From an external application that opens Firefox browser and we got two monitors (extended desktop), it happens that opens Firefox where is the mouse pointer. This is hampering us greatly because of the screens should not be opened for any reason in one of these screens.

I'm about to install Lion Server and we're concerned that more than one person will be able to open the same file at the same time. Can this be prevented? If not it seems to make the concept of a server pointless?

The file server software supports file locking, but multiple file access is application-dependent. In some cases it's entirely valid for multiple users to access the same file. It's up to the application to allow or deny this.
Ordinarily, if an application requires exclusive access it should flag the file accordingly when it opens the file. This will prevent other users from opening the file. However, it's not up to the server to do this.

Now it opens in the screen mode the InDesign page is in when checked in. We don't want that.

No, there's no way to get rid of it in InCopy. InCopy opens layouts in the mode the InDesign user saved them, including Normal vs. Preview, Frame edges showing or not, Hidden characters showing or not, and so on.
You could try asking the designers to switch to Normal view before saving the INDD file. Or you could assign a keyboard shortcut to the Normal view in InCopy and tell everyone to use that. We're on Macs so we use Control-N for Normal and Control-Shift-N for Preview.

In the Library Chooser Panel look for the pathes to the two duplicate libraries. You will see the location of the libraries in the path bar at the bottom of the window when you select one of the libraries. Does it show both libraries in the same folder?

I have separate iWeb (sites2) files. iWeb opens the same one.

I have several sites2 files ( customer1.sites2...customer2.sites2 ) and so on. After upgrading to Lion, iWeb keeps opening the same one. I cannot get it to open another one. Any clues?

I have been trying to switch from Dreamweaver (too hard for my tastes, but nice power) to iWeb (simple - but lacks power).
Now that I am in mid-switch, I wonder what to do. If they are dropping iWeb, then I am dead-ending my work.
Apple seems committed to a path of targeting sales to amateurs and teenagers.
They are making lots of money, and I suppose they are riding the crest of the age wave - so they will continue to be successful - but they will not capture the business market until they get serious software. But they probably don't care.

I can not open the image, but I can say something in general about the tilde. 
The tilde "~" is an unreserved character and therefore it can be replaced by its percent-encoded form "%7E" inside a URI without changing meaning. See

According to section 2.3 of RFC3986 we should prefer the unencoded form so this behavior seems to be a bit out-dated.

Thanks very much for the instructions. I encountered this problem this morning myself and the recommendation fixed the problem immediately. When things like this happen with iCloud and Pages it makes me wonder if I might be better off using something else, having just recently had to fix the problem that the current Pages can't read documents I created with a much earlier version until they were "upgraded" by an interim version.

Thank you - that all makes sense. It is, indeed, exactly what I did when I upgraded.
I'm also writing this on the machine that crashed a few minutes ago (I posted the crash in another thread). I got back with a 'safe boot' - as I have done a few times before.
I've also de-installed little snitch (and then done a safe-boot & then re-boot ) since that seemed involved. I de-installed Adobe flash, since that seemed to be a problem - I then re-installed the later, apparently fixed, flash. The most recent crashes don't seeme to have a problem with flash any more.
I've posted the various ( generally different ) crashes. I also posted a summary of the similar lines that turn up in most of the crashes.
Unfortuantely, I'm actually trying to use the machine to meet some urgent deadlines and all this is not making it at all easy.
I had had great hopes for 10.7.2 - I thought that the crashes must be pretty common, so would have a common aetiology. There do seem to have been some fundamental changes to the file sytem and to the video interface (that seems to cause problems to brand new iMacs as well as to my 2009 iMac).

Process Default roles are assigned to "Portal Roles" instead of "Individual user".
It was found that two users can open the same action without any warnings.
My requirement is if two users at the same time access the same action then some message should be displayed or no two users are allowed to view the same action at the same time. If one user is working on it then other user should be restricted?
How to achieve this?
Previously I was using 2004s in that senario I was getting this message
"The following action has been opened by another 1 user(s). The last access time is: Tuesday, June 30, 2009 5:40:00 AM"
This message is not visible in CE 7.1
Do I have to configure something for that.

Regarding your query on restricting one user if another user has already opened a task, I would say there is no simple solution to this.
We are working on similar GP Processes where a task goes to multiple users. But we do not have requirement like yours. Nevertheless I still gave a thought on your query as to how it can be achieved. I could think of using static variables in Web Dynpro code such that as soon as a task is opened (or execute method is called), a Boolean static variable is set to true. Now if any other user tries to open the task, we do a check whether the variable is true or false. If the variable is false, then show some error or the screen in disabled mode.
But this is not so good as it looks. A problem would come in a scenario where the task is opened by multiple users, with one user having control on the task. But this user closes the task without approving it. Now we are in trouble. I thought maybe what we can do is set the static variable back to false in the wdDoExit() method. But I could still see scenarios where process will not behave properly.
I would leave it up to you to give it some more thought. You might find some clue.
In your second post, you are asking "Can we provide functionality where only one user can access the action". I think this can simply be achieved by assigning a single user to the action rather than assigning a Portal Role.

How do I open the same ports on an Airport Extreme Base Station for multiple computers at the same time?

As the title suggests...
I have a mix of five Mac and PC's at home using an Airport Extreme Base Station as the router.   I need many ports opened on the AEBS for all of the computers- not just one computer. (for example: three people want to play TF2 on Steam at the same time; each machine needs the correct ports open on the router).   Port forwarding only allows me to forward a given port to a single IP, yet I need that port open for five differnt IP's, all at the same time.
How do I do that on an AEBS?
In the same way, I have a small office of four iMacs using an old airport with the same exact issue.   I would like to be able to connect to all of them remotely with Apple Remote Desktop, but the port forwarding on the airport only allows a port to forward to a single IP.   I want to be able to tunnel into the office network and log onto any machine behind the Airport extreme... not just a single IP.    I currently have it set up where I can tunnel into the office from my house, I can find the one machine that the port forwarding has been assigned to, I can log on and everything is just fine... with one machine.    How do I open the firewall for the other machines?

You can open a single or multiple ports to a single device or different ports to different devices, but you cannot open the same port to multiple devices via the AirPort Utility for the Apple routers.

If I want to open the same website in a second tab and press Ctrl+T and start typing the website title or URL, why does Firefox 4 insist on switching to the first tab? Is it possible to turn this off?

I regularly need to open the same website in two tabs, to be able to view changes made between opening the first and second tabs. In Firefox 3.x I could press Ctrl+T and start typing the website title or URL, which would be auto-completed by Firefox. This enabled me to quickly open the same website in a second tab. Firefox 4 does not do this, instead it wants me to switch to the existing tab. This is not what I need.
Of course it is possible to open the same website in a second tab via e.g. a bookmark, but this takes more time and effort. It would be great if I could select Firefox's behavior in this situation.

To create a duplicate of an existing tab in Firefox 4, do one of the following:

*hold down the Ctrl key and drag the tab until a small arrow appears at the border between tabs, then release the mouse button, then release the Ctrl key.

Opening the same file in by different users

As a newbie to InDesign I got a workflow question.
Working with a team of 6 designers, we would like all to work in the same InDesign document. We need to create a big salebooks book, therefore it is necessary to open the same file in different copy of indesign?
Currently we are working with CS5 and when I have a indd file open, none of my coworkers are able to open the file except for a copy. I understand that really working together on the same file is something you could do. But can’t be like in MS-Office? The moment you open a indd file which is already opened by a other user, you will get a message and you can then either to open as read only or a notification when the other user is ready editing the file

I would actually be surprised if there are no workflow management plugins that do this.
As you imply, it's really not that hard to do.
Making it look really slick would probably require a plugin.
But you could do it fairly easily with some simple scripting, a few hours of work.
One script that runs whenever anyone opens or closes a file and registers that open/closure with a server.
Plus some extra stuff to deal with messaging.

How about if you right click on the PDF and select Save Link As..., and then open it locally from within Reader? Does it work ok then? That might be a workaround until the issue within the browser is resolved.

Two users opened the same file at the same time with file on Win2K Server

I just had a problem with a file that could not be saved. After a little investigation I discovered that two users had the same file open at the same time. This is with both users using InDesign CS2 and saving to a Windows 2000 Server. Any ideas how this even happened? The only thing I can think of is if they both opened the file at the exact same time but even that I doubt. I guess the more likely possibility is that the user on 10.5 (which we have had a lot of problems with, it's hard to tell how many of them are CS3 problems (yes CS3) and how many are Windows 2003 Server problems) had InDesign CS2 flake out and not tell her the file was open. Has anybody else seen this? The other user was using 10.4. Both computers have the most recent updates for the OS and for their various adobe products.

I have videos on mov file and my quick time player does not play them.
The MOV file container is the generic QT file container. Any audio and video data compatible with the computer system used to create the file can be placed in the MOV file container. Unfortunate, other systems cannot play the file unless they too are configured with the same components as those used to create the file. The normal procedure here is to use the Finder "Info" or alternative media play "Inspector" window to determine what codecs were used to create the original file and, if they are available for your Mac, install them on your system for playback use. Also be advised that some "legacy" codecs may require playback in the QT 7 Player for proper QT support.
I opened with other players, there is no sound. Then I opened the same file on my windows 7, it plays perfectly with the sound and everything? What is the problem?
This would indicate these players either access your QT codec component configuration which does not include the required codec or the app has its own built-in codec support which does not include the required audio codec but you Windows 7 media player is configured with the required codec support. This may incidate the use of a really old codecs that may or may not be available/supported on a Mac any longer.

How can I set the finder window to open the same way every time?

Everytime I open Finder it goes back to it's default view which is just too small, but I want to set the finder columns and window so that they open the same exact way every single time. I'm tired of resizing everything.
Currently I have to resize every window and column everytime and I think my work is much slower then when I was on Windows because of it.
Is there a setting, script, file, patch, anything, is there absolutely anything I can do to actually control the Finder views and make them adjust to MY criteria and stay that way...

That is a big negative. That does absolutely nothing other then close my window, next time the finder window is opened then the column widths are small again.
In Windows Explorer all your windows are customizable, how do I do this with Finder?
