Opening PDF in iBooks from HTMLResources

Hi -
I am currently embedding several PDF reports in the HTMLResources.zip file so that users can open the PDF from within the app. However, some have expressed interested in saving these reports to iBooks. Is it possible to open an embedded PDF file in iBooks?
Thanks,
Paul

No.

  • Openening pdf in iBooks from within Safari

    After installing IOS5, I am not able anymore to open a pdf-file, which I opened in the Safari webbrowser,
    in IBooks.
    In IOS4 I used this a lot, but this does not seem to work anymore!
    Anybody having the same trouble?
    And even better: anybody having a solution to this?

    I have found and tested 2 workarounds for this problem:
    1)
    Send the pdf as an attachment to an email to yourself.
    From within the email app on the iPad2 you can then point to this pdf in the received email,
    and open it within iBooks ! (as should have also possible from within Safari ... )
    2)
    Another, even better workaround:
    - install Opera Mini webbrowser on the iPad
    - copy URL of the pdf to URL-field of Opera Mini webbrowser
      (for example: arxiv.org/pdf/1110.2260v1)
      and click "GO"
    - this loads the requested pdf IN THE SAFARI WEBBROWSER (!!),
      but with a different URL,
      in this example with the URL
      http://global-4-lvs-turing.opera-mini.net/hz47-01/24015/0/-1/arxiv.org/1110.pdf
    - Now you open the pdf in iBooks from within Safari as usual !!
    Hope this helps, although I would like a better solution,
    such that the original functionality of openening documents in iBooks from within Safari is restored !
    Jan Bours
    - installeer Opera Mini (webbrowser)
       http://global-4-lvs-turing.opera-mini.net/hz47-01/24015/0/-1/arxiv.org/1110.pdf
    - aantikken van het scherm geeft rechtboven in scherm zoals altijd
       de mogelijkheden "Open in iBooks", of "Open Met ...",
       die allebei inderdaad de pdf in iBooks kunnen openen !!!!!

  • Can't open PDF email attachments from mail app. (iOS7, iPad2)

    Since upgrading to iOS7 I cannot open PDF email attachments from the "Mail" app. The attachment appears as a "tap to download" icon, after downloading it appears as an image of the first page of the PDF. An extended press of the PDF image results in "save image" and "copy" options, but no "open in" option.
    I have tried closing and re-opening mail, restarting the iPad, several different attachments. Still no "Open in" option.
    Any help with this?

    I work in a support organization and we've seen variations of this issue develop on various iphones and ipads with ios7.  Oddly, not everyone is experiencing this, just some people.
    In my own case, I simply downloaded Acrobat Reader for free and can read the things fine.
    We use an exchange activesync email server and when each email comes in it indicates at the very bottom that it has been downloaded as plain text and to click to download the entire message.  I've tried clicking to download and not clicking and I can read the PDF either way.
    In my own case I can view PDF files and/or also save them by pressing and holding the icon of the PDF in the email.
    The other thing one of our end users noticed: if she emailed the PDF directly to her iPhone5 and iPad it would not be readable but if she forwarded it to her offsite Yahoo account and then forward to her corporate email it would open.
    I think there's definetely something going on with the formatting of the PDF (was it created by a true Adobe PDF distiller or one of the many clones?), what email application attached it? (Outlook, Eudora, IOS Mail, etc) and how many PDF reading apps are on your IOS devices?
    For instance I have the default PDF reader, iBooks, Kindle, Adobe Acrobat Reader, and there may be others that I don't even know has PDF capability.   Only Apple probably has a good idea of how many apps utilize this.

    Hi Eidda,
    This may because the attachment is a winmail.dat file. I would recommend taking a look at the article below for more information. Note: the article is written for OS X mail, but does also apply to this situation.

  • Issue with opening PDF file link from Safari

    Hi Everyone,
    I got a problem with opening PDF file link from Safari 4.04. Instead of getting a normal pdf content, it shows some weird characters. Not sure it is something wrong with Adobe Reader Plugin or Safari?
    I have uploaded a screenshot of the issue in the adobe forum (http://forums.adobe.com/thread/531870). Please help!
    Many Thanks,
    John

    There's nothing wrong, except the fact that you have Adobe Reader installed. You don't need it, so get rid of it; it will only cause problems with Safari. What you're seeing is the contents of the PDF file, rather than having it displayed.
    If you want to download a PDF file, you can either Control-click on the link and choose "Download Linked File As…", or you can Option-click on the link for the file and it will be downloaded to your Download folder (usually your Desktop).
    If you want to view a PDF file in Safari, you don't need Adobe Reader; Safari is perfectly capable of doing this by itself and has been for years. Adobe Reader will only get in the way and slow everything down.

  • How do I open pdfs in iBook and not Adobe reader? (OS X Mavericks)

    On iOS devices, I can save and read pdfs in iBooks. How do I do it in the new application for OS X Mavericks?

    Hello there, FootballTechGeek.
    The following Knowledge Base article shows how this can be done:
    OS X Mountain Lion: Choose an app to open a document
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH11329
    Particularly:
    Permanently change the document’s app
    Select the document and choose File > Get Info.
    In the Info window, click the triangle next to “Open with” to expand the section.
    Choose an app from the pop-up menu, or choose Other to locate a different app.
    If you want to use that app to open all documents of the same type as the current document and created by the same app, click Change All.
    Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities.
    Cheers,
    Pedro.

  • Opening PDF in iBooks

    Ever since downloading and using Dropbox app on iPad and iPhone 4S, I can no longer open a pdf file from safari or email attachment  and read a PDF in iBooks. My only options to open in are Dropbox and Go Daddy apps. I can't figure out how to return iBooks as one of the <open> options.

    I actually did change my settings so that iBooks is the default application for opening PDFs and it was visible in iBooks, but still opened in Adobe Reader. This was the main change to the system  update I was really looking foward to, so I'm quite disappointed.

  • Error while opening PDF file downloaded  from database Blob column

    Hi All,
    I am working on jdev 11.1.1.4.0.
    In my use-case I am using filedownload Actionlistner on a link to get the PDF file stored in the database in blob field. These files are being uploaded from other use-case in adf only.
    After getting the dialog box to open/save/cancel for the PDF file when i click on open then i am getting an error *'Adobe Reader could not open 'abc.pdf' because it is either not a supported file type*
    or because the file has been damaged (for example, it was sent as an email attachment and wasn't correctly docoded)' for some files , and to my surprise I am able to open some files.
    When I open these PDF files separately from desktop I am able to view the content of each and every file in adobe reader.
    I dont know where the problem exactly lies , while uploading/downloading the file . Any ideas/thoughts to resolve this issue?
    Thanks
    Kanika

    Thanks a lot Timo...!!!
    I checked the PDF file downloaded directly from the blob column in DB, there only it is corrupted so must be the problem in uploading the file. I am checking the code line by line,, but no problem in setting the file content type,size etc.
    Here is the code snippet ..
    byte[] buff;
    buff = new byte[(int)length]; -- Length is the file size
    int bytesRead = is.read(buff);
    for (int i = 0; bytesRead < buff.length; i++) {
    // int b = is.read();
    int b = is.read();
    if (b == -1)
    break;
    buff[i] = (byte)b;
    BlobDomain blobDomian = new BlobDomain((buff));
    TestVORow = (TestVORow Impl)TestVO.createRow();
    if(blobDomian != null) {
    TestVORow.setAttachment(blobDomian);
    am.getTransaction().commit();
    This seems to be Ok to me..the same issue, file is still corrupting.
    Any thoughts from your side ???
    Thanks
    Kanika
    The problem is resolved.
    Changes made are instead of
    InputStream is;
    used ... BufferedInputStream bis ;
    and after
    for (int i = 0; bytesRead < buff.length; i++) {
    // int b = bis.read();
    int b = bis.read();
    if (b == -1)
    break;
    buff[i] = (byte)b;
    bis.close(); // use this close bufferedInput Stream.
    Able to open each and every file now..Thanks for your suggestions Timo and Frank.

  • HT204365 Unable to 'open' PDFs in iBooks

    Advice needed.
    When opening documents my iPad used to give me the option of 'open in iBooks' or in safari. Now it only lets me open in notability. I have not changed any settings so I can only assume this has happened since an update. I do not want to use notability for opening PDFs because I can't be doing with the hassle of converting it and then having a dropbox account.
    Does anyone know how to change back so I can use iBooks again?

    I have the same problem. I used to download the local newspaper and save it in iBooks in order  to read it at my leisure when wifi is not available. However ever since I downloaded ios7 I am unable to save any PDFs in iBooks.
    Is there anyone who can help with this problem pls?

  • I am unable to open PDF files created from another PGM.

    Is there an ADOBE pgm that will properly read in PDF files created from another pgm and convert them to ADOBE PDF so they do not error when they are opened to be viewed by ADOBE pgm?

    There is no way to know all the different scan/fax/pdf printers that are used to make the original PDFs...
    CAD-KAS PDF Editor 2.6 is used to edit the files
    doPDF 5 is used to modify pdf file.
    Interesting, I can use the free CAD-KAS PDF reader to open & read the PDF file that the ADOBE XI reader
    gives me the above error message.

  • I have a problem with opening PDF files downloaded from anywhere!

    I can view them ok in Safari, but when I save and download them, they are displayed with the Preview image and will not open.
    When I click them, a message says that 'the file may be damaged or not recognised by Preview'.
    I have cleaned up my computer (apple help ) but still, the problem remains. I downloaded the same file to my MacBook pro, and it saved it in the usual PDF format, (completely different image from above), and opened perfectly well.
    I have checked the settings in Preview and they seem to be set correctly so that Preview will open PDF files.
    What next?
    I am desperate!
    Jennifer

    See if you can delete any Adobe PDF plugins from /Library/Internet Plug-Ins/. Then quit and re-open your web browser and try again.

  • Unable to open pdfs after downgrade from PS  CC 2014

    Greetings.
    Our office has several seats of Creative Cloud, and our workstations are all Macs.
    When InDesign and Photoshop upgrades to version 2014 were released, I installed them on our computers; only to discover that the upgrade is not compatible with OS X 10.6, so I had to downgrade - InDesign docs created in 2014 are not readable by InDesign CC.
    Anyway, since then, I have one user who has followed the same procedure for some time, to create a pdf, which is as follows:
    - Open an AutoCAD dwg file in AutoCAD (in Windows), and save as a PDF 'Drawing 1.pdf'
    - Open PDF 'Drawing1.pdf' in Photoshop CC (in OS X 10.8.5)
    - Add Layers, and add information (colouring in)
    - Save PDF as a new PDF 'Drawing 2.pdf', saving the created Layers.
    - Open PDF in Adobe Reader to print the PDF.
    This used to work fine, however now the PDFs that have been modified will not open - claiming they are corrupt either with the error message: 'This is not a valid Portable Document File (PDF) document. It cannot be opened.' or 'Adobe Reader could not open 'Drawing2.pdf' because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged (for example, it was sent as an email attachment and wasn't correctly decoded).'
    Of course this means that all the work done has been lost, as the file was closed after saving.
    I am not sure if the downgrade is the cause, but this is the only thing that has changed since the issue appeared.
    The user has an iMac running 10.8.5.
    Any help with this would be appreciated!
    Cheers,
    m

    Hi MBP User,
    Are you still facing this issue?
    Have you tried to uninstall and reinstall. Is this issue reproducible on other machines, if you have around you.

  • Can not open pdf in iBook

    I download the User manual for iPad2 and it apaers in iBook/pdf library but I can not open it again in iBook.

    Quit iBooks and restart the iPad. See if the pdf will open then.
    In order to quit or close apps - Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Quit/close open apps by double tapping the home button and the task bar will appear with all of you recent/open apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner to close the apps. Restart the iPad. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
    If it still won't open, delete it and download it again. From the bookshelf view - Tap the edit button - tap on the pdf to select it - and then tap the delete button in the upper left corner.
