One other user & I can no longer see each other in the buddy list
My friend & I, who have used iChat for years, and also recently, and neither of us has changed anything, can no longer see each other in either one of our buddy lists.
We've checked:
- That neither of us is blocking the other
- That other people can see us - they can
- That we can see other people - we can - we can even see the same people as each other, just not each other
We've tried blocking & unblocking each other, in case that would reset something, and both rebooted our Mac's several times.
Any ideas???

But it would be really nice to get to the bottom of it, because if it happens once it can happen again. Who knows? Maybe there are other people in my buddy list that this is happening with right now, but we don't know it. This person just happens to be someone I chat with a lot, and we noticed we weren't seeing each other.

My WiFi is via a TimeCapsule which seems to work perfectly well with the Apple TV, Hot plugs for the TV and my iPhone/iPad but my two computers (above with Mavericks operating system) can't see each other any more. It's been about a week now. I have restarted both of them but to no avail. My MacBook Air has alternate backups to a local USB connected hard drive and Time Capsule and both are working fine. I've tried looking in System Preferences to see if something's turned off but can't find what I'm looking for. I tried changing the settings in Airport Utility but that made things worse so I've reverted to the original "Bridge Off" mode. What has happened or have I inadvertently turned off?

My employer and I both have iPhone 5. We both recently updated as recommended. Now we can no longer text each other. I can text and receive from other iPhone users. Any ideas??
Well, that didn't work since I am already using my appleID for both FaceTime and iMessage but i did see the option to send as SMS when iMessage not available. so I am now able to send to him but I don't know if he can send to me. It's a start. It is only with his phone. His wife has a Galaxy and they are both on AT&T and she can send and receive. I am on sprint. If that info helps

I was able to transfer my library books by downloading and then transferring them to my kobo through ADE. Now when I open my ADE my Kobo doesn't show up but the kobo is connected to my computer and I can see it in my control panel.

I have a mid 2009 and a late 2011 MacBook Pro, they both have the latest upgrade of Lion. Neither of them can "see" each other in AirDrop. I have reset the apple ID on both. Is there any way I can make them "see" each other?
As far as I know the older mac is compatible with AirDrop.

I'm pretty sure my Mac mini 2011 has that but for whatever reason I cannot send via AirDrop to the mini. The mini can see other computers like my 2010 MacBook Pro and send files to it, but not in reverse. The MBP is unable to see or send to the mini unless the mini has engaged it to send a file to MBP. Even then it's temporary and the mini will disappear from the MBP's AirDrop radar upon completing the delivery of its file.
So I'm a bit perplexed on how the Mac mini has AirDrop, can see other AirDrop computers and send files to them, but cannot be seen on other Macs to reciprocate. -

I just downloaded the newest versionof itunes. Now when I plug in my ipod, I can no longer see my playlists (listed on the left hand side). The new format is very confusing! How do I drag and drop songs into specific playlists I have? Is there a way to revert back to the old itunes?

I can't add anymore video clips to my unfinished IMovie! The clips at the bottom (my imported movies) are now not visible (gray). I can view them when I scroll over them. Why cant I add more?

Both my Macbooks can no longer see my iMac on the network
No clue what changed or what happened. I had it set up fine and up until the last day or so, my Imac was showing up in the Finder shared section on both of my Macbooks and I was doing backups via Airport from the Macbooks to the external drive connected to my iMac. Now the whole thing is down. No shared section on either of the Macbooks and the Time Machine backups fail because it can't find my external drive.
In my file sharing preferences on the iMac, I have my LaCie external drive and my public folder listed as shared folders, and I have my account, the user accounts from both Macbooks, Users, Administrators and Everyone selected under users with read and write access.
I have no idea what went wrong and would sure appreciate any advice on this. Thanks Much.This is just a hint. Have you recently rename your Computer Name? I have had a problem to see PC computers on my local intranet. I got no problem to connect to all PCs thru IP address but they were not visible on my mac mini or iBook under Shared. When I renamed my Computer Name back to one which I've had before everything come back to normal. (I've had renamed name of my mac mini which I used to configure my AirPort Extreme and AirPort Express base stations. My guess, network configuration in Leopard is very sensitive to computer which you using in the first place to configure your local network) This is just a guess,see if it will help you. Good luck!

Imac G3 shows no icons on desktop including the hard drive icon Ican only open applications from the dock but then it crashes if I try to open files (for instance word documents) I can see the files are still on the hard drive and Preview will allow me to open some photos. I cannot access the Finder either and the only way to switch off the mac is to open system preferences or any other application which will then allow me to access the options to shut down or restart.
Does any one have any ideas or experience of this problem?
I've tried restoring the Hard Disk using the original installation disk (Starting up from the Disk and pressing c) but could not restore disk.You have some sort of issue with the external drive, I would use a powered USB hub first if it's not self powered.
Next I would be looking at purchasing software to direct recover your files from the 1's and 0's of the bits themselves on the external drive as it appears your directory or something is hosed.
Software that comes to mind is DataRescue $99 which you can download and test first before buying, then send the recovered files to another blank external drive.
Once you've got your files recovered, then your all set to mess around and experiment.
Try to access the files with the program version that originally created them, I'm not all that up to speed on iMovie, but I do know there are issues with using older Apple software versions with newer version altered files. -

There appears to be a large increase in this type of problem at this time, it seems that that there is a problem at Apple's end, but I couldn't at all be sure.
There is no issues being reported at Apple’s System Status page, but this status may yet be updated and it may be you need to try again a little later.
This isn't affecting me here in the UK, where exactly are you.

If this is a problem at Apple’s end, it is very rarely happens, however when it does only Apple can fix it. When this has occurred previously it has usually been resolved in a few hours or slightly more. -

I would view with browser and maybe make a few changes here
and there to html to finess, but primarily I could do all in the
design layout.
Now, even when I color text, it doesn't show until I preview
in browser. Changes in font size, color, etc, nothing can be seen
until I go to preview and save.

Computers can't see each other after installing E3000
I've found several previous posts regarding my issue, but none of them have led me to a solution to my problem. Here is my problem. I have a small home network that I was able to share file and printers on, now I puchased and install a Cisco E3000 and my computers can no longer see each other. My current configurations is as such: I use DSL and have a 2 wire DSL modem with wireless capabilities. This particular modem has a port for the phone line and a port for local ethernet. I've taken the local ethernet and plugged in the internet port of the E3000. All computers can reach the internet but they cannot see each other. I've verified that file and print sharing is enabled on all computers. In fact if I remove the E3000 from the configuration and place them back onto the 2wire wireless connection they see each other. So I'm pretty certain that the firewall software on each PC will allow file and printer sharing. So that leads me to believe that my problem is in the E3000. It is perhaps blocking the network discovery protocol or something. Does anyone have any ideas how I can resolve this problem? Any help is appreciated.

Something is being blocked by the E3000 because I completely disabled the fire wall on my PCs and still couldn't access them. Do you perhaps know what should be changed in the E3000 to allow access to the computers. Thanks for your help.

IMac and Macbook can't see each other via Airp
Except sometimes.
Using Leopard on both new machines, I can share Internet connections and printers fine. The problem is in trying to mount volumes or share files.
I create a network on the iMac, connect to it on the Macbook, and use the appropriate password on both machines. I've set file sharing preferences perfectly and confirmed that at the store.
Sometimes, from the Go menu I can find one machine from the other. Sometimes I can't. When I find them, file sharing and accessing work fine--although for some reason, the volumes do not mount on my desktop! I have to use the Go Network menu item.
But other times they just don't see each other. I only get this to work by REPEATEDLY logging out of networks, turning Airport on and off, creating new network names, and so forth.
The worst results come from creating a familiar network with a name and password I've used before. The best results come from creating a brand new network, new name and pswd. And creating the using 128-bit WEP is the worst, but I think that sometimes that works, too.
My question is, am I doing something wrong, or is this another Leopard/Airport bug?
Also, if I can access the other computer in Go Network, how come the volume doesn't mount on my desktop??
Thanks.Don't know if this will help - but if you're using an Extreme base station go to the Airport Utility and look at the list of DHCP Clients. I had the same problem only I had an iMac and a Macbook running OS 10.4.11. Turns out that my printer and my iMac were sharing the same IP address. When I assigned a permanent address to the printer (out of the normal distribution range used for the other computers) the problems all went away. So, for instance, if the router was assigning IP addresses ending in 10.0.1.199, 198, 197, etc., and the primary computer ended witih 200, I named the printer 10.0.1.201

Mac and iPhone don't see each other
This isn't just with Home Sharing, but with other apps that use wifi to connect, specifically iAccounts and iBackup, but I couldn't find a more appropriate community.
My iPhone and MacBook Pro are connected to the same wifi network, one has 192.168.1.64, the other is 192.168.1.65, both can connect to the internet with no problems, both have full signal strength. So why can't they see each other? Sometimes it works, when everything is turned off then back on again, but sometimes that doesn't work. Last time it worked only after I reset my router, which suggests maybe the router is the problem. It's a BT HomeHub 3, which probably doesn't mean much to most of you, so give me general advice. What settings should I look at? Could it have something to do with my Mac connecting via 802.11 N and my iPhone 802.11 G? It's a 3GS, so it can't do N.
Both Mac and iPhone have the latest OS (10.6.8 and 4.3.3).I stumbled upon the answer by searching other (non-apple support) sites for this problem. Apparently (and non-intuitively), "personal hotspot" (aka internet tethering) must first be enabled before attempting to establish a BT link. The reason I say non-intuitive is:
Firstly, bluetooth is supposed to be a stand-alone wireless networking protocol that doesn't require another wireless network to be available for it to work. What other sort of device (computer or otherwise) requires an existing network to be in place before BT will work?
Secondly, if tethering via personal hotspot is a prerequisite for a BT link, why is there no pop-up message advising of this when BT is turned on? Something like "Hey idiot, you need to turn on personal hotspot before you can establish a bluetooth link!" Or better yet, why not automatically turn on the hotspot when the BT button is switched on?
Thirdly, it really makes the BT shortcut button (in the home screen control center) worthless if you've still got to manually drill down into the settings menu to turn on hotspot anyway.
I scrubbed all apple user support articles related to using BT and pairing the iPhone with iPad that I could find to make sure I hadn't missed this new requirement somewhere - and I don't see it mentioned anywhere (although I'll admit that steam was coming out of my ears while I read it, so I may not have been in the best frame of mind to catch any new information). In the BT troubleshooting article, it mentions every check-this and check-that step but nowhere does it say make sure that personal hotspot is also turned on! I submitted feedback at the bottom of the article; hopefully they'll update it.
