Online viewing - download/display without a viewer
When people visit my site, I want them to be able to either view or download a video clip
Is there any format that doesn't require that a player be downloaded/installed first?

Recent versions of Internet Explorer were including the Flash player as standard during updates. That way it didn't require the user to download any sort of player. However, now that MS has released Silverlight, their supposed Flash killer, they're no longer doing that and any new users will have to download the player.
The problem is, and it's something we've seen for years in this field, there's no one all-encompassing video format for cross-platform. Flash is probably closest, but until the Adobe Media Player is released properly it's only really good for embedded videos. WMV and Real have versatility, but WMV isn't Mac and Linux friendly and Real still requires a player download (and personal information).
My thinking is that one of two things is going to happen in the mid term future (which doesn't help you at all right at this moment);
Silverlight takes off as a platform, allowing content creators to use a lot of their legacy content (a heap of old web video is in WMV format), embed their files for streaming and make the same content available as downloadable clips for whatever the next generation of Zune will be.

Adobe Media Player comes along allowing Flash content to create rich media applications on the desktop. With the FLV format allowing the use of H.264 instead of just On2 VP6 there's all sorts of options for creating streaming and downloadable content for the countless iPods/iPhones out there.
Anyone got a coin?
As for your problem, I think you may need to be creating two versions of your content; one for streaming/progressive download using FLV files in a Flash player, and, depending on what you think your market is, a downloadable version that is perhaps better quality (higher resolution, higher bit rate) in a format like WMV (Windows being the more common operating system out there).
It's very difficult to say which platform is best without knowing more about your requirements.

I will go a step further and say ignoring errors on your site because someone else's site has some is extremely poor advice, especially considering the volume of people visiting this forum alone with a random display problems that are solved by simply correcting the errors found in the validators.
Restoring from a backup may work this time, but why did it work? That's where validation, and understanding what the validator is telling you, pays off. You somehow inadvertantly mangled your table code, will that ever happen again? What happens if your backup also has the same mangled code next time?
Some validation errors are never going to affect display and can be completely ignored from a "how does this affect my design" point of view, like missing an alt attribute on an image for instance. Others, like missing or improperly nested html elements, can kill your design in browsers or rendering engines that can't handle major errors (like most versions of IE or DW's Design View) while everything looks fine in a browser better programmed to handle problems (like Chrome or Firefox).
Bottom line is, the validators are extremely useful tools, do not ignore the error report unless you understand which errors can be ignored. -
Is there an Enterprise solution to view pdf's without downloading?
Hello, a client I'm working for has begun a move to digitising a lot of their correspondence, and requires workers at remote locations to access and view these documents.
The simplest solution of having the workers access the document in a browser, and have it downloaded to their machine before opening is not really ideal, in short, volume is high, and bandwidth is constrained
Is there a product or method that an organisation can deploy (needs to be operate behind fully locked down firewalls) that either
1) Allow workers to view the documents without actually downloading lot (the assumption being this saves on bandwidth)
2) Allows workers to view the documents in such a way that only 1 page at a time is downloaded (some of these documents are 30+ pages, and the download overhead is an issue)Adobe has a solution but it is very expensive: http://www.adobe.com/manufacturing/resources/drm/
It may be overkill for what you need. I would suggest studying up on Digital Rights Management solutions to see if you can find one to fit your exact needs. -
How do I remove my old Adobe Flash download? I cannot view videos my children have sent via e-mail without upgrading Adobe Flash. Instructions directed me to remove the old download if I was having trouble. I now have 7 downloads and can't get any Adobe videos. thank you
It is not that they are sending flash videos. Any video they send via there Mac or phone seem to need the update for me to view. Since one family is abroad and my youngest, a musician, lives across the country they keep me in their lives with videos. With the musician I can get videos on itunes but not in an e-mail or his website. I always have a note come up that I need to upgrade Adobe to see the video. I have tried dragging the multiple downloads to trash but they don't get removed. thanks for replying

How to display without previewbar on power view report in office 365

I have one power view enabled the excel sheet and uploaded into document library in 0ffice365.
next added page viewer webpart in one page and configured power view sheet url. But here power view sheet displayed with multiple sheets and preview bar(i.e) File, Edit Workbook, Share, Data menus....
I want don't display this bar and multiple sheets(only i need to display power view sheet). Anyone know how to hide this ???Thanks for your reply.

Cannot preview filetype please download the file for viewing and garbled text on a downloaded image
Dear Madam or Sir,
When I click on a file titled "Subject Access Request Letter re Account Number 12527629 Sort Code 60-10-34 24022015.pdf", which is stored in my Account on Acrobat.com I get the response "Cannot preview filetype please download the file for viewing". This file was created from an OpenOffice .odt document of the same title. Please advise.
I downloaded an image, which purports to be a .pdf, from the Royal Mail Track & Trace web facility using my Samsung S5. The text that I expect to see might as well be hieroglyphics for all its similarity to text. Please advise.

I have found the solution to be:
1. Not to upload to "Document Cloud" from the .pdf stored on my PC and
open on screen.
2. To login to Acrobat.com from the .pdf stored on my PC and open on
screen, select "Document Cloud" and the sub-folder required and then upload
the file
I have a feeling that there is a glitch somewhere, because after I have
opened a number of .pdf files stored on my PC, and irrespective of whether
I have closed them prior to opening the next .pdf file or left them open,
Acrobat Reader will display (Not responding) in the window title bar. The
"number of files" equates to less than 10. I, then, click on the X at the
right of the window title bar and I am given the option of "Close the
program" or "Wait until the program responds" (or words to that effect). If
i choose the latter, nothing happens and I am back at the unhappy status
quo. If I choose the former, I am told that Windows is searching for a
solution, which it never finds. I, then, have to shut down the PC and then
start it up, again. Clicking "Restart" does not solve the problem.
I have described the above before and received the usual "it cannot be
Acrobat, it is perfect" response. I could, I suppose, screenshot/snip every
sequential screen but why should I have to when I have described the
sequence as fully as I can. So I have found a "workaround" that does not
solve the "Not responding" problem but does solve the problem of not being
able to upload from the open .pdf file to the sub-folder in "Document
Cloud". I am, on occasion, working through the myriad of .pdf files that
are in the root folder of "Document Cloud" and putting them in the correct
sub-folder(s).
I have today read that Google is starting a cellphone service in the USA in
which a monthly "access" rental (US$20) is paid plus a GB capacity usage is
elected for at a rate specified, e.g. US$10.00/GB. If the subscriber does
not use the elected GB capacity Google refunds the US$value of the unused
elected GB capacity.
Suggestion: Adobe applies that kind of policy to its online software
package usage rates, e.g. I elect to subscribe to a particular level of
online software package usage monthly, but, if I do not use all of the
programs included in that online software usage package, I am credited back
for not having used the softwares, that I did not use, that were inclusive
in that online software package offer.

BLOBs and ASP: Store ok. How to View/Download?
I hope this is not considered OT here; if so, please accept my apologies.
I finally managed to upload a binary file to a BLOB field in my Oracle 8i table (through Oracle OLE-db). In the same table I also store size and content type of the file.
What I'm trying to do now is to build an ASP page listing all the documents in this table and put beside each document two buttons: View and Download.
Clicking the View button should open a pop-up window and display the document in the web page (if the MIME type is known), while clicking the Download button should open the standard dialog box (even if the MIME type is known).
I know you can read the blob and save it to a file on the web server, but it is not clear to me when the file should be deleted. How do I know, for example, that the download is over?
I've found examples of images sent from a BLOB field to the browser, but I'm not dealing with JPEGs of GIFs: doc, xls, pdf, ppt, etc. Is it possible to read the binary data of a BLOB and send it to the browser without saving to file?
And how can I tell the browser to ignore the MIME type and open the download dialog?

I usually access Ovi Store app through my Wi-Lan (not through telecom provider's internet as we have only GPRS, 3G services are expected to be launched this month). Having said that, I want to mention that I had already purchased Angry Bird game through the Ovi store in Nov using my CC. It was smooth and painless. Not sure why this issue is happening since the last 1 month.

URL reporting - suppress grouptree display in Activex viewer

We are running BOXI R3, using URL reporting to launch reports after a user has logged into Business objects in our app using the Java SDK to select reports, set parameters, etc.
We have been using the Dhtml viewer as the default, but want to move to using the ActiveX viewer as the default instead.
How can the default behaviour of the Activex grouptree display be changed, in order to not show the grouptree when a report is opened?
We were able to modify the Dhtml viewer behavior to suppress the groupTree, but it is not clear how to do this with the Activex viewer, either by URL parameters or the htmlviewerbridge web.xml settings, or .jsp code.Post Author: gouldjw

Still haven't figured this one out, so any help would be greatly appreciated. Is it not possible to use the ActiveX viewer without CR Server or BOE? It appears to be a feature of Crystal Reports Developer Ed., but I can't figure out how to actually view a report using the viewer. All I can do is display in DHTML, but for 10+ MB reports, this doesn't work well because the report reloads at every click.
Also, what is up with the repository requiring BOE? Can I no longer share pre-built command objects without the server software? -
Display a schematic view with icons (jpg, gif, etc).
I'm trying to display a schematic view and use icons to represent the difference objects in this schematic view.
For example: to show a 3 phones conference call. The description will be the phone number (or person's name) and the icon will be the person's face or company logo.
I have tried to use JLabel, and JButton but then I have to use a Layout. Without a layout the are one-on-top of another.
I tried to use setLocation and it doesn't look to have any effect on the location of JLabel or JButton.

TranslateMarkup output not displaying in design view

I'm trying to take a set of php pages which all follow a similar style

This then pulls in various other files (css, js etc) and renders on the website. I'm used to working with an IDE and hand-writing php code. My non-technical colleague would like to edit the html using WYSIWYG and is used to using DW. At the moment the html in the heredoc strings doesn't display in design view. I've been trying to rejig the pages using translators and can convert the above php into html which renders fine in a browser. The html output from the translateMarkup function doesn't display in design view. I think I'm probably fighting a losing battle (for instance I'm not sure how I'm going to make html editable in DW even if I can get it to render), but if anyone could explain why the html won't render I'd be very grateful. </html>unless there's any way of rewriting the files before upload and download (ie dynamically rewrite the php pages as html before dreamweaver opens them, then rewrite them back as php before they're uploaded - I'm clutching at straws).
I believe that this should be possible but I'm definitely not a DW extensionologist so I couldn't say for sure. Also, I believe that the tricky part would be the last step -> WYSIWYG edits back to PHP, which may well be impossible.

How can I download the Crystal Report Viewer XI
We need a way for users who recieve .rpt files as email attachements distributed from BOE XI R2 to be able to view the reports and use drill-down functionality without being able to edit the report.
I found the Crystal Reports Viewer XI R2 release notes at help.sap.com but need to know from where to download so that we can install on users' machines. The note references CRViewerXI.exe but I need to know where to get that file?Thanks... I was able to download / install....
As a seperate issue: we're getting an error when trying to open a report generated out of boe xi r2 sp4....the report does have "save data" with report.... I send to myself via email, save the rpt but when I try to open on a machine with viewer installed....it tries and gets to the end and presents an 'unexpected error' with detail:

Approval Center Preview Updates not displaying a populated Views list
Goal is to be able to add Baseline fields to Preview Updates.
In trying to edit the view in Approval Center other entries ("change the view of Approval center" and "Adding the baseline (tracking) columns to the Approval Center view") indicate the solution is to use the View in Preview Updates
and imply that the Tasks Tracking view is the view to update for Preview Updates.
However, the view that I am seeing in Preview Updates does not
match any view within Manage Views, including Tasks Tracking.
The Preview Updates displays the following columns:

The Tasks Trackingview already includes Baseline Start/Baseline Finish (and other differences) ... so not the view being used.
Within Project Center after selecting a project and then selecting Schedule the view list has all expected views defined in Manage Views > Project.
But within Preview Updates the View drop down does not invoke a list of views. So now I am wondering if this is the root problem for this issue I am having.

I just tested your concern in my Project Online instance. As far as I know, there are no significative changes in the preview updates feature between 2010 and 2013 versions.
As I said in your previous post, you are several views available in the "preview updates" page (unfortunately in french).
Those views are the project views that are not related to resources and assignments, meaning all the "... tasks" project views should be available in the preview updates page. Then just edit one of those view adding your fields and save it.
I tried to edit the task summary project view, adding a few field like bsaeline start and finish and it worked perfectly. Note that each field impacted by the update will be duplicated, for example the start date will be duplicated to a "previous start date"
field.

Hi mrnotia
Do you mean by this that you don't want to use a GPRS connection so that assisted GPS feature will not work, as provided internal GPS is enabled it will still lock onto satellites albeit more slowly unless outside?
If you have access to a WLAN this can always be the chosen access point if you want.
If you have downloaded regional maps you can use the "*" and "#" keys to zoom in/out and the cursor to traverse maps.

Viewing downloaded html-code in a webview -AppleEventhandler failed(-10000)
I am trying to view downloaded html-code in a webview in AppleScript Studio. Showing the raw html text in the textwindow works ok, but I am getting an error message trying to output the code to the webview.
I really googled for a solution to this before posting, but haven´t found anything.
It´s the last line "call method "loadHTMLString:baseURL:"....." that is giving me the error.
What´s wrong?

IF I'm not mistaken, you should provide "http://www.google.com/" for baseURL of your html source obtained from "http://www.google.com" unless this page defines its own base.
So you might try something like -
