One Nano, Two Computers

Hello,
When I bought my Nano, I installed the iTunes software on my laptop because I did not have a desktop. My library is on the laptop. Now, I have a desktop and want to use that instead of the laptop to connect my Nano, but all the songs are grayed out. I am currently locked out from my own music. How can I transfer my "library" from the laptop to the desktop? Why is Apple being so difficult? What are people with more than one computer supposed to do? I already tried uninstalling and re-installing the iTunes software but to no avail. Any insight into this problem would be greatly appreciated!

How do I do this and activate both installations? I tried calling Adobe but the only number I have to troubleshoot problems is for Creative Cloud problems only. Any way to contact a live person at Adobe would be appreciated. Any other solutions would also be appreciated..

One iTunes, two computers, two iPods help?

I have one iTunes account shared between two computers. An iPod touch is on each computer. How can I separate the account but yet have the same one? I hope that this makes sense to everyone wanting to answer. I also found that if I purchase a song on one iPod, it goes to the other one as well. How do I stop that? Thank you for your time.

To allow sharing of purchases but not automatically download when the other person makes a purchase:
- On the iPods go to Settings>iTunes and App stores and turn off Automatic Downloads
- On the computer go to iTunes>Preferences>Store and turn off Automtic Downloads
To allow separate Messages, FaceTime and iCloud (calendars, contacts etc,
- Create one NEW account using these instructions. Make sure you follow the instructions. Many do not and if you do not you will not get the None option. You must use an email address that you have not used with Apple before.

Settings>iCloud

One iPod, Two Computers, Two Countries.

So, I'm sure this has been hashed to death elsewhere, and this will either turn into a rant, or there will be a solution. So, here we go.
I'm an exchange student in Finland, and about 2 months after I got here, my iPod was hooked up my laptop, which then froze and completely wiped out my entire iPod of music. Absolutely blank. So, I've since gotten more music for the stupid thing. Now I'm just worried about when I go home and having that +stupid as ****+ message about "already sync'd with one library, delete everything to continue". I've gotten it here with my boyfriend's computer.
See, thing is, I'm not staying home. I will only be there for about a month and a half. And I cannot put all the music that I had on my home computer onto my laptop, because there is simply not enough room (I had over 12,000 songs, about 47 GB).
Now, if there's a way to have music for my library on an external drive and never have it actually taking up space on my laptop, then I suppose I could live. Please, dear god, tell me that is a viable option. I've been going nuts without my music.

I also have two computers and one iPod. I have set up one computer to update library/playlists automatically, and have set up the iPod on the other computer for manual updates. Although the songs appear in iTunes, the playlists don't, and I can't move any songs to/from the computer/iPod. The manual says it can be done, but it isn't working. Have you been able to move songs to/from your iPod/computer since you set it up like that?

One Iphone, one itunes, two computers

Can anyone tell me..I now have two computers authorized under my one account of itunes I added my work PC today). My iphone 3G has only been synced with my home computer. When I sync to my work computer now, will my library transfer to itunes at work? I want to make sure I can have the SAME library on both computers, under the ONE itunes account. Again, I already authorized the second (work) computer. Thanks!!

Depending on how large it is, just copy what you don't have on your laptop from your desktop mac via a thumb drive or a portable hard drive. Go to your home folder>music>itunes>itunes_music and you'll see all your music (assuming you've been using the "keep library organized" setting at its default). Copy to thumb drive. Stick thumb drive in your laptop, launch itunes, choose File>AddtoLibrary and point to your thumbdrive music. Watch it bring in all the tunes.

One ipod two computers need help please

I have two computers and 1 ipod 60gb video.Computer #1 is my old computer that stores my videos and music files (about 500 total)It has itunes and quicktime installed on it.I just bought a new sony laptop computer and I installed itunes and quicktime on it as well.I have been using my new computer to download all my new and resent music and videos files and storeing them on the new computer.Well I have about 100 or more music files on it now.My question is how do I transfer the new files on my new computer without deleting my old files on my old computer.I do not want to tranfer the files from old computer on to the new one.If I plug in the ipod to the new computer that does not have the old music files from the old computer then all my old music files will be deleted right since it updates the ipod automatactly itunes will detect that the old files are not on the new computer.How can I tranfer my new files to my ipod????I dont want to put my old music files on my new computer.Im new to the ipod world but i have read a bit on the discossions segment.Please please help any body that can give any suggestions.

I new to this so I'm not sure if this will work.I have been playing and trying different thing. Try making a new playlist, make sure that the music/book you want to add is in that playlist, and update just that playlist,under your preferences. When you are done you will have to change your preference to Manual update. This way I'm just uploading the new stuff and leaving the info that is on the iPod is not effected. I just added a couple of books on CD, listened to them while I ripped some more CD's I have into different playlists, and then added then later. Not sure if it will work with two computers. Right now I'm just working on my laptop, desktop is down and I have not replaced it yet. I hope this helps.

One Ipod - Two computers - Songs have seperated

Hope somebody can help!! I have managed a while ago to move my itunes from one computer to another and everything worked hunky dory for a while however now all of a sudden the music that was on my original computer (computer 1) has dissappeared from my ipod. When I try to select and play the song using itunes on the 2nd comptuer it says the file is missing etc..... you can still see all the tracks but you cant play any of them and also they dont appear on the ipod.
I basically have two computers... computer one that has all my original songs on it and computer two which has everything I have downloaded since I got the 2nd computer. It still shows the computer 1 itunes in the library however they dont play or show up on the ipod.
I now have a third computer and I want to take all the itunes from both computers and move it on to the new computer. How on earth do I do this? I dont want to sit and put everything onto CDs...
Everytime I plug my ipod into the first computer it uploads all those songs, then If I plug it into computer two it wipes the computer one songs and replaces with computer two songs. I was driven up the wall with this last night. Argh... any ideas?

How did you "move" the songs to computer #2?
It sounds like what happened is you put them onto an external hard drive, or other storage format (CDR, DVD-R, etc), and added them to Computer #2's library. But the option to 'Copy added items to iTunes Music folder' is not checked in your preferences. So what happens is it adds the titles to your library but doesn't actually copy them to your computer #2 hard drive. So when the external drive, DVD-R etc. was removed from the system, iTunes no longer has access to the media files.

Hi Tamara - Good question that I've been struggling with. For several years, I had a mac tower, then I switched to a G4 mac mini, then I switched to an intel Macbook with an external keyboard and monitor. I use itunes and apple tv over a wifi for remote speakers on my surround system. Then I started running into problems where I would want to carry the laptop away from the desk (e.g. unplug the monitor and power), only to have my iTunes and airtunes disrupted. By having both computers set up —old G4 Mac mini for web browsing and itunes music only and my new intel Macbook for everything else— two people can be doing two different things on the home network at the same time, or switch between desktop and mobile mode, without disrupting the iTunes and Airtunes. And I would of course take my laptop on the road. I have different priorities on each computer, and at different times one may be more convenient or accessible than another. Part of the key to Apple design is integration. And many mac users have made full use of this integration. It's one of those amazing things that my PC friends haven't been able to fully experience until more recently, if even now. But it would be nice to seamlessly manage the iPhone on two 'authorized' computers that reside on the same network and share iTunes and iPhoto. I guess the solution is to upgrade the G4 mini to one of the new iMacs just released, then make it the 'home' base for all my software and then use my laptop only as a portable device. Still doesn't solve the problem of syncing to iPhone with the MacBook on the road though.

Adobe After Effects CS4 Third Party Content only installed on one of two computers

I installed Adobe Creative Suite CS4 MC on two systems. One system lists "Adobe After Effects CS4 Third Party Content" in Add/Remove Programs. This left me a bit baffled as to what this content is and why it only installed on one machine (i.e., assuming I did not erroneously selected or deselected it during the default install). I thought it would be reasonable to install the missing content on the second machine but I cannot find an installer listing "Adobe After Effects CS4 Third Party Content" in the CS4 default or custom installer.
Could someone please tell me what this content is used for and how I can install it on the second machine?

That's not true for one case.
If you install After Effects in trial mode, the third party content won't be installed. But it leaves the third party content installer on your machine so that when you add a serial number the plug-ins can be added. This causes a new installer to run, so it will be registered (and need to be uninstalled) separately from the main installer.
Frederick- Verify that both machines have the third party plug-ins that Mylenium listed. If it's not on the second machine you probably have it in trial mode and need to serialize. (If not, try uninstalling and reinstalling After Effects from the Master Collection package.)

One iPod, two computers....

I may be slightly naive here, but I have just bought a new computer and would like to transfer my existing iTunes library already on my 80GB iPod (and synced with my old,slow now defunct laptop), but the iTunes system is not letting me do this. Am I missing something fundamental here? Surely I should be able to transfer my library to a new computer. What have people done with the new iPads -they must be able to transfer their libraries from their old computers to their new iPads?

What you do is this. locate your iTunes folder; under Program Files...? (not too sure on PC)
Then find the 'iTunes Media' folder. It will be HUGE. (especially if you have films, music etc. Copy this folder to your new pc (this may be tricky... directly via cable or via external hdd however you can).
Install iTunes on your new pc and when it asks you whether you want it to look for music say no. Then drag your whole iTunes media folder into the itunes folder and overwrite the new one (empty) with your old one (HUGE).
Be sure not to delete the folder off your old laptop until you're sure that it has worked.

One email two computers

Hi Gang,
I just became a proud owner of MackBook Air. The purpose of this machine is basically a travel computer working with an external HD for storage.
Now, I use a Gmail account and so far used Mail set as POP on my proper computer. I prefer POP - it just feels more like email, rather than a front-end for a web based mail which is how IMAP feels for me.
I need (as is: would really like) to setup the Air so that I receive emails on both computers. I want to avoid a situation where emails are read on one OR the other computer.
Is IMAP on both the only solution? (tell me it's NOT please!)
Are there any third-party solutions?
I did some searching before posting here, but did not find an answer.

The way to do this with POP accounts is as follows. When you set up your account in Mail on your MacBook Air, do the following:
+Mail > Preferences > Accounts > (select your gmail account) > Advanced+
UNcheck the item called "Remove copy from server after retrieving message"
Then, when you retrieve email using your MacBook Air, it will copy incoming messages to your MacBook Air but will leave them in place on the server. Your other computer can still retrieve the same messages.
Limitations:
If you do this on your MacBook Air but not on your other computer, you will have to be conscious of which computer you are using to retrieve mail; one will delete mail from the server inbox upon retrieval, the other will not.
If you set this up on both computers, all incoming mail will remain in your gmail server inbox, and you will have to manually manage your gmail inbox separately.
Keep in mind that POP is only for receiving email and the inbox is the only server folder that messages can be retrieved from.
+Sent mail+ will be saved only on the computer you send it from - it won't automatically be transferred to your other compouter, and it also will not be saved to your sent mail folder on the gmail server. You could cc: or bcc: yourself, in which case a copy will be sent to your gmail inbox; and from there can be propagated to your other computer via the inbox.

One screen two computers

I have a MacBook Pro (late 2011) and a combatible (windows) computer (graphic card has two dvi and one ViVo port) with a LG screen (with a DVI-D and a D-SUB port).
I connected my macbook with the screen using the mini display port to dvi adapter and it worked perfectly.
However, I need to connect the LG screen with my compatible PC too. How can I do that so I can work both my MacBook Pro and the PC with the LG screen?
I looked for cable connectors but none was doing exactly what I want.
Anyone?

If the monitor has a button on the front to switch from D-Sub VGA to DVI input you could use either a tb/mdp to vga adapter on the mac, instead of the tb/mdp to dvi adater, and then connect the pc to the montir dvi to dvi port on the monitor. Or you could use a adapter on the pc to convert from dvi to vga and connect the pc to the vga port on the monitor.
But the monitor does need a way to switch inputs. If your monitor doesn't included that feature then I not sure you kcan do what you want.

One Account/two computers/different account info/credit stuck

I received a gift card and redeemed it at work. (it was emailed to work, so I clicked the redeem button there) I pulled up itunes at work and my $20.00 credit showed up. When I went home and logged in, it was not there. After a little more investigating I realized that even though my apple ID and password are the same when I log into itunes on the different computers, the account info is different. At work, it has my husband listed, the wrong cc# and it won't allow me to edit the account info. (the box to click is missing) When I log in at home, it has my information, the correct cc#, and I can edit my info. My home computer is correct, the work one is wrong.....but my credit is stuck in my account on the work computer. Weird, huh? Can anyone help me get my credit to show up at home?????

It might sound redundant but have you gone to myinfo.apple.com and tried changing the acct information?

I would like to deauthorize one or two computers from my account, but I need to view them first. We only have 3 computers in my house, so i think there is a duplicate. I don't want to deauthorize all to remedy this.

I would like to deauthorize a computer, but my account won't let me view what computers are authorized. I'm on windows vista. Is there a way to do this. I'm afraid to deauthroize and then reauthorize, because I'm not sure how it will affect not only my computer, but my iphone and new ipad 2

There is no list. Deauthorizing and reauthorizing, will not acomplish anything, nor will it have any effect on your computer or your devices.
If you have reached the limit of 5, then you can deauthorize all and the authorize the active computers.
