Open print form in adobe reader (not acrobat)

Hi there,
I have a print form scenario where the form is opened from an ABAP web dynpro and should open in adobe reader. However the client has an older version of acrobat installed and the form is opening in this by default.
Is there a way to force it to use reader ? thanks for any advice

Of course you should be able to change this on the OS level. Like File types (or right mouse, open file, last option + check use this for all the documents of this type).
But... I was not able to change this myself. Or maybe was but any time I have used the Acrobat, it changed this setting back to Acrobat. That is clearly because Acrobat feels "something better" than the Reader:))

  • Can't Open PDF form in Adobe Reader 11.0.3 on Mac OSX 10.8.4 Intel

    Hi,
I hope you can help, this is driving me nuts.
I have a PDF Form which opens fine in Windows Adobe Reader, when I attempt to open it on OS X I get the following:
    Please wait...
If this message is not eventually replaced by the proper contents of the document, your PDF viewer may not be able to display this type of document.
You can upgrade to the latest version of Adobe Reader for Windows®, Mac, or Linux® by visiting http://www.adobe.com/go/reader_download.
For more assistance with Adobe Reader visit http://www.adobe.com/go/acrreader.
Windows is either a registered trademark or a trademark of Microsoft Corporation in the United States and/or other countries. Mac is a trademark of Apple Inc., registered in the United States and other countries. Linux is the registered trademark of Linus Torvalds in the U.S. and other countries.
No matter how long I wait it will not replace this text with the actual form. I have tried installing the latest 10.x as well and still have the same problem.
How can I debug what is going on rather than just "waiting"...?
    Thanks!

I'm encountering the same problem on the two computers below. Email attachments will open in the same manner. Attempts to download or open PDFs on the Internet result in a black page with no content or the warning you've noted above.
    Macbook pro 15 running 10.8.4
    Mac Mini running 10.8.4
I am able to open PDFs on a Mac pro 17 running 10.7.5. I have used airdrop to move the document to one of the above two computers. This results in the original file becoming corrupted and unable to open and the file moved to the other computer will also state that it is corrupted.
There is clearly something amiss in Adobe and Mac working together. (And it is causing considerable frustration at this point.)
I should add, I have the full Adobe PDF product on the Mac Mini.

  • Radio Buttons & Check Boxes Replaced w/ Rectangles, when printing Form w/ Adobe Reader XI (11.0.03)

Hello.  I need to be able to print a .pdf copy of a completed web page form.  The form is completed by entering data into text boxes and text areas, and selecting various radio buttons and check boxes.  When the form is complete, it is saved, which converts the form into a .pdf file.
When I open the saved .pdf file, it looks completely normal.  I will then select the print button, which is built into the display window for the form.  The printed form will appear, but the radio buttons and check boxes will have been replaced with the outline of rectangles.
This is what the source form looks like, before printing:
This is what the printed image looks like, after printing.  NOTE: All check boxes and radio buttons (and the data that they contained) are gone:
I am not sure if this is a setting that needs to be changed in Adobe REader XI, or something else.
Please let me know what you think it might be.
    Thanks,
    Rick

    Michael,
    It is a web/html form.
The forms are built and used inside of a software program called WebEOC.
WebEOC is used to allow for sharing information between different
emergency response entities (like a State, and the counties within the
    State).
The form I am working with was built with a web page editing program.  The
form uses html, xhtml, xml, CSS and javascript.
A for user would launch the WebEOC form (after logging into WebEOC), and
they would fill out the form.  Text goes into text boxes and text areas,
dropdown menu selections are made, and some information is entered using
    radio buttons and check boxes.
When the form is complete, it is saved within the WebEOC database, as a
    .pdf file.
You can then open the .pdf file in order to see the form, in it's
    completed state, as a pdf.
When I try to pint this pdf file of the completed form, the check boxes
and radio buttons are replaced with rectangles.  Any selections made in
the radio buttons or checkboxes is lost.
    Thanks,
    Rick

  • Can't open interactive form with adobe reader mobile version

    Hello,
I have an interactive PDF document which I would like to open with my mobile phone (Android) and the adobe reader. If I open the document an error message appears.
Do we need to adjust the script to enable interactive forms also on mobile devices? The pdf document can be opend on my PC without issues.
    Thank you

    Hi,
Based on your description, I believe that the PDF Form that you are trying to open and fill out is an XFA form. Mobile Reader currently cannot display XFA forms. For these XFA PDF files, you will need to open them on your desktop Adobe Reader to read and fill the form.
    Thanks,

  • Cannot open a PDF form in Adobe Reader 7

    Hello
I have developed a form in Adobe LiveCycle Designer 8. The form has java script embedded in it to do validations. The form has Usage Rights enabled and works well versions 8 and 9. However, when I open the form in Adobe Reader 7, I am getting an error message asking me to download a higher version. When I view the form properties in LiveCycle Designer for this form, I have the following settings:
XDP Preview form: Acrobat 7 (static PDF form) under defaults tab.
Under compatibility tab, I have the following settings:
Form Type: Acrobat 8 (static PDF form)
    Text Formatting: Version 7
    Event model: Version 7.
Much appreciate if someone could tell me how to make this form compatible with Adobe Reader 7.

thanks Jono But I cannot see any option to set Target Version.
the options I have are XDP Preview format and PDF Render Format which are set to Acrobat 7 static PDF form.
I have set a permissions password on the form using Acrobat 8 and under Password security settings , I have set the compatibility as Acrobat 5.0 or later. However, When I look at the form properties by opening the same form in LiveCycle, the compatibility still shows Acrobat 8 static PDF form.
How do I get this form to be opened by users in Adobe 7?
    Appreciate your quick response.

  • How to open in regular adobe reader, NOT touch?

How do I open a pdf in adobe reader, NOT adobe reader touch, as I am on a laptop?  I dowloaded adobe reader, and uninstalled (I thought) adobe reacher touch - yet when I open a file from email - it defaults to touch which I cannot operate on a laptop.

You can go to Control Panel > Programs > Default Programs > Set Default Programs, then set Adobe Reader XI as the default program.

  • Cannot complete form using Adobe Reader - Mac OS X 10.6.8

I have been using Adobe Reader to complete forms for my Bank for more than 9 months without any problems.  I'm using Adobe Reader 10.1.1 for Mac.  I recently upgraded my OS from 10.5.8 to 10.6.8 and this is the first time I've tried to use Adobe Reader since the upgrade. Today when I opened my form using Adobe Reader I cannot select and type in any of the text fields.  Trying to click inside a text box simply seems to 'select' the entire page.
I checked online but could not find any compatibility issues.  I'm hoping that I've overlooked something very simple that I should have done but have no idea what that could be.
I would be very grateful if someone could advise me what my problem might be.
    Cheers

Thanks for responding Ankit.  No, I saved the form to a folder on my desktop and I open it using the Adobe Reader app.  It has always worked without a problem before.  I checked my husband's iMac (which has the same saved form on his Desktop).  He is also running OS X 10.6.8.  On his machine it opened without a hitch so I used his computer to fill in the form and print it out.  Obviously, if it works on his computer and he's also using 10.6.8 it's not related to the upgrade.
I trashed my copy of Adobe Reader and have re-downloaded the app.  Will install it and see whether it now works or if the problem persists.  Will post back the results.'
    Cheers

The add annotations field shows as not allowed in the security options. So how do I send this form back with the changes??

I think you you need to click 'save' first, then it is saved to acrobat, where it will prompt to send.

  • I'm not able to open PDF files in Adobe Reader XI.

I recently updated to Adobe Reader XI and now I can't open any of my PDF documents or PDF e-mail attachments.  When I click on a document I now get a window that asks if I want to allow this file to open.  I click yes and get a monstrousity the likes I've never seen.  It blacks out my screen for a couple seconds and then I get a mixture of my desktop, task bar, and a window wanting to know if I want to open this with Protected Mode disabled.  It only fills 3/4 of the screen, the items all all blown-up in size, and are distorted.  In playing with this I have gotten notes that I have an "Incompatable Application" and "Acrobat failed to connect to a DDS Server".  On occasion I will get an Adobe Reader screen that is completely greyed out with no content in it and after a couple of seconds it goes off.  Other times I got the window about Protected Mode and I've clicked on to disable it but that doesn't work either.  I removed Adobe Reader XI and re-installed Adobe Reader X and I still have the same problem which I did not have before.  I 'm running Windows 7 Professional and have McAfee anti-virus, which I have disbled on one occasion during download and that I still had the same problem.  I went to program files to find the End User License Agreement and try to see if I needed to click on 'Accept" but it tells me the file does not exist.  I even tried using System Restore to take me back to before I did the upgrade to Adobe Reader XI and I still have this problem.  I'm at the end of my knowledge level and because these files are needed in my business I'm only able to operate at about 50%.

  • Adobe Reader not opening PDF Portfolio - Flash player error

I have Acrobat 9 Standard installed on my PC and I created a PDF Portfolio. Acrobat Standard can open that Portfolio just fine.
I also have Acrobat Reader installed (11.0.2).and have Adobe Flash Player (11.7.700.169) installed. Both Reader and Flash Player work fine independently on PDF or Flash content.
However when I try to open the PDF portfolio with Reader, I get the following Error:
:"To view the Flash technology in this FDF file; please install this version of Flash player that supports Adobe reader and Acrobat".
The Dialog box with the message above has a [Proceed to download page] button (which does nothing but bring up Reader with a black page), a [Learn more] button (similar behavior), and a [Cancel] button.  Both Reader and Flash are the latest versions as of today (4/16/2013).
Any help or insight with this is appreciated.

  • Adobe Reader and Acrobat Pro updates for 11.0.10 being pushed out through SolarWinds Patch Manager are not being recognized as applicable.

I am trying to update our Adobe Reader and Acrobat Pro to 11.0.10 using the default MSP packages with SolarWinds Patch Manager.  All of the systems keep reporting as 'NOT APPLICABLE'.  All of the workstations have Reader11.0.09, with about 10% still on 11.0.08 (due to the fact that the reader 11.0.09 package only patched about 2/3 of the systems).  All systems that have Acrobat Pro are 11.0.09.
In SolarWinds I am using the "Adobe Systems, Inc. Packages" node.
    Adobe Systems Acrobat 11 Catalog
    Adobe Systems Reader 11 Catalog
and the SW Patch Manager downloads the msp's straight from Adobe.
I have checked the msp's manually and they will update at least back to 11.0.07 in Reader, and 11.0.0 in Acrobat Pro. (I had an old stand alone system that still had Reader 11.0.07, and I did a new install of Pro and went straight to update 11.0.10)
The SolarWinds Tech said, "Okay. That content is produced by Adobe. Any questions concerning applicability logic or diagnosing why a package reports as NotApplicable when that's not expected would need to be directed to Adobe, as they are solely responsible for that content and its behavior".
I am new to SolarWinds Patch Manager, and any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

It sounds like you are attempting to use the SCUP catalogs outside of the MS solution.  I can almost guarantee you that Adobe didn't test it if it's not referenced in the ETK:  11   SCCM-SCUP — Enterprise Administration Guide
That being said there "should" be logging available in any deployment solution.   Since I am not familiar with Solar-Winds particular solution I can't say if it logs errors and how verbose those logs might be.    If you have logs then post the output and the forum members "might" be able to assist you.

  • How do I change the color of font in a fillable form in Adobe Reader? How can I check if the writer of the document has given permission to edit color and not just add text?

How do I change the color of font in a fillable form in Adobe Reader? How can I check if the writer of the document has given permission to edit color and not just add text? Please help! I'm technologically challenged.

Most forms (99% or more) are created for simple text input, where you cannot change anything.
The creator of the form could allow Rich Text input (which allows you to change font, text size, color, etc.), but frankly I have never seen such a form, and I wouldn't know how they look.  But I'm sure they would show some kind of controls to alter the text appearance.

Hi I would like to know, how do I add a Hyperlink on Flash, that opens a PDF in adobe reader and not the web browser.

Yoh, what is FSCCommanr ? sorry man I am an absolute beginner in Flash. I tried the code:
/* Click to Go to Web Page
Clicking on the specified symbol instance loads the URL in a new browser window.
    Instructions:
    1. Replace http://www.adobe.com with the desired URL address.
       Keep the quotation marks ("").
    instance_name_here.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, fl_ClickToGoToWebPage);
    function fl_ClickToGoToWebPage(event:MouseEvent):void {
      navigateToURL(new URLRequest("http://www.adobe.com"), "_blank");
this is the same code I used before and it opens a pdf file in a web browser, and it doesn't open an AutoCAD file.
