Options for creating DVD labels?

Can anyone educate a fairly tech-savvy but first-timer on iDVD/iMovie on the options for creating/printing labels for DVDs? (by 'labels' I'm referring to the paper or plastic that's stuck to the ouside of the disk identifying it).
Is this functionality built in? Ideally you'd be able to print a label similar to the opening menu scene.
Do paper labels create problems for a spinning disk, and if so what's best?
Thanks much,
Neil

iMovie HD 6 allows the user much greater control of adding multiple audio tracks to a movie or editing the existing audio track. This screenshot shows using multiple audio tracks for a slideshow.

Several features were removed from iMovie 7 which caused a hue and cry from users. So Apple has made V6 available to iLife 08 users. Both versions can exist together on your Mac and be used separately if so desired.

  • Creating DVD labels

Are there any templates available for Pages for creating DVD labels? If not, can someone recommend some DVD labeling software (preferably free)?
    Thanks!

There are several options for templates you can use in Pages. First, there those submitted by other users & available at iWork Community. Three possibilities for Word templates are Microsoft, Neato & Fellowes

You can create the design for a DVD label in Create>More Options. Once you have the label set up, you would copy it to a template for the labels you plan to use. (The PSE template makes one label, while most printed labels are two-up.)

  • Recommendations for creating dvd case inserts?

Hello! As far as I can tell, iDVD 6 has no feature for creating dvd case covers/inserts.
I'd appreciate recommendations for inexpensive or free software for making such covers.
    Thanks!
    David

You're welcome, David. I'm not familiar with all the Sharpie product line, but the common one that marks anywhere uses a fairly harsh solvent, and in theory could eat through to the reflective coating of the DVD. I found a Memorex product at Fry's Electronics named, "CD Marker." It is labeled non-toxic, water-based.
Personally, I've not had any problems with the sticky labels (I've used Memorex and CD Stomper labels for a few years) but there are some strong feelings opposed to their use (and I can imagine a problem could come up in 10-15 years). You can do a search in these forums; an alternative is printing directly onto the DVD if you have the right printer and disks.

  • No option for creating new portal or portlet in BEA workspace

hi, i download workshop102_win32.exe from oracle site and installed the software properly.but after Creating a Workspace i didn't find any option for creating portal web project in the "File-->New-->project".
Their is also no option for creating any portal or portlet also.
so i think i didn't install a propery software for portal development or i need to install any other extra plugins for portal development in BEA weblogic.
So, friends please suggest me where i will find the proper software for weblogic portal development.
I expect your prompt reply, any help will be very appreciated.
    Thank you in advance.

    1. To have better luck on questions about WebLogic Portal, you may want to post your question in the [WebLogic Portal Forum |http://forums.oracle.com/forums/forum.jspa?forumID=573].
    2. are you following any documentation or demo or tutorial/ white paper which asked you to download what you downloaded?
    3. About your question, what you installed seems like the Development Tool for WebLogic.
For the WebLogic Portal Software, you may want to go to the following page and click the last link in the User Interaction category.
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/ias/bea_main.html
That link is for Oracle WebLogic Portal 10.3 and gives you the file portal103_win32.zip.
    hope that helps!

  • HT2476 Why when clicking the right mouse button for my external hard drive there is no option for "create new folder"?

Hi there. I'm having a problem with my external hard drive. Actually with only one of them (others seem to be ok...). The problem is that when clicking the right mouse button (or using other ways to do the same), in the drop-down list there isn't an option for "create new folder". Please, can anyone help with this issue?

The drive is NTFS formated. Most probably that's the reason, but there is some info on the drive which I wouldn't like to loose. If there is a way to re-format the drive and save the files, that would be great. If there isn't such a way, then please, tell me how to re-format it. But bear in mind as well that I'm using Parellels and the drive is to be used in Mac and Win modes, both. Just to add some more info: my other drive is FAT32 formated and all seems to go well with it.

  • Request Advice for creating DVDs from 7.5 gig file sizes

    Hi,
    [using dvdstudio 3]
I’m looking for advice for home DVD project i'm working on. I want to create a DVD from video that has been captured to my computer using iMovieHD, and have completed my wanted edits for two clips. They are about an hour-plus each. When exporting the two clips separately (Sharing, in iMovie terms), the file sizes are about 7.5 Gig each at full quality, and I understand I’m going to have to cut some corners in the process to get both on one DVD and I’m even willing to have two DVDs, but still need to know the best way to decrease the file size for each one. The audio should remain as 16 bit 44.1 Khz, Stereo.
I’m wondering what the best method to achieve an optimum quality DVD is. Again, I realize I’ll have to compress the video at the loss of quality (i.e., “cut corners”) to make the DVDs.
In my previous experiences, I’ve retained the larger file size all the way up through the authoring process in DVD Studio letting it build a 7.5 gig dvd format (VIDEO_TS). Then, I used DVDx2One to compress it down to 4.5. The end result was pretty good and I never had any troubles per say. However, this project is important to me and I want to make the best quality I can. What would you do differently?
Here are my software tools that I use interchangeably for previous projects; copying, authoring, editing, etc:
-> iMovieHD 4x – used to capture the video.
-> DVD Studio 3 - to author and build my dvd session
-> ffmpegx - as a video conversion and compression tool
    -> DVDX2one to recompress DVD formatted (VIDEO_TS).
Thanks very much for your tips!
    JeffTronics

Hi Jeff - is the iMovie file in QT format?
If so, you need to compress it to MPEG2 - you don't need to suffer too much of a quality loss by doing so - how long (in minutes) is the video?
You should also encode the audio to AC3 - this will save loads of space as AC3 is about a tenth the size of a .aiff.
ffmpeg will create the MPEG for you, but so will DVDSP (as indeed will Quicktime). In your applications folder you should find 'A.Pack' which will handle the audio conversion as well.
The exact encoding parameters you use will depend on the nature of the footage that you have got - it's more than just squeezing it to fit - you need to account for fades, pans, zooms and fast action as well. Some parts can have a lower bitrate applied than others, and this is where a tool such as Compressor comes in handy. DVDSP will encode the footage as you work, or when you build if you want it to - this is also a reasonable option if you have nothing else available, or if you are new to the whole thing.
The best workflow is to go from iMovie to a compression tool to create your MPEG2 file. Take the associated .aiff file and encode to to Dolby Digital (AC3). Import both the MPEG2 and the AC3 file into DVDSP and you should be able to get the entire project to less than 4.37GB (the maximum capacity of a DVD-R).

  • Workflow options for creating dailies?

I recently shot about six hours of interview footage in a day-long shoot. My producer, who's in New York, asked me to dump all the raw footage to DVDs and fedex them up. No problem, thought I. I'll just capture it all, throw on a timecode burn and go.
Well, it turned out to be a little more complicated. Six hours of footage in five one-hour and two half-hour chunks requires a LOT of rendering just to put a timecode burn on it. The job's almost done now, thanks to a couple of overnight render sessions while I was home sleeping, but for next time, I'd like to find a better, faster and more importantly less-machine-tying-up workflow for creating dailies.
I'm aware that I could have just sent the tapes out to a post house to have them transferred to DVD with a TC burn on them, but since I was shooting in 24f mode on an XL H1, there are very few options for playing back these tapes. (Tapes shot in that format only play back on Canon cameras, and only on a few specific models of Canon camera to boot.)
Do any of y'all have a good workflow for creating dailies from piles and piles of raw footage?
    Thanks.

Actually, that probably would work, since the whole point of this heretofore painful exercise has been to create dailies with a timecode burn on them. Even if the resulting DVD is 29.97, if I burned in the source timecode on my 23.98 sequence, that'd be fine.
Of course, I'd still have to insert pulldown into the signal going to the DVD recorder.
In my particular case, this option requires a couple of not-insignificant pieces of hardware that I neither have nor need for any other use: Namely, some kind of analog video output from my Mac, and a DVD recorder that takes an analog input. If I were doing this on a daily basis, finding the right combination of hardware and software would make perfect sense. But at this stage, I'm not producing long-form dailies often enough to make it worth a big investment.
As with so many things, this is sounding like a perfect trade-off between time and money. I can do it with no additional gear at all, as long as I'm willing to set aside a few hours to render. Or I can do it in real time, but only with new hardware.
    Such is life.
(In retrospect, something I failed to think of before starting this effort was capturing my footage as DV instead of HDV from my camera. The XL H1 has a real-time DV downconvert option. I could have grabbed the six hours of footage as DV, then burned my dailies off of those with correspondingly shorter render times, then gone back to my source tapes to capture the clips I want for my edit. That would have been, y'know, smart. I'm just out of the habit of thinking on offline-online terms.)

  • Will iDVD Disk Image work for creating DVD's on PC

I created a disk image of video that I have made DVD's from. I want to send the disk image to friends to create DVD's but they have PC's. Is there a way for them to use that disk image to make CD's? What programs would they use? etc.

    Hi Parrish Jones
Welcome to apple discussions. The good news is that a disc image burned through iDvd is identical in content to the finished dvd. So if your friend can use the video_ts folder to create a new dvd (on his choice of PC Dvd burning software) then there shouldn't be a problem. At worst you may have to first provide him/her with a burned iDvd rather than the disc image (depending on weather or not s/he can read said image on a PC).
I personally use Roxio Toast to burn the disc image to Dvd-R. And Roxio also make a PC version of this software called Roxio Creator. Although I've read the PC version for Windows Vista isn't nearly as good as the Mac version. (why I don't know).
    http://www.roxio.com/enu/products/creator/system-requirements.html
Most folks who run Windows Vista / burn Dvd's on a pc do not necessarily use Roxio products as opposed to Nero or CDBurnerXP (and there are other alternatives also listed below for the PC).

Your choice (or rather your friend's choice).

Hope the above links help but if not just come on back. And good luck.

  • PS or IL for CD/DVD labels

Hello, I'm new tp printing and I've just used the print cd software that came with my printer. Which one of the programs is better for designing cd/dvd labels? I want to print directly on the disc. Do any of these apps come with a template or would I have to make my own? If I have to make my own can someone give me a quick overview? How does the measuring work? I would like to print on the whole disc, I think it's called "hub-printing."
    thx

You will need to make your own templates. For help in using either program, please post in the individual forums.

  • How to make template for avery dvd labels?

Can one make a template to print avery dvd labels?

You have all your versions wrong.
The current Mac OSX is now v10.9.2.
We have no idea what version of Pages you are talking about or what is happening when you try to open them. Possibly you have Pages '08 files which Pages 5 will not open.
Any older version of Pages should however still be in your Applications/iWork folder.

  • What are the options for creating editable output

We are using PeopleSoft XML Publisher. I need to create inventory reports that list assets and include columns for user input. Currently we generate them using an rtf template, a query data source and print them out in pdf format. Rather than print the reports and handwrite their comments and counts, the users would like to be able to enter them directly onto the reports.
The data fields need to be read-only and the user fields need to accept user input. I am under the impression that this may be possible if i use a PDF template. Is anyone doing something similar? Are there any other options?

I think that Predixion Insight is the easiest tool to use and is very powerful.
All you need to have is Windows OS, Office 2010 or 2013 and internet connection. If you want to look at what you need to do before installing Predixion, I recommend you to take a look at the walkthroughs at

  • Best practice for creating DVD

I am trying to create a DVD of the movie i just made.
I am wondering about the exporting feature of iMovie, beucase i want to change the frame rate from 29 fps to 25 fps to give it a more movie like feel, rather then so life like....
is is possible? What perhaps is good practice for this?
    thanks.

29/25 fps are Apple's latest "acronyms" for NTSC/PAL...
you change a lot more then just framerate...
in case you like to play the resulting DVD on a NTSC player: don't do so...
making a more "filmish" look, deinterlace your project, using
    JES Deinterlacer (free)
    .. gives much better effect...
finally: use the cinematize effect in iM.. adding black borders give most viewers a nice ... ehm, cinema effect.

  • Encore cs4 files for creating dvd? where are the stored?

    Hi,
    I am in trouble.
I have been working on project in Adobe Prem cs4 dragged it into encore.. all ok.
    made dvd.(some links I did didn't work...my learning)
    made dvd
    missed 3 seconds of footage.
sorted in A prem. all gd in encore.
remade dvd ( 4 hours to make)
    1 item had no sound.
sorted in encore (2nd sound track instead of 1st) easy....
remade dvd( 4 hours to make).
computer took 20 minutes to show screen when turned on..
It runs out of memory and i am looking for the place where secret files may be stored...maybe the ones that do the transcoding? or ones creating the dvd...maybe thats the cause???
now i have 1.17MBof memory on my C: drive (300GB)
    xp service pack 3
    2.4 GHz 3.50 GB RAM
2 external hard drives have Auto saves from Adobe Prem)
I have deleted all the previous rendering which I thought was eating up the memory...)
now i don't know what to do..
    absolutely desperate..
What can I dump, so i can make the dvd and finish this project...
Despeserate need a fresh brain to assist... it is all getting too technical//
    Cheers

no typo... when i put mouse over C: that is what it said.. I minimsed Encore and Prem , as they were non responsive on every action for a minute or two... then closed, then uninstalled cs2 and then got 13 GB not enough to defrag( it did say it couldn't defrag a few files??? , which i do often.. enough to open them, tread very carefully, then burn the dvd. Preview was too slow to check, so luckily...well i checked all had sound, all footage was ok, all links worked and burnt. It took 4 hours to transcode, but it worked. Then I made 20 copies using encore...so with patience, assistance from the world I am back on track, but would love to clear the computer up so it can be defraged correctly and i have some speed back, and put my personal stuff back on, Pre project...CHEERS
I use 2 external hardrive. 1 x 500GB Western Digital just USB, and 2nd one is Freeagent 300GB with power supply USB.
My computer has only Software on it and is XPservice pack3  2.4 GHZ  3.50GB RAM. ASUS That is about all the techo stuff i know, ...wondered if graphics card could cause these problems??? it has been suggested???? what should i have??
