Oracle 10g Enterprise Manager DB control vs Enterprise Manager Console

We have a consultant install Oracle 10g on Windows platform. Somehow, I only see Enterprise Manager Console installed and I can use this console to access database. I don't see Enterprise Manager Database Control installed. What difference between Console and DB control? Please advise.

The Java Standalone client was deprecated in 10gR1. Probably since not all features had been ported to the 3-tier DB Console (eg: Spatial index management and Workspace Management), Oracle decided to let us use the Java Console as an extra install from the Client/Companion disk. However it is no longer available going forward into 11g.
If you look at the 'Console' carefully, you will not that some areas are no longer functional and it does not cover all capability of 10g, for example in partitioning and indexing.

Oracle 10g express: trouble with control file

Hallo,
I have just installed Oracle 10g for Linux; my distro is Fedora core 4. After configuring the environment variables, I try to startup the XE database by invoking sqlplus as oraclexe user. The command fails with this error message:
ORA-00205: error in identifying control file, check alert log for more info
The alert log says that the control file control.dbf is missing, and actually it is, along with every data file and log.
Could anyone give me one hint?

i had try to adding exception in windows firewall with *1521 ,8080, 2030,* but the message still occurs... i had try many ways too,, its BIG ZERO.... i got nothing,

I figured a way around this in case anyone has the same problem in the future. I just opened Acrobat Pro X, clicked combine files into PDF, selected the file I wanted, saved the "binder" as PDF then saved another version as Reader Extended PDF. I think this helped because it essentially creaded a whole new PDF with the old PDF in it and getting rid of whater hashes or document properties in the last one that wouldn't allow it to work in Reader. Opens perfectly on other computers.

Get the source file from
bash $ wget ftp://rpmfind.net/linux/redhat/enterprise/3/en/os/i386/SRPMS/libaio-0.3.96-3.src.rpm
than
bash $ rpmbuild --rebuild libaio-0.3.96-3.src.rpm
this will build the rpm you need to install...
the new RPM will be most prob. created in folder...
/usr/src/redhat/RPMS/i386/libaio-0.3.96-3.i386.rpm
and then install...
rpm -ivh libaio-0.3.96-3.i386.rpm

In staging environment,
following entry was generated in fiddler tool page.aspx? _tsm_combinedscripts_=true........
which requires significantly good time to download the large data.(largest time than other requests)
in dev env this entry was not generated in fiddler , now I want to know , how this entry was generated in staging environment and not in dev environment

Upgrading from Oracle 10G standard edition to Oracle 10G enterprise edition

I want to upgrade from Oracle 10G standard edition to Oracle 10G enterprise edition. Is there any script provided by oracle which I can run on existing Oracle 10G standard edition to upgrade to enterprise edition after completing the licensing formalities or do I need to install Oracle 10g Enterprise edition from scratch and then migrate my data.

You will not need to perform any data migration to upgrade to EE. The diffetence between standard en enerprise editions are the features offered. When you upgrade you can use the same set of files you used to install standard edition and just add the enterprise edition features you want to use in the 'Custom' section of the Universal Installer.

Can Oracle 10g EM manage DB2 or SQL Server

Need to know if Oracle 10g EM do have the capability to manage DB2 and SQL Server, as ct has this requirement. If so ct will manage all DB`s using Oracle 10g EM and use it for his enterprise.

Manage, no. Monitor, yes, so long as you don't mind a bit of work.
Now, for SQL Server, I expect you'll see the capability as a result of the Peoplesoft acquisition in a future release.
DB2, well that's a bit of work if you care that much about it. Grid R2 has a lovely SDK for developing your own plugins to monitor whatever the heck you like. It's alot easier to do in R2 than R1...

Oracle 10g tns listener

i have installed 10g database on the same server on which 9i already exists. i did it on two machines and on comp1 everything is going well, but on comp2 (which is main server in our company) i can't connect to database i created during the 10g installation. when i try to run enterprise manager console, i'm asked for host and/or database username and password, and when i enter these things i still can not run EM. after few attempts i figure it out that there might be a problem with listeners (i found it on net) and i found out that on comp1, with which i have no problem, oracle 10g listener is running (control panel->admin tools->services), but on comp2 9i listener is running, and there is no 10g listener listed in services at all, so this could be the problem which i don't know how to solve. what should i do to register or do anything else, to have 10g listener listed in services to make it run???? if i'm wrong about listeners, tell me some other ideas and solutions to work it out.

Stop and disable the 9i listener service and to create a 10g listener with the Net Configuration Assistant (Start -> Programs -> Oracle 10 Home -> Configuration and Migration Tools -> Net Configuration Assistant). As you saw on the other macine, the 10g listener will register the 9i and the 10g databases.

Oracle 10g(10.1.0.4) , BusIntelligence 10g(10.1.2), ApSrv 10g(10.1.2)

I have all ready successfully installed Oracle 10g Database 10.1.0.4 with appropriate olap patch.
The latest version of Analytical Warehouse Manager (10.1.0.4) is also installed and working prior to installing application server 10g(10.1.2)
1.Installed AS10g(10.1.2) - Infrastructure Tier - Successful Installation and services running
2.Installed AS10g(10.1.2) - Application Server Mid Tier - Successful Installation and services running
3.Installed Business Intelligence 10g (10.1.2)Tier - Successful Installtion and services running
4. Using Enterprise Manager, tried to install the Discoverer Catalog, and authorise the schemas that will contain data that Discoverer will analyze.
- Attempted to do this against the Oracle 10g (10.1.0.4) instance above and recieved a horrific looking 'INTERNAL SERVER ERROR'
Rebooted the server and took down all the services related to the application server and BI install (Only Services required by 10.1.0.4 Oracle 10g are running)
Retested the Analytic Workspace Manager 10g Release 1 now unfortunately obtaining an 'java.sql.SQLException:t2cGetCharSet' error trying connect to 10.1.04. Oracle 10g database
This was originally working prior to the 10g Application Server install.
Any ideas as to what is going on...

Oracle 10g Status Pending

I have installed Oracle 10g. I can browse through Enterprise Manager, can create/delete objects.
When I see the Status of my Database Server, it shows
Status Status Pending
Status Pending Since Apr 13, 2005
Why the Status is still pending and why it is open?

Are you using Apex 2.1 that comes with XE 10G?
That version Apex is old and might/have bugs. Also it not support well latest browsers.
It is better use tool like SQL developer to run queries

Oracle 10g RAC design with ASM and OCFS

I have a question about a proposed Oracle 10g Release 2 RAC design for a 2 node cluster.
ASM can store database files but not Oracle binaries nor OCR and voting disk. As such, OCFS version 1 does not support a shared Oracle Home. We plan to use OCFS version 2 with ASM version 2 on Red Hat Linux Enteprrise Server 4 with Oracle 10g Release 2 (10.2.0.1).
For OCFS v2, a shared Oracle home and shared OCR and voting disk are supported. My question is does the following proposed architecture make sense for OCFS v2 with ASM v2 on Red Hat Linux 4?
Oracle 10g Release 2 on Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server 4:
OCFS V2:
- shared Oracle home and binaries
- shared OCR and vdisk files
- CRS software shared OCFS v2 filesystem
- spfile
- controlfiles
- tnsnames.ora
ASM v2 with ASMLib v2:
Proposed ASM disk groups:
- data_dg for application data
- backupdg for flashback and archivelogs
- undo_rac1dg ASM diskgroup for undo tablespace for racnode1
- undo_rac2dg ASM diskgroup for undo tablespace for racnode2
- redo_rac1dg ASM diskgroup to hold redo logs for racnode1
- redo_rac2dg ASM diskgroup to hold redo logs for racnode2
- temp1dg temp tablespace for racnode1
- temp2dg temp tablespace for racnode2
Does this sound like a good initial design?

I think Netbackup can be integrated with RMAN but I don't want to loose time on this (political).
To summarize:
ORACLE_HOME and CRS_HOME on each node (RAID1 and NTFS)
Shared storage:
Disk1 and disk 2: RAID1: - Raw partition 1 for OCR
- Raw partition 2 for VotingDisk
- OCFS for FLASH_RECOVERY_AREA
Disk3, disk4 and disk5: RAID 0 - Raw with ASM redundancy normal 1 diskgroup for database files.
This is a running project here, will start testing the design on VMware and then go for production setup.

Connect linux 4 oracle 10g client to window 2003 server oracle 10g server

Hi,
I have my oracle 10g server installed on windows 2003 server.
On another system i have oracle 10g client is installed having RedHad enterprise edition 4.
I want to connect my client to the database server.
I check using oracle universal installer it shows in installed products i.e.
oracle 10g client is installed on linex system.
but when i try to write any command like

bash: sqlplus$: command not found
[oracle@satish ~]$ tnsping
bash: tnsping: command not foundand it doen't show any enty in applications for oracle which is strange.
as i am new to linux.
how to overcome this problem.

I got an assignment to do, which has the below components to install...i am a DBA, but have not done this before.....
1. Oracle 10g database Release 2 enterprise edition.
2. Oracle 10g Release 2 Diagnostic Pack.
3. Oracle 10g Release 2 Tuning Pack.
4. Oracle 10g Release 2 Internet Application server enterprise edition.
5. Oracle 10g Release 2 Business intelligence server.
all above will be installed on Linux...

The only thing that is non-standard is the BI server . Is it EE,SE or SE1 BI ? note recent reconfig of these suites to include Siebel.
