Only one application is able to play sound at a time.

I installed arch on my desktop a couple weeks ago (finally 100% windows free ), but I've been having the hardest time getting audio working flawlessly.
At first I was having problems using the correct sound card as default, but It seems I have that working now. I can get sound to play, but only 1 application can access the sound card at the same time. If I have spotify playing and I try to play a youtube video in browser, the video will play for a few seconds with no sound and then completely crash. If I pause spotify and refresh the youtube page, the video will play. And also, while a youtube video or anything else is playing, any other application will refuse to play sound.
I guess this is an issue with ALSA. My sound card seems to be blocking other sources.
If I run speaker-test while something is playing I get this output:

As always happens when I have issues, I try to solve it myself for hours on end, finally swallow my pride and post on the forums, and then find the solution on my own an hour later.

I took the asound.conf that iphitus posted and changed the ctl.dmixer to use my sound card, which is PCH as determined by asound -l.
here is my asound.conf:

I am not being able to play sound when I import a .MTS file from my folder on my sequence bar of my Premiere Pro CS6. Even if I use my Media Browser to import the file, the video plays fine, but the audio is disabled it seems. I don't know what to do since I have used .MTS files before without hassle on CS5.5. Please mention the Operating System that you are using and also make and model of the Camera that was used to capture those clips. Also, try to make another folder with the same name in the same location where the .MTS files are and move all the clips into the new folder and then try to import the files again using Media Browser in Premiere Pro CS6. If this doesn't work then make a copy of one file and rename it as .M2TS and then import that single file into Premiere Pro CS6. Please update if either of the solution works for you.

how do I get The ipad locked to run only one application for customers (just one web app, or video- instructions, or just safari). What I really want is that my customers to only use one app that has all my services. It is an interactive app so I would not like them to go surfing elsewhere while they are in my store.
Is it possible to do this on the iPad ?

Only one application streaming at a time?

Hi all, apologies if this has already been asked... I did have a look but seemed unable to find it!
Basically I have sequenced a couple of applications and have deployed them to my user account. It would seem however that only one application at a time is present on my machine, and when my SCCM client polls it switches between the two!
Any idea why this would be happening?

What happens if you add the packages via Add-AppVClientPackage directly to the client (i.e. one after the other).
It could be that each of the packages has the same package GUID.

Only one Application can be created at a time?

We are using enhanced model of SAP-WCM and are in the EHP6 version. We have additional applications, in addition to main application. We do not use Work permit.
Our users are creating work approval, applications & WCDs, manually as well as automatically from PM order. During manual creation of an application, if the user selects more than one options, system gives error and allows only one application to be created at a time. If more than one applications are required, he has to create them one by one. Similarly, in automatic creation of WCDs, if there is requirement of additional applications, users have to create additional applications manually.
Our problem is that the user often creates only one application or goes with the auto created applications & WCD, ignoring the requirement of additional applications. We wish that somehow if system can force the user to create additional applications required for a particular job and does not allow to prepare or issue the WCM objects until all required applications are created. For this it is required to first identify which applications to be created.
Our suggestion is, when we go for creation of application, it gives option to select type of applications with check-boxes. All the check-boxes should appear 'checked' by default and user has to 'uncheck' the application(s) not required for the particular job, before pressing OK button. On pressing the OK button, these choices must be stored in some table from where the system keeps track and prompts the user, until all the applications are created.
The experts in WCM are requested to advise if this requirement could be met in our present configuration of WCM. Is it possible using work permit? If yes, how can we implement work permit?

Can't open Firefox. When I try to open, a window pops saying "Close Firefox" and "A copy of Firefox is already open. Only one copy of Firefox can be open at a time.", and doesn't allow the application to open.

Came home to find computer restarted, which I assume is an automatic Firefox update.

This worked for me:
make sure hidden files can be seen
go to (user)/Library/Application Support/Firefox
find profiles.ini
open it with textedit and make sure the default profile is the same folder you have under Firefox/Profiles

I have shut down my mac for half a dozen times in response to the warning -- A Copy of Firefox is already open. Only one copy of Firefox can be open at a time -- that comes up each time I attempt to launch the browser. I have tried out the solutions suggested for previous users (on the Mozilla Forum) who were experiencing similar issues, but I can't even see Firefox on my Mac's Activity Monitor. What's going on?
I started experiencing this problem out of the blue on a networked computer two days ago (on Tuesday December 6). I have been using computers on this network for more than a year and it's only now that I have started experiencing this problem. Furthermore, I have been a Firefox user for more than four years and never encountered this issue. It's frustrating considering I have come to rely on Firefox as my browser of choice.
Other than this background I don't know what else to tell you by way of details.

Thanks for your prompt response. Intriguingly, when I logged on to my Mac (it's on a university network) this morning and launched Firefox it opened without a problem. If the issue resurfaces, I will try out the solutions you posted. Judging from the experiences of users who successfully trouble-shot their issues, apparently, Madakkadam's solution would be most helpful.

I was installing Firefox 4.0.1 and something went wrong. Now every time I try to open Firefox, an error message that says "A copy of firefox is already open. Only one copy of Firefox can be open at a time." I've looked it up and every forum says something about a terminal.. and lock files.. Could somebody PLEASE break it down and explain it as if you were talking to a 2 year old? I am computer illiterate.

The article explains how to find and stop the extra Firefox process that is causing problems. (You usually use Windows Task Manager to do this - if it is a Windows computer) There is a selection option on the help page with a + by it towards the top right, click that to change the help page details to match the operating system and version of Firefox you use.
If the problem keeps occurring it will be because Firefox has some files mixed up, for instance multiple copies of the files it uses to try to get Firefox to display the details of the last browsing session when you restart Firefox. You now need to follow the link from the above article to this one:

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.

I have tried to download and run Firefox on my MAC OS 10.6.7 several times and have run into this error message every time:
"A copy of Firefox is already open. Only one copy of Firefox can be open at a time". A search through the computer does not fine another copy of Firefox and there is no window open or evidence of the program open.
When I got this computer a year ago I copied the hard drive from the old computer onto the new and the old computer had a copy of Firefox on it and the program worked on that computer. It would not run on the new computer so I thought maybe it was due to the Intel chip so I deleted the program and downloaded the newest version at the time. This is when I started getting the error message and subsequent attempts have yielded the same results.
