Opening RAW thumbnails in elements 9 Organizer

Any ideas on how I can open RAW thumbnails imported from my canon 5D Mark 11 in the Organizer.

PSE9 usually ships with ACR 6.2 as does the boxed product so you should be able to see your thumbnails in Organizer.
Use Click+Shift or ctrl+click to select images - them click Fix >>Full Photo Edit.
The images will automatically open in Camera Raw.
Click open to send them for further editing in PSE or click Done to save them.

Hi Have tried to do that but get a box with message along top "The file aready exists in the catalog" it is also showing the incorrect file path and saying not connected to the path I have found the photo in. The only differenct is that elements it saying it is in E drive and I have it in C drive the rest of the path is the same.
The photos have imported into the my folders but I can't open any, every one i've tried to open brings up the box "searching for missing file" There are no photos in E drive the path it is saying doesn't exist all photos are in c drive, very very frustrating

I can't open raw files in elements 10 from my new compact canon G15 camera on my Mac OS X version 10.8.3. the message says it's unable to open this file type. Raw files do open ok from my 50D. Can anybody please help me? I purchased this version of elements 10 from apple online so have no disk to reload from.

Every camera model has its own raw format and the camera raw plugin has to be updated to work with new cameras as they appear. PSE 10 can't use any version of camera raw 7, the current version--it's too different to be compatible with it, so you would need to update PSE to be able to use 7.3. It doesn't have anything to do with mac or windows in this case. It's the same situation for either.
However, if you are considering updating you should know that there is a problem with the App Store version of PSE 11. It comes with 7.2 for some obscure reason, and the app store rules don't allow updating anywhere but from via the app store itself, which means adobe would have to submit an updated version of PSE every time there's an ACR update, something that so far they have not done, so if you do decide to update, don't buy from the App Store.

The 650D wasn’t supported until ACR 7.2 that was released the beginning of October 2012.
Adobe only updates ACR for their current version of Elements, which is PSE 11, not 10.
So you’ll either need to update to PSE11 or use the DNG Converter 7.2 to convert your CR2 files to DNGs and open them in the older version of ACR.

Another alternative would be to get Photoshop Lightroom which doesn’t cost a lot more than Elements and will give you more raw processing capabilities, and you’ll still be able to do Edit in Photoshop Elements for any pixel editing with your older version of Elements:

i'm using a Nikon D3300 and can't open RAW photos on elements 10 using windows XP. none of the plugins i've tried worked.
please help. i really don't want to have to buy a new version of elements or a new computer.

Unfortunately the Nikon D3300 requires camera raw 8.4 which is not compatible with PSE 10.
Even worse, the DNG Converter 8.4 will not run on a XP or Vista comtuter.
I don't know if the software that came with the D3300 will run on the XP system but if it does, your only option would be to use it to convert the NEF files to TIF files and then PSE 10 will be able to use the TIF files.
I think that you really need to think about upgrading your system sooner than later.

How to display video thumbnails in Elements Organizer 8?

I have a basic problem with Elements Organizer 8 and I'm really hoping someone can help me...
I'm running 64-bit Windows 7 Ultimate on an Alienware Dimension AURORA_ALX (i7 975 @ 3.33Ghz) with 9Gb RAM. I've installed Photoshop Elements 8 and Premiere Elements 8. I've then transferred video clips from my Sony HDR-SR12E and now want to manage them effectively using Premiere Elements 8. The problem I'm having is that Elements Organizer 8 isn't showing any thumbnails for the video clips I've imported (I don't have the same problem with photo files - the thumbnails for these display correctly). Windows 7 has no difficulty with showing the thumbnails when I open the folder containing the video clips, so this appears to be an issue with the Adobe software I'm using.
I've looked through the manual and other online resources - no joy.
I've attached a file (Capture.jpg) that hopefully illustrates my problem.
Can anyone help?

Also, based on the decent hardware specs I listed above, should I be expecting my computer to chomp through the auto-analyse stage? I know it's AVCHD footage but the process still seems to take forever.

Can you confirm which Camera Raw PSE 12 is actually using by loading the editor and going to Help -> About Plug-in -> Camera Raw.
If you do Help -> Updates it may install the latest camera raw of 8.4 - not on XP or Vista systems.
Do you use any Nikon software to download the images? The older versions have been known to corrupt the files.

I have a new Canon T5i and have updated Camera Raw to 6.7 in Elements 10 but I still can't open raw files in the Editor. My OS is Safari 6.0. What can I do?

You can either:
- upgrade to PSE11 and automatically update the ACR module to version 7.4 in the help menu
- use the free DNG converter (download link in the above links) to batch convert whole folders to the DNG format which PSE10 can read
- use the Canon software supplied with your camera to convert to tiff and open them in the editor.

opens and I get a program error as reason. What do I do

If the error is wrong file type then you probably need to update to the newest version of camera raw.
In the pse 9 editor go to Help>Updates and that should download and install the
newest camera raw plugin.

Bridge opens Raw thumbnails but not Preview?

In Bridge I can open Raw files from my Canon 6D as thumbnails but not as the large Preview. The files will open in Camera Raw 8.1 with no problem. I have Photoshop CS6 13.0, and Bridge 5.0.0.399. I am on a Mac Pro OS 10.8.4
What can I do?

Went to Downloads, then to Product updates and there I found updates for all Adobe products; clicked on Bridge for Macintosh and downloaded 5.0.2.4; then clicked on Photoshop for Mac and downloaded CS6 version 13.0.4 (didn't have 13.1??). Everything is working properly now. And I have learned how to find updates at Adobe! Thanks again.

The 8.4 dng converter won't work on windows xp, but will on windows 7.
The newest version of the dng converter that works on windows xp is 8.3

The D810 requires camera raw 8.6 which currently is not available for Photoshop elements.
You could download and install the free Adobe DNG converter and use that to convert the NEF files to DNG files which can then be processed by Photoshop elements.

Open RAW (.NEF) in Elements from Lightroom

I am using Lightroom 3.3 and Elements 8. I shoot everything in RAW. I have imported thousands of RAW files into Lightroom (using the copy command during import) and can no longer open them directly in Elements. When I edit in Elements from within Lightroom, I could only get it open in TIFF. I changed preferences and now get PSD. Either way, I can only get limited options. For example, I can not do anything with layers; I can only save in a few formats and JPEG is not one of them. I love elements and have several add-ins that I use regularly. If I try and open one of the RAW files from within Elements I get an error message "Cannot open 'file' because it is the wrong type of file." Are the two programs not compatible? And why is LIghtroom changing a .NEF file so I can't edit it any more in Elements?

I think, nowadays nobody really considers PSD as an advantage over TIFF, since TIFF now can hold all the details like layers etc.
The discussion about whether to use Raw or DNG is a different topic, which has been discussed lengthy in other threads. There are advantages and disadvantages for both, but it does not affect what happens when you edit in PSE anyway.
And yes, you will have all the "correction properties" of a Raw in a DNG (which is a Raw also). What you loose (if you don't embed the proprietary Raw into the DNG) when converting to DNG is some proprietary information contained in the Raw, like focus points used.

When I right click on a raw file in Bridge there is no selection in the context menu under 'Open With' for Elements. I'm using PSE 8 on a MacBook Pro and these are raw files from a Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX3 camera. Has anyone encountered this?

Yes, the thumbnail is there and I have the latest versions. If I double click on it my picture opens in Photomatix Pro, not Essentials. Like I said if I right click on it and select "Open With..." Essentials should be listed and it's not. JPG's open with Essentials. In fact if I right click on the jpg and select "Open With..." it shows Essentials as the default and a list of other programs.
