  • Problems opening PDF files from Websites

    I just had the contents of my (dying) ibook transferred onto my emac. The tech created a new user/desktop on the emac. Now, when I try to open PDF files from a website, I get a window saying this:
    "Downloading - users/myname/desktop/xxxxx.pdf could not be saved because an unknown error occurred. Try saving to a different location."
    Points to note: 1) The "xxxxx.pdf" part of the above message changes each time I try to open a pdf document, even the same one, and it does not show the real name of the document (e.g. CollegeApplication.pdf)
    2) this never happened on my laptop;
    3) the settings are set in Firefox to download pdf's to my desktop;
    4) I have the latest version of Adobe Acrobat, which I already tried opening before downloading.
    Any ideas? Thank you!

    Will the new account save to a different location?
    Is the "myname" that appears in the error message that of the new account or of the old one?
    Following up on Frank's tip about file permissions, is it possible that the GID of the new user account conflicts with the existing? The existing admin user was likely GID = 501 on both Macs, and depending on how the laptop's data was transferred, the internal ownership of the transferred files still points to 502 rather than say 502.
    have you tried the old standby of running Disk Utility's Repair Permissions on the hard drive?

  • Not opening pdf docs from websites

    We recently installed Adobe Acrobat (full version) 7 onto our computers.  For some reason it will now not open any docs that are pdf's from websites/webpages which has rendered my computer virutally useless as I'm an insurance agent and 90% of what I print are pdf's from carrier websites.  Thoughts?  I've messed with my restricted sites options and some of my security features and am not having luck.

    Thanks Tim,
    I am using IE, so I did the instructions, but the box was already marked.  It so weird, whenever I go to open the PDF's from online it just errors out and says IE isn’t responding.  I'm sure it has to do w/ the Adobe b/c that is the only change that was made to my PC between the time it worked and stopped working...

    Safari seems to have trouble with FTP sites.  You may need another Browser to open these PDFs.  Opera seems to Work.

  • Cannot open pdf created from website

    Hi, I am trialling Acrobat V9 Pro (on Win XP SP2, 1Gb RAM) and have tried to create a pdf from a multilayered website. It all appears to work fine (looks great in Acrobat), but when I try and open the resulting pdf in Acrobat Reader (v5) I get the old "There was an error opening this document. The file is damaged and could not be repaired" message.
    I did a test with a single page web page conversion and that opened fine in Reader. And also with a different urled multilayered website, and that failed. How do I get this honey to work for me???
    Thanks in advance

    Being able to read a web site is problematic. The fact that you got the first one is good, but that does not mean Acrobat will work with all of the web variations. One way to get the web site (but not as interactive in a PDF form) is to print to the Adobe PDF printer from a browser that can read the site. If you need more on the issues or what works folks would need the URL of the web site to provide more info.
    For AR5, how did you transfer the PDF to AR5? Did you save the PDF from AA9 in AR5 compatible mode (likely the problem)? If not, you will need to use PDF Optimize (or Reduce File Size if you can find it in AA9) to save to be compatible with AR5. Most of the time, the newer PDFs will open, but may be missing things. It sounds like you have a case where compatibility has finally be come a viewing issue.

  • Cannot open pdf files from websites with Adobe Acrobat X

    Since purchasing and having my IT technician install Adobe Acrobat X, I can no longer open pdf documents that are hosted on websites.  We have many pdf documents on our business network and MS SharePoint sites.  Since the upgrade these will not open directly when selected in the MS Browser.  I can download the files to my computer and then open them.  I see the same issue with pdf documents hosted on "outside" websites.  I have set associations to pdf files to Adobe Acrobat 10  rather than the reader that is also installed on this machine but still have this same issue.
    The error message window that opens in the browser says, "There is a problem with Adobe Acrobat/Reader.  If it is running, please exit and try again. (1:1)
    I have tried with the Adobe application running and with it not running and there is no difference.
    Is there something I can check or have my IT technician check to try and get this issue resolved?
    I am runing Windows XP Professional with the latest service packs.
    I am using Internet Explorer 8
    Thanks,
    Keith

    Hi Keith,
    Thanks for your mail.
    Here's the link to the KB article that gives the details of how to configure the SharePoint server for Acrobat X. These changes enable PDF files opened directly from the SharePoint browser to be recognized as SharePoint files by Acrobat and this can be verified by going to the File menu in Acrobat. The File menu will have a menu item SharePoint Server.

  • I can't open PDF's from websites!!!!

    Please, I need help! So, I went to attesting.com and was having issues purchasing something from them, so I went to there technical requirements and uploaded their link for Adobe Acrobat Read X. I have a MAC version 10.9.4. It seemed everything was ok. Then I went to my school's website to print a form which is in PDF form and I get this ADOBE LOCKED THIS PDF. or something like that. It doesn't say it now. Now, when I try to open a PDF from a website it says BEFORE VIEWING PDF DOCUMENTS IN THIS BROWSER YOU MUST LAUNCHADOBE READER AND ACCEPT THE END USER AGREEMENT, THEN QUIT, AND RELAUNCH THE BROWSER. So, I've un-installed Adobe and reinstalled Adobe numerous times and I STILL CANNOT GET MY PDF's. I've NEVER had any issue before. Can anyone please help!?!?! I tried contacting Adobe and chatted with someone online and he said that he doesn't help support this issue since it's not something I've paid for. I'm so frustrated and mad! ugh! Any suggestions is much appreciated!

    And I've also just realized I can't open PDF's at all. Tried exporting on of the PDF forms from my school website to my desktop and it won't open from my desktop either. It's saying it's empty.

  • I am unable to open pdf docs from websites, specifically menus from a licensed premises.

    Firefox attempts to download the document but stops after a few seconds and freezes.

    Back up all data.
    Triple-click the line of text below to select it, the copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C):
    /Library/Internet Plug-ins
    In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder
    from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Paste into the text box that opens (command-V), then press return.
    From the folder that opens, remove any items that have "Adobe" or “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then quit and relaunch Safari, and test.
    The "Silverlight" web plugin distributed by Microsoft can also interfere with PDF display in Safari, so you may need to remove it as well, if it's present.
    If you still have the issue, repeat with this line:
    ~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
    If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari again.

  • Opening pdf files on websites to fill them in on the website

    With my iMac I can open and fill in all pdf files from websites using OSX 10.6.5.  On my macbook pro using 10.7.5  or later safari will no longer open pdf files on websites and just gives you a blank black page.  I use these all the time on sites from the IRS or other taxing agencies and fill in the forms and save them or print them.  I have not upgraded my OS on my desktop because of this.  Why is this happening and how do I fix it if it can be fixed.  I talked to someone at applecare and they said the fuctionality was no longer in the operating system to do this and I can only download the pdf files.  That is not sufficient because these are fillable forms on their websites.  All businesses use this function and if apple really wants people to use their computers for business I would hope that their not so monumentally stupid as to write this out of the newer OS.  HELP

    Try another browser such as Firefox until this gets sorted out.

  • After installing update 11.0.07, I have been unable to print pdf douments from websites displayed in I.E. 11

    I just installed 11.0.07 and since then have been unable to print pdf documents from websites displayed in I.E. 11 (32 bit). The problem did not exist until I installed the update. Opening the same sites with Chrome solves the problem, but some of the important sites I use, (FAA WebOPPS for instance) don't work with Chrome or anything other than I.E. for that matter. Does anyone know if Adobe is aware of the bug and working on a fix?

    Let me put it in context.I am a developer, and in my work we create a flex application a few years ago and we are providing support to this application. Since 2 days ago th button we create in our application for View PDF just stopped working. We use this code:
    public function navigate( url:String ):void
      navigateToURL( new URLRequest( url ), OPEN_NEW_WINDOW );
    It is very simplistic and worked fine as I told you, until Tuesday this week. Please tell me what happened, it seems the last plugin version crashes somewhere and my button just does not work any more.
    Thank you.

  • Why doesn't my macbook pro open pdf files from internet?

    Nothing happens after tab opens when i try to download pdf files from websites to my macbook pro..any ideas as to what needs to be done to resolve this issue??

    What browser?  If you're using Safar, do a reset on it from the main menu.  Your Mac should have a native PDF viewer that has a plug-in in Safari to allow for this.
    Or you could always load up Adobe Reader off Adobe's website and work with that after you install it.  I'd try the browser reset first.  Be aware that it'll purge your history, etc.

    The pdf is loading as html code. If you save it, it will download as :
    605124.pdf.html
    Change the extension to .pdf
    And it opens and works perfectly, I just tested it:
