Onscreen piano keys stuck when using midi controller

Hi,
I am using a Yamaha PSR-172 as my midi controller. I use SoundTech's Lightsnake as my midi-usb connector. It is supposed to power the Yamaha keyboard from the usb, but it doesn't; I still need to use the yamaha power adaptor. Anyway, my onscreen keyboard displays the notes I play on the Yamaha; they colour as I play them via the controller. Sometimes they continue to make sound after I have released them, and the onscreen keys stay coloured. The sound continues until I change instruments or close garageband. There is no problem with the Yamaha PSR-172 when I use it as a stand alone instrument. Any explanation or suggestion would be appreciated.
Thanks,
shirtless

No, I'm not using a sustain pedal. I'm using the Microkorg and the keys are pretty horrible (sticky and aren't that responsive), could it be this that's causing the notes to sustain indefinitely (until I press the key of the note that won't stop ringing)?
Yes, it could be that no note off (or similar/equivalent message) is being sent. You should watch your MIDI in/out on the right side of the display in the transport bar and assert if any message is being sent when you release the key. It could be that when you strike it a second time that the note off message is being sent, especially if the electrical contacts are dirty.
A new keyboard will probably solve that, yes. Unless it also has dirty contacts.

  • "zipper" noise when using MIDI controller

When using MIDI faders to control guitar amp settings (gain, EQ, etc) I hear a very loud "zipper" noise when I make changes. This makes it very unlikely I can use it live. Has anyone else experienced this?

By "flakey as heck," I mean that the stop button stops play, and brings it back to the beginning of the song, even if I only hit it once. In other words, I can't just stop playback where the song is at the moment I hit stop. When I hit fast forward or rewind, it doesn't always respond, and when it does, it often skips randomly, sometimes going one step in the grid, sometimes more than one, sometimes not at all. I think what is happening is that the transport controls are trying to control Logic but using messages designed for Reason. I say this only because, when I am using Logic, but not Reason in ReWire, the transport controls work exactly as they should.

  • Alt key stuck when using mouse in flash CS5.5 on os x lion. sucks. please help.

    Hi there,
since I've updated to lion flash cs5.5 is utterly unusable. The alt key is always stuck in this app when I use the mouse. So if I select something then try to move it, it copies it (as if I was holding down alt key). It basically means I can't use flash for anything..
Has anyone else had this issue and resolved it?
I saw similar forum posts for photoshop cs5 and snow leopard, and even tried the utility provided on those forums. Didn't work.
I removed my wacom tablet driver,
    I reinstalled flash,
I shut down EVERYTHING except flash.  Nothing works - alt key is always active in flash.
Is this some kind of bad joke from Adobe? Is there really no fix for this? I can't believe it - honestly...
Additional note - in the key remapping page - it reckognizes the alt key normally, and all other key combinations - it is only when using the mouse that the alt key is stuck.

    Hello,
I was having the same exact problems with Flash Professional after upgrading my OS X to Lion.  (Alt/Option key seems like it's stuck / Duplicating objects on stage just by clicking and moving the object.)  My main problem was not being able to curve a straight line with the Arrow tool.  Instead it would create a corner point as if the Alt/Option key was being held.
I stumbled upon this thread before finding my solution so I thought I'd share what worked for me.
Here is the thread I found with the solution that worked:
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/5222999
Basically I had a program called AirDisplay installed.  AirDisplay allows me to use my iPad as a second monitor for my Mac.  So if you have this program installed, or one similar to AirDisplay, uninstalling this program may get your Flash Professional to work correctly again.  It certainly did for me to my amazement.
Hope this works for you or anyone else who is experiencing this weird and frustrating problem!

  • Turning Region Loops On and off using MIDI controller

    hi,
i got an Akai MPD24 MIDI controller today for a gig in two days...basically what I need it to do is to assign a pad on it to play a MIDI region in a loop when I press it once, then stop playing the region when I press it again. From reading the manual I've got the impression you need to use Touch Tracks, but at the moment how you go about assigning a pad to loop a MIDI region is going over my head! I'm sure this is a very easy thing to do but I'm new to this sort of stuff...could anyone give me some pointers on how to do it? Cheers.

Your gig seems to be done, but in case you still need to know and haven't figured out how to do it:
    • create a Touch Track
    • open it
    • drop the regions on it's keys (beginning on the lower notes)
    • assign all the tracks that shouldn't mute one-another to different groups
    • set Trigger Mode to „Toggle Loop“
    • adjust the other parameters the way you need them
I think the Touch Tracks have great potential, but editing them really isn't as slick as is should be…

  • Using MIDI controller - Delay (Laten

Im using an M-Audio Radeum6 key controller connected to the computer via USB. The software for the keyboard is installed and working properly. There is a serious delay in sound being generated by my audio software from the midi controller. I realize that MIDI controllers do not generate sound, but notes - and the audio software generates the sound. How can I eliminate the latency? there should be none if everything is working properly. I have an Audigy 2 LS and believe it should be capable of playing the midi controller immediately as the controllers manual says it will. What am I doing wrong? Is there some setting, driver, connection, etc. which is not setup properly?

    noiziman,
The ASIO drivers deals with digital audio signals between the software and the card, and it isn?t related with MIDI signals.
Anyway, it isn't clear from the original question if the delay comes from the MIDI device itself or from the digital audio processing, since for the later he should be using a software synth. If he's using the hardware sampler (i.e. Emu0k processor in internal SB Li've/SB Audigy with SoundFonts), the problem shouldnt have to do with ASIO.
To chek out this, i?d record in a MIDI track the signals received from the MIDI device (with the proper timming it should have, no matter the current latency of the resulting sound), and then i'd inspect the track (or it'ss event list view) looking for the singnals recorded from the controller. If the signals where received on time (that is, the timestamp matches the timestamp of an associated music event), then the latency comes from the synth. With a software synth, the ASIO settings would help with the latency (or a faster computer :-).
But if the timestamp doesn?t fit where theyre supposed to fit, then the delay comes from the MIDI cables or setup. If so, try:
) To increase the "ticks per quarter note" in the MIDI setup for the song (or decrease this, if the problem comes from overloading the MIDI network with signals)
    2) Rewire the MIDI cables, i.e., avoiding chaining this controller trough other devices nor using MIDI THRU. At least i?d try pluging the controller right into the MIDI IN from the soundcard to test the latency.
    3) I don't know that controller, but if it's a synchronized one, try turning off sync (or using another device for sync).
    Hope this hel
    ps.

  • Sustain hanging when using midi source with multilayered sustain

when using the rp800 digital piano as midi source for a software instrument, the sustain hangs (remains on) as soon as i have depressed the sustain pedal and released it.
i think it might have to do with that the rp800 is sending several signals after how much the pedal is depressed (several degrees of sustain) which confuses garageband so when you release the pedal, garageband seems to believe the pedal is still depressed.
i've tried to see if the rp800 could be configured to send only on/off sustain but no can do as far as i can see.
anyone else had similar problem and found a workaround for it?

That sounds strange for a sustain pedal, which usually sends on/off only. Are you sure the pedal is plugged into the right jack? Are you sure it's not defective? Can you do a hard reset of the keyboard (which sometimes gets misbehaving controllers back in line)?
A problem I'm more familiar with is the sustain being reversed if a keyboard is turned on with the pedal in the "on" position (which it then thinks is the "off" position) which can be fixed by just turning the unit off and on again with the pedal up.
If none of that works - and no one here can think of anything else - I'd check with rp800 tech support or see if they have a forum.

  • Why should we select all key fields when using for all entries

    Hi,
Why should we select all key fields in our select query when using for all entries statement?
I read about for all entries but this point was not clear in any post.
    Please explain me
    Regards,
    Subhashini

    Dear Subhasini,
It is because FOR ALL ENTRIES deletes the duplicate entries before populating the target internal table.
Please do an F1 on FOR ALL ENTRIES & read the SAP documentation.
I mean how duplicate entries will not get deleted when we use this?
Quite simple, if you select  all key fields then each entry will be unique & there will not be any duplicate entries to delete !!

  • Why does my dock get stuck when using full screen apps?

When using a full screen app like Safari, if I go back to my desktop and to the dock (which i keep minimized) it stays there when going back to the full screen app. I have to go back to the first page and hover over the dock to get it to go back. Not sure whats going on...

I may not have explained exactly...so basically when i go to the main desktop screen, and open a program or use the dock, it sometimes gets stuck in show mode. Then when i go back to the safari full screen app for instance, the dock stays up, with the latest program highlighted. In order to get the dock to go away, i need to go back to the desktop and hover over the dock again for it to hide.
I really hope someone else is experiencing this because its very annoying and I want apple to fix it quickly

  • Return key disabled when using safari with Mavericks OS X

    Hi,
Has anyone got a way to use return key when using safari??

    niall1111 wrote:
It is,and always was, the return key that did this in snow leopard and other operating systems!
??? I have two Macs that can run Snow Leopard & in neither of them does the return key take me back a page. Also, nowhere in the lists of keyboard shortcuts for OS X or any of the browsers I use (Safari, Firefox, & Chrome) is the return key mentioned as providing this shortcut.
Some web pages may have been programmed to respond to the return key that way, but not many I have ever encountered are. I guess it is possible some extension or other third party add-on might provide that function, but itis definitely not something that has ever been built into OS X or any of the common browsers used with it.
In Safari (on Snow Leopard, Lion, Mountain Lion, & Mavericks) two keyboard shortcuts are provided by default to go back a page: one is the CMD-[ combination Barney already mentioned. The other is CMD + the left cursor key. Likewise, CMD+] or CMD + the right cursor key will take you forward a page (if you have previously gone back to a previous page).

  • New Mac Air's FaceTime HD webcam gets stuck when using Skype

    Hi all,
I just bought new MacBook Air. I have a problem when I want to video chat with my friends or family on Skype using my FaceTime HD webcam. It gets stuck on a loop after a minute. If I reload it it works for a minute and then it happens again.
I am not using any other programs at the same time when using Skype such as iPhoto or Photo Booth.
I do not know if it is a software or hardware problem. Have anyone experienced the same or anyone knows how to fix it?
    Cheers,
    Kip

Hi Kip - I have been experiencing the same thing here.
Latest model Macbook Air 13", OSX 10.8.3, Skype 6.3.0.602
It works for the first time for a few minutes, then it will either freeze or do a continuous half second loop. turning video off then on will work for a minute or two, then it will go into the loop again.
I have searched the skype forums and found all sorts of weird suggestions to uninstall, re-install certain versions, delete stuff out off application folders etc, but nothing to reliably fix the issue.
heres the main thread: http://community.skype.com/t5/Mac/Video-Calls-Glitching-Since-Mac-OS-X-10-8-3-an d-Skype-6-3/td-p/1492372/page/2

It looks to definately be a skype issue from the forums there, and its just a wait now till Skype can sort it out unfortunately.

  • WRE54G v3 - WEP key setting when using ASCII passphrase

When entering WEP information for this device you may notice that the range expander is asking for the WEP key in hex (for example: 128 bits 26 hex digits). If the key that you have set in your router is using a passphrase then you will need to convert it to hex. Entering the passphrase and clicking the generate button will not work if your router is set to use ASCII as the WEP key format. The result seems to be that the PC may attempt to connect (and/or show as connected) but will not receive an IP address and does not really connect to your network. Strangely, the WRE54G will show that it has connected sucessfully to the router. Instead, convert the passphrase to hex one character at a time then enter the hex digits as the hex key. For example: if you are using 128 bit and your passkey is: 1234567890123 then enter 31323334353637383930313233 as the 128bit hex key (1 in ASCII = 31 in hex, 2 in ASCII = 32 in hex, etc...). http://www.asciitable.com/

Hi, The solution I posted above works for me . I can ping the WRE from the network and access the configuration page. The wireless router I am connecting to is a TP-LINK TL-WR340G. The extender is a WRE54G ver. 3 running v3.04.01 firmware. Instead of converting the passphrase to hex I could just set the TP-LINK router to use a hex key instead but thats a pain. Then I would have to type in a long hex key when adding another wireless device to the network or when allowing a guest device on the network. An ASCII passphrase is so much easier to remember and much less typing. If I leave the TP-LINK router set to accept an ASCII passphrase then convert the ASCII passphrase to hex and enter it into the WRE extender then I can use an ASCII passphrase when connecting a device through the extender .
What I found confusing initially though (before finding the solution) was that if I enter the ASCII passphrase into the extender setup and click the generate button for it to generate the 4 hex keys, the extender claims to connect successfully. I cannot ping it from the network and a wireless device will not get a connection through it but the light does turn blue and the setup screen shows the correct mac address in the link status section. Seems like a bug...

There is no way that you can press multiple buttons at exactly the same time. Which keys are you trying to press? Are you talking about "PlatMods" (shift, ctrl, etc.)?
Keep a shift registers with the states of the desired buttons in a boolean array and change the respective elements to true or false, depending on key-up and key-down events. On the Key down events, check if all elements are true and act accordingly.

  • GB 10 - spinning ball when using midi draw.

    Hi,
I'm new to the Apple forum. I'm trying to write a song, using GB musical typing and the software instruments. Every single time I try to type a new note in Midi draw, I get a spinning wheel before the note appears and then again after it appears. The only other tracks open are a piano track (copied from my hard drive - from an older GB) and an audio file with a drum beat. I would really appreciate your help.

I have to think you are just dealing with a bug in the 0.2 code of iTheatre.
Have you tried your question on the iTheatre support forums?
It is particularly odd that you don't have the problem with your monitor, but do with the TV.
If diagnosing this, I would experiment with having/not having a network share alias. And also trying different xvid files, in case there is some odd about one of them.
