Opacity Problem

I've created a tabbed panel, and I set the fill for that panel's opacity to be 80%, but now when I insert a youtube video into that panel, the video's opacity is also 80%. Is there a way to set a panel's opacity at 80% but leave the contents, like text and HTML inserts at 100%?

Never mind, I got it. For some reason I didn't see the fill opacity option. Duh!

Opacity problems with exported movie

Hi all
I'm having an issue with Motion 5. My project is 3046x1080 @ 30fps with a transparent canvas as a background and I have my timeline with about 5 clips all placed in seperate layers. All I'm trying to do is fade from one clip to the next so I first tried the 'Fade in/out' behaviour on each clip at 30 (I'm working at 30fps so this is 1 second?) and nothing appeared to happen on the canvas. It was only once I had the fade in time up to 100 when I started to see any fading on the canvas. I tried an export to quicktime as a test, but all the clips that had a fade in didn't fade in at all the just cut. So, I then went in and set all the fades manually - adjusting the opacity with keyframes only to have the same result as before.
The exported movie does retain the transparent background however - Motion just seems to be ignoring the opacity levels I've set. The only alternative I have found is to copy all my content across to my other machine and use Motion 4 - but that cripples that machine, certainly at this resolution I"m working at! Fortunately the clip I'm working on is only 30 seconds long....
Anyone got any ideas? I've searched the board but haven't found anything...

Thanks for the reply! I had checked to make sure everything was lined up but I double checked and indeed the fade in/out behaviour were indeed lined up to the clip. The export was also set to Colour + Alpha.
Upon further testing, as I don't really want to endure working at this resolution in Motion4, I've found my error - I didn't have the premultiplied Alpha enabled - I seem to remember I had a problem with that in the past hence turning it off.
So that appears to have solved my problem.....

Opacity problem in CS3

Layer opacity is 100%. I select an area and delete it. But in the deleted area there remains a pale transparent remnant of the image I just deleted. Plus, the area outside the selection has become slightly transparent. Tiff or psd, same result. I save it as a jpeg, and the ghost image remains.
Also, when I fill a selected area with solid white, it lightens the area as if the layer was transparent.

What am I doing wrong?

In desperation I reinstalled the program last night.
It’s behaving nicely today. I’ll probably never know what the exact problem was, but the default settings seem to have put it right.

CS6 Clone tool opacity problem

I am familiar with the operation of the clone tool in previous versions of Photoshop.... However after upgrading to CS6 I am having a problem with the functionality of the clone tool.
Basically when using the clone tool when its set to 100% opacity & flow, it looks as though the clone tool is only set to 50% opacity.
I'm not sure if there is a setting I am not aware of that can fix this... I am using the default configuration that came with the program.
My previous version was CS3... clone tool worked perfectly there... I dont understand why the same tool doesnt perform the same way with the same apparent settings.
If anyone has a simple solution I would love to hear it.

You must be using a brush preset that has those settings (wet edges & build-up) enabled in the brush panel.
Not all the brushes have those settings enabled in the the brush panel unless you were to lock those settings or just changing the tip shape.
Also in the the brush panel there is only the option to set the tip shape, unlike cs3 that has both tip shape and brush presets in the same panel.
Cs6 uses a separate panel called Brush Presets for changing the presets.
In cs6 Build Up is the same as Airbrush on in cs3.
Transfer is what Other Dynamics was in cs3

Copy/paste opacity problem

I´m having this weir issue with objects that have gradients with opacity.
If I drag to copy, it´s makes a perfect copy. But if I copy/paste the object it becomes solid. This applys copy/paste in the same document and if I try to copy/paste into a new document.
This problem came with the upgrade to Illustrator CS6.

Opacity problems

So recently I've been having problems with opacity when using the brush tool. It used to be complete, but now the opacity is much much lower, and I've checked the layer opacity and the opacity next to the "Mode" drop-down menu, and both are set to 100%, so I don't know what the problem could be. Anyone have any ideas?

It sounds like you have either accidentally or on purpose changed the flow setting. With the brush tool selected, press your shift key and 0 (that's zero key) to set the flow setting to 100%.
FYI, the flow setting is a Photoshop option which isn't listed in the Elements options bar. This option although not listed can be called up using keyboard shortcuts. This setting is sticky and will stay even between sessions. To change the setting to default, you either need to use the shortcut (shift + 0) or reset the preference files.

Opacity Problem in IE...

Hello--
I have this problem with internet explorer on certain computers. When you click on "general blog" in the nav bar of my site, the text is so opaque that you can barely read it, but in iWeb it is at 100% and is totally visible. It is fine in Safari as well. I've tried emptying the cache, resetting explorer, etc. but I am at a loss as to what to do now. Could people possible tell me if they see the problem and if they do, if there are any ways to fix this?

When you're having a problem with IE, it's very important to know what versions you're dealing with. Microsoft only very recently began supporting PNG to a decent degree such that each version older you examine will have more and more problems with iWeb created pages.
If a user isn't using the latest version, then the only thing you can do to TRY to compensate is dumb down your pages...removing as many effects as possible, making your page extremely simple in design. It'll do better on more different versions of IE then, but it may not be the look you want to represent you.

Text Opacity Problem

We are using Mac InDesign CS 5.5 on multiple computers to create pages that will go together in a final product. For part of the design we are making the text with white letters set to 10% opacity. We are using the same steps to create this effect on all the computers however, on some of the computers the text disappears completely with the setting while on others the text is visible.
To create the opactiy settings, we create the textbox, type the text, select white from the swatches. With the text box selected we go to Objects >> Effects >> Transparency. We select Text under Settings For: and then change the opacity to 10% under basic blending, mode normal.
Any ideas on why the same setting is not showing the same when created on different computers?

I'm guessing that these computers are different models, different manufacturers, every different operating systems, right? Different hardware have different capabilities to reproduce the RGB signals. You're picking a value at the edge of the monitor response so you're seeing different results. (It's like walking into a Best Buy and looking at a wall of TVs and seeing different color displays of a football game. The TVs are from different manufacturers and have different hardware/software signals and response.)

The hope was that all the menu-items start off as a little
bit transparent over the main graphic of the webpage. Then once the
user hovers over a menu-item, or that menu-item is open with
submenus, then the menu-item turns opaque. This works fine in
Firefox and Safari, but in IE7 the menu-item never becomes
transparent. I have a suspicion that it has to do with the opacity
control within the anchor style, but I'm not sure how else to do
this within the sprymenubar framework.
Does anyone have any thoughts/suggestions?

IWeb with Google Chrome Opacity Problem

Hi, I'm relatively new to iWeb and probabably do not know many features, so.. don't blame me if i do not know what you mean
In iWeb, I created some text with shadows and line dividers, both with opacity on them:
and with changing colors when cursor hovers over the links:
However, after I published it, it appeared like this when using the latest version of Google Chrome on Mac OS X 10.6.8:
with no opacity on the shadow and line dividers, and no change of color when hovering over the text.
Also, only the opacity works on Safari, not the color change. Is it due to my browser? or did I just missed out options when publishing? o.O

The more complex it gets, the less it can be done in iWeb.

Problem with opacity on my Mac

Hi there,
I have some trouble with the opacity with my Mac. Since i bought it (january 2013), when I watch a video in full screen, in Quicktime or VLC, I saw in transparency the windows that I have in background (Safari, Mail or anything it's opened). It hapen also in InDesign, Illustrator, Apercu... In every software that is not a white window.
I don't know if i'm very clear and I don't know if it's visible on the screenshot here because when I open it, I saw in transparency my other windows...

Some news. I had a failing LCD screen and get some trouble with "ghost picture" on the screen : the picture used to stay on the screen. It's the reason why I thinked it was an opacity problem.
So my Mac was fixed and now it works very well !

A problem with small circles drawing...

I can't draw small circles and dots. Don't advise me to use the zoom. Is it a normal issue for Samsung Note 10.1 or Photoshop Touch?

I have the same problem on my samsung galaxy note 10.1 and PS touch v 1.2.0 (can't upgrade it without new official firmware).
And I really don't know how to post screenshot with items that cannot be painted with your software.
On this device drawing is done with stylus (If you dont know). Stylus provide great precision and allow to paint small details.
The problem is that brush does not start drawing immediately after stylus touching the screen. Instead of this it waits until user will move stylus away from start point by 3 millimiters. And only after that photoshop will draw the first segment of line. If you try to draw small circle with diameter of 3 mm photoshop will draw just start point. Because stylus will never leave 3 mm area around touching point. this also means that you can't draw lines with length less than 3mm. And this also means that every line will start with 3mm straight segment. So you can't draw small details.
This small thing (and also bugs with smudge and blur tools and opacity problems with brush and awful color picking tool) made painting with photoshop really tricky.
Maybe you made this 3mm margin to make your color picker work (which pick color only after touching the screen and then pressing side button). But it is unobvious for users (as you can see by questions on yor forums) and bring some additional problems with painting (as you can see in this post).
And what is really terrible is that I can't just delete your useless software without root rights because it was preinstalled by samsung.

Color swatches in RGB

Hey guys, I'm using indesign cs4 and when I click on the color tab on the right the color slides are in RGB. The project I'm working on is meant for print, is there someway that I can change this? I guess because I'm seeing RGB there I'm afraid it won't print when it comes time to print, shouldn't I be seeing CMYK?
Also, when placing an image is it true that resizing the image (raster) will degrade the quality in indesign?

Whew, okay I think what I was seeing was the RGB color sliders (think it was the color picker) and I never do anything for web so I just wanted to make sure the profile was set right. Rob if ID doesn't recognize grayscale profiles should I just set it as CMYK and leave it alone? The opacity problem wasn't any big deal I just left it alone and set everything back to 100%. I know Peter has kind of glossed over transparency before but it's still something I've had a hard time understanding. So I guess now my questions are should I go back and convert this images to CMYK instead of gray gamma? What is transparency and how do I add it? What is transparency blend space?
Sorry if this is a lot I'm just trying to understand, thanks guys!

Problem Saving PDF with Opacity Masks in Illustrator CS3

I'm having trouble exporting an Illlustrator CS3 file to PDF. I have two layers in the the .ai file that have opacity masks applied. When I save the file as a PDF, the two layers with opacity masks seem to disappear (or they are flattened down to white/100% transparency.) They do not show on screen nor when printing. I've tried opening the saved PDF in Illustrator to investigate, and the layers are still there, but with no opacity mask. Where am I going wrong? I've tried a new file with a simple shape and a simple opacity mask, and it exports fine to PDF. So something is wrong with my file set up, but I can't pinpoint what! I have also tried exporting to various versions of PDF, and nothing works. Help!

Not sure what's going on in your file, but it's definately having a problem with the Steaks layer. Trying to release the clipping mask and ungrouping all the layers is having a problem so it might have something to do with the way the streaks layer was built.
Using your file I replaced the streaks layer and put a starburst that's clipped to the icon shape. I've attached two files. One is for Illustrator CC so you can retain the gradient fill on the stroke which is only available in newer versions of Illustrator. The other has the starburst I created expanded so that you can open the file and retain the startburst look.

Never had this issues in previous versions. This IS a black/white gradient opacity mask over a black and white photo, but still don't think that is the problem.
