Oracle 10g patch 10.0.2.1.0

Hi
We are planning to install the patch 10.0.2.1.0 to DB server. Currect status haven't install any patch on development DB. Any different after update the patch? What should I pay attention? before or after upgrade? and Should I also upgrade the oracle client (JDBC driver) on clister side?
TKS

Hi,
Recently we upgraded from 10.1.0.4 to 10.1.0.5. Oracle Patching is no easy task. Good planning is half work done. Be very detail in preparing the check list. We had few problems. But it took good effort to make things in given downtime. Most important thing is go through the Patch release notes and follow additions to the document. Also plan to apply the latest CPU available for the patch you want to apply. In our case only applying April 2007 CPU to 10.1.0.5 patch solved an upgrade bug critical bug.
Thanks,

• ORACLE 10g patch installtion error in AIX 6.1

error like ''oracle universal installer has detected that there are processes running inthe currently selected oracle home.the following processes need to be shutdown before continuing : java ksh

Hi,
is known issue, see Metalink ID 980602.1. Problem is fuser on AIX. IBM has released AIX patch to solve the issue: IZ67400: FUSER GIVES INCORRECT PIDS WITH -X OPTION.
Another workaround is:
As root:
1) rename fuser
mv /usr/sbin/fuser /usr/sbin/fuser_renamed
2) touch /usr/sbin/fuser
3) chmod +x /usr/sbin/fuser
As oracle software owner:
1) Try to install the patchset (fuser can now return nothing, hence the Installer should continue)
After successful install, as root:
1) rename fuser back to its original name
mv /usr/sbin/fuser_renamed /usr/sbin/fuser

• Oracle 10g 2 - 10.2.0.2 Patch seti without instance

Hi,
I'm installing Oracle 10g 2 - 10.2.0.2.
I installed base release 10g 2 and then i have installed the patch set 10.2.0.2 (Linux x86).
It's a new installation, so there isn't an instance.
When i use dbca to create the DB i receive the error
ORA-01092: ORACLE instance terminated. Disconnection forced.
So i think i should execute catupgrd.sql like described in readme of patch, but if there ins't an instance, how could i connect to the db as sysdba?
Thanks!

If you don't currently have any database, then you don't need to run the catupgrade script, this is meant only for databases so the data dictionary is upgraded on an individual basis. Just ensure you have properly applied the patchset against the right Oracle Home and ensure your environment variables are properly set.

• Oracle 10g CPU patch

Oracle 10g on Windows server 2003. I need to do CPU patch. I follow the patch instructions, but I have some questions:
1. back up %oracle_home% directory. Is this just to copy whole directory to different disk?
2. clean shutdown all Oracle services: I know this includes db, listener, db control, anything else?
3. The Db has ASP application on the top. How to shutdown application? what components should I look at?
Webserver that uses Oracle client in the mid-tier?
4. What does ODBC application mean?
5.What does this mean? "make sure no applications are using the driver sqora32.dll"
6.What does "Oracle Instant Client" mean? Is this regular Oracle client tool installed on application server? I guess not.
Appreciate any help.

My question: Is this just to copy to different disk OR you have other way to do it?It is a suggestion that will allow you to recover. In some cases (non-production) I will skip this step.
In production, I will ask the Backup team to make an extra backup of the entire ORACLE_HOME so they can do a quick restore if I mess up. (Then I'll be extra careful not to mess up.)
And yes, if you are comfortable that a disk copy will be sufficient to do a complete restore, then that should be OK as well.
>
2.clean shutdown all Oracle services: I know this includes db, listener, db control, anything else?
I don't have ASM or ClusterwareThe you probably don't need to worry about it.
If you have any other Oracle stuff (BI Suite, SOA Suite, etc) that tries to log on to the database, these must be made aware of the outage - usually by shutting them down. Even if they are not on the same server.
>
3.What does this mean? "make sure no applications are using the driver sqora32.dll"
My question is where and how can I find this DDL?
Are you seriously saying you do not have access to an OS file-search tool?
At least one copy is in ORACLE_HOME/bin
>
4. What does "Oracle Instant Client" mean? Is this regular Oracle client tool installed on application server? I guess not.
My question is that is this tool to get installed on Oracle server or application server? My vendor installed the Oracle server for us, how do I know if this tool got installed or not?It is a completely separate download. It is usually installed at the client, not on the server. However, since you have a vendor install, you may want to discuss this with the vendor.
The big challenge with Instant Client is that it is not an 'install' . It is just an unzip into an arbitrary directory, and does not get recorded in the registry. So almost impossible to find without the SysAdmin's install notes.

Oracle 10g release 2 patch set 3 is for 10.2.0.4. Can

Thanks.Always read the README to verify.
In general a patchset can be applied to the base and any lower patchset.
So 10.2.0.4 should, unless warned otherwise for your specific configuration, be applicable to any of 10.2.0.1, 10.2.0.2 and 10.2.0.3

• Patch problems in Oracle 10g

HI All,
Recently a security patch was applied in our oracle 10g database. After that a strange problem has occurred, where in many correct data is wrongly rejected after validations. if the data are processed again then some data are correctly passed through the validations. These process as to be repeated to properly pass all the valid data otherwise they are wrongly rejected. the values are passed through arrays in these validations. Is there any problems with arrays in oracle 10g

Your explanations are not clear at all, at least for me.
What data are you talking about ?
What validations' processes ?
What 10g ?
What patch ?
What OS ?
Could you try to rephrase your entry ?

• OS 64bit and Oracle 10G with Patch are 32bit

Hello Experts
My problem little bit typical. I am new in Oracle.
I am going to install Solution Manager 4.0 with Oracle 10G on Windows 2003 64bit, IBM x3650 Server.
I have already installed Oracle 10G 32bit, with 32bit patches,. It’s a general Oracle without sapserver.cmd file, so I have installed with setup.exe file. I have mounted the database, created the listener.
New there are three directories 1) D:\Oracle\Product\10.2.0\admin\DEV10\adump, bdump………etc. db\admin
2) E:\Oracledata\DEV10\control01.ctl, 02.ctl…………etc.
3) G:\ Archives
Now I am trying to install SOLMAN with sapinst.exe 64bit windows, after giving the export path, it shows the massage ‘Oracle software not installed. Install oracle software first.’ Means SAP does not recognizing Oracle.
After that I am trying to install with sapinst.ext 32bit, now it is excepting the export path. After two steps it is asking for Kernal & Oracle client path. What is oracle client? I think it is asking for OCL10264.SAR file.
My Questions are:
1. I have to download form market place 32bit or 64bit file?
2. My oracle installation is proper or not.
3. Where I have to uncar that file. Please provide me the proper path, step by step.
4. I am going to the right direction or I am a wrong. Please help me ….. I don’t want to format the machine.
Please explain me in details step by step. I am in the problem, I have no friends in this line.
Best Regards

> My Questions are:
> 1. I have to download form market place 32bit or 64bit file?
if you're installing on 64bit you need to install the 64bit Oracle binaries. And not only those but the actual patch 10.2.0.2 and the necessary interim patches before you can start to load the database. Additionally you should use the provided script to install the database, not setup.exe
Additionally you will need a 64bit JDK from Sun (avaible on the link in note 941595).
> 2. My oracle installation is proper or not.
No - you need a 64bit Oracle - and not the installation CDs downloaded from the Oracle site but those from SAP.
> 3. Where I have to uncar that file. Please provide me the proper path, step by step.
Where you have to uncar WHAT file?
> 4. I am going to the right direction or I am a wrong. Please help me ….. I don’t want to format the machine.
The proper approach would be to download the installation guide at
http://service.sap.com/instguides
and read all the installation notes, download the patches and install them as suggested in the guide before trying to start the installation. The preparation and planning of the system will take some time before you actually start to install.
A SolMan installation is no Microsoft Office where you do "setup - continue - continue - finish"...

• Need to have more info about the latest patch on Oracle 10g Release 2

Please this is the follwing answer that was given to explain the purpose of patching the latest release of Oracle 10g release 2.
We are applying the patch to the 32bit environment to resolve memory errors.
This patch should be applied to the 64bit environments too as to maintain consistency in our database versions
Personaly I don't believe the response is accurate to patch the database.
Does someone can tell me where to find more information about the latest path of Oracle 10g release 2?
Thanks a lot

You can find more information about a patchset by going over the readme document associated with the patch. As such, it is not exactly clear what kind of information you are looking for.
Login into Metalink=>Patches&Updates=>Simple Search=>
Product or Family=> RDBMS
Select your OS
if will your a link to the readme file...
Hope this helps
Thanks

You say you have 10.1.3.0 and your message says "There are no patches that need to applied from the patchset Oracle application Server Patchset *10.2.3.5*"
You can't patch 10.1.2 with a 10.1.3.
are you sure you have the appropriated patch?
