Only the browser works

I'm posting this in hopes it will help the next person who has the same problem.
A friend of mine was setting up a new Mac and encountered a weird problem. Surfing the Internet worked (both Safari & Firefox), but 3rd-party applictions such as VersionTracker Pro and Adobe Reader would get errors saying they could not connect to the Internet. After checking many, many dead ends, it was discovered that the computer had its date set to the year 2037. The only clue to the problem was that upon running iTunes, it came up and said it could not connect to the Internet but also said to check the date on the computer.
I must say the Applecare dropped the ball on this one. They had been called but basically said it must be a problem with the 3rd-party apps. That might be an understandable answer in some circumstances, but when the computer is newly set up and a well-known application like Adobe Reader can't access the Internet that is otherwise clearly working, it really is not reasonable for Applecare to dismiss the matter.

Well, I didn't write out every little thing that happened, but my friend had set the date correctly and somehow it got corrupted. Maybe the internal battery failed, or maybe some software update screwed it up, but it was not due to user error. This is a long-time Mac user, so it's not like he would have accidentally set it wrong, and certainly not to 2037.
But still I assert that Apple has a responsibility to help when a brand new system exhibits such an obviously unexpected problem. Just because the user only noticed the problem in 3rd-party apps does not mean the problem can't be found in other Apple-supplied apps (like happened here.) And maybe Applecare should have a checklist of things to ask people who set up new computers with problems, one being "Is the date set correctly?"
Lastly, I don't think problem is that these application are date sensitive. It seems more likely some of the underlying network access routines are sensitive. Maybe TCP/IP worked with the bad date but these apps are using UDP. Since iTunes gave the same type of error as the 3rd-party apps (can't connect to Internet) it seems more likely to me that some network interface failed that happens not to be used for basic HTTP access.

I control a remote front panel in a browser (from the client PC). If I don't use the 'close' - button in my program to end the remote front panel, but instead of this the 'x' of the browser window (in the right bottom corner), my program won't be close, it continues on the server. Do you know how to end a VI by closing only the browser windows?

But I could not find a solution yet. Now I know how to end a VI by clicking on the x of the VIwindow.
My problem is, to end a VI by clicking on the x of the BROWSER window after I loaded and controlled a remote panel VI in a browser (e.g. IE).
If you have any ideas ... I'd be happy.

hi everybody...i just got my new ipod touch 4g since christmas and everything was fine until now...now at once only the homebutton works...the standbybutton and the two volumebuttons are not working anymore...and i really dont know what to do...please help me.

resetting won't work since the sleep button is not working.
I have the same issue.
I've tried resetting my iPod (Settings>General>Reset>Reset All Settings)
but it still won't work.
I'm not sure if it's hardware or software,
but this issue started after I updated my iPod to 4.2.1.
So yeah, I think I have to have it serviced.

I downloaded Firefox for Android on my Galaxy Tablet 7.0. The browser works fine when I first open it. When not in use and try getting bk on, nothing loads up.

I want to export a label to another print program and the entire workspace is in the JPG including not just the art I want, but anything else that is on the work space. You may create a rectangle the size of the artwork and Object>Crop Area>Make, then Save for Web.
Or you may use the Crop Area Tool, see the documentation or here,

Only one browser works now??

Funny thing happened today: put the PB to sleep like normal... later, woke it up and using Camino (my browser of choice since Safari was quitting on some sites), tried to get the internet, did not work, told me it was not connected to the internet.?. Looking in Network Preferences (set to Automatic) it said it was connected and showed the IP number; Looking further, it had all the numbers listed and was set to go. Nothing would take in Camino; tried Opera... no connection there either; tried SeaMonkey... no connection their either; tried Safari... IT WORKED! Went back to Camino... no connection. Now I'm back to using Safari (Camino has more speed).
My question is: what happened? Why is the internet connection there but ONLY Safari can connect to it? Did some setting in Camino go wacky? All by itself? While it was sleeping?
Or did it just get up on the wrong side of the bed ???

A bit of history here:
When I got my service provider (Comcast High Speed... was dial-up before that), I wanted to run it thru Airport Express for flexibility of my only PB at the time, this 15" PB. But could not set it up and make it work. On the phone with them, it had to be set up with a direct ethernet connection (first)(also the first setting in Network Preferences - labeled Comcast). Then, I hooked up the cable modem to the WiFi and set up Network Preferences for that - Comcast2. No problems with it, but left it in Automatic for which ever way was connected but moved Airport to the top of the list (over Built-in Ethernet). Then I got the 17" PB, and set that up as a Home Based Desktop with the Ethernet connection. No problems with either PB connecting. Later I got a Network Printer and had to get a Hub to sort it all out. As it is now, the 17" is connected with Built-in Ethernet to the Hub; while the cable modem is also going to the Hub; the Printer is also connected to the Hub as is the Airport Express. This system works well for the 17" PB being always on the desk and the 15" PB being Mobile. This final setup became Comcast3, with the printer included. All three are able to be selected 'individually' but when left on 'Automatic' Network Preferences finds the right one.
I did try the clone on the 17" Pb, connected by Ethernet, and it worked for all the browsers. So, just a minute ago, hooked up the 15" PB direct to the Ethernet and tried it under the Automatic Setting (first)... again, only Safari connected, the others did not. Then, put the Network Setting on Comcast (the original setting it was set-up with), and still only Safari connected. This last try, I had it direct to the cable modem, by-passing the Hub-Network.
It's like Safari is telling me it is not such a bad browser After-All, as Camino can not do it Now (nor can the others) . There seems to be something Deep in the Heart of, not Texas, but OSX that has put a stop to the others being able to connect on this 15" PB (while not the 17" PB, as the clone showed). And yes, for now, I am leaving the 15" PB connected hardwired (Ethernet) until I can find out what happened. The Airport WiFi does have WPA2 on it, and I can usually see 2 others in range, but have had no problems with channels or interference from them in the past.

I can only get the sound going when mirroring through my macbook. it worked before but now suddenly only sound comes through. There's no problem mirroring my iphone or my ipad. then i get sound and picture. it must be a setting. what have i done and how do i sort it out?

I am having a similar problem, that has just started recently. I am on OS 10.5.8 with all security updates run. My Mail account is an IMAP account. When I check my mail through webmail on Safari, my new messages show up immediately. However, Mail does not show them. Clicking the "check mail" button does not bring them in. I have to quit Mail and re-start it, then the messages show.
I tried to implement Ernie's solution of turning off "Use IDLE". That command is ticked in my preferences, however it is greyed out and I can't change it. Why is that? If it helps, my IMAP path prefix is blank, I'm using port 133, and "use SSL" is not ticked. These are all default settings that I have used successfully for years and haven't fiddled with.

Only the trackball works!

And the trackball click feature doesn't work either.
I can only scroll around with the trackball, but I can't use the trackball as a button. My blackberry can recieve calls and messages. The screen becomes activated when plugged into the charger or by recieving a calls/emails. BUT, once the screen is visable I can still only scroll through the icons that are visable using the trackball, and I cannot use the trackball to click, or any other keys on the phone. I cannot use the power button, the call button, the sleep button or any other key on the phone.
This happened to me a while back when I had some water damage, I ended up sending the phone in and paying an insurance fee etc..
This time the phone did not recieve any water damage...
I tried taking out the battery..arghh, any other tips, or ways of reseting the phone would be great..

Ok well you can try hard reseting your phone..thats menu>options>security options>general settings> press menu key click wipe handheld..
Dont forget to backup your contacts with BB desktop manager first... Plug phone into computer when you get it installed and click on back up and restore then click back up.. save copy to your desktop .. then after hard wipe click on backup and restore again but this time select the file you saved to your desktop and load them back to your phone...

I just update using the app store on my mid 2012 MacBook Pro, and my trackpad wouldn't work, it won't move the mouse but it would still click, I'm using a extrenal mouse at the moment. It really hard carrying your mouse and computer around. Can someone please help me? I also try restting Pram and Scm but it did nothing.

This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. For instructions, launch the System Preferences application, select Help from the menu bar, and enter “Set up guest users” (without the quotes) in the search box. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode* and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Shut down your computer, wait 30 seconds, and then hold down the shift key while pressing the power button.
When you see the gray Apple logo, release the shift key.
If you are prompted to log in, type your password, and then hold down the shift key again as you click Log in.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
*Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t boot in safe mode.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of steps 1 and 2.

Apple's Camera Connection Kit includes both an SD adapter and a USB adapter. You can use an SD card or an adapted Mini SD card with the SD adapter. You can use a USB thumb drive with the USB adapter, as well as a USB adapter for other cards such as Compact Flash. (Some card adapters draw too much current and require a powered USB hub to work.)
It is required that the camera card or thumb drive be formatted as MS-DOS FAT, just as if it had been formatted in a camera. Photos and videos must be in a folder named DCIM, and have names consisting of 8 characters plus suffix, just as they would have been named in a camera.
Some video formats are not compatible with the iPad video player and must be converted on your computer. (The iPad can read M4V, MP4 and some MOV files.)

When I start firefox 9.0.1 in windows xp, a popup that says "Log onto x-marks" appears briefly, then the browser locks up. If I can hit cancel before it locks up, the browser works normally.

It was working fine, then all of a sudden it started doing this. I uninstalled the program and reinstalled it from the internet, but it still does the same thing. Rebooting the computer didn't help either.
