Open itunes to populate this list in iPhoto

IOS 10.10 yosemite
Iphoto 9.5.1
iTunes 12.0.1.26
My problem is when i open my iPhoto and pick the song for my slide show, it show "open iTunes to populate this list" on the iTunes selection.
I have tried deleting the iTunes library xml file and creating a new playlist to create back a new library file but i still can't link my iTunes library file to my iPhoto.
I have no problem at all before i upgrade my mac to yosemite.
Please help!

I have this exact same problem! Did you resolve it at all? I did not have this problem before the Yosemite upgrade.

I am having a problem when I try to select a photo or itunes song in Imovie or other programs. I get a window with grey lettering that says: "Open Itunes to populate this list" or "Open iphoto to see photos from your iPhoto library in this list.  I have tried relaunching programs and nothing appears. Seemed to start happening a while back after one of my system upgrades.

After a a lengthy conversation with Apple Tech. ($20), my problem seems to be solves. The Iphoto problem solved by trashing the plist file. The Itunes was more involved. We had to create a new Itunes folder and import the files into the new folder; and then import the playlists.

  • IMovie says "Open iTunes to populate this list."

When I try to add a photo or song to my iMovie project, the program says "Open iTunes to populate this list." (In the photo section, it says "Open iPhoto...") Opening either program doesn't change anything.
I've reinstalled Lion and iTunes to no avail. I have also moved the "iTunes Music Library.xml" file to the desktop, and although iTunes creates a new file, the problem persists.
I get the same messages for iTune and iPhoto in other programs, including Mail and Garageband. The problem seemed to pop up when I was connecting my iPhone to the computer to send an iMovie iOS project to iTunes.
    Please help.

Hi, I have this same issue. I'm not so sure how to remove the preference file from my media browser though. I don't even know what the media browser is. Any help would be very appreciated. I can't access my iTunes data from iMovie or Keynote.....likely other iLife and iWork programs as well.

  • Open iTunes to populate this list.

Hi, when I attempt to add sound FX or Music etc in iMovie (or Keynote) I get a message that says "Open iTunes to populate this list" Unfortunately opening iTunes doesn't help. I can't access my music with iTunes or Keynote etc. Any help would be very appreciated.
I have heard that deleting a prefernce file in the Media Borwser can solve this but I'm not sure how to find it.

Thanks for your help. I'm not sure why but my Library folder is off my HD. Its not off my username folder. Even in my Library folder those files indicated in the support page weren't there. I may have deleted them earlier today when I deleted several preference files. Such a hassle. I have already reformatted and reinstalled as well....I was amazed that it did nothing.

  • My imovie keeps saying "open itunes to populate this list" but itunes is opened. How do I get my itunes back on imovie?

I have restarted my computer a bunch of times. I've opened itunes first then imovie but it just says it's loading itunes...but it continuously does that and doesn't load any songs from itunes. It's the first time this has happened and it's ******* me off.

  • ITunes missing from Media Browser -- "open itunes to populate list"

I am on a MacBook Pro 10.7.3 running GarageBand '11 6.0.4 and all of the sudden no tracks will display under Audio in the Media Browser (Photos and Movies still appear). No tracks from either iTunes or GB show up. This is confusing as I have been using GB to make podcast/music mixes for more than 5 years and I haven't changed any settings or done anything different, but now I get the message "open itunes to populate list" or "To see GB songs here, open GB to edit and save your music."
Also, for quite some time I have been unable to go the alternative route of dragging tracks directly from iTunes and dropping them on to the timeline in GB -- that used to work, but mysteriously stopped, so I am dependent on the Media Browser for importing music.
I read thru the forums and tried the advice given to someone this was happening to in Final Cut -- recreating iTunes .xml file. Did that, still no tracks display.
Other advice says to reinstall GB or iLife altogether -- I hope to avoid this, but if I need to go this route, how do I reinstall GB w/o a disk? Can I do it through App Store and will it recognize that I have already purchased it?
I am dying to be able to get back in to my music mix making in GB, so thanks in advance.

you can't, you'd need to find the DVD

no, it'll only recognize your purchase if it was through the app store

  • Launch iphoto 2 or later to populate this list.

I don't know why all of the sudden my Idvd and imovie cannot see
the photos I've brought into iphoto.
This has always worked for me until today.
When I click on media and then on photos
    it says this:
Launch iphoto 2 or later to populate this list.
I have the latest versions of all the programs
    Thank you,
    Carrie

Try deleting the iMovie preference file, com.apple.iMovie.plist, and the iDVD preference file, com.apple.iDVD.plist. Then relaunch and see if they will recognize your library.

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down page in case one of them applies.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.

Is this library one that you've been using since you bought the MBP?  If so and you're running iPhoto 9 then apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Since only one option can be run at a time start with
Option #3, followed by #4 and then #1 as needed.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 - download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 - click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option.
4 - In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments.  However, books, calendars, cards and slideshows will be lost. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • "Launch iPhoto2 or later to populate this list"

When I'm in iLife applications, my photos are not available in the Media Browser. Instead, it simply says: "Launch iPhoto2 or later to populate this list." I have tried the two support articles that are currently listed on the Apple site and nothing has changed. I am a new Mac used and could really use the help!

In iPhoto, go to Preferences, Keywords.
Change the match option from "all" to "any".
Just below that, delete all keywords except for the default iPhoto keywords: favorite, family, kids, vacation, birthday. You can actually delete those too if you like.
Launch an iLife application, and you should be able to see all your pictures again in the media browser.
For some reason, iPhoto 6 imports keywords previously assigned to a picture, most likely generated by another program/person. It's a nice feature, but it seems to crash the pictures pane in the iLife applications media browser.
    Hope this helped

  • I had a new hard drive fitted to my imac and restored it from my time machine back when I try to open itunes I get this message "the itunes library extras.itdb file is locked, on a locked disk, or you do not have write permission for this file"

I had a new hard drive fitted to my imac and restored it from my time machine back up on an external hard drive when I try to open itunes I get this message "the itunes library extras.itdb file is locked, on a locked disk, or you do not have write permission for this file"

To solve this issue all I did was check to ensure that the file permissions were set as described by the earlier posts, followed by simply deleting the iTunes Library Genius.itdb file.  Once the file was deleted I was able to open iTunes without difficulty.  Note that I am running Windows 8.  Hope this helps!

  • When I try to open iTunes, I get this error message: Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item. I get a different error message if I try to uninstall it.

When I try to open iTunes, I get this error message: "Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item." I've been able to uninstall all Apple products except iTunes as I get this error message: "The Installer has insufficent privileges to modify this file: C:\Program Files\i Tunes\Acknowledgments.rtf." I've had the iTunes on my laptop for a year and a half with no problems until now.

    Any suggestions please?
