Only GDR3 update on my Lumia 820 - Lumia Black is ...

Hi!
I updated my phone to GDR3 yesterday, but I didn't get the Lumia Black update, please see the attached screenshots for details.
Am I missing something, or do I just have to wait for the Lumia Black update arrive? On the Nokia website it says that it's available for my phone.
Thanks for your help!
Martin

Check that all your system apps are up to date as well. There are several free apps in the store for that, Lumia System updater is one for example.

  • D3D depth issue and D2D render flash after update device from Lumia Black to Lumia Denim

    Hi,
    Yestoday I updated my lumia 929 device from Lumia Black to Lumia Denim. I develope game on this device.
    My game is D2D and D3D Interop with silverlight 8.1 program. Then problem occured. The depth of 3D objects become wrong. And the d2d content will flash time to time. I use d2d to render text.
    However, I solved the depth problem by setting up DepthStencilState. But the d2d content flash problem doesn't solved.
    Not only Lumia 929, but 930, 638 and many devices.
    In lumia 525 and 520t, my game still works fine.
    Can anyone help me ?
    Any help will be appliciated, thank you.

    Hello,
    Can you provide more detail concerning how you are rendering your text with D2D? Are you doing the D2D update on the UI thread? I think we just need more detail before we can offer any suggestions.
    Thanks,
    James

    Hi, thank you for your reply.
    What do you mean D2D update?I draw D2D content on the UI thread.
    I render text like below
    void YHMText::DrawCustom(wstring str, float scale, float posX, float posY, float layoutX, float layoutY, float opacity, float rotationAngle, int colorID)
    mText = str;
    if (mIsResourceLoaded && opacity > 0.0f)
    mText = str;
    DX::ThrowIfFailed(m_dwriteFactory->CreateTextLayout(mText.c_str(), (uint32) mText.length(), mTextFormat.Get(), layoutX / scale, layoutY / scale, &mTextLayout));
    DWRITE_TEXT_RANGE range = { 0 };
    range.length = static_cast<uint32>(mText.length());
    DX::ThrowIfFailed(mTextLayout->SetFontCollection(mFontCollection.Get(), range));
    #ifdef YHMWINRT
    Windows::Foundation::Size logicalSize = mDeviceResources->GetLogicalSize();
    #endif
    #ifdef YHMSILVERLIGHT
    Windows::Foundation::Size logicalSize = mDeviceResources->GetRenderTargetSize();
    #endif
    float dpiScale = 1.0f;
    #if (NTDDI_VERSION == NTDDI_WIN8)
    dpiScale = 96.0f / mDeviceResources->GetDPI();
    #endif
    D2D1::Matrix3x2F screenTranslation;
    D2D1::Matrix3x2F screenScale;
    D2D1::Matrix3x2F globelScale = D2D1::Matrix3x2F::Scale(scale, scale);
    D2D1_POINT_2F center;
    center.x = posX * logicalSize.Width / 1920.0f * dpiScale;
    center.y = posY * logicalSize.Height / 1080.0f * dpiScale;
    D2D1::Matrix3x2F rotation = D2D1::Matrix3x2F::Rotation(rotationAngle, center);
    if (gScreenMode == YHMScreenMode::Portrait)
    screenTranslation = D2D1::Matrix3x2F::Translation(posX * logicalSize.Width / 1080.0f * dpiScale, posY * logicalSize.Width / 1080.0f * dpiScale);
    screenScale = D2D1::Matrix3x2F::Scale(logicalSize.Width / 1080.0f * dpiScale, logicalSize.Width / 1080.0f * dpiScale);
    if (gScreenMode == YHMScreenMode::Landerscape)
    screenTranslation = D2D1::Matrix3x2F::Translation(posX * logicalSize.Width / 1920.0f * dpiScale, posY * logicalSize.Height / 1080.0f * dpiScale);
    screenScale = D2D1::Matrix3x2F::Scale(logicalSize.Width / 1920.0f * dpiScale, logicalSize.Height / 1080.0f * dpiScale);
    m_d2dContext->SetTransform(screenScale * globelScale * screenTranslation * mDeviceResources->GetOrientationTransform2D() * rotation);
    DX::ThrowIfFailed(mTextFormat->SetTextAlignment(mTextAlignment));
    mDeviceResources->BeginDrawD2D();
    mBrush[colorID]->SetOpacity(opacity);
    m_d2dContext->DrawTextLayout(D2D1::Point2F(0.f, 0.f), mTextLayout.Get(), mBrush[colorID].Get(), D2D1_DRAW_TEXT_OPTIONS_NO_SNAP);
    mBrush[colorID]->SetOpacity(1.0f);
    mDeviceResources->EndDrawD2D();
    This works fine with Lumia Black. But in Lumia Denim, my d2d text may flash.
    I noticed that the flash problem usually occured when D3D content draw first. In my render methods, d3d content and d2d content are place together.

  • Nokia Lumia 820 issues after Lumia Black update...

    Before updating to the Lumia Black update:
    1. Was able to connect the Nokia Lumia 820 to my home PC using Windows 8.1 and it was able to see the device and files on it as well as sync music from Windows Media Player to the device.
    2. Was able to connect to the Nokia Lumia 820 from one of my Office PCs using Windows 8.0 and was able to see the device and files on it.
    As well as to manually install Windows Phone 8 applications or install the Windows Phone 8 applications via Microsoft Visual Studio 2012 Ultimate from either PC.
    After the Lumia Black update, Neither PC can see files on the Nokia Lumia 820 nor can any application send files to the Phone's Memory Card or Second Memory Card. (SD Class 10)
    Very frustrated with the Lumia Black update. Lumia Amber worked just fine.
    I haven't changed anything as far as I know on my Nokia Lumia 820 device to cause said issues nor have I abused the device in any way.
    PLEASE HELP!!!
    Thank you,

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Simply wanted to add 3 new audio tracks to the Music files via Windows Media Player but cannot even connect the device like it did less than 45 days ago when everything was working properly.
    All my music files are on the SD Card because the file space needed is more than the 7.3 GB on the base memory for the unit. (Something like 8.1+ GB at the present time of 29.8 GB... which is the formatted size of the 32 GB SD Class 10 card.)
    When the Nokia Lumia 820 is connected to my home Windows 8.1 computer, Windows knows about it but cannot finish the handshake to see the device and the 2 memory areas on the device.
    Have to determine which programs that I have installed after the initialization that I want to restore.
    The problem at the moment is that turning off the unit loses ALL Music Album Data but the songs are still there. This seems to have been caused by Lumia Black Update but not sure if that is true or not.
    Have a lot of stuff to backup before resetting the device. Perhaps could upload everything to SkyDrive / OneDrive then restore the data after a full reset of the device.
    I have all my cell phone contact data backed up but would like to backup all text messages too.
    I have 2 custom applications that I have developed but are not yet setup using the Windows Phone 8 Development License as released products... that will be done soon.
    Cannot backup the latest pictures on the phone... not many since the last backup but there are pictures that are not restorable that I would like to keep.
    Would rather not have to do a complete reset but may have no choice.
    Thanks,

  • Error 8018830f when installing Lumia Black update ...

    I have repeatedly gotten the error message "The update was downloaded but couldn't be opened (8018830f)" when trying to update to Nokia Lumia Black on my Lumia 521 device. I'm on Wal-Mart Family Mobile (T-Mobile). The current software version is Amber, specifically firmware version 3046.0000.1328.2024.
    I read in another post that you should change the language to something else and try again. I did that to no avail. I've also completely reset the phone to factory settings and it still gave the same error message.
    I know this should work, because my husband's phone worked fine on the new update. He has the exact same phone with the same carrier.

    Because you reset your device already, did you try the Nokia Software Recovery Tool, as well?

  • Lumia Black begins rolling out

    Greetings Lumia fans,
    From today, Nokia Lumia WP8 owners around the world will start to receive the new Lumia Black software update on their smartphones.
    The Lumia Black update combines a host of new features, improvements in imaging, new apps and app updates from Microsoft and Nokia to make your Lumia smartphone experience even better. So what can you look forward to, once Lumia Black is installed?
    App Folder. This brand new feature makes your Lumia experience even more fluid by giving you an option to further personalize and organize your Start screen. With App folders you can group similar apps and settings into one folder, a tile, on your Start screen.
    Nokia Glance screen 2.0. Helps you keep track of information in real time, making all your most important notifications including: phone, messages, email, outlook, calendar, or any apps that use notifications such as Twitter, Facebook, Whatsapp, or games; always visible at a glance on your screen. It saves you time and energy.
    Bluetooth LE. Will now be enabled across the full Windows Phone 8 Lumia range for compatible gadgets like the Adidas MiCoach accessories.
    Nokia Refocus. The amazing Nokia Refocus comes to all Windows Phone 8 Lumia smartphones with 1GB of RAM and upwards. This app has to be seen to be believed, so what better excuse for showing another example:
    Nokia Beamer. Sharing what’s on your phone is easier than ever with Nokia Beamer. No longer restricted to just photos, you can now beam documents, presentations, anything you like, to any HTML5-enabled screen by simply scanning a QR code on the screen. It’s coming to all of the phones with 1GB RAM upwards.
    Nokia Storyteller. This app debuted on the new Nokia Lumia 1520 and Lumia 2520 late last year. Now the experience comes to other Lumia smartphones. The app arranges your photos for you, by date and by place, making it easier to tell the stories behind your pictures, and give extra context through the close integration of interactive maps.
    Nokia Camera. Combines Nokia Pro Camera and Smart Camera to simplify the photo-taking experience, and ensure you get the perfect shot every time. The app has been available for Lumia PureView smartphones since last year, but it’s now coming to the rest of the WP8 Lumia range.
    The latest Nokia Camera update also brings raw DNG support for Lumia 1020 owners – something that’s already available for Lumia 1520. The DNG format gives you access to pure and untouched visual information, allowing you to do more and be more creative with your images. If you are an enthusiast or professional photographer, now you can use your professional workflow with your smartphone images.
    Latest generation of imaging algorithms. The Lumia Black update further improves the image quality, especially in Lumia 1020. Among others, the improvements include a new oversampling algorithm, making your images more natural looking with reduced noise, while ensuring your photos remain wonderfully sharp.
    The Lumia Black update also brings a series of enhancements from Microsoft to Nokia Lumia smartphones. These include safe driving mode – which cuts out unnecessary distractions when you’re on the road; customised ringtones for each contact. You can now also close apps within the in multitasking view and lock the screen rotation if you wish.
    “Nokia Lumia Black updates the imaging experiences on your Lumia and makes using the Windows Phone even more fluid. New App Folders and the ability to close apps in multitasker are my personal favourites. I also encourage everyone to try out the Nokia Refocus app that introduces a whole new dimension to photography,” says Samuli Hänninen, vice president of software program management for Nokia’s Smart Devices business.
    How do I update?
    The Lumia Black update has begun rolling out now for Lumia 1020 and Lumia 925 smartphones, with other models in the range following in the coming weeks. For more information go to http://www.nokia.com/global/support/software-update/wp8-software-update/.
    Your Nokia Lumia smartphone automatically checks for updates every week, and will notify you when it finds one. Otherwise, you can go to Settings -> Phone update and check for yourself. If Lumia Black is ready for your phone, you’ll be able to download and install it straight from that screen.

    Why is the Black update for Lumia 810 listed as not available?
    Does that mean Nokia has abandoned my device and I shouldn't hold my breath to see any fixes for it in the future?
    Is there a way to get this update through other channels (such as the "developer preview" that Microsoft did before GDR3 started rolling out) or is Nokia just killing support for yet another phone a year after the release?

    I also have this question...I was really bummed when i saw this. Hoping this is not the case.

  • GDR3 update for Lumia 822

    Hi,
    When is GDR3 update for lumia 822 expected? Any tentative timelines?If any one knows any information about it.

    Take this with a grain of salt, but if this is true I'm going to be really upset.
    According to a reddit post a user spoke with Nokia support (and Elop) and they are claiming VZW is not going to release Black for the 822, http://www.reddit.com/r/windowsphone/comments/1xrcx1/bad_news_lumia_810_and_822_owners_nokia_confirmed/ and to add insult to injury they asked not to update their site (http://www.nokia.com/global/support/software-update/wp8-software-update/availability-in-north-america/) to not say "Not available" fear of blacklash.
    Hasn't VZW heard of the internet and this information not get released?!?!?!

  • Phone inoperative after lumia black update

    Hi,
    I updated my Lumia 920 (UK version, unlocked) to Lumia Black/GDR3 when it went live. My phone became unresponsive after the installation. No default apps would work other than calculator. Try to launch any in-built app and it tries to launch then crashes out. Shutdown was also failing. Only hard restart worked. There was no error message. Very simply, nothing was working. Not the calendar, not the settings app, not the phone app, nothing. People would call me and they would hear the phone ringing, but there would be no activity on my phone. If I restarted the phone (hard reset), it would show that I had missed calls, but I cannot get into the app. The messaging app and toast notifications showed that I had x number of messages but I couldn't get in. Third party apps, on the other hand, launched successfully. I should say that only a few 3rd party apps installed successfully from backup, but wifi fails and the others don't install.
    I used the key press reset process to set back to factory default and reinstalled. Still the same problem. I took it to Microsoft store here in Houston, they couldn't make it work or downgrade back to (Amber) 8.0.10328.78.
    Fortunately, I was able to use the Nokia Software updater for retail to downgrade back to Amber. However, an attempt to upgrade again resulted in the same problems. I have now returned to GDR2 and am unwilling to upgrade again. What are my options?
    Incidentally, I was on the Preview for developers version of GDR3 before the general release and my current woes, but am stuck on Amber right now.

    I used the Nokia Software Updater for retail. I can't find the original link whose steps I followed, but the following link has pretty much the same steps: http://mynokiablog.com/2013/10/11/how-to-easily-fix-the-lumia-reset-spinning-cogs-at-home/.
    There are a few caveats. The tool downloads the latest firmware package from Nokia's (I assume) servers.When you connect your device, it searches for what is the latest firmware version and tries to download it, even if you already have a downloaded file. When I connected my device the first time, the firmware available was Amber. I used it and restored my phone successfuly. However, after trying to install Black again, and the problem repeating itself, I connected to NSU again and it downloaded a new firmware which appears to be Black and installing it resulted in the problem reoccuring. The software doesn't give any direct means to select an earlier downloaded firmware, or decline a download.
    The work around I discovered was to delete the latest firmware, and chose the work offline option (Server Configuration -> Work Offline). The system then used the firmware I had on the computer. The problem, of course, is you are going to be getting the firmware for Black, not Amber when you use NSU now and it may just perpetuate the problem. However, nothing ventured....
    One more thing, the firmware file is in excess of 1.3 GB.

  • Why still nokia lumia black update is not yet avai...

    Nokia has announced the GDR3 update for all of its windows 8 phones but still lumia 620 update availability shows waiting for approval. Lumia 620 has better specs than 520 but lumia 520 got the update ahead of 720 and 620. What may be the reason for this delay!!!?

    If they tell you the reason is there something you can do about it? You will eventually still need to wait regardless of what the reason for the delay is. asking repeatedly about the availability will not expedite the release.

  • Lumia 620 Lumia Black Update

    Why can't I update my Lumia 620 from Windows 8.0 to Lumia Black? When I try to manually check for updates, it says my phone is up to date... And it obviously isn't. I bought the phone in Libya, but I'm using mobile services from a Serbian provider. The Black update for Lumia 620 is supposedly available in both countries, and I have enough storage for the update, more than 3.5 GB - I have even tried doing a hard reset, but my phone still says that the system is up to date. Help!

    Did you try the Nokia Software Recovery Tool already? There in that tool, what is your Nokia Product Code? Does that code match the one which is printed on the label of your phone (seven characters)? The Nokia Product Code determines your firmware variant which determines your current version. We can check together, only with this code!

    How can i update only the Lumia Black Firmware to Lumia Cyan Firmware ?
    And i see on Nokia website that the status of the Cyan Update is available for my Lumia 520.
    Is it true ? http://www.wpcentral.com/preview-developers-still-need-downgrade-lumia-cyan

    Try the Nokia Software Recovery Tool. Be warned that it will delete all data and fresh install the OS. Back-up data to your live account and media on your PC first ..

    I updated my Lumia 625 3 weeks ago to GDR3 and it was supposed to update to Lumia black as well. However i didnt get the black update. the extras+info still shows amber however i received all the GDR3 options like screen orientation lock and closing the apps with the x button in multitasking window. I attached for you the screenshot of the "About Phone" showing that i have the latest OS version which i compared with my other Lumia 925 and it is the same.
    I've been trying to update in "Phone Update" for the past weeks and it is always showing that my phone is up to date. iI also checked nokia support page for my country Lebanon and it is showing as available. we do not have any carrier branded phone here so it is a SIM free phone.

    I am having the same issue.
    I was on the developer's preview for GDR3 (since November 2013) and then received Black update last week.
    Here are the version details as seen on my Lumia 920:
    OS Version: 8.0.10521.155
    Firmware Version: 3051.40000.1349.0025
    Hardware Version: 6.5.0.2
    Extras+info says I have Lumia Black.
    However, the lock screen settings doesnt have any Glance settings and I am not able to update glance as well.
    I've tried using the "SysApp Pusher" trick, but nothing has worked so far. I am not able to download StoryTeller as well. And in case this helps, I am with EE UK
