Open Images on second monitor by default

Though there are already quite a few threads on this issue
(e.g. here: http://forums.adobe.com/message/1648230#1648230; here: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/369630?start=60&tstart=0 ; and here: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/369928?start=15&tstart=0  );
the behaviour of Photoshop CS4 to always open images on the main monitor by default still wasn't changed with the 11.0.1-Update.
So my request is to simply reinvent the old behaviour all PS-Versions from (at least) PS 3.0 to CS3 had:
open images by default on the monitor THE USER has decided to use as his/her PS-monitor (and not automatically on the System main monitor).

Has this been fixed on Photoshop CS5?
I'll be sticking with CS3 until we get back what used to be default...
(bought CS4 Photoshop upgrade when it came out, went back to using CS3 after a while)

  • Open on second monitor by default

    Hello!
I'd like to know if it's possible to force Photoshop to open pictures on the second monitor by default.
Actually, I have 2 monitors, 1 for tools, 1 for fullscreen picture view.
On the "tools" monitor, toolboxes takes all the screen and pictures opens behind these toolboxes.
I ALWAYS move pictures fullscreen on the second monitor so I'd like to open them like this by default, but I don't find how...
    (I'm currently on CS3 and trying CS4)
    Thanks !

    Hi
Same problem here with Ps CS4 :(
I also dual monitors, one for palettes and one for image viewing.
The one with the palettes also has the menubar (I'm on a Mac), so programs seem to think it as the main monitor, but for me the absolute free pixel height of the image monitor is paramount.
This is a step backwards for Photoshop the same thing happened a few versions ago to InDesign.
Illustrator CS3 is able to open windows to the same location where they were when closed InDy CS3 is not.
Both of then open new & previously un-opened (ones gotten from an another machine) under the menubar (id est, the wrong monitor for me)
Photoshop was in the previous versions able to open even the new (blank) documents on the "image" monitor no longer :( :(
Hope that the programmers will look into this, and include a fix into the updates...

  • How open Adobe Reader 9 in second monitor by default?

How can I make Adobe Reader 9.0 open always in my second monitor?
With version 8 it was at least possible to open the first document on the second monitor if I had moved the window in an previous session to that monitor and closed it there. The second and following documents always were opened in the first monitor (annoying!).
What I want is, that ALL documents always open in the second monitor. How can I manage this?

I am also having this issue.
First PDF opens on second monitor. Second one I open will open on main laptop monitor and 3,4,5 etc the same.
Would like it to default full screen on second monitor for all PDF's.

  • Full screen playback on second monitor results in having to force quit Premier if a window opens on the second monitor.

Run into this problem a few times now. If I have full screen playback going to my second monitor, and then I try to do something like link media and the link media window opens on that second monitor I can't figure out a way to get to it. I end up having to force quit. Because the link media window causes all other application buttons to disable while it is open I have not been able to find a solution other than force quitting, reopen and disable full screen playback, open link media window and move it to the other monitor and then again enable full screen playback.
Has anyone run into this? Am I missing an easy solution?

You need to set up your Graphics Card Application first eg A and B Monitors , side by side etc.
In my case..a  NVidea Display Application does this from the Control Panel
Then the second monitor will appear in display setting (Premiere).
My second monitor is entirely dedicated to full screen playback display.

  • Opening images on dual monitors

In CS3, my images open on one monitor and the workspace on the other. In CS4, this was broken and I wasn't able to use it after paying all that money to upgrade (have to dig down under toolbar and windows to get to image to drag it to the second monitor). I paid more to upgrade to CS5 because the dual monitor problem was supposed to be fixed. However, the first image I open is buried under everythign in the workspace. Once I drag it over to the color-corrected monitor, second and subsequent images open correctly on the second monitor. Is there some trick to getting the first image to open on the correct monitor? I tried with OpenGL turned on and off and have saved several workspaces and nothing seems to work. Yet some people say they have gotten it to work. Any hints, tricks, or magical incantations? Thanks

I usually set my desktop background to my own astroimages.  What are your extended desktop dimensions?  I'll be happy to post an astroimage for you to use.
With Windows 7, if you "Tile" your desktop image, and you have an image of sufficient size, it will not repeat on each monitor, but instead it will span all of them.
In my case I prefer also to be able to see my desktop icons, which I have arranged along the top and bottom of the monitor on which I open the Photoshop main window.  I posted a snapshot of my entire desktop in this thread:  http://forums.adobe.com/message/2871339?tstart=0#2871339
By the way, if you'll notice in that other thread, some are claiming the exact feature you're looking for is supposedly fixed in CS5.  I don't know about that, but maybe there really is a way to get it to work in your preferred manner.

  • On a Mac with two monitors, how do I get a new FF window to open on the second monitor? I can do this on a Windows XP box easily enough but on a Mac FF won't remember the position of a new window. Please help!

I proof websites for a living and workflow is everything. On my 26" main monitor I have FF running the job tracking web site. In this site, there are links to the sites I need to proof. I would like to be able to right click on a URL and select 'open in new window' and have that window open up on my second monitor.

Here's some more info about the router settings:
iOS: Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points
You should be able to get into the setup of your router by typing the IP address into your browser.
Depending on your router security setup, you might need the MAC address of your iPad, to allow access to your network, if the so called MAC filtering is active.
You can also check the name of your home network if your click on the AirPort icon on your desktop of your MacBook.
And here's a Wi-Fi assistant to get you going: http://www.apple.com/support/ipad/assistant/wifi/

  • Open image on 2nd monitor

In CS4 can't figure out how to open an image on 2nd monitor. Have to go under my workspace on the pallet's monitor and drag it over.
    Any help would be appreciated.

I use my Apple Cinema Display as my primary monitor. I do use the application frame though do not HAVE to. But I then have used all the pallets that I can open and have dragged them onto my laptop. So I can then use the F key to go to full screen on my ACD and still use the tab key to see all the pallets but can keep them on the laptop screen and use anytime during editing. This is the only way I can figure out how to have a full screen image and the tools on the other scree, the laptop.
I then use the F key only to go to a toolbar that may have some options needed. Like changing sponge from saturate to desaturate.
This seems to work the best. I then saved this desktop arrangement as Dual Monitor and can go to Essential or anything else when needed.
    Hope that helps...

  • Automatically open AI on second monitor

I have this working in PS, but not AI.  I opened up PS and dragged it onto my second monitor.  Using a Wacom Cintiq.  Now every time I open PS, it just automatically opens on the tablet.  I've tried to do this with AI.  It doesn't appear to work.  Is it just me, or is there a way to make this happen?
Also, working with latest version of AI on Mac with Yosemite.
    Thanks in advance!

in the displays 'arrangement' part of system preferences you can define which monitor shows the menu (drag it in the little window to change it). this is a system wide setting so every app will have its menu on that window. it's not possible to have different apps with menus on different screens.
a solution is to learn all the key commands so you don't have refer to the meno often.

  • How do I get InDesign to open on the second monitor of a two-monitor system?

My computer is connected to two identical monitors. I use them in extended mode. Monitor 1 includes my WIndows desktop; Monitor 2 does not
I want to open my InDesign files on "Monitor 2" which does NOT have impediments like a taskbar that wants to pop up.
By default, InDesign CS6 opens on Monitor 1, the one with the desktop. How do I change that setting?

Exactly what Bob Levine said. Can confirm, running a two monitor display here.

  • Program/Applications open on phantom second monitor

I used to have a second display connected to the iMac. After upgrading to Lion, I disconnected it as it does not really work in the full screen display with Lion. However, some of my programs that were on the second display still think its on that second display. Despite the fact that there is no second screen attached or configured in Displays control panel.
It is annoying because a program will be open, however, I cannot find the program (other than seeing the menu bar on the top). When I click in the Dock, under OPtions, and show program or move to this screen, then I see it (or when I go to Expose), but I can never drag it permanently to see it on the main screen.
    Help!
    Jonathan

After many days i found solution:
Run the client and get it set up the way you prefer, or Open your saved RDP file
On the Display tab, choose a non-fullscreen resolution.
On the General tab, click "delete these credentials", if possible.
    Click Connect .
You will immediately get a local login dialog. Leave it blank and click
    OK .
When you are connected and the remote login dialog appears, drag the window to the desired monitor.
On the remote login dialog, click Cancel . The settings dialog should reappear locally.
On the Display tab, you can now choose fullscreen.
You can now save your session with the Save button on the
General tab, as well as save your login credentials.
Try more times ,worked for me.

  • IMac detecting second display, but no image on second monitor

I'm trying to use a Philps HDTV as a secondary monitor for my new 21.5 inch iMac.  I'm using a MiniDisplay to HDMI cable, and the iMac detects the TV just fine, but there is no picture sent to the TV.  I hooked up a MacBook to the same TV with the same cable, and it worked perfectly.  I've also hooked up the iMac with the same cable to a different HDTV, and it also worked perfectly.  I've run all available software updates, which has not resolved the issue.  I've also toggled between all the different display resolutions in System Prefs to see if that would make a difference.  I feel like I'm out of ideas on how to resolve this issue.
If anyone has run into this issue or has any other troubleshooting tips that I'm not thinking of, that would be amazing.
    Thanks!

    Hi Guys,
Checked the mini display with Dell flat monitor and Samsung LCD tv , works perfect. The VGA port of my old monitor is not in good condition.

  • When Skype is open on my second monitor, my .swf runs slowly (30-45 fps).

But when it is minimized or on my first monitor, my .swf runs fine. I'm using Flash Player 11.5.31.137. Upon further investigation in Stencyl it seems every 4 frames something called "Waiting For GPU" spikes up WAY past my limit of 16ms. I am not using Stage3D, either.

    Pancenter...
Yes... but I have come across some setups that came with a native SL (and even one Lion!) installation.. that somehow had a corrupted or older Prokit installed for some unknown reason... and given it's a quick fix to try.. I thought I'd mention it..
I frankly don't think it is entirely a Prokit issue itself, but it wouldn't do any harm to try and install v7 just in case it is part of the problem...
    +1 on the UAD stuff....
Also, at the time it crashed... according to the logs...the OP was running Ableton Live at the same time, presumably rewired with Logic... so add all that together with UAD plugins... and that's quite a load on the system...
Finally in thread 32 there is a weird exception msg relating to the Trash2 plugin.. that I haven't seen before...
    Thread 32:

That might be nothing... but as i said, I haven't seen that one before and given what else is going on.. it might be involved too... or nothing to do with that at all!

  • All dialogs open in second monitor

I recently installed a second monitor to my Toshiba laptop and I am using the extended desktop using the built-in NVIDIA video card. Because of performance problems not related to the second monitor, I had to reformat my internal hard disk.
After reinstalling LabVIEW 8.0.1 Development  Suite on an external drive, I found that  all the dialogs (those in LabVIEW, in my apps both compiled or run under labVIEW) opened on my second monitor. I checked the VI properties to make sure that the run-time window position was not set to the second monitor and I checked the NVIDIA video card settings to make sure that the dialogs were not set for the second monitor. I have no problem with any other applications such as Quicken.
I then uninstalled LabVIEW and reinstalled on my internal hard disk. The dialogs still open in the second monitor. Does anyone know how to fox this?

Is your front panel on monitor 1 (the one that you want the dialog to open on) or is it on monitor 2??  It seems that if you are using the default LabVIEW dialogs (in Dialog & User interface) it will open centered on your front panel.
If you create your own custom dialog box, go into the Run-Time position and under the Position drop down box select "custom" and it will automatically set it to the current position.  (make sure that you have it on your first monitor already)

  • All my Adobe Reader (PDF) files are opening only in the secondary monitor by default, as I am workin

I am using Adobe 8 Professional and working on Windows XP. I have been facing an issue lately with opening files in a dual-monitor environment. All my Adobe Reader (PDF) files are opening only in the secondary monitor by default. There are times when I work only in one monitor and when I open a PDF file and want to have a look at it, I have to connect another monitor to view that file, since this file is open in the secondary monitor. It is very disappointing with such instances happening with Adobe (a leading organization). Can you please help so that the Adobe Reader files open in the primary monitor by default?

  • How do I set Firefox to open new windows in my second monitor?

When opening a new window (by right clicking a link and selecting Open in New Window), I would like the window to be opened in my second monitor. Firefox used to do this, but randomly stopped. Now when I open a new window it is opened in my primary monitor. It does not open maximized (just short of being completely maximized). I have tried the fix I used before- moving the un-maximized browser to the second window, closing and re-opening the window. I have also tried moving the un-maximized browser, maximizing, closing and re-opening. Does anyone know how I can restore Firefox to open my new window in the second monitor?
    == This happened ==
    Every time Firefox opened
    == Randomly

Click the orange Firefox button, and click "Options". This will bring up a new window with a "Tabs" tab at the top. Click that. There will be several checked boxes, including one called "Open new windows in a new tab instead" up at the top of the list. Uncheck that box and you should be good to go.
ETA: This should also work if you click "Tools" and "Options" within your version.
