One Portal - multiple URl's, orgs, groups

Hi Forum
I am in the process of doing a proof of concept for using Web Space Server to manage a large spectrum of diverse communities, hosted within a single portal. One could describe this as a large virtual organisation.
The basic requirements are roughly the following:
1. The portal will serve multiple small organisations and interest groups, with each org or interest group having its own landing page.
2. Each landing page will have its own unique URL i.e. myspot1.com, myspot2.com etc. and the web server need to redirect each URL to its appropriate landing page.
3. The look and feel of each landing page will likely be unique in terms layout etc. thus need to be customised for each instance.
4. Web Space will be used in conjunction with Glassfishv2.1 and MySQL. The server will also run the amp stack with Apache on port 80 for other purposes.
5. This portal will serve as a core foundation shared amongst various organisations, groups etc to enable collaboration across organisational and community boundaries with least effort form a user perspective to engage wherever need to.
From playing around with both Liferay and Sun Webspace Server, it seems that these platforms can serve as a core to manage access rights, permissions, organisations, groups, etc.
My immediate needs are to better understand the following:
1. What is the best practice to route URL's to its unique landing page prior to client login?
2. From a webserver perspective, what are the options to route URL requests to the appropriate Web Space "entry points" i.e. would one set this up in Apache, Glassfish, or Web Space and how?
3. What are the options to customise each landing page to have its own unique look and feel?
Any comments or pointers to documentation will be greatly appreciated.

1. What is the best practice to route URL's to its unique landing page prior to client login? What you need is virtual hosting.
See http://www.liferay.com/web/guest/community/wiki/-/wiki/Main/High%20Availability%20Guide#section-High+Availability+Guide-TheBigPicture for details.
2. From a webserver perspective, what are the options to route URL requests to the appropriate Web Space "entry points" i.e. would one set this up in Apache, Glassfish, or Web Space and how?See my first comment. It can be handled in the web server(tomcat)
3. What are the options to customise each landing page to have its own unique look and feel? Each community can have its own look and feel.
See http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/doc/820-7054/ghycy?a=view to know how to do this.

  • One Portal Multiple BI systems

    Hi,
I have a scenario wherein there are two BI systems and one portal that is used for displaying the data. Now I know we need a BI JAVA on the portal for this scenario.
    My doubts are:
    1. Can we use BI JAVA to connect and pull data from multiple BI systems?
    2. Is SSO essential for the running of BI JAVA? If yes then how can i connect two BI systems to one portal with SSO.
Federated Portal is NOT to be used. Any other pointers in connecting 2 BI systems to a single portal and use the BI JAVA functionality is welcome.
Correct answers will be suitable rewarded.
    Thanks,
    Arun E V

Your approach is very interesting and I'd like to comment why FPN might be your best option in this case.
If you are running new 7.0 web functionalties each BI 7.0 system must have usage types:
ABAP side: AS ABAP and BI
JAVA side: AS JAVA, BI JAVA, BI EP
    See: https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/go/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/d0606dd7-011d-2a10-e1a8-d66b35bb0767
If in your case you would like "federate" your users (and subsequently the content for those users..roles, iViews, etc) across several BI systems then having an overall EP ("corporate portal") using FPN would be the best option.
Now, If you have two seperate BI systems (with a BI Portal on each) the only way your users can switch from one BI to the next is via SSO, however you are still logging into each BI system and have to maintain portal content (user roles, iviews, etc) on two seperate systems. By using FPN can you maintain this all from one single point of access.

  • One Button Multiple URL call's

I have a Button that "Redirect to URL".
This works and results in the generation of a PDF that is downloaded to the users download dir.
Now there is the requirement to be able to select multiple values ( records) on a page and then after pressing a button generation separate reports for each selected value.
I think this can be don using a Dynamic action, but I have no idee how to do this.

  • One portal instance - multiple URLs & Pages

I have created multiple portal_home pages on one portal instance and would
like to redirect calls from two different URLs to specific Portal_home
pages. For example, when the user types in http://foo.us.oracle.com they
    are redirected to http://foo2.us.oracle.com/pls/portal30/url/page/page1
and those who type http://foo2.us.oracle.com are redirected to
    http://foo2.us.oracle.com/pls/portal30/url/page/page2. How can this be
    done?

  • Multiple ESS's in one Portal connected to different backend systems?

    Hi,
We have two backend systems installed.
    We have one portal.
We want to create a second copy of the ESS Portal content connected to the the second backend.
Datawise this is not a problem.
But what about the JCo's and the Homepage Framework?
The WebDympro application seems to look for two specific JCo (for example SAP_R3_HumanResources and ...MetaData) and then both copies of ESS want to use this. Is it not possible to have each copy of ESS use it own JCo's and connect to its own backend system for the Homepage Frameworks?
    Thanks,
    Adriaan

    Adriaan,
Its NOT possible to even talk to different clients in same backend system because you cannot duplicate the JCos and while creating them you need to specify the system and client details.
Also it uses a system alias which also has to be unique.
Per my knowledge one portal instance can talk to only backend client and to talk to another backend / client you will need to create a new instance within the Portal.

  • One Portal for ESS - multiple HCM backends?

    Hi all,
I am wondering if I could run a portal (7.00) and connect this to a HCM backend with ECC 6 EhP2, thus requiring the BPs and content with WebDynpro/Java technology to be deployed in the portal and simultaneously connect to another HCM backend based on ECC6 EhP5, thus requiring the necessary BPs and content with WebDynpro/ABAP technology in the portal (by the way: which BPs are necessary to be deployed in the portal?). For accessing services in the EhP2 backend we will use the Homepage framework but for accessing services from the EhP5 backend we will use only WebDynpro/ABAP. Can we use both of them in one portal (of course by means of different roles...)?
Kind regards and thanks in advance for any hints,
    Uwe

    Yes, this is possible.
by the way: which BPs are necessary to be deployed in the portal?
    EhP2 requires a BP ESS 1.2 and EhP5  needs BP ESS 1.5
Can we use both of them in one portal (of course by means of different roles...)?
Yes, you may as long as you are able to make sure that there would be two similar set of PCD objects existing in your scenario and you dont mix them up

  • Is there a way of making one portal instance serve several domain names ?

We have one Portal instance (3.0.8) that contains one Intranet, one Extranet and 5 Internet sites (Page hierarchies). After redirecting calls to the diffrent domains (sites) to their corresponding Portal page in the webserver, the URL reveals that we are actually running all these sites on the same Portal domain. I know that we can change the Portal domain by running the ssodatan script, but is it possible to have one portal instance work for several Portal domains ? I realise that this is probably far fetched, but I just had to ask... This will not create a big problem for us, it's mostly an esthetical issue.
    Morten

    Yes you can do this.
Your machine must have multiple IPs with a different name associated with each IP.
Look at the ssodatax scripts. This script allows you to make additional entries into the login server repository to register new names with the login server.
Add each name using the ssodatax script and you will be fine.

    Hi Balaji bhau
Just maintain the Overhead group in FG material master.. It will be done.. This too is required, if you want to charge diff overhead for diff FG.... If your overhead rate is same across, you dont even need Overhead group
Assign a costing sheet to your Valuation Variant....
If you want to apply diff OH to diff RM based on FG, then
    1. Then assign Origin Group in RM Master In the Costing sheet BASE, use Cost Ele & Origin Group
    2. Maintain Org Group X in RM A, Org Grp Y in RM B
    And
Ovh Grp 10 in FGA & Ovh Grp 20 in FG B
you can maintain 10% Ovh on RM A and 7% on RM B for FG A & 20% Ovh on RM A and 17% on RM B for FG B
Refer Std Costing Sheet A00001 for your requirement...

  • Set Portal Page URL in Web Dynpro IFrame

    Hi All,
I've a Web Dynpro application that runs in the portal.
    The application creates iframes dynamically.
I want to set in the iframes portal pages.
In order to get the page's url, I go to content admin, navigate to the page and then press the 'preview' button then I copy the url from the browser's address bar.
I copy the url from the '/irj....' to the src property of the IFrame UI element.
So the source property looks something like this:
    /irj/servlet/prt/portal/prtroot/pcd!3aportal_content!2fcom.mycomp.Omri!2fcom.mycomp.TestPage
When I run the project I get:
    <i>Portal Runtime Error
An exception occurred while processing a request for :
    iView : N/A
    Component Name : N/A
    Access denied (Object: portal_content/.../...).
    Exception id: 06:01_17/10/06_0015_4401150
See the details for the exception ID in the log file</i>
The page's permissions are set to everyone so I don't know why do I get this error.
So, how do I set portal page url in Web Dynpro IFrame?
    p.s
I tried to use NavigatinTarget in the URL and it works. The problem is that the TLN is included. I want to display only the page.
    Thanks,

    Hi Valery,
    I have only one domain...
I searched SDN and I found this post:
    /message/1259616#1259616 [original link is broken]
    Daniel Wroblewski from SAP says:
<i>This, naturally, sounds like a permission issue. Two steps:
You must give the Everyone group end-user permission to the iView. This will eliminate the error and cause a login screen to display.
If you want to eliminate the login screen, you must set the iView property Authentication Scheme to anonymous.</i>
I will try it tomorrow in the Office.

  • How to configure Apache/Portal to service 2 separate groups of  users

Before someone say this is a Portal issue - please read on.
I would like to know how to configure Portal to service 2 separate groups of * Internet * users (A and B) all within the same installation so that when a user enters www.aaa.com or www.bbb.com that user is directed to a public page for that group only.
Currently, when a user of either group enters www.aaa.com or www.bbb.com they arrive at the same public page where they can click on a link and goto their respective private pages (SSO Protected) after logging in.
    My installation facts
    infra - host1.mycompany.com
portal - host2.mycompany.com (www.aaa.com and www.bbb.com are pointing to this host)
    j2ee - host3.mycompany.com
I have configured web-cache to listen on port 80 and direct all requests to host2.mycompany.com:7778.
I used RedirectMatch within host2 httpd.conf to redirect any request to the portal public page.
I wondering if it is possible to read the "IP NAME" and do a RedirectMatch on it. In other words when a request come into the Apache listener - is it seeing an IP address request or an IP name ie "www.aaa.com". Because if it is - then there may be some way to redirect based upon that. My assumption is the "http://www.aaa.com" cannot be read by RedirectMatch - only the portion after "http://www.aaa.com/mypage" ie "mypage.
    Any help is appreciated!
    Bill G...

I don't think the issue is one of Apache (not even sure it's one of named virtual hosts since you want both sites to serve the same content). The issue is one of having multiple .local names point to the same machine.
I don't know this can be done without your own DNS server running in the network.

The Profile Manager is for all versions of Firefox you have installed - every Profile that is listed in the '''profiles.ini''' file will appear there. The location of the Profile folders has no effect on what the Profile Manager dialog window shows. There is no way to set it up relative to one program installation.
Best thing to do is to have separate desktop shortcuts for each Profile / Firefox-version you want to use.

    Hello,
It is true for JSR168 portlets that you can't just arbitrarily set parameters on a URL and get access to them inside your portlet- you must use the appropriate APIs on the PortletURL class to set parameters that you can retrieve. This is the only portable (standards-compliant) way to implement the functionality you want.
However, for your particular use-case, you can get the URL parameters from the (non-JSR168) HttpServletRequest object. The only reason you are getting a null object for that is because the attribute name is wrong. This should work:
    HttpServletRequest httpRequest = (HttpServletRequest)(request.getAttribute("javax.servlet.request"));
    String eventId = httpRequest.getParameter("eventId");

  • CSS11500 SSL handling question for multiple url/FQDNs with the same ip address

I know that it's possible on the CSS to handle multiple incoming HTTP requests that terminate on the same IP address and port and balance them to various servers based on the url.   For instance, I can set up www.cats.com and www.dogs.com at the same 192.168.35.12 address in DNS, and set up two different content rules:
    content cats
    vip address 192.168.35.12
    port 80
    url "//www.cats.com/*"
    add server cats1
    add server cats2
    active
    content dogs
    vip 192.168.35.12
    port 80
    url "//www.dogs.com/*"
    add server dogs1
    add server dogs2
    active.
    Easy and straightforward.
But what if I want to add SSL handling for https://www.cats.com and https://www.dogs.com?
I'm not sure how to create the ssl-proxy-list where one content rule (ip address/port) combination needs to pass through the ssl module and get matched with the proper ssl certificate.
Can this be done?  Can one associate multiple certs and keys with a single ssl-server entry and a single ssl accelerator service?  Or do I have to create multiple ssl-proxy-lists for cats and dogs and build multiple ssl services each referring to a unique ssl-proxy-list, and then use the url parameter in the https content rule to determine which ssl service (and therefore which key/cert pair) gets the traffic?
Thanks in advance for any insights.

    Hi Tim,
Unfortunately this is not possible; you can't associate multiple certificates to a single proxy list due to the fact that SSL handshake is done first with no visibility of the URL being requested, so the CSS won't know which public server to use in order to perform the traffic decryption.
But there are a couple of options that you may want to look at (depending on the URL string)
If your URLs are subdomains and you hold a wildcard SSL certficate to match multiple requests, i.e your domain being "pets.com" you can have a certficate that will match request for dogs.pets.com or cats.pets.com because the cert will be in the form *.pets.com
The second option is SAN (Subject alternative names) certificates; which give you the option to include up to 4 flavors of the domain within the same file, such as pets.com, pets.net, www.1pets.com.
    I hope this helps.
