ORACLE 11g R2 SCAN LISTNER ISSUE
Hi,
Suddenly the Oracle 11g r2 RAC scan listener was changed to intermediate state in our envrionment.
How can we change state from intermediate to online state?
please find the details as below,
OS : HP Unix B.11.31
DB Version: 11.2.0.3.0

But i checked the listener status its showing for ONLINE.
For same status is not updated the crsctl stat res -t. Kindly advise on this.

RajWe had a similar issue when our organization upgraded to 11gR2.
It looks like it boils down to a change Oracle made in regards to how it works with correlated subqueries within an insert statement.
Anyway, this thread has a little more information:
Merge Command in 10g vs 11g
And it says to look at Metalink note 1109983.1 (which I can't seem to find).
Anyway, a workaround in thread is suggests (which worked for us) to wrap the insert subquery around a dummy decode clause, and oddly it will work.
eg:
INSERT (COL1, COL2) VALUES (1, (decode(1,1,(SELECT x.COL4 FROM TMP_TABLE3 x WHERE x.COL4 = DDD.P_ID)) ) ) ;
Quite a kludge, but at least it is an immediate fix to the problem, without having to rewrite anything. -
Oracle 11g FREE download installation issues
I am installing this database on an HP Pavilion Desktop
I essentially have TWO (2) issues.
1st ISSUE
I was able to successfully run the setup.exe and my Oracle 11g is now installed.
When I go to start, programs, Oracle, Application Development, SQL Plus
it opens a windown for SQL plus, however, I am not able to do anything.
I followed the install instructions about setting up the ODBC drivers, however I still
can not get this to work. Would also like to know how to set access to this up as a desktop icon.
2nd ISSUE
Acording to the README..for the Oracle Enterprise Edition, I was only required to download

The Oracle Fusion Middleware download V18762-01 they said was OPTIONAL (O)
Because I was having problems with the install where it was coming up with errors about
not finding files, I downloaded ALL the ones from the list which were for 64bit INCLUDING Orcale Fusion Middleware.
Only then did my install work properly.
What I need to know is, on a desktop where I will be the only user,
IS THE ORACLE FUSION MIDDLEWARE REQIRED?
If NOT, and I completed the install, what will happen if I delete that folder (size is 11G)?
Please advise!

Which version of 11g ? What is the OS ? Assuming 11gR2 and Windows, pl confirm you meet or exceed the requirements for the install

Oracle 11g R2 Windows Installation issue
Hey everybody,
i was trying to install Oracle 11g R2 on a Windows Server 2008 64-bit machine. During the installation i am getting an error message multiple times (about 20 times) where it says it cannot find certain files like C:\app\ora11g\product\11.2.0\dbhome_1\oc4j\j2ee\oc4j_applications\WFMLRSVCApp.ear and some other files too. If i click move on in the dialog box each time an error occurs the installation will succeed and finish successfully.
What am I doing wrong, do I have to change anything before installation starts?
I am using the correct 64-bit installation files i downloaded from the Oracle homepage...

What brings up more confusion is when you click on the "See All" button next to the download for the 32-bit Version of 11g R2 for Windows an error comes up. Worked for me.

ORACLE 11g R2 POST Install Issue
Hi,
I have successfully installed ORACLE 11g R2 on my windows 7 platform. The problem is that when i open the database control URL page and then enter my credentials, it fails to log in and says that an internal error has occurred. Please view the log files. I have also seen the logs but didn't find anything helpful. Kindly help.

May be this is the required one.

Oracle 11g decode issue with null
Hi,
we want to migrate from Oracle 10g to Oracle 11g and have an issue with decode.
The database has the following character set settings:
NLS_CHARACTERSET = AL32UTF8 in Oracle 11g and UTF8 in Oracle 10g
NLS_NCHAR_CHARACTERSET = AL16UTF16
If I try a select with decode which has null as first result argument I will get a wrong value.
select decode(id, null, null, name) from tab1;
("name" is a NVARCHAR2 field. Table tab1 has only one entry and "id" is not null.)
This select returns a value with characters which are splitted by 0 bytes.
In Oracle 10g the value without 0 bytes is delivered.
If I suround the decode with dump I get following results:
select dump(decode(id, null, null, name), 1016) from tab1;
Oracle 10g: Typ=1 Len=6 CharacterSet=AL32UTF8: 4d,61,72,74,69,6e
Oracle 11g: Typ=1 Len=12 CharacterSet=US7ASCII: 0,4d,0,61,0,72,0,74,0,69,0,6e
NLS_LANG has no effect on the character set of 'null' in Oracle 11g.

Listner issues in Oracle 11g server installation
Hi,
I am facing problem while connecting to Oracle 11g server on 'Windows 7 Enterprise edition - 32 bit OS'.
I have successfully installed Oracle 11g server on Windows & enterprise machine.
Listener and TNSnames.ora files are fine. But I am not able to connect through Oracle client machine. it shows 'TNS: Could not resolve the service name'.
When I check the listener status on the server, it shows the service ABBPROD is READY, but still not able to connect through client machine. I have gone through many similar threads and tried out the solutions provided but the problem still exists. Few of the things I tried are as below.
1. I have tried changing the ORACLE_SID and setting the $ORACLE_HOME parameter.
2. Tried replacing the HOST as 'localhost' to system IP address/computer name
3. Listener stop and start
4. Service stop and start
5. Checked the firewall settings of the server machine

Oracle 11g Migration performance issue

There a performance issue with Migration from Oracle 10g(10.2.0.5) to Oracle 11g(11.2.0.2).
Its very simple statement hanging for more than a day and later found that query plan is very very bad. Example of the query is given below:

Source(oracle 11g) with oracle 8i using db link with full table scan

I'm using oracle 8i version and i'm facing some issue while using DBlinks.
SourceDB1 I'm using oracle 8i(Source)
select * from tab1
tabl where id in
(select id from stab1@SourceDB1 where updt_seq_num > 167720 and work_grp_id in (2900,2901))
For this, I could able to retrive the data.
but, today we have migrated one of our source from oracle 8i to oracle 11G
when I'm executing
select * from tab2
tabl where id in
(select id from stab2@SourceDB2 where updt_seq_num > 167720 and work_grp_id in (2900,2901))
we couldn't able to retrive data as it's scaning full table scan.
when oracle 8i source it's scanning using INDEX scan but if the source oracle 11 h it's scanning full table scan.
Could you please advise how to resolve this issue for source oracle 11i ?
Please let us know, if you need any information.Blocks that are read via full table scans are stored in the buffer cache, but putting them at the MRU end ensures that they don't push the rest of the useful blocks out of the buffer cache. In your example, if you're full scanning a 2 GB table (T) with a 500 MB buffer cache, the first block that is read from T is put at the MRU end of the buffer cache, displacing the previous block that was at the MRU end of the cache. The next block that is read from T is also put at the MRU end of the buffer cache, displacing the previous block that was at the MRU end of the cache, so block #2 from T displaces block #1 from T. So, you're reading 2 GB of data, but you're constantly purging the older blocks, so you're only really using that last block of the buffer cache.

SCAN name could not resolve in Oracle 11g R2
Hi all,
I have a setup of 2 node with Solaris 10u8 machine for Oracle 11g R2 RAC.
I entered the scanip in windows DNS.
When i try to nslookup from solaris it is not getting resolved.But from the DNS it is getting resolved.
I have changed as nsswitch.conf file and created resolve.conf and entered the proper entries.
Please help me..

I resolved it.
Issue was my resolv.conf was named as resolve.conf.
I changed the file name as resolv.conf and the problem got solved.
Now i can resolve the scan ip through nslookup scan-name

Oracle 11g R2 Client Silent Installation Issue (PATH) Windows 7 x86
Hi All,
I'm hoping somebody can shed some light on this issue.
I created a Response file using the 'Save Response File' method during an interactive installation on a Windows 7 Enterprise x86 client. (file enclosed)
I have installed it multiple times now with multiple permutations of the command line (got caught out by the old lower case F in responseFile) but now I'm getting the same error each time (a critical error with the PATH according to the installation log). There is nothing wrong with the path length as the installation works fine in GUI mode and passes the Prereq check.
I launch the command line to install (with Run As Administrator) - "[location of setup.exe]\setup.exe" -nowait -silent -responseFile "[location of response file]\Oracle11gv2.rsp"

So this is not about "bitmap" good/bad, it about the access strategy which changed due to differences in data statistics etc. To analyze more, I'd help a LOT if those plans would be formated in a good and same way, use around it to do so. -
SSIS Oracle 11g 64 bit client upgrade Issue
After the oracle client upgrade from 10g to 11g, the ssis jobs are getting failed for the BadImageFormatException. Attempt to load Oracle client libraries threw This problem will occur when running in 64 bit mode with the 32 bit Oracle client components installed.
But the same package with same system requirements and same sql agent configuration is wroking fine in DIT. Please find below the system configuration in both environment.
DIT
Oracle Client - Oracle 11g 64 bit , Microsoft SQL Server - 32 and 64bit, Windows machine - 64 bt SP4, In job there is no configuration in command line to run in 32 bit mode since we are using the are using the .Net Provider/OracleClient Data Provider connection manager to the database .
UAT :
Oracle Client - Oracle 11g 64 bit , Microsoft SQL Server - 32 and 64bit, Windows machine - 64 bt SP4, In job there is no configuration in command line to run in 32 bit mode
In UAT, Everything looks as DIT but the job is not working fine in DIT.
I have gone through all the thread related to 32 64 bit, .Net Oracle client provide but i haven't found any solution for this problem.
Can you please tell me the missed out configuration in DIT and UAT? the exact problem for this issue ? what is the oracle components required for this connection? Its urgent.
What is missing in the oracle end?

Oracle 11g : Sequence Issues after impdp
Hi All,
We are migrating from Oracle 10g to Oracle 11g. As part of this, we take a expdp from 10g and successfully did an import using impdp on to Oracle 11g database.
But the problem is, there were few Primary key violations which occurred and all of them relate to sequences.
The Maximum data in the tables and the last number in the sequences differed which caused the issue.
Upon investigation and browsing the Web, http://www.nerdliness.com/article/2009/03/18/my-oracle-sequencedatapump-shenanigans ; I understood it could be because of the export taken while the application is online and writing to the database.
I reset all the failing sequences manually and it is fine now.
My questions now are
*1) Can we ascertain that the export taken when the source database is offline would eliminate the sequences issue.*
2) As this is being done in Production, I would like to make few checks to ensure that the sequences are properly imported. ---

If I relate the last_number with the highval and if they are same, does that mean the sequences are imported properly.
Note: We have sequence caching done and we are on RAC.

But the problem is, there were few Primary key violations which occurred and all of them relate to sequences.
The Maximum data in the tables and the last number in the sequences differed which caused the issue.
it could be because of the export taken while the application is online and writing to the database.I don't know what's your database's size , and what's acceptable downtime for you, but I could never propose such a migration tecnique to any of my customers, due to excessive downtime when databases are quite large.
It's quite obvious that you get such errors when the export is done while people are working, unless you use FLASHBACK_SCN or FLASHBACK_TIME parameter while exporting. But in this case, assuming you don't get errors (e.g. ORA-01555), you'll probably lose a lot ot transactions.
Assuming your 10g database is running in archivelog mode (which should be the default in production DBs) did you think of using RMAN to do the migration ? -

I am getting below error when i m trying to access oracle db using oracle 11g client. It works with earlier oracle client versions. how do i resolve this. is there any issue with version of ojdbc6.jar that i am using??? I cant use thin driver since its an old application for which i dont have source files.

Command-Return in Toolbar Search field does not open new tab
Since the 3.1 update, pressing Command-Return in the Toolbar Google Search field does not open the search results in a new tab. Command-Return in the URL field still works properly. Is anyone else having this issue and possibly a fix?
