices.
The Help in the ZCC under these items should explain how it works so you can setup your rules to meet your use cases.

    Hello eagjdw
You can keep the one Apple ID for purchases and then create another one for a personal account for contacts and calendars. The article below will assist further

  • ICloud with multiple devices sharing 1 itunes PC

We have a number of apple devices, some ipod nanos, 3 ipod touches, and an iphone. All share itunes on one PC for music, videos, apps etc.
The ipods and iphone now have the iCloud option from IOS5. I get the general idea of iCloud sharing the info of one user across multiple devices. How does it work the other way, when there are multiple users that may want some parts kept private, such as photos, facebook etc?
Each device has quite a few Gb of backup on the PC, will that alone kill iCloud? There is about 10 to 40Gb on the devices, mostly different apps and music on them.
Should it be viewed as one iCloud account per user? Is that possible from one itunes on the PC?
I dread switching it on and finding my family have now had all their devices merged and ready to do unspeakable things to me (they take angry birds very seriously).

A single account would mean you all shared the same calendars, contacts, Photo Stream and email, but they can all be turned off individually, iTunes and the app store are separate accounts but it sounds as though you already have a single account for those any way, but again you can turn off automatic downloads and have each device sync different music and apps if you wish. It won't affect Facebook in any way.
If you have seperate iCloud accounts you would ideally need different user accounts on the PC.

That's simply not possible I'm afraid. You'd need to give them their own account and allowance or make it so you are required to be there to input the password when they wish to make a purchase.

  • Assigning ports to multiple devices with HH5

Im am trying to assign ports to each of my gaming devices (PS4, Xbox One and PC), these devices share some ports such as 3074, 80, 53, etc. I have set up the PS4, but when I tried to set up the Xbox One it wouldn't let me as the PS4 has duplicate ports.
Is there any way to set up multiple devices with the same ports?

You can only forward the same port(s) to one device.
If you forget about using port forwarding, and simply allow uPnP to allocate the ports, then you should be able to use one device at a time.

    Highest rate capable.
Things may slow down a bit if you have a number of wireless devices connected simultaneously, since they must all share the same network bandwidth.
