Opening a File Attachment

Hi all,
My scenario is as follows:
I have a Adobe Form which will have file attachments. The Form with the attachments will be sent from the SAP R/3 system itself. My work is to open the file which I am unable to do. Those attached files can be seen in the attachments option in the Adobe Reader and can open from there, but I am not able to open through my code. All the attached file's name, id and description are displayed in the table. Upon clicking the file name, the attachment should open. I have wrote the code for opening attachment which is working fine when I attach files in the Adobe Reader using a button click event (just using browse button and importDataObject method). The same code fails when I try to open the file which is received from the R/3 system.
I dont have a clue for what to do to import the file attachment and how can I relate the attachment with the fileID. Any help is of great use to me since I am new to this technology.

Hi,
There is a discussion here: http://forums.adobe.com/message/1360859#1360859 and I have uploaded Paul's solution here: https://acrobat.com/#d=5gQoNybe75bwACDtfBToMA.
This might help you.
If you want the user to be able to attach files to the form, then it would need to be Reader Enabled using LC Reader Extensions, which is part of the server solution. See summary here: http://assure.ly/etkFNU.
Also this example might help: http://assure.ly/vRyoeQ.
Hope that helps,
Niall

Thanks for all (Ocean20 & Courcoul) who replied.
Reset the device did not help me but it does triggers me to attempt to resend the PDF file attachment on email--and it works the 2nd time.  My problem is now solved.
The Adobe Reader is very helpful--it allows me to scroll through the document easily, unlike iBooks, where I cannot scroll straight up or down.

  • Acrobat cannot open the file attachment because your PDF file attachment settings do not allow......

I have an email with an attachment that requires a password the open.  I can open the file but embedded in the attachment is another attachment.  When I double click attachment I get the following error message.  Acrobat cannot open the file attachment because your PDF file attachment settings do not allow this file type to be opened.

You would need to make a change to your registry; see http://www.adobe.com/devnet-docs/acrobatetk/tools/AppSec/attachments.html
Basically you would need to add the .pdf with the permission 2.
Let us know if you need help with that.  Either way, make sure to create a System Restore Point before editing the registry.

  • Opening Native File Attachment on Blackberry Professional Software

Does anyone know how to set the Blackberry Professional Software to open Native File attachment?
Will there be an update for the software that needs to be done?
    My device info:
    Device: Curve 8330
    Provider: Verizon Wireless
    OS: 4.5
We currently have Documents To Go on the BB device but we can't use it until the BB Professional software is able to support native attachment according to Docs To Go support.
I know the latest BES server support the native attachment but we don't have BES since we only have 3 BB in the office.
We need to be able to open and edit Microsoft file and also PDF but we are not able to do that with the integrated viewer software on the device.
    Any suggestions?
    Please advise.
    Thanks,
    CP

  • I can't open .doc files attached to the mail.

After upgrading to the last version (31.6.00); I cannot open .doc files.
    I use Open Office 4.1.1.
No problem with .xls or .pdf files. But neither the attachments in my sent mails nor the attachments in incoming mails type .doc can be opened by clicking on them. I have to first save to the computer than open the file which takes too much time.
In the attachment you can see the error message.
Here is the translation of the message:
    - Top window: File cannot be saved as an unknown error occured. Please retry.
    - Second window - below filename: Error - source mailbox

Very interesting. It was written for doc type files: "OpenOffice Writer (defined)". (I made a translation maybe it is "default" in English version). Then i make it use another program and choose "Open Office Writer". Now it says OpeOffice Writer but no definer (or default) and it is working. Thank you very much Gnospen.

  • Can not open .wmv file attachment.

I am using an iPad 2 with OS6. I have an email message with an attached .wmv file.  When double taping the file a window opens with a list of 6 different apps to be selected to open the file. Dropbox, Box, Evernote, Printer Pro, Mail, and Good Reader.  EverNote downloaded the file but the file did not open.  Since this is a movie, it should be opened in QuickTime.  Strange.

Install free OPlayer and try again.

  • Opening PDF files attached to e-mails

    Hi there
I experience problems opening pdf attachements to e-mails. I have an error message telling me that the file is damaged and cannot be open.
Nevertheless I can read the exact same attachment from mail on my iPad, I have that problem with my Mac Book Pro only.
I use the Apple Mail software in both cases.
This is recent, no new software installed, and Adobe Reader is up to date on both devices.
Any hint? I'm getting fed up about these Apple specific issues, what a loss of time I've never experienced such things with PCs.
    Eric

Did you find a solution to this issue? I am facing the same problem. It was fine before, suddenly it says that all files are damaged and cannot be opened.
    Thanks so much!
    Krystel

  • Cannot open the file attachment because your PDF file attachment settings do not allow this file type to be opened.

I think this issue may have been posted elsewhere, but I have tried all solutions offered with no success.  I am attempting to open a Link within a secure PDF file when I receive the error above. I have made registry changes and verified the trust manager settings. Is there anything else I can do?

You should be able to check by opening the Attachments panel on the left (paperclip icon) and looking at the file extension.

    Hi Alex,
The trick to this whole thing is to scroll to the bottom of the message. There should be a dashed line at the bottom of the email message with text underneath it that says, "This message was downloaded as plain text." Underneath that it should say (in blue hyperlink text) "Download full message". Select that hyperlink, and the Excel file should download completely. You should then be able to select the document and have it open correctly.
I have had the same concern regardless of file format that is sent, so I do not believe your issue is with file format. Hope this helps.
I've seen the same thing happen with images, which it displays in a corrupted form. It's fixed by downloading the full message.
There's a more serious side effect of this, which I've now seen with several types of files. If one FORWARDS the email to someone else, the attached files it sends them are CORRUPTED and unopenable too. In the case of a Word files I looked at, it had dropped the last two bytes of the file.
The workaround for that is to download the full message before forwarding.
I'm seeing this happening with so many types of attachments that I'm assuming it affects them all. Please everyone report this to Apple feedback (http://www.apple.com/feedback/). It's one thing not being able to open a file on your device, it's another to have files corrupted permanently just by forwarding.

  • I can't open PDF File Attachments

    Hello,
I use the environments Windows 7, MS Office 2010 and Adobe Reader 11.0.09.
In the perferences on the categories Trust Manager I had actived the function: PDF File Attachments: Allow opening of non-PDF file attachments with external application
Now I'm trying in a PDF document to open a Word or Excel file and get the error message: Acrobat can not open the file attachment Because your PDF file attachment setting do not allow this file type to be opened.
And I can just open Word and Excel files.
If I open the PDF file with Adobe Acrobat 11.0.09 then I can do that.
    Someone has a idea.
    Regards
    Erdem

    Hi Aadesh,
I had actived the Trust Manager -> 'Allow opening of non-PDF file attachments with external application'  on Acrobat and Reader 11.0.09.
I can open the non-PDF files with Acrobat but not with Reader.

I had this problem of not being able to open some files a couple of years ago and eventually was able to fix it but i can't remember how. Any help would be grateful.

  • Error in opening pdf file from mail attachment sent thru MII

    Hi,
    I am using MII 12.1.4 build(36).
I have created a pdf file from BLS using PDF actions block and saving the file in web location as mentioned below:
    WEB://<ProjectFolder>/<subfolder>/Report.pdf
I'm using the same file as attachment in my m a i l action block with attachment content type "application/pdf" and AttachmentContent "ImageSaver.EncodedImage" or "PDFDoc.Output".
When i check the mail,i can see the attachment with some size of 8kb,but when I open the file i will get below error:
"Adobe Reader could not open Report.pdf because it is either not supported file type or because the file has been damaged(for example,it was sent as an m a i l attachment and wasn't correctly decoded)"
If I try to open the same file by exporting fit to my desktop,it opened properly.
    Anything I'm missing here?
    Thanks in Advane,

    Hi,
According to below mentioned thread, this problem is fixed in 12.1.5 and above.
Re: Attachment Content When sending PDF attachment in Send Mail Step
Then I deployed the new patch ie SP07.
Here there is one problem,ie in Menu page I can see the 12.1.7(Build40),when I open the workbech,it shows the previous patch 12.1.4(Build 36).Why is it so?
All of my transactions running fine except the one which I have mentioned in my previous post.
When I run the transaction mentioned in my previous post,it threw an excption for PDF Table Action block and the error mentioned below:
[ERROR] Error found trying to execute action 'PDF_Table_0' Exception: [null]
[ERROR] [PDF_Table_0] Action: Runtime threw an exception. Exception: [java.lang.StackOverflowError]
When I can check the m a i l, I'm able to open the attached PDF file without error but without data.Is it because of the above mentioned error?
    Plz help me.
