OPatch error 41, Windoze, 11.2.0.3
Hi all,
I've read the entire thread from back in October 2011, "Applying Patch failed with error code 41" The platform is Windoze Server Std Edition R2, x64. Oracle 11.2.0.3, just installed, "Software only"
I've followed Werner's (uid=oradba) suggestion to rename oracle base directory; restart system; name oracle base back > run OPatch. Still get same error code 41.
I've tried the suggestion to run as Administrator. Same error code 41.
I've got no DLLs or other files in my list of "being used by some other processes." All 32 instances of my file in use error are: D:\oracle\product\11.2.0\dbhome_1\oui\jlib\srvm.jar Does OUI limit the modification of srvm.jar? How to I get it to relinquish control?
The Opatch error echoed to the display is:
Applying interim patch '13885389' to OH 'D:\oracle\product\11.2.0\dbhome_1'
Verifying environment and performing prerequisite checks...
+Patch 13885389: Optional component(s) missing : [ oracle.precomp.lang, 11.2.0.3.0 ] , [ oracle.rdbms.tg4msql, 11.2.0.3.0 ] ,+

The details are:

D:\oracle\product\11.2.0\dbhome_1\oui\jlib\srvm.jar
D:\oracle\product\11.2.0\dbhome_1\oui\jlib\srvm.jar
Does anyone have suggestions for me? I've tried the work arounds that I found in prior forum threads, but these haven't worked for me!
Cheers,
PT

Hi,
I am upgrading our EBS 11i database (9.2.0.5.0) to 9.2.0.8.0 by following note : 216550.1 (Interoperability Notes Oracle Applications Release 11i with Oracle9i Release 2 (9.2.0)).
I have installed Opatch 2617419 and then installed 6880880 (p6880880_101000_WINNT.zip) (OUI patch).
While applying Windows patch 6 (5916268) ,using opatch I am getting the following error:
OPATCH_JAVA_ERROR=OPatch Exception while trying to check for Mini Patchset
Cannot check bug/file conflict and component prerequisite checks.
ERROR: OPatch failed during prerequisite check.
OPatch returns with error code = 150
Any help to resolve the issue is appreciated.
I saw note +'OPATCH_JAVA_ERROR=OPatch Exception While Trying to Check for Mini Patchset' while applying patch using opatch 1.0.0.0.x [ID 971783.1].+
There are no '&' in the inventory file. There are a lot of '<'. I dont know if this note is applicable.
Thanks
Thiru.Hi,
I am following section 2 only.
In Section 2, # 7 we have to apply latest Oracle Patching Tool (OPatch) patch 2617419 and in # 8 we have to apply additional 9.2.0.8 RDBMS patches ( in our case it is Windows patch 6.
I am getting issue while applying Windows patch 6 using opatch.

Opatch error: Unable to lock Central Inventory
A) When applying Oracle one-off patches I get this error:
Unable to lock Central Inventory. Stop trying per user-request?
OPatchSession cannot load inventory for the given Oracle Home /oracle/VRQ/102_64. Possible causes are:
No read or write permission to ORACLE_HOME/.patch_storage
Central Inventory is locked by another OUI instance
No read permission to Central Inventory
The lock file exists in ORACLE_HOME/.patch_storage
The Oracle Home does not exist in Central Inventory
B) Researching the error, I find thes solutions...
This error may occur because of any one or more of the following reasons:
1. The ORACLE_HOME/.patch_storage may not have read/write permissions. Ensure that you give read/write permissions to this folder and apply the patch again.
2. There may be another Oracle Universal Installer instance running. Stop it and try applying the patch again.
3. The Central Inventory may not have read permission. Ensure that you give read permission to the Central Inventory and apply the patch again.
4. The ORACLE_HOME/.patch_storage directory might be locked. If this directory is locked, you will find a file named patch_locked inside this directory. This may be due to a previously failed installation of a patch. To remove the lock, restore the Oracle home and remove the patch_locked file from the ORACLE_HOME/.patch_storage directory. For more information on restoring the Oracle home, refer to section "Restoring Oracle Homes".
5. The Oracle home may not be present in the Central Inventory. This may be due to a corrupted or lost inventory or the inventory may not be registered in the Central Inventory. For more information, refer to section "Diagnosing and Recovering from Central Inventory Corruption".
C) Everyhing looks okay. What am I missing?
Oracle - 10.2.0.4
OS - AIX 6.1
Multiple database on the server: IPQ and VRQ
Thanks in advance.Hi,
did you setup a seperate oraInventory for each of both instances as recommended?
Check the contents of oraInst.loc
(On Solaris in /var/opt/oracle, not sure if the same on AIX)
It should point to the Inventory Location.
May be yours is pointing to the other ORACLE_HOME-Inventory.
I tend to use the Inventory location
/oracle/SID/oraInventory, so each ORACLE_HOME has its
own non-mixed inventory.
But you have to keep in mind that oraInst.loc needs to be adjusted,
when you use runInstaller or OPatch !
Or is one ORACLE_HOME a binary copy of another?
A bianary copied ORACLE_HOME is non patchable at all, as far as I know.
In this case (beside this is not a supported SAP configuration), you need to
apply the patches to your copy-Source and do a re-copy.
There is a meatlink note describing how to use a cloned ORACLE_HOME,
but again: This is not supported within SAP!
Hope this helps

Opatch error with IBM AIX6.1 when upgrade from r12.1.1 to r12.1.2
I'm running E-Business Suite (Oracle Financials AR, AP and GL modules only) r12.1.1 on AIX 6.1. I clean install r12.1.1 from rapidwiz. I'm running one Apps tier and one database tier.
Now I perform the upgrade to r12.1.2, and I plan the route to be:
1. Use opatch to apply Database Preparation Path E for DB 11.1.0.7 (ID: 761570.1)
* 7211965
* 7330434
* 7486407
* 7627743
* 7639602
* 7684818
* 8199107
* 8639653
* 8940108
* 9026927
* 9066130
2. Use AutoPatch to apply R12.AD.B.DELTA.2 Patch 8502056
3. Use AutoPatch to apply Release 12.1.2 Patch 7303033
4. Use AutoPatch to apply post-R12.1.2's Database Preparation Path E: 5880762.
5. Use AutoPatch to apply the latest consolidated online help Patch 7303032
6. Use AutoPatch to apply Workflow Interoperability Patch 8291541
Questions:
1. Do I cover all things needed for upgrading from R12.1.1 to R12.1.2, or I have missed or overdone anything?
2. When I now do the upgrade step 1, which needs to run opatch on Database tier, it says as below:
orapth@HK01SO90003:7211965 > opatch apply

OPatch failed with error code 160
I also experience this when I run:
opatch lsinventory
Please help to solve this problem. Is it also OUI problem? I have tried to upgrade opatch version, and it still cannot solve the problem.
I once tried patch 9216848, it makes the opatch work, but later when I finished installing this patch, I cannot see the forms as it says "magic number problem". Also the adworker always hangs when I do upgrade on R12.1.2 Patch 7303033. So I dun think it is a solution.Hi

BTW, I'd like to ask where's my Database Initialiation File? I find init.ora and init<SID>.ora in $ORACLE_HOME/dbs in DB Tier, but I cannot find the lines -- pgamax_size. Which file I should edit and what things should I add / remove /edit?
pgamax_size is a hidden parameter (why you need to set this one?).
The PGAMAX_SIZE hidden parameter
http://dba-blog.blogspot.com/2005/08/pgamaxsize-hidden-parameter.html
I want to set the Database Initialiation File because in Database Preparation Guidelines (ID: 761570.1), it says that:
1. Before performing any Applications upgrade or maintenance operations, customers must add the following to the database intialization file to disable fast validation for PL/SQL recompilations:
disablefast_validate=TRUE
The line should be commented out during the normal operation of the Applications system.
2. Customers using Oracle iRecruitment on Oracle Database 11gR1 must add the following line to their database initialization file::
event="31151 trace name context forever, level 0x100"
Setting this event provides a fix for the issue reported in bug 6952870.
3. If you encounter the error:
ORA-04030: out of process memory when trying to allocate 822904 bytes (pga heap, kco buffer)
ORA-07445: exception encountered: core dump [dbgtfdFileWrite()+48]
set the pgamax_size initialization parameter to a larger value as follows: pgamax_size=104857600
and restart your database.
I wonder where I can modify these three parameters (which file to edit, and whether it is append / delete / modify values). Or I do not need to do these three points, or even I do not need to go through Database Preparation Guidelines (ID: 761570.1) because my database is 10.3.4 already?
Thanks! -
Opatch Error - Subdirectory or file already exists
I'm trying to apply the JAN 2006 critical patch to a Oracle 9i database server. When patching I get the errror message:
A subdirectory or file -p already exists.
Error occured while processing -p.
OPatch encounters the following issues during file patching:
The following files had problems with being patched:
Then it lists all the files (14 in all) it is trying to copy from the patch directory to the Oracle bin directory.
When it asks me if I want to stop and I reply 'Y' I get the message:
ERROR: OPatch failed during patching, possibly due to missing files.
I am logged in as Administrator on the machine, so I don't think this is a permissions problem.
Also, I have run this patch on other Oracle 9i servers without any problems. It is only this server that is giving me problems.
Any suggestions? Thanks!This error seems like OPatch was trying to create some directory. Btw on what platform your are invoking this and what is the version of OPatch?
My memory says there was some issue with "mkdir -p" on windows and it was fixed in latest OPatch. Please check if you using the latest 1.0.0.0.55. If not, download it from metalink under bug 2617419.
Else raise a bug against OPatch. -
Opatch error 'Unable to parse the xml file'
Hi there,
I am new to installing patches on Oarcle and I need to install patch 12375678 on my windows system, Oracle 11.2.0.2.
I have followed the instructions in the readme.txt file, but got this error and I have not come across anywhere on the web that explain how I could fix it.
Could you please advise?
Thanks

OPatch was able to restore your system. Look at log file and timestamp of each f

OPatch failed with error code = 73your actions.xml must not be able to be read.
open it in notepad yourself to see does it open, if so its not corrupt, if doesnt open download patch again.
More then likely will be fine so try locate the patch in a shorter home path, like c:\patches\12375678 and see does it install from there.
Only other thing I can think of is the main inventory.xml, usually c:\program files\oracle\inventory\inventory.xml
try notepad with that too. -

OPatch error when installing Patch #5059238
System Info: Windows 7 64-bit
DB/Client version: Oracle 10g - 32 bit version
Background: everything works fine with this Oracle installation except when I try to connect to Oracle DB using ADODB connection string I get "Cannot Open Connection" error. Apparently this is due to the fact that the application from which I run the ADODB command is under "C:\Program Files (x86)" and due to the parentheses the error occurs . After some research, I found that patch #5059238 resolves this issue and so I downloaded it and tried to install it using the OPatch utility.
ORACLE_HOME: C:\Oracle\product\10.2.0\client_1
JAVA_HOME: C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jre6
Path: ;C:\oracle\product\10.2.0\client_1;C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jre6;C:\oracle\product\10.2.0\client_1\OPatch\jlib\opatch.jar;C:\oracle\product\10.2.0\client_1\OPatch\jlib\opatchprereq.jar;C:\oracle\product\10.2.0\client_1\OPatch\jlib\opatchutil.jar;C:\oracle\product\10.2.0\client_1\OPatch
Now on running the "opatch apply" or "opatch lsinventory" from C:\5059238 I get the following error :

Yes, I was aware of the incompatibility issue but I downloaded the 11g R2 client for x64 bit and it doesn't install at all. On clicking the setup.exe, it opens a cmd window and then it closes and nothing happens
>
Did you open an SR with Support when you ran into the issue ? Is yours a client-only install ?
>
Also, our DBs are 10g so I am not sure 11g client will let me access 10g DBs.
>
11g client can access 10gR2 databases - see MOS Doc 207303.1 (Client / Server / Interoperability Support Between Different Oracle Versions)

Opatch error when installing patch
Hi,
I just installed 10.2.0 on a HP-UX machine, now i want to apply the latest opatch for 10.2.0.3.
The following error occurs when i try this:
appl/mydb/oracle/product/10.2.0/jre not found
Java could not be located. OPatch cannot proceed!
OPatch returns with error code = 1
Indeed, the /jre dir does not exist.
When i navigate to the patch:
/appl/mydb/oracle/product/10.2.0/OPatch and execute the opatch the same error occurs.
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance,
Charles van den Reek.Hi Maran,
But we have more packages installed on this server, both packages do not have the JRE directorys but opatch is working over there.
Except this package 'mydb' wich also does not contain the JRE directory/installation gives this specific error.......strange.
Regards,
Charles. -
Hello
I've been trying to install opatch utility on Oracle client 10.2.0.3 - Windows 2003 SE x86 platform.
I get from metalink OPatch 10.2.0.3.3 (Patch number 4898608) in install it on my oracle_home.
I get the following error when I run opath utility:
D:\>cd D:\oracle\product\10.2.0\client_1\OPatch

java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: oracle/ops/mgmt/cluster/ClusterException
at oracle.opatch.OPatchSession.<clinit>(OPatchSession.java:170)
at oracle.opatch.OPatch.<clinit>(OPatch.java:133)
OPatch failed with error code = 255
D:\oracle\product\10.2.0\client_1\OPatch>
Can anybody help me to fix this error!
PhilipIt may be because the jar files provided with the opatch utility are not added in PATH variable. add those files in PATH variables.
Also, use -verbose parameter while using opatch command, so you get more information about the error.
Thanks
Gaurav
