Optimize your scrubbing?

Optimize your scrubbing?
I have noticed that certain thing that I imports into iMovie '08 srub really well, but others lag. This is what I have noticed so far.
• Really big (like 18 GB .dv files) are quite slow to scrub.
• If I use iSquint to compress the .dv files into an H.264, 640x480, de-interlaced, 1000kb/s movie, then it scrubs much better. Update: I have done this to some other .dv -> H.264 video and it's scrubbing slow.
• If I break up the 18 GB .dv file into smaller 6-10 minute .dv clips, it scrubs much better. This has been consistent so far.
Does anyone know the secret to this or understand what's going on?
Thanks!

Skimming through a video is something REALLY cpu-intensive (at least a 1.9 GHz G5). So I would guess that smaller videos are easily rendered. An hour and half video probably lags the cpu. Another clue that the new iMovie (better to be called iClip) is aimed at editing small clips insted that a 2 hours recording.
I really hope that Apple is reading all this...

  • What does "optimize your internet browser" mean

My hotmail account was hacked and the windows live tech who is helping me said I needed to "optimize your internet browser" and I don't know what this means. Windows live only had instructions for Internet Explorer.

    They probably mean this:
"Clear the Cache": Tools > Options > Advanced > Network > Offline Storage (Cache): "Clear Now"
"Remove the Cookies" from sites causing problems: Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: "Show Cookies"

  • How to optimize your PC for the 0404 USB and 0202 USB

This is a guide on optimizing your system for the 0404 USB and 0202 USB.
Make sure the 0404 USB is using a USB HOST that is on an IRQ alone. This means no other device in the PC can be sharing its IRQ.
If you are running a hyper-threaded CPU, by turning hyperthreading off from the bios. You can set the latency at 20ms or lower and you will usually not have any latency issues.
Change Processor Scheduling to 'Background Services' - Navigate to the Advanced page of the System applet. Click on the Performance Settings button, select its Advanced tab and click on 'Background Services' for Processor Scheduling.
Switch Off Power Schemes - In the Power Options applet, choose the 'Always On' power scheme. Change the settings for monitor and hard disk turn off and System standby to 'Never', so that your PC doesn't unexpectedly conk out during song playback
Disable System Sounds - Select the 'No Sounds' scheme on the Sounds tab of the Sounds and Audio Devices applet.
Make sure legacy USB support is disabled in your BIOS.

    Hi everybody.
This message to share my experience of the 0404 USB under Windows 7.
I previously operated this sound adapter under Windows XP and it was working fine with my pipe organ simulator (Hauptwerk).
When I switched to W7 on a Dell Vostro (professionnal series), sound was muting after exactly one minute . The same with a video on Yutube.....
I did all the adjustments suggested here and there on the web (sampling rate, drivers) , I tried to operate at moonlight, I shot a chicken, etc ...
After many manipulations, I noticed that, if I was doing "something", for instance moving the sound level up and down, the sound was going on ....
The solution was in part at the beginning of the topic "how to optimize your PC for th 0404, etc ....".
    The keyword is "interrruption".
As a matter of fact, the Dell laptop is strongly closed. The BIOS allows no adjustment of nothing.... No way to control interruptions allocation.
BUT!!! I noticed that the two USB 2.0 ports are located very far away from each other. I supposed there would be TWO controlling chips. And I tried the second one. AND IT WORKED!
So the E-MU guy is right, the device must get a free interruption line to operate ....!

  • How can I optimize my hard disk drive usage and performance in Windows 8 or Windows 7?

QuestionHow can I optimize my hard disk drive usage and performance in Windows 8 or Windows 7?
AnswerThere are a few simple steps you can take to ensure your hard disk drive is used optimally.
    Use Toshiba HDD Protection
Many Toshiba laptops come with a program called Toshiba HDD Protection pre-installed. This program helps to protect your hard disk drive from being damaged due to falls or impacts. By default, it should already be enabled. You might be tempted to lower the detection levels in this application, but doing so could cause your hard disk drive to be damaged. Remember that while the application can reduce the chance of damage, you should still avoid allowing the laptop to fall or suffer rapid impacts.
For more information on this utility, see the following article:
    TOSHIBA HDD Protection
    Optimize the drive
Windows 8 and Windows 7 optimize hard disk drives automatically through a process called defragmentation. Unless you've disabled this, you don't need to do anything. If you have disabled this and want to run the process, you can still do so.
In Windows 8, search for "Defrag" at the Windows Start screen and select "Defragment and optimize your drives."
In Windows 7, search for "Defrag" in the Start Menu's search field and select "Disk defragmenter."
You can use this tool to optimize your hard disk drives, allowing Windows to find needed files faster.
    Remove items from startup
Some applications run automatically when Windows starts. This can add additional functionality, but it also decreases the performance of your computer. Sometimes you might want to disable certain programs from starting automatically.
In Windows 8, search for "Task Manager" at the Start screen. Select the "Startup" tab. Select an application you'd like to disable from starting automatically and then click the "Disable" button in the lower-right.
In Windows 7, type "msconfig" in the Start Menu's search field and press ENTER. Uncheck the boxes next to applications you'd like to disable from starting automatically.
You should be sure of the purpose of an application before disabling it from starting automatically. Some applications might be important. If in doubt, you might consider searching on the Web to discover more information about a program. Remember that if you find that you disabled something vital, you can always re-enable it.

  • CSV vhdx files and SAN optimization - sequential or random access or...?

Is there a best practice on the SAN optimization of LUNs for CSV VHDX files - e.g. sequential vs. random access?
We recently set up a small two-node Hyper-V 2012 R2 Failover Cluster. As I was creating LUNs for the CSV vhdx files, our SAN (like most, I think) has some pre-set optimization options which are more or less sequential vs. random access. There's now the abstraction
layer of shared VHDX files and the actual data those VHDXs are being used to store.  Are there any best-practices for SAN optimization in this regard?
In other words, I could see:
    A. Cluster-shared VHDXs are accessed (more-or-less) based on the type of data they're used for
    B. All cluster-shared VHDXs are (more-or-less) accessed sequentially
    C. All cluster-shared VHDXs are (more-or-less) accessed randomly.
I have one source that says that for a relatively simple SMB setup like we have that "C" is the recommendation.  I'm curious if anyone else has run into this or seen an official best-practice...?

There as good article published recently by Jose Barreto about CSV performance counters. See:
    Cluster Shared Volume: Performance Counters
    http://blogs.msdn.com/b/clustering/archive/2014/06/05/10531462.aspx
You can run DiskSPD or Intel I/O Meter yourself to see what workload you'll get @ CSV with 10+ VMs doing different I/O types. We did and you'll get
4-8KB 100% random reads and writes (just make sure you gather statistics for a long time).
So that's type of workload you could optimize your LUN @ SAN level.
StarWind Virtual SAN clusters Hyper-V without SAS, Fibre Channel, SMB 3.0 or iSCSI, uses Ethernet to mirror internally mounted SATA disks between hosts.

  • How to optimize my mac

After installing OX Mavericks, I received an alert telling me to "Optimize Your Mac", Performance and battery life may be impacted until completed.
It then only gives the option to close the alert, but nothing to take me to where I would need to optimize.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks

It's not telling you to do that, it's informing you that it is doing that so that you won't be confused by possible short-term performance or battery life issues. Just close that notification and don't worry about it.

  • About Anapod and Transferring Stuff to your iPod

I have read a lot about Anapod. Anapod is suppost to be a great program and will "optimize your iPod experience".I read something about a drag and drop feature and maybe that itw as used for transferring. I was wondering, since a lot of people are having trouble moving movies to their iPods, if you could install Anapod and use the drag and drop feature instead of waiting for the long transfer speed iPod has. This is probably a stupid idea on my part but I'm really curious and this may fix a few problems.
Please inform me if this would work or not. Don't be too harsh because, yes, I'm ******** in this field.
    P.S.- Here's the link to Anapod. http://www.redchairsoftware.com/anapod/

it might be worth checking in at the Anapod Explorer forums over at ilounge to see if anyone there has any feel for that:

    Hi Chetan,
I suggest the following to optimize your performance.
    - Change the order of the fields (belnr bukrs gjahr awkey blart), so that they're in the same order than showned in SE11 table data definition (you may need to change the order in t_bkpf definiton also).
    - Add the client in your select statement.
    Something like this:
SELECT bukrs belnr gjahr blart awkey FROM bkpf CLIENT SPECIFIED
    INTO TABLE t_bkpf
    WHERE mandt = sy-mandt
    AND bukrs IN s_bukrs
    AND gjahr IN r_year.
Your statement it's very simple. I don't think that there is much more to do.
    Hope that helps.
    Kind regards.

  • Website Optimization Software

What Web Optimization software would you reccommend for
multiple websites as I am web designer / developer and want to add
    this as a service.
What do you think on over inflated prices for this kind of

    engines?
Or are these link reank etc accurate?

Why not? Links from search engines (even small ones) are a

  • Where do I paste something into the head to enable mobile optimization?

I have an iWeb website and I want to optimize it for mobile, the instructions I received are as follows:
"Copy and paste the code below into the <head> section of your business website to instantly optimize your site for mobile device"
It then gives me a code to paste, but I'm not sure where to insert it on iWeb.   I tried to insert it as an HTML snippet, but it didn't work so I backed it out.   Some things I've read say to insert it somewhere on the index.html, but I'm not sure what that this, where to find it, or if it is even correct.
    Thanks for your suggestions!
    I'm using:  iWeb 3.0.4

Textedit (on your computer) in plaintext mode or Fraise.
    Download Fraise here :
    http://www.wyodor.net/Public/index.php?dir=Applications
"The code essentially turns it from a full page, to one that is more condensed and easier to navigate on a mobile phone.  Not the full site..."
Condensed perhaps, meaning removing white space from the file at the server side, but easier to navigate I doubt.
