Open Hub External System

Hi,
I have a basic requirement to extract data out of Open Hub into an external Oracle database. I have read previous threads online on this topic, but still have a couple of questions that are not clearly answered.
Firstly, my client complies with all licensing arrangements to use Open Hub.They do not want to use flat files and they do not have access to tools like the Microsoft Connector described in many online blogs.
Secondly, my client would like BW to kick off the process chain, load into an internal BW table, and then raise a trigger to the external Oracle database to come and "pull" the data from the newly created table. I am new to working with API's, but I read about standard API's been available to achieve this, but I would like some simple clarrification:
- In my Process Chain, after I load the Open Hub data into the internal table, I want BW to use the API RSB_API_OHS_3RDPARTY_NOTIFY to tell the external system it's ready to pull the data. Reading the docu about this API, it seems like this needs to be initated from the external Oracle database. Is this correct (I would hope BW could do this) ? And if so, I dont know if my client has these API's on their Oracle system. How do I ensure they do ? I imagine they are freely available, but since I am not a DBA, and do not have access to someone who can tell me or not, I would like to know what the standard procedure for API communication is here. An example or white paper showing the API (with parameters) for a real life scenario would be ideal.
- If the above does not work, even though they say the Microsoft connector tool can be used for Oracle, I am hesitant to use a Microsoft tool, when surely Oracle has their own free tool to do this - or can the Microsoft Connector integrate directly with an Oracle database ??????
- When we refer to the term "Third Party Tool", does this mean a ETL tool like Informatica, or a connection tool like the Microsoft Connector, or the external database like the Oracle database in this example ?
Any clarrification with the above would be most appreciated. I do not have access to a BW system yet, so I would like to know some of the details before I propose a potential solution.
Thanks,
BWPerson

  • Modifying destination Directory of Application server for Open Hub

    Hi All,
i want to load a csv file on application server using Open Hub.
when i have created the open hub i have specified the server name, the file name and the directory.
but the Basis guys told me that i should use another directory, they have created me a Unix Directory but the problem that i can't modify the directory path in my open hub.
can you tell me please what is the problem?
another question why i can't modify directly in Production System this parameter of server name, directory for open hub,
in production i can create the open hub but when i have transported some one from dev to prod i can't modify in prod, i have controlled from transport tool the possibility of modication object and i see that for opne hub is "original modificable"
    Thanks for your help
    Bilal

i have read in some forum that to " to change the server name or logical file name we can do so in the following table:
    RSBFILE"
i tried to see the data of this table and i found 2 records for my open hub, 1 for Active version and 1 for Modified version
i tried here to change the path name of the directory and after saving the system give me the message that the active version and the modified version of my open hub are not equal, when i try to activate again my open hub the system take the old
    directory path.
is this is the right table to change the directory path on application server of my open hub? or there is another table?
i don't work with logical filename, i work with file name and directory path name.
    thanks for your help

  • How to activate Open Hub in closed system

    Hello friends
Do you know any ABAP Program, Function Module or any other way to activate Open Hub Destination in closed system (i.e. QA)?
    Cheers,
    A.

    Hi,
I suggest to change the object changeability in the Data Warehousing Workbench.
    T/code RSA1
Go to the Transport Connection perspective
Then click on push button Object Changeability
Here you can find object type DEST (Open Hub Destination). Please change the setting by right clicking, choose Switch Changeability.
Now you will be able to activate the Open Hub Destination w/o having to open the system.
Please refer also to SAP Note 337950 - Queries (including objects) cannot be edited.
    Best regards,

    Hello,
Kindly tell me In BI data modeling workbench ,in modeling there is are two areas name as "Source system" and "Open Hub destination".What is mean by this???How we use it in BI?

    Hi,
Source system as the name suggests mentions the source of data. The place from where you are extractin data to BW.

  • Read/Open a file in SAP DMS from an external system

    Hello Sap Gurus,
I want to read/open a file in SAP DMS from an external system . External system is basically a non-sap system.
Can this be achieved through an RFC..
Does anyone know of any BAPI's/FM's that can be called from an external system (non-sap system) through RFC which will open a document which is stored in SAP DMS.
    Regards,
    Madan Shetty.

    Hi Madan,
If you want to view documents from an external system, there are many ways of achieving this.
It depends on the solution that you are approaching.
Few methods that I have come across are, OData services, Custom RFC Function  Modules, to retrieve document attachments.
FTP is also a possible solution.
Please let us know your exact requirement.

  • I am running 10.8 and setup airport extreme to run music from my imac to my receiver in the other room. When I open sound from system preferences, I don't see an external device to choose, other then internal speakers. Any ideas?

Airport Express (the small Airport device, which is the only one with an audio connection) works through Airtunes, which only works with iTunes. The computer won't send ALL system sound to the Airport. If you actually want to send sound outside of iTunes, use Airfoil.

  • Open hub service - Cube as source system

    Dear gurus,
i am new to open hub concept.
i need to transfer values from my query to a custom table in R/3.
    im using bi7.
    Questions:
    1) i guess pen hub is my solution. is it correct?
    2) do i have to transfer values from my cube or can i send values from my query too?
    3) i have created openhub service under modelling tab, i have selected target type as TAB. it says database table /BIC/OHZTABLO.
    is it correct?
    4) then i am trying to create Transformation from open hub ZTABLO to/ BIC/OHZTABLO. ?
in that case it shows that transformation target is DEST- ZTABLO? i mean open hub service is my destination? then what is the source?i am confused in that point.
    5) Thanks all!

    1) i guess pen hub is my solution. is it correct?
->If u want to transfer dat from yr query then APD (analysis Process designer) will be the best bet to go for. Create APD and schedule it in process chain
    2) do i have to transfer values from my cube or can i send values from my query too?
->Using OH(open hub) you have to use Cube as a source,,,you cant use query then.
    3) i have created openhub service under modelling tab, i have selected target type as TAB. it says database table /BIC/OHZTABLO.
->ya,correct,there are two ways to do that,,,either u send the cube data to a open hub table(as its happening in yr case) or send it to application server/flat file
    is it correct?
    --> yes
    4) then i am trying to create Transformation from open hub ZTABLO to/ BIC/OHZTABLO. ?
in that case it shows that transformation target is DEST- ZTABLO? i mean open hub service is my destination? then what is the source?i am confused in that point.
---> yr source is InfoCube and target is Open hub table /BIC/OHZTABLO
    5) Thanks all!
    Than you.

  • Open hub services

    hello Friends,
Can you please tell me what is the use of open hub service ?
As i believe that it is sending a data to flat file ? BUT even though we can also directly send a data through export datasource.
i just want to know is there any additional advantages for open hub.?
    Thanks in advance

    Hi,
The open hub service enables to distribute data from an SAP BW system into external data marts, analytical applications, and other Non-SAP applications. With this, you can ensure controlled distribution using several systems. The central object for the export of data is the “InfoSpoke” (SAP BW term). Using this, one can define the object from which the data comes and into which target it is transferred.
Through the open hub service, SAP BW becomes a hub of an enterprise data warehouse. The distribution of data becomes clear through central monitoring from the distribution status in the BW system.

I have been told that it can be done using Control M. But, Im naive to this topic.
Can anyone help me out please.

  • External System accessing BI DB

    Hi,
We are on BI 7.0 and we have a requirement for an external non SAP system to access the BI  DB to fetch data out of an ODS. I have read about the Open Hub Services of BI, but it doesnt really explain how an External System can open a ODBC connection to access the BI DB. Any suggestions would be helpful....

I can't offer a lot of deep insite, but in order to open data for ODBC access, you need to build a query on top of the object and release it for ODBO (third tab in the query property window).  Then, the ODBC connection should be able to view the query.
Another thing to note, reading data from SAP into another non-SAP system has some license impacts.  You will want to verify with your account manager that you are able to legally do this.

  • Extracting data to an external system

    Hi,
We need to extract data from an R/3 system into a BW system and the same data (and more) should also be uploaded into a customer application (based on Oracle).
I wonder what's the best in order to load data into this external system:
    1. Read data from the R/3 system, using RFCs (calling the function modules of the corresponding datasources, don't know if this is possible)
    2. Use the open hub service functionality, in order to read the data from the BW system.
Any comments or suggestions would be appreciated.
    Thank you,
    Ana

    Hi Ana,
Could you elaborate more on what kind of data you are willing to pull from R/3 using which method. first check wheter you can use standard extractor to pull the data into BW. Check what is the method you are going to follow in order to pull data , Delta or Full update (If just one time). If standard extractor are present try to use that than Generic method.
Infospoke supports distribution of data to Flatfile and Database and check if you need to do any transformation when you extract the data from BW to external Database.
Experts feel free to comment if my understanding is not correct.
    hope it helps.
    Thanks.

  • Data Extraction in Open Hub Destination using Process Chain

    Hi
I want to extract data in Open Hub Destination (database table)from Data Store Object(ODS) through Process Chain.
When i tried to create process chain, i found only one option under Process types - Data export into External System. Here it asks for Infospoke instead of Open Hub Destination.

Michael is correct and below is the rationale...
    <a href="http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw2004s/helpdata/en/43/58e1cdbed430d9e10000000a11466f/content.htm">http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw2004s/helpdata/en/43/58e1cdbed430d9e10000000a11466f/content.htm</a>
    <b>Integration</b>
You can use the data transfer process to update data to the open hub destination. The data is transformed in this process. Not all rules types are available in the transformation for an open hub destination: Formulas, reading master data, time conversion, currency translation and unit conversion are not available.
    Hope it Helps
