Opening *.webloc files in Firefox on Windows

when will Firefox on Windows support saved *. webloc files from Firefox on Mac?
This is ridiculous :/

Thank you for your reply.
I i can drag & drop a website from Firefox on Mac onto my desktop and reopen it in Firefox in Mac AND Safari Browser, why i cannot open them in Firefox on Windows.
I can drag and drop URLs from Firefox on Windows and reopen them
So what's so wrong about adding support for these kinda files making them work vice versa?
I'm working this way because it's easier and faster and more organized for many reasons when exchaning URLs.
Reason 1.: (keep things organized and in focus)
If i send somone many many web documents (research), there is much more information at first sight, rather than copy pasting the URLs itself plus having to add a description to every URL.
For example this particular page here where we are on it describes itself in the web document name:
''' opening .webloc files in Firefox on Windows Firefox Support Forum Firefox Support'''
read it > double klick > open in browser tab > done
or else
'''https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/questions/761091'''
if converted to text only (e-mail, etc.) then i have to > mark url > copy/paste > add in browser.
Understandable?
But, hey, there is no reason for a reason because there are so many reasons. Fact is that a file which was created from Firefox should work Cross Plattform.
Or du you think i will stay with the external "webloc2url" Perl Script Application forever dragging webloc files from FF on Mac one by one?
If there is a single person who can write a Perl Script application converting/re-writing webloc files to correct URLs and open them without the hassle, why a company like mozilla can't do implement the code into FF?
Go and Google all the complaints about webloc files from Mac.

  • Opening .NEF files in PS3 on Windows XP

I cannot open my .NEF images in my PS3 that I took on my Nikon D7000.  I am trying to convert them to .jpeg and I have tried to open them in Bridge and I have also tried to convert them to .jpeg through tutorials I have found telling me to use the image processor tool in Photoshop.  I cannot even see/view the images in Bridge and when I go to convert them to .jpeg, it tells me it cannot be done.  I am new with shooting in raw and I have always shot in .jpeg, so this is all so new to me.  I am not sure if all of my programs are way too outdated to be able to do this, including my operating system (Windows XP).  Shouldn't it be possible for me to open these images and convert them to jpegs?  Is there an update I need to download, or something, to make this work?  PLEASE HELP!

  • Open .webloc files in Windows

I was suffering on getting .webloc files open on my Windows PC.
I found a thread http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=7244343 but it was archived, so I couldn't reply no longer to it, but I noticed that it was never solved. Since I didn't find any solution on how to get this fixed, I decided to develop my own little utility to help this problem out of the world...
For those who have this issue too, or those who are interested, you can find the small app here: http://www.nostech.be/index.php?m=news&search=webloc

Google is indeed my friend and yes I did a search before posting...I am looking for a way to OPEN .webloc files, not to convert them to .url files. One page suggested installing Safari for Windows but that does not work either, ironically enough.
I am going back and forth between Mac and WinXP all day (testing browser compatibilities) and it would be a blessing to my workflow if I could double-click a .webloc file in Windows to open it in SOMETHING.
The best info I found was here:
    http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]/msg04084.html
This tells me that prior to 10.4, .webloc files stored the URL in the resource fork which required a converter to .url to get them to work in Windows. In 10.4 and 10.5, the .webloc format stores the URL in the data fork and so it should be trivial to open them correctly. Indeed, Firefox and IE display a "page source" style page that shows the URL. Safari for Win breaks.
I would think there is a shareware or freeware program somewhere in the universe that would allow me to, at a minimum, associate it with .webloc file extension in Windows, but I am not familiar with it.
    Any other suggestions?

  • Since I installed Firefox 3.6.3, every time I open Google Notifier, two Firefox browser windows open.

I am running Firefox 3.6.3 on my Mac G5 and my MacBook.
Since I installed Firefox 3.6.3, everytime I open Google Notifier, two Firefox browser windows open. This happens on both of my computers.
This never used to happen before, in the earlier versions.
How do I make it so that only one browser window opens?
    == This happened ==
    Every time Firefox opened
    == I installed Firefox 3.6.3 ==
    == User Agent ==
    Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X 10_4_11; en) AppleWebKit/531.22.7 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0.5 Safari/531.22.7

I got this all screwed up too.
    hmm.. where to start?
3.6 and 4.0 beta - really aren't intended to play well together.
As has been mentioned above, they tend to write over each other.
I managed to get both 3.6.15 and 4.0 beta 12 on the same machine.
But, I had to do it several times.
I got lucky by deleting everything Mozilla, then installing 4.0b12, then 3.6.15 - while making sure that each installed into a separate folder.
I also took care to copy out a couple of BookMark BackUp files - just in case.
My old 3.6# had become so bloated - and, Unstable - for Me, it was time.
The bookmarks were all that I was still interested in.
All the Plugins, Themes, AddOns, etc... had slowed the app to a crawl.
So, I did as complete a wipe of Mozilla bloat code that I could, including profiles.
I then did some registry cleaning.
    Then I installed 4.0b12 and 3.6.15.
I can't open them both at the same time.
If I open 3.6.15 first, then open 4.0b12 - the beta comes up as 3.6.15.
If I open 4.0b12 first, then open 3.6.15 - the 3.6 comes up as the beta.
This has a lot to do with both apps sharing the same default profile.
I hope to drop down to one app in the near future.
So, cobbling multiple profiles in order to diddle side by side apps - isn't worth it at this stage.
For me, I can't open FF 4.0b12 when my virus protection is running. PCTools doesn't like some thing about the way FF4.0 wants to phone home when it opens.
So, I can't commit to the 4.0b12, yet.
3.6.15 was crashing on open too - until I uninstalled the feedback addon. - go figure -.
Also, I can't get the 4.0b12 to start in safe-mode with the PCTools antivirus running.
At the rater they are going, I don't see 3.6.# going away any time soon.

  • Can't open pdf files with firefox

After searching for a certain topic on Google I've tried to open the link with a pdf file, but nothing happens.
I receive an error message as if the Proxy that we use here at the company was refusing the connection, but in fact, I've already configured it correctly. This error started after the last update to Firefox 33.0.2.
I've already tried to change the configurations at Options > Applications > Portable Document Format with the option use Adobe Reader (default) and use Adobe Acrobat (in Firefox), and also installed an Plugin "PDF Viewer", but nothing solved the problem.
Does anyone has the same problem?
    Thanks

    ■ Use '''Tools -> Options -> Applications ->''' <br> then look under content for Adobe Acrobat forms etc;
<br> note a choice of options is usually available
    * see [[Options window - Applications panel]]
Firefox is of course a web browser. <br>Acrobat reader is Adobe's program used to read and display the pfd files on your computer. Other programs may be used instead of Acrobat reader. You would normally have the Acrobat program and the pdf file present on the local computer, often both on the same hard drive, if you were opening individual pdf files directly with Acrobat.
Firefox uses a plugin so that it may use Acrobat to open pdf files and display the results within a firefox window or tab. If you do not have that plugin installed, or it is not enabled firefox may be unsure what to do with the file and offer to save it to whatever your default local download location is, without attempting to open the file in firefox.

macfriedchikkin's reply would make sense to you if you were trying to open a camera, but if you are trying to view streming media from a web site that is a different story. It helps to be very specific about what you are tyring to do on these forums.
I belive you would go into Firefox Preferences menu and tell it  to use VLC as the application to play WMV files. I'm still running Tiger,  however, so I can't tell you if it the latest version works wel that way. The Tiger version doesn't seem to, but a lot may have changed since then. (I'm only just getting around to installing Leopard next week now that there are too may apps I can't run on Tiger. ) Perhaps someone else on this forum can better help you set  up the player in your browser.
Or you can cut out the middleman and give VLC the direct video URL:
Choose Open File from the File menu and paste in the URL of the video, say,
    http://azul.streamguys.com/auduboncal-1
    or http://azul.streamguys.com/auduboncal-2
Your media should play this way. Dont forget to save the playlist for later.
I'l keep investigating on my end, and yes, I'm also  encouraging certain people who are streaming windows media in to switching to a different format

  • When I open .txt files with firefox all underscores disappear. How do I fix this?

I have a list of websites in a .txt file and they all contain underscores. When I open the file with firefox all underscores turn into spaces, so that the links don't actually work.

Can you post a short excerpt of this text file?
Note that you usually need an extension to open links in a text file via a left-click with the mouse.
Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode|Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).
*Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window.

  • Opening image files in their own windows in PS4

Before PS4, I could open image files in their own windows. In PS4, when I want to open more than one file, these open with tabs and any new file I open is added to the tab queue. It is annoying to right click on each tab so each file is in its own window. Is there a universal preference to change this annoying behavior?
Using a Windows environment with Photoshop CS4 Extended.

see the tabs setting in the preferences. you can turn that off.

  • Hyperlink to open a file in a new window

I have been trying to format the hyperlink to a file so it opens on a new window. iWeb allows us to check the box 'open in new window' only for links to external pages; when we insert a link to a file, I realize the app uploads the file to the website, but I could not find a way to have it open in a new window. Is there a way we can get to and format the hyperlink reference?

    1. Create the link that connects to the file (pdf or whatever) on a separate page of your site on iWeb.
    2. Publish your site, then go on the internet to the page that has this link. Keep this page open on your Safari or some web browser you use.
    3. Go back to your iWeb and create another link on a different page (home page, for example) of your site, and connect this link to the URL of the open page in step 2 with "Link to: An External Page" option. Click to choose "Open link in new window" on the Inspector panel. Name this link that has something to do with the file of interest in step 1.
    4. On your iWeb, go the page created in step 1 and make sure "include page in navigation menu" is not selected or checked in the Inspector panel so that web visitor will not get to this page directly.
    5. Publish your site. Now go to your site on the web to the page in step 3. Click on the link and it will open a new page with the link that has the file attached. Visitor can now open the file in that new window.
    • It seems complicated, but you'll get it.
    • You may need to refresh the pages on Safari to make it work if you have left Safari on throughout your work.
    • For this method, you have to dedicate a page to carry the link that connects to the file.
Example: I create a page that has list of links to the files for viewing. These files are weekly reports. Each file is named by its date such "March 4, 2011" "March 11, 2011" etc.. This page will be hidden from visitors at first when they visit my site. Then I create on my home page a link called "Weekly Reports" that open to "External Page" via the option I have in Inspector. Even though it says "External Page" I use the URL of the hidden page containing all the actual files. On this "hidden" page, I also has a link called "Weekly Report" but this link is connected directly to this page. I do this only because I want the "hidden" page to look like my home page in terms of displayed links.

Did you reinstall CS3 after CC?
For that matter, doing an in-place upgrade on the OS is always a gamble with Adobe programs. Reinstalling all the versions you need, in order, would probably solve your problem.
And you shouldn't need to save as IDML after opening the .inx in CC.

  • Why can't I open PDF files in Firefox?

I cannot get PDF files to open for viewing in Firefox. I am on Mac OS platform. This seems to be such an ongoing issue. I have followed the troubleshooting procedures to no avail. I like the look of Firefox better than Chrome, but I am switching over to Chrome because PDF's are so much easier to handle on Chrome, and I am sick of wasting time with this. Any last minute tips or advice?

Disable the Adobe Reader plugin in Firefox (Tools > Add-ons > Plugins) and use the external Adobe Reader application or Preview application instead.
PDF files may be found under entries like Portable document or Adobe PDF document or Adobe Acrobat Document.

You need a PDF add-on for Firefox.
Right now most work with FF 3.6 but haven't been updated yet for FF 4.0 just released
There is one that works with Google Docs
    https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/google-docs-viewer-pdf-doc-doc/
Funny, there is a version of Flash for Linux with 1% market share, but no PDF plug-in for the most second used browser in the world.

  • Cannot open pdf files in Firefox.

I cannot open pdf files in Firefox. (I can in Chrome).
I tried Menu - Preferences - PDF - Use Adobe Acrobat Professional. Also tried the same with PDF Browser Plugin 2.4.4
Clicking on a PDF link just opens a blank page.

When I enter about:preferences#applications <Enter> in the address bar, then for PDF it shows:
pdf File (application/x-download) ... Use Adobe Acrobat Professional
pdf File (application/x-pdf) .... Use Adobe Acrobat Professional
Portable Document Format (PDF) ... Save File'''
I would like all PDF's to open in Adobe Acrobat 8 Professional.
Right now none of the PDF's open at all, so opening in Firefox or any other viewer would be preferred over not showing up at all.
