Open local PDF inside Air iOS app

I am developing an AIR for iOS app for the iPad. My client would like the app to open a local PDF file within the app, rather than launching an external app (such as Adobe Reader). This is to give a seamless experience when using the app. I've seen that distriqt.com produce the 'PDF Reader' Native Extension based on www.vfr.org. VFR appears to have a series of interface controls that open along with the PDF, which I don't require. I emailed Distriqt a week ago to clarify, and have had no response.
Does anyone know of any other solutions to open a PDF inside an AIR iOS app?

I've managed to load a PDF successfully inside my AIR iOS app, using the code from http://thatsthaway.wordpress.com/201...1/#comment-102.
However, I've just come across a weird feature / bug when viewing a PDF using stagewebview. I have a PDF that contains several internal hyperlinks, each navigating to a page within the same PDF document. If I select any of the hyperlinks, they do jump to the intended pages. However, if I reselect the same hyperlink again, it no longer works. If I select a different hyperlink, and then reselect a previous link, it will then work, but if I select the same hyperlink twice in a row, without selecting a different hyperlink in between, the link fails to work. The PDF hyperlinks all work ok outside of my app, on both Windows desktop and an iPad, just not inside of the AIR app.
Any ideas?

  • PDF generated in iOS app opens iOS adobe but is blank in Windows and Mac adobe

    I generated a PDF in an iOS app called iThoughts and I am able to export directly to iOS Adobe, or e-mail the PDF.  When I export directly to Adobe the PDF opens fine in the Adobe iOS app, when I try to open the PDF on a windows machine or Mac machine the page is blank, all white.  When I click the preview on Gmail I see the PDF fine.  When I open the PDF in my mac preview desktop app it works fine.  I did try to save from export from preview and this did not work, same results.  When I open the PDF in iOS from the email it works fine also. The iThoughts generated PDF mind-map in this instance is very large.  When I generated a branch of the map it works fine.  If the map is smaller it works fine.  This is a single page PDF.  When I had notes on the same mind map the PDF was two pages and the only thing visible was page 2 with the notes on it, not map.  I am going to send the developer of the iThoughts app an e-mail but I thought this would be a better place since I can open the PDF in my iOS app but not on a desktop program.  I have done this with iOS 6 and now with iOS 7 with the same results.

    Thank you very much.  Is this the case for Adobe pro also? I am using Adobe Pro at work and it doesn't work either.
    Are there any work arounds to be able to view / print / open in Adobe pro to be able to use the search funciton?  That was my point of creating one map so we can search one page with all the settings as listed on the attached PDF.  I am glad, but seems odd I can view and search this document on my iPad iOS version of Adobe reader.  Thank you for this option at least.  I guess this will push getting more iPads at work, LOL.
    Thanks again for your time and I hope to hear of some work around to be able to search this larget page PDF besides cutting it into 2 pages.

  • How Do I Open a PDF attachment in IOS 8 mail app?

    Hi all,
    I am curious how do I open a pdf attachment in IOS 8 mail app?

    Hi,
    My friend has what you stated = a square with and arrow coming out the top and works as expected
    BUT I don't
    what happens to me - is the small muti page opens and does NOT show a pdf ICON - BUT DOES show only the first page and I DO NOT GET = a square with and arrow coming out the top TO CLICK ON!
    So it seems the normal behavior is not happening - how can I fix this - to see ALL pages and or open pdf in another pdf app?

  • Is anybody else having their Adobe AIR iOS app crash within the first second of opening it?

    Is anybody else having their Adobe AIR iOS app crash within the first second of opening it?
    I am using iPhone 6, iOS 8.1.3, with a development certificate.
    With Adobe AIR SDK 16.0.0.283 and now with 17.0.0.93, after compiling the app (whether in release mode or debug mode), before the app getTimer() can ever reach 999 milliseconds the app will crash. No matter what code I have, it is just crashing before the runtime can ever reach the first second.
    Anybody else having this kind of behavior?

    Chris,
    Thanks for your prompt reply. I have found the way to reproduce. It is about interfaces, and when I try to call a method through an interface the app crashes. I think that it is related to having an interface with many parameters. I have logged the bug here:

  • Sending Tweets via Adobe AIR iOS Apps

    Heya everyone.
    Is there a way that I can implement a tweet function into an AIR iOS app? I'm currently developing it in Flash Professional Actionscript 3. I understand that there's a method of doing it in Flex, but I have no knowledge in that area.
    Thanks .

    hey kglad, thanks for your help. things are a little clearer now.
    I had a look at the REST API Resources, and dug out the "POST statuses/update_with_media" which requires authentication. So I shall proceed with using tweetr's oAuth class.
    I've chosen to make the authentication a PINless one, since I'm currently dealin with an iPhone app, and I do not wish to disturb the user with a browser opening up everytime whenever an authentication is needed.
    I had a look through tweetr's pinless authentication tutorial and found this piece of code:
    oauth = new OAuth();
    oauth.consumerKey = "YOUR_CONSUMER_KEY";
    oauth.consumerSecret = "YOUR_CONSUMER_SECRET";
    oauth.callbackURL = "http://your.callback.url";
    oauth.pinlessAuth = true;
    oauth.addEventListener(OAuthEvent.COMPLETE, handleOAuthEvent);
    oauth.addEventListener(OAuthEvent.ERROR, handleOAuthEvent);
    var rect:Rectangle = new Rectangle(50,50, 780, 500);
    htmlLoader = HTMLLoader.createRootWindow(true, null, true, rect);
    oauth.htmlLoader = htmlLoader;
    oauth.getAuthorizationRequest();
    I'm guessing the above code goes into the constructor? Or into a private function itself where it'll be called when a button is pressed or something.
    Another question is, what is a request URL? It seems like the default address (according to my application details in dev.twitter.com) is http://api.twitter.com/1/. But that doesn't seem right at all.
    Cheers

  • 2 Problems - Can't open a PDF inside IE 8, can't open a link in a PDF

    I am running Vista Business on a Lenovo ThinkCentre with dual core Intel processor, 2 GB RAM. I have 2 problems with Reader 9.3.0.
    First it will not open a PDF inside IE 8. Instead it opens the PDF in a new Reader window. It does open a PDF inside Firefox. In Edit|Preferences|Internet the Display PDF in browser checkbox is checked. In IE 8 Tools|Manage Add-ons|Run without permission Adobe PDF Reader is Enabled.
    The second problem is that I cannot open a link in a PDF file. When I place the cursor over an e-mail or internet link in a PDF file the little hand appears. However when I click on the link nothing at all happens.
    Does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix either of these problems?
    Ira B.

    In the replies I have been receiving, nobody has said which problem of the
    two I wrote about they are experiencing. I assume that all are using Vista
    (I use Vista business) since neither of these problems appear on my machine
    that runs XP Pro.
    I have managed to get around these problems and am happy to share my
    experiences with all, but I advise not getting too excited since my solution
    may not be exactly what others might want. Of the two problems, the one
    where I was unable to open an e-mail or web link in Acrobat Reader was the
    more serious for me. I edit a couple of newsletters that almost always
    contain some of these links and I need to be able to test them to make sure
    they are correct before I send out a newsletter.
    I found out that if I used Foxit Reader in place of Acrobat Reader I was
    able to open all links with no problems. For a while I had both readers
    installed with both able to open PDFs in IE8 but only Foxit able to open
    links in a PDF file. Then Foxit Reader began to exhibit the problem of PDFs
    not opening in an IE8 browser window. Then the problem spread to Acrobat
    reader. I have no idea as to the cause.
    I tried removing and re-installing both Readers but was unable to rid myself
    of the problem. I then contacted Foxit support for some assistance. Yes,
    unlike Adobe, they actually try to help if you are having a problem with
    Foxit Reader. Foxit support gave me a procedure to try but it did not work
    at first. I finally found out that I had to install Foxit Reader with User
    Access Control (UAC) shut off in Vista. If UAC was not shut off, Foxit's
    addin for IE8 would not install properly. Then I re-enabled UAC and followed
    the procedure Foxit support suggested which is:
    1. Login your machine with admin account, right click on > FoxitReader.exe
    2. Select "Properties"
    3. Select "Compatibility" tab
    4. Uncheck "Run this program as an administrator" under "Privilege Level"
    5. Select "Show settings for all users"
    6. Click on "Continue" if there is a prompt.
    7. Uncheck "Run this program as an administrator" under "Privilege Level".
    (This was already unchecked in my case.)
    After this Foxit Reader opened PDF files in browser windows in both IE8 and
    Firefox.
    I think that this procedure might work for Acrobat Reader; at least I think
    it might be worth a try. I don't want to try it myself because my computer
    is working just fine right now with Foxit Reader and I don't want to take
    the chance of screwing it up since it was so difficult for me to get to this
    point.
    If someone would like to try it, I suggest removing Acrobat Reader, then
    disabling UAC and re-installing Acrobat Reader. Then enable UAC again. Then
    follow the 7 steps above for AcroRd32.exe. I am hopeful, but by no means
    certain, that then PDF files will open in an IE8 browser window. I would
    appreciate it that, if anyone tries this, they would let me know their
    results. I regret not being able to provide a more definitive solution.

  • Opening a PDF inside Flash compile errors

    I'm trying to open a pdf inside flash.  I followed a tutorial online but I'm have issues with the compiler.  Here's my code:
    import flash.html.HTMLLoader;
    import flash.html.HTMLPDFCapability;
    import flash.html.HTMLWindowCreateOptions;
    if( HTMLLoader.pdfCapability == HTMLPDFCapability.STATUS_OK )
        var htmlLoader:HTMLLoader = new HTMLLoader();
        var url:URLRequest = new URLRequest( "01_Advanta2_Master.pdf" );
        htmlLoader.width = 800;
        htmlLoader.height = 600;
        htmlLoader.load( url );
    var pdfHolder:UIComponent = new UIComponent();
    pdfHolder.addChild (htmlLoader);
        addChild (pdfHolder);
    It results in these errors:
    1046: Type was not found or was not a compile-time constant: UIComponent.
    1180: Call to a possibly undefined method UIComponent.
    I've tried to import fl.core.UIComponents in the beginning but that resulted in this error:
    1172: Definition fl.core:UIComponent could not be found.
    Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    You need to have components in the library in order for them to be accessible.

  • Reduce publishing time for Air iOS apps?

    Hi,
    Currently it's taking my machine up to  4 minutes to publish an Air iOS app.
    Are there any settings or hacks I could try to reduce the time?
    I'm using Flash CS 6 + AIR SDK 16 on a Windows 8.1 laptop.
    Stats:
    - Intel Pentium Prozessor (1,5 GHz, Intel HD Graphics, Microsoft Windows 8, 64-bit)
    - 4 GB DDR3-RAM
    - 500 GB Hybrid-SSHD-Festplatte with 8 GB SSD
    Thanks for any tips.

    Hi,
    I'm really interested in this feature as well. Have spent a bit of time attempting to get one running through a native extension but it doesn't appear to work. I believe something in the AIR build process is blocking the components required. I've tried several methods so far:
    packaging the appex with an ANE
    packaging the appex with the AIR container app
    using a class instead of a storyboard
    But nothing seems to be working. This is even before the app extension is doing anything. My guess is that the plist file specifying the app extension isn't correctly being included in the application but I have no idea how to update it to test.

  • Open local PDF in browser (Folio)

    I'd like to include a PDF in my publication (local, not online). When you click a button in the publication, this PDF needs to be displayed in the internal Folio browser. Is this possible?

    Zip the file, upload as HTMLResources.zip. the button needs to point to
    "HTMLResources/filename.pdf"
    As far as I can recall.

  • Commenting functionality not available when I open a pdf in air application

    commenting functionality not available when I open a pdf in
    air application. Adobe documentation says that is expected with
    adobe air 1.0 but I still have the same problem even if I use the
    latest air runtime

    Back up all data.
    In the Finder, select Go ▹ Go to Folder from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Copy the line of text below into the box that opens, and press return:
    /Library/Internet Plug-ins
    From the folder that opens, remove any items that have the letters “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then quit and relaunch Safari, and test.
    I've seen an unconfirmed report that the "Silverlight" web plugin distributed by Microsoft can also interfere with PDF display in Safari, so you might need to remove it as well, if applicable.
    If you still have the issue, repeat with this line:
    ~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
    If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari again.

  • Debug Air iOS app on device with Flash CS6?

    Hi,
    Is it possible to debug an Air iOS app on device to get all the trace() messages?
    I'm using Flash CS6 with the AIR SDK 16.
    Thanks

    Go to publish settings:
    - Select Quick publishing for device debugging and select your LAN/WIFI adapter IP from the list
    - Install IPA to your device
    - In Flash CS6 go to Debug panel -> Begin Remote Debug Session > ActionScript 3.0
    You will see:
    Waiting for Player to connect...
    in the output panel
    Now launch your application on your device. Be sure that you in the same WiFi network with your desktop. If Flash CS6 can't connect to the device and still waiting for it - try to disable firewall.

  • Load an interactive slide into an AIR iOS app. Is it possible?

    HI,
    Imagine having a Flash app which could dynamically load an external interactiveSlide.swf with which you could interact with. You could then unload/remove the interactiveSlide.swf.
    I'm wanting to create a similar model for iOS.
    So I create my AIR iOS app that can dynamically load external content. My question is does anyone have any ideas how I could package the interactiveSlide so it could be loaded by the AIR/iOS app?
    .swf obviously wouldn't work.
    Thanks,
    Mark

    HI Chris,
    Thanks for taking the time to reply.
    Could you expand on your answer, which bit is very doubtful?
    Also in your knowledge would Apple work with a company and license it if the software they were developing was desired by consumer demand?
    Thanks

  • Reader 9.1 very slow to open local pdfs

    I'm having an issue with Reader 9.1 taking a very long time to open local pdfs. I'm running on a well equipped laptop. I try opening a single page pdf (nothing fancy) and it takes at least a good 45 seconds to a minute to open, even with Reader already open (with no file previously open). Doesn't matter the size of the file, still takes a very long time.
    If I close the file and re-open it without shutting the computer down, it opens up right away though.
    Any suggestions? This has been going on for quite some time and is quite frustrating...
    Thanks!

    Sounds familiar, try turning off "show PDF in browser" in preferences - I just tried that, and it helped. Could even turn it on again without going back to my 12 second open delay, and the good news survived a reboot, but I will see...
    In my case it took exactly 12 seconds for each local, unprotected, etc., file I opened for the first time after starting up the system. I checked network activity, and found that NETBIOS sends an NbtNs message via broadcast from all network adapters on the computer (with IP installed) every 0.75 seconds, retrying 16 times, and getting no answer. Unfortunately that's where my wisdom ends - while I can capture network traffic with MS Network Monitor, I cannot interpret the stuff.
