Open "project.app" from "project.osx"

Hi everyone,
I created a Director splash using Director MX2004 on WindowsXP. I published my project for Mac ("project.osx"). I also have a seperate project created in Flash CS4 that was published for Mac ("project.app"). Using buddyAPI, I cannot open "project.app" from a button used on "project.osx". Is this even possible to do? I cannot find any type of documentation on this issue...

Well.... I figured it out. I changed my delimiter to ":" for Mac (instead of "\"). Also, I was NOT telling it to open "project.app", I was telling it to open "project.osx".

No. The iPhone and Mac are totally different hardware architecture. Software compiled for one will not run on the other.

Spaces opening random app from dock

I'm using spaces (9). Different space for different app (iTunes, Mail, etc). When I want to move some file/folder from one space to another one, I grab the file activate spaces (in my right top corner of my screen) move on correct space and press spacebar (it activate the space immediately). At that moment random app from dock is started.
What is wrong? How can I avoid this? It is very annoying.

You might try launchd which takes over many tasks of cron as well as other stuff, and to use it you might try Lingon, http://sourceforge.net/projects/lingon/files/, although it is now out of development. I used Lingon last year and found it quite useful, whether or no it is happy under SL I do not know. But there are lots of examples on the web about how to set up an agent for launchd and it might provide an alternative.
An iCal event is probably the easiest though, and you can hook in an automator script to make things really exciting.

No. Windows Store apps cannot directly open other apps. Launching protocols out files into the default handlers is the only option.
This launch can only be done while the app is on the foreground. You're probably calling this too early. Wait for the app to be fully initialized and running.

I'm trying to make a simple Xcode app, so that when people click a button, it will open another app, such as an AppleScript, which will run a code in Terminal. So for instance, click "Make my Mac speak" Then it would open the AppleScript and Terminal would pop open and run the code " say Hello, my name is Macintosh". Thats just an example of what I'm trying to do. Please can someone help me. I don't need help with the AppleScript part, just getting Xcode to open the AppleScript. Thank you!

Hi,
If the App is Quit then either the Applications Folder, Launch Pad or the Dock to open the app.
In the Menu Bar icon is displayed (See General Section of the Preferences) it will only open the app as a Process of creating a New Messages entry in the main window.

Can't open mac app store after osx mavericks install

i just finished the install of OSX Mavericks, but for some reason i cannot open the mac app store, i tried restarting the computer several times and nothing, try to open it from the dock, applications folder, even terminal, and NOTHING, it jumps once on the dock and nothing, i dont know what to do please help!!!

I have the same problem. The install seemed to go fine, it rebooted and the only APPLE app I can use is Safari and Itunes, The Mac Apple store freezes, Ibooks, Iphoto etc, all of them just lock up when I open them, even drop down items under the little Apple are frozen. I'm disgusted, any help would be appreciated.

How can I open an app from an e-mail link that is associated with link.

I get e-mails with links in them all the time (from forms, online shopping, etc). Some of those links are for websites that have an iphone app associated with them (especially forums). When I click on the link it tells me as much, and if I click "ok" to that dialog, it takes me to the App Store and to that specific App, where I can download it. Even when I have that app installed, rather than taking me to that app when I click on the link, I get the dialog again telling me that there is an app associated with their website (which I already know because I have the app). Is there any way to get these links to open in the associated App, rather than trying to open them up in the browser?

Open Directory Migration from Mac OSX Server 10.4.11 to 10.8?

I manage an old (2004) G5 Xserve still successfully running OS X 10.4.11 with about 450 users in the Open Directory. I just purchased a Mac mini Server which will run OSX Server 10.8. I want to migrate all the user accounts from the old G5 Xserve to the new Mac Mini server. Can someone spell out the step-by-step process or point me to a document that can help me. I have searched through many of the apple discussion forum threads and Apple Server migration docs, but have not found a clear path to follow to get the old OSX 10.4.11 user accounts onto the new OSX 10.8 Mac Mini server.
The G5 server does not serve mail, print, or any other services other than the user accounts (home directories) for the users.

If you don't mind clearing ser passwords, then I would export users from 10.4 and import into 10.8
There are some issues with service ACLs in doing this, but its still the fastest process.
If users are allowed to set their own PW, the you give provide preset pw's (either unique or common) and a URL to allow users to reset their PW.
If you need to retain passwords, what I would do is clone the 10.4 server, then upgrade it all the way to 10.8 then archive OD from that and import into a clean-install of 10.8 server.
Whataver you do, don't rely on a 10.4 to 10.8 migration, you'll want a clean 10.8 install.
The offline 10.4 -> 10.8 would allow you to retain PWs, but it creates alot of extra work for you.

Error while opening gui app from commandline[SOLVED]

When I try to run a gui application from command line, I get following error:

You are trying to run thunar as root. I really suggest you not run GUI stuff that can move and delete stuff with a mouse gesture as root.
I assume you are not running X as root. If you are, allow me to redouble my previous admonition.
In your example, are you running that from the command line, or from a terminal emulator under X?
If you must run as root, try MisterAnderson's suggestion, but note that the command is issued as a normal user.
You can also run thunar as root from a terminal by specifying the X session to which to attach, but I cannot put the incantation together off the top of my head. If you are interested, let us know and someone will probably come up with help.

How to open text app from text alert in iOS 8?

I have an issue. When I'm in another app and I get a text alert, I have the option to reply or to close. It I click "reply" it does a quick reply box, but you don't have the choice to go directly to the text app. If someone sends you two msgs back to back, you only see the last one, so if you missed #1, you can't see it unless you close the quick reply and manually go to the text app. Is there a way around this? Can you swipe or hold or anything to go from the alert to the text app itself? I'm tearing my hair out here. I like the new iOS 8 aside from this. What if you're browsing Facebook or Twitter while waiting on a text, someone sends two in a row, you only get an alert for the second one, and you can't see the first one unless you close out and go back to the text app. Any help would be appreciated!

Chris: Thanks for the response. Is there any way you can set up to keep banners up until you dismiss them or will they always disappear? I love my alerts, I just don't like it that I can't go directly to the app anymore..

Open another app from iBooks

I am making a textbook for my students using iBooks Author. I would like to create a link that opens another presentation app (Qwiki) for further information. Every time I make a hyperlink, iBooks puts http:// in front of the link, which will not allow the Qwiki app to open.
Does anyone know how to fix this?

Open Directory Migration from Mac OSX Server 10.4 to 10.8?

This might be a silly question and apologise in advanced if this is?
We are running on old Xserve (10.4.8) with approx. 100 Mac clients and would like to know if it's possible to migrate from OD 10.4 to OD 10.8. We tried just to see what would happen if we archived the old OD and re-imported in to 10.8, but as we guessed this didn’t work. I’ve looked through this forum and seems most are doing this from 10.5, so wondering if we need to upgrade to 10.5 and then up to 10.8?
Any pointers would be great.
