Opening 5.5 sessions in LP 7....one question...

Hi Guys
For the ones using LP7, if you were using and old version of emagic 5.5, did you have any problems opening the session files?
I have lp8, but the exs24 instruments are always crossed out when i open the old sessions in LP8. I am hoping in LP7 this wont be an issue, save it in lp7 then open it in lp8
Any help would be great

I've tried to open some pre 5 documents with LP8 without success.
Then I opened them in Logic Express 7 and I had no problems.
But the cross on the EXS24 could be caused by the fact that you don't have the patches used int that song.

You need to be very careful which project you open in which version.
For 2014 make sure its on 2014.1 build 81.

Please see this support article on [[Session Restore]]. Follow the instructions under the "Configuring session restore" header. When you get to the step where it says "Show my windows and tabs from last time" you can choose from showing your homepage or showing a blank page instead.

Function Module to open a new session displaying a method of a class

Hello All,
I have a method A of class B.
Now, in my current session, I have a button. When the user clicks on this button, what I expect is that a new session be opened and in the new session method A of class B be displayed.
This is similar to the debugger, wherein, in the debugging mode, we can bring up the context menu in the Source Code (Edit Control) tool, and then select "Go To Source Code".
So basically, I am looking for a Function Module which does the same.
I came across Function Module CC_CALL_TRANSACTION_NEW_TASK, however, this will only create a new session.
I could specify the transaction as SE24, but it then opens a new session with this transaction. That is it.
My objective is to display the method of a class in a new session.
Is there any Function Module in this case?

Thank you very much. That was exactly what I was looking for.
However, instead of calling EDITOR_PROGRAM directly, what I instea did was the following:
1) Created a RFC enabled Function module.
2) Inside this function module, I wrote the following code:
SUBMIT tpda_editor_start AND RETURN
   WITH prgm = is_alert_det-program_name
   WITH incl = is_alert_det-include_name
   WITH dynp = space
   WITH line = is_alert_det-line_no.
The parameters above were similar to the one proposed by you.
Borrowed the above from the class CL_TPDA_SERVICES_TOOLS, method NAVIGATE_TO_SOURCE.
The above is basically called in the debugger, when we use the context menu in the editor tool and invoke the "Goto Source Code" functionality. This eventually calls the EDITOR_PROGRAM FM.
The reason why I did this is because when I was testing the FM, it did not allow me to specify the include as CL_TEST=====CM01. I do not know why, probably I was doing it wrong. But it gave me a message saying that the object does not exist in table TADIR.
Anyway, I did the above steps and it worked exactly as I wanted it to.

POWL 'Query Name is already open in another session'

Hi there,
Our users are constantly getting the following error message when using POWL's in the Portal.
Query <Name> is already open in another session' (POWL 016)
The error occurs when a user tries to refresh a query and the query is locked in another session (ENQUEUE_EPOWL_QUERY_EDIT Exception foreign_lock).
There are various root causes to why this error happens, system, application, communication etc. The one I am seeking help on occurs when the user abruptly terminates the browser session (forced or unforced) and the orphaned session is unable to close properly leaving the POWL query locked.
We are currently informing the users to
1.) close all windows and reload the worklist.
and in certain circumstances
2.) log off and log on again
The above workaround doesnt always solve the problem. We are reluctant to give users access to SM12.
Has anybody encountered something similar, if so were their specific settings, notes, code etc. which needed to be implemented?

Try the following steps
Please implement the note 1836401 and the prerequisites 1873487,1902580 .
Identify the POWL Query name and set the refresh type as: 'refresh on every LIST VISIT'.
Important: Run the report POWL_D01 and remove the result list of your POWL
Application ID, it#s very important because the cache would still contain the old refresh type and will not recognize the new refresh type, please run the report at first for one user ant test the behaviour, if it works run it for all other user
Pass the application parameter REFRESHA with value X to your POWL application. After that retest your issue, it should work. if not implement the note 1975395 and its prerequisites and test again

If that isn't the case then an extension has changed that behavior.

How to revoke everything from a user when opening a new session.

I am using oracle 10g Express Edition and SQL Developer.
I have 2 user, 2 database connections in my SQL Developer.
First user is Oracle and its database connection is called TCF.
Second user is SMITH and its database connection is called TCF_SMITH.
Oracle user has privileges to do anything.
SMITH user has no privileges except for CREATE SESSION.
What I am trying to achieve is assign a user to a role (this role will have grants to select, insert , update from tables) for the current session (this step is successful), and then revoke
The role from that user (set it back to its default/or revoke everything from it) if opening another session, or session has been terminated (what I am trying to achieve).
From TCF I was able to do the following:
CREATE synonym SMITH.EMP_IOD FOR EMP_IOD;
CREATE ROLE TCF_I;
GRANT SELECT, INSERT, UPDATE ON EMP_IOD TO TCF_I;
GRANT TCF_I TO SMITH;In TCF_SMITH
SMITH has the same privileges as TCF_I.
so, smith now can select, insert , and update from EMP_IOD table.
If I open another TCF_SMITH session, and select * from EMP_IOD I should not be able to see any of the records.
I am trying to make this session base only. Unfortunately when opening another session I am able to select, update and insert records in the new session.
Is there a way to make this session based ?
How can I revoke everything from user SMITH from TCF connection ?

In programming anything can be achieved, but there are speicifc tools to solve specific problems .
I think you are trying to use fork to paint a wall* (If painting the wall indeed is your requirement).
The "need" as you say...
+The need for this is to grant the user different roles each time the user logs in.
for example I can log in 5 different time in one week with different role each time.
Moday I could have access to X,Y,Z,
Tuesday I could have access to X,A,B
Wednesday I could have access to A,B,C.+
... is to solve WHAT PROBLEM?
Please describe your original requirement , not what you think should be the solution/tool to satisfy the requirement.

Avg number of open cursors per session

We've been noticing a large number of open cursors open per session in our database, these users being Oracle Forms users. There are quite a few 'bells & whistles' in this vendor-supplied application with many round trips to the database. The warning we were receiving was induced by an alert that we had set up within OEM.
It got me wondering then, what a large number of cursors per process really was. We're seeing between 10-80 open cursors. The init parm OPEN_CURSORS has a default value of 50 upon installation (which is per session), so the max of 80 doesn't seem too much higher.
Are we really experiencing a large # of open cursors per session? Does someone have a means of estimating the max # of cursors that one would expect based upon CPU & memory resources? I can't find anything in the documentation.

There is an OPEN_CURSORS parameter in the init.ora file,
I want to know the impact of number of open cursors on performance
(ie., how many open cursors would be appropriate for an instance)There shouldn't be a performance issue here. The value needs to be set based on how many open cursors you want to allow simultaneously. If you set the value too low, applications will get the "too many cursors open" error when they try to open a new cursor. If you're not having problems, or if you don't know how many open cursors you're likely to have, I wouldn't change this parameter.

IView BSP open too many sessions

I'm using SAP EP 6.0 NetWeaver 04 and SAP ERP 2005 : ECC 6.0.
I have create a BSP IView in my Portal to access an BSP application in SAP ERP 2005.
When I test it, the IView open too many sessions and then the ICM Server is not available. The server is Overload !!!
How can I configure the IView to open only one session ?
Have you got an idea ?

I am not very familiar with BSP iViews and BSP applications but you describe a problem that sounds quite familiar to me.
We were running a custom application on a SAP EP 6.0 NetWeaver 04. It happend that a short time after a user started to test the application the dispatcher crashed. The crash was caused by too many sessions requested by that single user. We could not explain where the session requests came from and did some investigation.
We observed that the problem occurred only if the user used the MS Internet Explorer 6.0, the request was routed via a certain proxy server (MS ISA Server) and the protocol used was HTTPS.
To analyze the problem try an alternative browser and have a look into your network. Try to route the request differently. Try another protocol.

Is there any way to do a manual session restore if Firefox doesn't open your previous session - and doesn't give you that option?

I've got Firefox configured correctly and it always opens my last session. However, sometimes when the computer crashes and a second Firefox window is open (this time it was either a pop-up window or the Firefox update window), Firefox only recognizes that window as the "last session," and it loses the most recent multi-tab session. (Hmm, maybe what I need is "re-open recent sessionS" or "last multi-tab session" ?!)
Anyway ... is there any way I can retrieve yesterday's open tabs without picking through my history and finding them one-by-one?

The presence of a sessionstore file with a number (sessionstore-1.js) indicates that at one time there has been a problem with accessing sessionstore.js and that Firefox wasn't able to rename sessionstore-1.js to sessionstore.js
You can see by the file date of sessionstore-1.js when that has happened and if it an old file then you can remove it or you can try to copy that file to sessionstore.js to see which session it brings back.
Make a backup copy of all sessionstore.* files elsewhere to be sure that you do not lose a session before doing that.

[fixed] DVD burning problems "Unable to open a new session."

I'm using a blank DVD (Yes, it really is blank. See below.) I tried to burn an iso on it. k3b fails, complaining "Unable to open a new session. Probably a problem with the media." If I use cdrecord, the same thing happens. Changing the burn speed (from the auto 8x to the minimum supported by the drive: 6x) doesn't help. The same thing happened when I ran cdrecord as root, with a priority of -20. (My user is in the optical group anyway.)
I tried burning the same iso to several different blank DVDs. cdrecord and k3b say the same thing for each. I tried burning the same iso to the same/first disc on another computer. It worked.
So what's wrong with this machine?
I have not tried using another DVD drive. I have not tried using a different iso.

If no applications work and no discs work then the drive might be broken. But before you spend money / bug your friends to borrow a disc drive, here's one more simple test:
Boot into a live environment of a "stable" Linux distribution, such as Linux Mint or Puppy Linux or whatever, and try burning a disc.

GPIB Vi's vs. opening a VISA session

I'm currently trying to develop a simple set of drivers for a GPIB device that we have (Stanford Research Systems SR430). I have used the Developer Zone and the guidelines and templates given there. Those templates all open a VISA session to establish communications with the instrument. I have noticed, however, that some of the GPIB vi's can perform the same functions (reading and writing) using just the address of the device rather than creating a VISA session. Is there any difference to these two methods and if so, which is recommended and why?

VISA is much preferred. For one thing, VISA works for not only GPIB instruments but also for serial, vxi, and TCP/IP instruments. It is fairly easy to write a single driver that accomodates more than one interface. I've had to do this several times as we have instruments that were sometimes purchased with one or another interface. Another advantage to VISA is that it supports resource sharing and locking. Multiple applications can open the same resource and locking permits the applications to share the resource in a "graceful" manner.

Generally when creating a Word file from either a Mac or Win7 pc and opening it on two different machines (either one first) it always prompts that the file is open and will be opened as read only. However opening a CSS file does not prompt that it is alr

However opening a CSS file does not prompt that it is already open on or from any machine which is causing code edits to be lost.
What we found from out testing:
- The file can be saved from one user to the server and WILL NOT PROMPT on other machines until the saving machine has the Dreamweaver program closed completely
- The file can be closed and Dreamweaver minimised to the launch bar but it still will not register on other machines that it has been changed.
- Also, until the Dreamweaver program is closed on the machines, it will continue to open it's saved version of the file.
Example Scenario:
- User 1 opens test.css (which is 2000 lines) and adds some code to the end of the file to bring it up to 2500 lines
- Meanwhile User 2 opens test.css as well (opens as 2000 lines as User 1’s edits have not yet been saved) and adds in code to bring it to 2300 lines
- User 1 saves his file and closes it - but Dreamweaver is still open.
- User 2 also saves his file and leaves Dreamweaver open.
- The server will report the size and last edit of the file the same as User 2 as he was the last person to save it (and if you open from the Win7 Machine it will show as User 2’s 2300 line version)
- If User 1 then open's the file again (from either the 'recent' in Dreamweaver OR clicking on the file directly in Finder...which version opens.... The version that User 1 saved! Not the true version on the server, but the version that User 1 edited and saved with 2500 lines in it.
- Same for User 2, he will open 'his' version with 2300 lines in.
Other information:
- Files are opened directly from the server
- Sometimes the users will save incrementally and re-open
- Most of the time users will save incrementally and keep the files open
- The users will never not save incrementally and just save when closing the file once finished
- The users are usually working on the files all day
- It is always the bottom lines of code that are lost. It could be a case of the two versions being mixed up and cutting off the newly added lines based on the line count (possibly).
It is as if Dreamweaver is holding a cache of the version locally and then only properly looking back to the server when it has been completely closed. It is very difficult to see how the server is causing such an impact on these files, there are very few logs which are giving any indication to the root cause of the problems.
Anyone know if this is a known issue?
Is there a way that there can be a featured implemented on the server that doesn't allow another user to open a file if it is already open on another machine?

Your server file handling has nothing, and really nothing to do with Adobe software. If files don't get locked for (over-)writing and/or lose connection to the program opening them, then your server is misconfigured. It's as plain and simple and that. Anything from "known file types"/ file associations not being set correctly, MIME types being botched, crooked user privileges and file permissions, missing Mac server extensions, delayed file writing on the server, generic network timeout issues and what have you. Either way, you have written a longwinded post with no real value since you haven't bothered to provide any proper technical info, most notably about the alleged server. Either way, the only way you can "fix" it is by straightening out your server and network configuration, not some magic switch in Adobe's software.
