Opening MSWord files from Bridge

Using Bridge CS6 64bit Windows 7...If I have a folder with an MSWord file it always opened with MSWord...today it only opens with Microsoft Open XML converter and that is marked as the default if I go to open with...how can I change it back to where the default is MSWord instead of Microsoft Open XML converter? I've tried fle associations, preferences etc. to no avail...this only happens in Bridge CS6, I have Bridge CS5.5 and 5.0 and it opens the file with MSWord in those applications.
Thanks

This is all I know about opening Word document in Bridge.  I checked in Tools and in CS5 I see no Contribute then learned that is an Adobe software.  Check out this link.  http://help.adobe.com/en_US/contribute/cs/using/WS5b3ccc516d4fbf351e63e3d1180fba3730-7fe3. html
You can select a file in Adobe Bridge, and open the file in Adobe Contribute.
Start Adobe Bridge.
Select the file you want to open in Contribute.
Note:  You can open only Microsoft Word documents with .doc or .docx extension, and Microsoft Excel documents with .xls, .xlsm, or .xlsx extension.
Select Tools > Contribute > Open In Contribute. Note:  The Tools > Contribute > Open In Contribute menu is available for the Windows platform only.
Contribute is started and the contents of the Word or Excel document are inserted in the web page draft based on the insertion option you selected.
So the way I read this unless you have Adobe Contribute you can not open word documents in Bridge.

  • Can't Open jpeg files from Bridge CS3 to PhotoShop CS3

This is really weird. I had a trial version of CS3 and bridge worked fine. That ran out, so I tried CS2 to see if I could get by with the older version. CS2's bridge worked just fine.
Then I installed a full version copy of CS3 and removed CS2 (to free up space) and for some bizarre reason, I cannot open any files from bridge into Photoshop. It's the CS3 bridge because I clicked on the Help, About Bridge and it showed CS3.
When I just click "open" under file, it tries to open with Illustrator. When I click, "open with" I get this list: Adobe Illustrator CS3 (default), Firefox 2.0, Internet Explorer 6.00, and Paint 5.1.
I can't figure out a way to change the default to CS3, and it worked fine with the trials.
    Please advise.

It was a nice thought. I just did it, and associated all .jpg type files with photoshop, but no such luck in solving issue. I did figure out a way around it that kinda works, but not nearly as convenient. I drag select a group, then hold-click on the group and toggle into Photoshop, then let go. It pastes the group there. However, if I control click to select a group (or deselect within a group), I can't hold-click. So I have to do smaller groups at a time if I want to bypass certain pictures that get grabbed in a bigger group--does that make any sense at all?

  • Can't Open ACR files from Bridge in Photoshop CC 2014

I Can't Open ACR files from Bridge in Photoshop CC 2014.  I have uninstalled the programs, and all other versions of PS several times, but no matter what I do, I can't open a raw file I have opened in Bridge, in PS CC 2014. I have to click Open in Photoshop CC 2014 in Bridge.
Also, on my workstation PC (Win 7 64bit), if I don't open PS prior to opening Bridge, then when I try to open a file from bridge it says it can't run PS on an earlier Operating system than Win 7!
I have done exactly the same instalation on my notebook, same OS, and everything works perfectly - I just don't understand.

Guys! This question was asked almost two months ago, and still no-one has replied? I'm still stuck, no matter what I have tried, I cannot find a solution. And please don't ask me to re-install AGAIN, I've done this several times and it simply does not work.

  • Problem opening Illustrator files from Bridge

I recently installed cs5.5 and can no longer open my Illustrator files from within Bridge.  When I double click on the file in Bridge, it switches to Illustrator and the hour glass appears for about 5-10 seconds before switching back to the selector tool, but the file never opens???  The only way I can open Illustrator files now, is to do the File>Open command within Illustrator.
I'm hesitant to reinstall CS5.5 because it took so long the first time.
    Any suggestions??
    Thanks
    Paul

It only seems to affect ai files.  I am able to open psd files from Bridge.
I just discovered that I am also unable to "place" ai files in InDesign.  The same thing happens - I go to File>Place, find the ai file, double click the ai file, the hour glass appears for a brief moment then disappears, but the file doesn't get placed.
    Thanks for any suggestions.

  • Open .ico files from Bridge CS4

    Hey all,
I just got done reformatting my hard drive. After reinstalling my Adobe CS4 software, I can't open .ico files from Bridge -- before the hard drive reformat I COULD open .ico files from Bridge. I can open .ico files directly from Photoshop (I've got the telegraphics.com/au .ico plugin installed in Photoshop to open and save .ico files.)
If I right-click an .ico file in Bridge and select "Open With" the only option is: COM Surrogate 6.1 (default).
Looking at Preferences > File Type Associations, .ico file type isn't available in the file type list. Anyone know what setting or preference I need to change to open .ico files in Bridge?
    Appreciate your help,
    Brian

Never mind... I closed Bridge by selecting File > Exit (instead of clicking the close button in the upper-right of the program window) and after restarting I'm able to open the .ico files.

  • Can't open psd files from Bridge CS6

Had both CS4 and CS6 installed, CS4 Bridge added itself when I wanted just CS6 Bridge, so uninstalled CS4.  Now cannot open psd files from SC6 Bridge.  What do I do?.

What is Bridge doing when you try to open the PSD file?  Do you get a warning, does nothing happen?  Did you open the preferences in CS6 bridge and set the file opening preferences to make sure they are set to PS CS6?

  • Open PSD files from Bridge to Photoshop CS6

In previous version I can open psd files to Photoshop with double clicks. Now it open to QuickTime only. How can I go back to the the old way? And I don't want to "place" the file to smart objerct either.
    Please help.

    Hi,
In Bridge cs6 look under the Bridge preferences (Ctrl+K or Cmd+K) and then under File Type Associations, where you can choose the applications to open files from bridge.

  • Can't open INDD files from Bridge or Windows Explorer

I upgraded from CS2 to CS4 in Jan 2009, but didn't uninstall CS2 until yesterday because the program file sizes seemed weird: CS4 was listed as less than 6Mb in the Add/Remove Programs list, while CS2 was shown to be many times that size (gigabytes?). I called support within the first month and was told it would be okay to uninstall CS2, but the tech could not explain the difference in program sizes, so I left it in place until yesterday. Now, neither Bridge nor Windows Explorer recognizes InDesign files. I can still launch the program from the Start menu and Desktop shortcut, and I can open files from within the program. But Bridge says the default  for opening an INDD file is Acrobat...or Photoshop, Firefox or IE. Windows says the same. The INDD icon is no longer displayed in Windows Explorer either. It seems to have vanished from my system. I have tried to re-associate InDesign files with the program through Windows Explorer numerous times to no avail. Operating System: Windows XP Professional on a Dell GX270.
Is the only solution here to uninstall & reinstall InDesign? Any comments or suggestions are appreciated.

    Hi,
I'm having the same problem, with two exceptions:
    1. A previous version of InDesign has never been installed on this PC before we got CS4.
    2. It tries to open the files in Acrobat (7.0), and then this message pops up:
Acrobat could not open "....INDD" because it is either not a supported file type or because it has been damaged...  To create a PDF document go to the ...
This is incredibly frustrating.  The only way I can open files is to go through the InDesign "open file" command inside the program.  I cannot open any Bridge files at all (same problem, opens in Acrobat).
I cannot chose the file type from the file association list as it does not show up on the list no matter how many times I search and choose it from my drive to associate.
... Is this a registry problem, maybe?

  • ACR 4.4.1 does not open TIF file from bridge (CS3)

    Hi,
I have the preferences in CS3-Bridge and ACR set to open JPG & TIF files in ACR and not CS3 but when I click on a TIF file in bridge it opens in PS CS3 instead. These TIF files were generated by a GUI interface for ENFUSE which is an algorythm that combines bracketed RAW or JPG exposures for expanded dynamic range... it works very well ad outputs to TIF... but I can't seem to open these TIFs in ACR. Isn't a TIF a TIF?
Is there a way to force ACR to open these?

There are many varieties of TIF files (including b/w fax images).
I have no idea if this will work, but you could try opening one of the files in Photoshop, saving as a TIF from Photoshop, and then see if that new TIF file will open in ACR. At least it should let you know of opening of TIF/JPG files in Camera Raw is working correctly.

  • Premature Opening of Files From Bridge

Lately, I am seeing Bridge go ahead and open a file, either into ACR or Photoshop directly, depending on the extension, on a single click. I click once and instead of just opening the image in the Bridge Viewer, it starts PS (if it hasn't been started) and displays it there. It's random and very annoying to say the least.
I don't see this behavior anywhere else but Bridge.
The first time I saw it I thought it was a bad mouse microswitch, but really, the hardware should have an exclusion period where another click from the mouse is ignored, in the order of milliseconds, to prevent false triggers on the contact closure. I switched to a different mouse and the behavior continues. I lengthened the time span which enables the double click function and that didn't make a difference. It is so long right now that the Nik plug-in doesn't see my double click at all until I wait a bit longer before double clicking, which is also a pain. Reset Prefs is not an answer. I have reset prefs in PS for unrelated reasons so I know that it isn't a factor as the error continues.
So the mice I have tried includes the MS 8000, and a Logitech, model # 310. Both are wireless.
Also, checking or unchecking the box labeled "Double Click Edits Camera Raw Settings in Bridge" does nothing. What is supposed to happen? It is unchecked, as well as the Ctrl Click box.
Resetting the wireless channel doesn't do it and the transceiver is quite close to the mouse.
FAPP, it seems unique to Bridge.

Thanks, Br. I've already checked it out there. Good stuff.
I'm running now on a wired mouse and old one from my Win 2000 days, and while slow, I don't seem to be having these problems. I am getting more suspicious of the wireless regime, as the Logitech wireless is now acting up again, like while selecting a line of type to copy, it suddenly disappears or jumps full paragraph, again like multiple clicking.
One thing that's different here is that I now use a router (Cisco) that has wireless capability. I still have the computers linked by cable, but I see that the wireless is running anyway. If I can shut down that feature, I can check to see if it's a factor.
Finally, different programs, apps and browsers exhibit different characteristics as to any faults. The cleanest so far is Open Office, with no particular problems in about 1/2hr of heavy mousing around. It didn't fail once.
If this old wired mouse continues ok, I'll order another one for my own use, as my SO is screaming: Where's my mouse!,  the cat's ears perk up, looking around suspiciously....

  • File Type Association fails when opening multiple files from Bridge to Premiere

I'm running Vista 32 bit CS3 Bridge and Premiere.
    According to the Video workshop
    http://www.adobe.com/designcenter-archive/video_workshop/
under Premiere > all 19 topics > Managing Media in Adobe Premiere Pro > at 02:46 it shows group selecting a bunch of quicktime files using Edit > Select all, then File > Open With ...the drop down shows Premiere.
Mine only show Premiere if a single file is selected. If I multiple select, it only shows Quicktime Player 7.6.
I've checked the file type association in preferences of Bridge to open these files in Premiere but it still only sees Premiere if a single file is selected.
I've upgraded Bridge to 2.1.1.9 and set to run as Administrator but to no avail.
    Any ideas?

Import has always worked fine. this is not the issue.
I have now changed the file association in Vista, re-started Premiere and Bridge and then after having started just Premiere chose File > Browse and the selected all the .mov files and selected Open With. Hurrah! Premiere is now listed!
However, If I continue the focus changes to Premiere but a warning appears "This file path does not exist on disk at this location".
Nothing is imported. Unlike the video workshop mentioned above.
If however, I chose Open and not Open with then the files are imported.
Seems to be a bug with Open with with more than one file chosen. If a single file is chosen and Open With is applied then the focus changes to Premiere but no file is imported.
I have seen the exact same problem in another discusion "Re: Bridge CS3: Not importing clips into Premiere CS3" (see the More Like This panel on the rightside of this window)

  • Bridge & Photoshop CS5, opening Photoshop files from Bridge

If I open Bridge in Photoshop CS5, & double click on a jpeg thumbnail in Bridge, it will not automatically open the file in Photoshop. Why?
How can I change my settings so that the files selected in Bridge will automatically open in Photoshop when double clicked?

Hi, when you go to Bridge/Preferences/file Type Associations, & you see the box with a list of file formats in bold on the left, you will see a program name or the word 'None' next to each one, & an arrow to click on, to the right of each one.
If you have 'None' written there, it means it hasn't got a program allocated to it, or it may have some other program written there instead.
What you need is to see Adobe Photoshop CS5 in the list on the right, next to every file format that you use.
You could try clicking on the Reset to Default button at the bottom of the box to see if it brings up Adobe Photoshop CS5 automatically.
If it doesn't, or brings up other programs instead, click on each of the arrows on the right inside the box, then hit 'Browse'', then look on your hard disk for the program file for CS5, & select the actual application set up file 'Set-up.exe''.
    That's what worked for me.
    Good luck!

  • Opening a file from bridge

How do I set the preference to have Bridge open files automitically
    into CS5 when I double-click on it?

    Basically what program opens
the file is set in edit/preferences/ file type associations.  Scroll down the list and set the default to CS5
    for the appropriate file.
