Opening a Jpeg file

I can't open a jpeg file, i'm receiving error message stating "unable to open file due to  parsing of jpeg" does anyone know what this is?

Sounds like the file maybe corrupted.
Try another program like gimp, Windows paint or other image editor. It maybe more forgiving trying to open it. Then save the file with a new name to make sure the file is rewritten. While your at it save another file as a png and/or tiff. That will save some time if the jpg did not work.

  • Opening a .jpeg-file in a folder with Applescript

I am trying to change the names of .jpeg files into the names of the corresponding music albums in a folder.
As far as my knowledge of Applescript goes, the following script should do the job, but it does not open the .jpeg file, i.e. document 1
    tell application "FileMaker Pro"
      activate
set url_path to cell "bestandspad_cover" of current record
set album_title to cell "album title" of current record & ".jpeg"
    end tell
    tell application "System Events"
                   try
                open url_path
                                  if not (exists url_path) then
                                                 display dialog "not found"
                                  else
                                                 display dialog "path=" & url_path
                     open document 1
--error number -1719 from document 1
set name of document 1 to album_title
display dialog & name of document 1
                     close document 1 saving yes
                                  end if
                   end try
    end tell
I work in an FMP environment, but that should not bother you. I am using the Applescript editor to simulate the actual situation.
I tried 'open', 'get' and 'getURL', to no avail; in my experience Applescript sometimes requires illogical, or say imaginative solutions.
    Do you see one?

    Thanks for thinking with me.
The problem lies not with FMP; hereafter the Applescript in the editor; I left out the displays, but the content is given in the next line.

Here is a registy fix for Win7 machines to the file association problem.
    This from TinusHDCA user:
I installed Photoshop CS6, then found CS5 was still there. I thought, hey, I don't need CS5 anymore, so I uninstalled CS5. then I found out that Photoshop was no longer available in 'Open with' when right-clicking an image...
    So I went into the Registry, HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Applications\Photoshop.exe\shell\open\command, and changed the (Default) from "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS5 (64 Bit)\Photoshop.exe" "%1" to "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS6 (64 Bit)\Photoshop.exe" "%1" (so changed CS5 to CS6) - and now I see 'Adobe Photoshop CS6' in my 'Open with' list when right-clicking an image...

  • Why won't adobe reader open my jpeg files?

why won't adobe reader 11 open my jpeg files?

    Hi Nassman,
Adobe Reader is a read only software for PDF files. JPEG is not a supported format which would open in Adobe Reader. You would need to open Jpeg in application which supports this file format.(e.g. Photoshop, Picture Viewer, MS Paint)
Hope this helps. Let me know if you have any other question.

  • Can only open some JPEG files in Camera Raw through Bridge CS3

I'm running Bridge CS3 version 2.0.0.975. I always edit my JPEG files through Camera Raw in Bridge CS3. I only have to Right-Click on the file and select "Open in Camera Raw...". However, I've come into a situation where some jpg files will not open this way; the option is not even there.
I have made sure to tick the box in preferences under Behavior "Double-Click Edits Camera Raw Settings in Bridge", and also tick the box under Thumbnails -> Performance and File Handling "Prefer Adobe Camera Raw for JPEG and TIFF Files.
These files were originally 16bit Grayscale TIFF files, but I changed them to RGB 8bit JPEG files.
Also, I know the program works because I navigate to an older photo I worked which is a JPEG and the "Open in Camera Raw..." option is there when I Right-Click, but then I navigate back to the image I want to edit, and the option is not there.
Here are links to my screenshots of what I'm talking about. Both images in the last two screenshots are JPEG:
    General Prefs - http://img535.imageshack.us/i/prefgeneral.png/
    Thumbnail Prefs - http://img716.imageshack.us/i/prefthumbnails.png/
    Camera Raw Option - http://img847.imageshack.us/i/option.png/
Camera Raw No Option - http://img852.imageshack.us/i/nooption.png/

    function(){return A.apply(null,[this].concat($A(arguments)))}

That's a fundamental problem right there, and a clue in all this.  You should be able to see JPEGs in the Open As Camera Raw dialog.
What happens if you type in the name?
I'm almost convinced you have a file named .jpg but with a different image format inside.  Can you put one of these files online for others to try to open?

  • Opening web jpeg files by dragging to CS3 Photoshop Dock Icon

    G5/2.0ghz/dual/3gigRAM/OSX5.8/CS3 Suite Extended
In Tiger, why was I able to drag any web image to the dock CS3 icon and it open in CS3 Photoshop immediately, and I am unable to do this in Leopard? I have repaired by DiskUtility and Disk Warrior, repaired permissions (an especially long list each time), lastily reinstalled CS3.
I can save the web image to the desktop. Open Photoshop and find it, then open it, but I cannot drag the web image directly to the CS3 Photoshop dock icon and open the same web image.
I get the message: Photoshop does not recognize this file type.
    John R

No joy, Printer Rick. Thanks for your response.
I saved the jpeg to my desktop. In CS3, File/Open/xxxxx.jpg. Opens perfectly.
From Safari, I drag the same xxxxx.jpg to the dock CS3 icon. CS3 responds "I do not recognize this file"
I click on xxxxx.jpg on my desktop. Command+I, direct OSX58 to open all similar files in CS3 Photoshop.
    Restart the computer.
Go to the same web page, drag the image to the CS3 dock icon, and CS3 doesn't recognize it.
What am I missing from the FAQ, that someone else wants me to look at?
Or was that a lazy suggestion to me?

  • Can I open multiple jpeg files in Adobe Camera Raw ?

Hi, it seems that I cannot do this - not an option in PE11 ??  Such a pity if not !
I can open one JPEG at a time, or multiple Raw images in ACR.
Have checked other sources including Barbara Brundage "The Missing Manual" but whilst it does not
specifically say you cannot, likewise there is no indication that you can.
    Cheers

Many thanks, Barbara.  Must admit I had more or less assumed that was the reason.  Just living in hopes !

  • When trying to open a jpeg file I get a message saying the application preview is not open anymore

In trying to open jpegs to examine, I now receive a message stating "The application preview is not open anymore". I can't see  my images. Whats the problem here. This is a brand new 27inch iMac.

IMHO the free apps are a band aid fix. If the OP uses Office on a regular basis he will need to upgrade anyway. Personally I have used neooffice and found it substandard however that was just my take. I haven't tried Google's solution.
We both forgot to mention the OP could also use Pages and Numbers to open their Word and Excel files. If he uses Entourage then Mail and iCal would be viable substitutes.

  • Unable to open scanned Kaiser Baas jpeg files in Photoshop Elements 6

I have scanned photos and negatives using Kaiser Baas Photo & Negative scanner.  I am unable to open the jpeg files produced using Photoshop Elements 6, any advice on how to?

I don't seem to have any trouble opening the file in pse 6 on windows xp.
I'd reset the pse 6 editor preferences and see if that makes a difference.
Press and hold Shift+Ctrl+Alt just after starting the launch of the pse 6 editor
Keeping holding down the keys until you get a dialog asking if you want to delete the photoshop elements settings file

  • Opening .jpeg files in CS5

When I try to open a .JPEG file in CS5 the image opens ok but it is made up of lots of "small squares & lines" and is almost unrecognisable. Does anyone have any ideas as to how I can get around this issue? I've included an example below. Thanks for any help......

That could be due to corrupted files, or a problem with your video card driver.
Try turning off OpenGL drawing in preferences, close the file and open it again.
If the corruption is still showing, then the problem is in the file.
If the corruption went awa, you have a bug in your display driver -- updating it may solve the problem, or you may need to contact the maker of the card.  But leaving OpenGL drawing off will avoid the problem for the time being.

  • Setting Photoshop CC 2014 as my "Default Program" to open JPEG files in Windows 7

I just installed Photoshop CC 2014 on my Windows 7 computer. I had set Photoshop as my "Default Program" to open up JPEG files. Now whenever I double-click a JPEG file, Photoshop CC will launch instead of Photoshop CC 2014. I have noticed that the executable files for all versions of Photoshop are "Photoshop.exe" (no wonder Windows gets confused). If I changed the name of the executable file for Photoshop CC 2014 to something like "Photoshop2014.exe" then Windows will let me choose the program as my "Default Program" to open up a JPEG, however this makes it impossible for me to open up files in Lightroom. Lightroom will default back to Photoshop CC.
I have changed the name of the executable file for Photoshop CC 2014 back to "Photoshop.exe" and renamed all the executable files for my legacy versions of Photoshop. This still does not work.
Do I need to make some types of change in the registry?
