Oracle 8i install on Win ME - invalid staging area?

I'm having trouble installing 8i Personal Edition on Win ME
(Athlon 1.3, 768 ram, plenty of disk space). I get the
error "Invalid staging area. There are no top level components
for Windows 95 available for install from this staging area." on
the "File Locations" step of the pre-install process. Anyone
know what this may be caused by?

Edit your win.ini file
In the [Compatibility 95] section add the following:
Jrew=0x00080000
Save the file and reboot your machine..
Now you will be able to install Personal 8i for windows 98 on
windows ME

  • 'Error: Invalid Staging Area' while installing Developer Studio 10g

    Dear All,
I am trying to install Oracle Developer Studio 10g on Windows 2000 SP4 machine having 512 MB RAM.
All the installer requirements are met.
After that Oracle Universal Installer displays the error:
Invalid Staging Area. There are no top level components for Windows NT, Windows 2000 available for installation in this staging area.
Please explain me this error. I am not getting any references about the same on Internet.
Do i able to install Oracle Developer Suite on my machine?

"Invalid Staging Area. There are no top level components for Windows NT available for install from this staging area."
This is Oracle's way of saying nothing on this CD can be installed on Windows NT (or Windows 2000)

  • Silent install of 10gR2 Client on XP: OUI-10133 Invalid Staging Area

    Hi!
I'm trying to install 10gR2 Admin Client on my Win XP workstation (XP Pro Multilingual, SP2) silently, but everytime I'm getting an OUI-10133 error.
If the installation is done interactively (from the same source), everything works fine.
Does anybody have a hint for me? I found a few notes on metalink referring to problems with the installation of Grid Control, but I think, this here is something different. I have one zip file containing the client installation, which has been extracted into one local directory.
    Regards,
    Daniel

I get a similar error when attempting to install Oracle 10g (10.2.0.1) on a RedHat Linux machine. I can't get past the first OUI screen. I select either Basic or Advanced install, and then I enter the name of my Oracle installation directory.
The actual context of the error msg is:
OUI-10133: Invalid staging area. There are no top level components for Linux available for installation in this staging area.
I click OK and that's pretty much it.
    What gives?

copy disk to hardrive in a temporary directory. go to properties for setup.exe (right click on file used to install oracle). Select the compatiblity tab. make sure the check box "run this program in compatibility mode" is checked. In combo box select windows 98.

When i try to install Oracle 8i on windows 2000 which compatible to windows 98 it is giving me "invalid staging area" can anybody help me please

XP requires an installation of the NT version of Oracle. There is a bug for 8i that involves the following solution to start the service. First, set the database service as Manual. Then do this:
There is a very irritating solution.(Atleast it works.)Open the windows Task Manager(ctrl+shift+esc) and under the process tab there will be one called ORACLE.EXE. Right-Click and select End Process Tree. Now start the Database from the Oracle administration for Windows NT MMC. Once This is done You will find the ORACLE.EXE process running in the Task Manager. Right-Click on this and set the priority to above normal or anything higher than normal. If you managed to do this in time, you may find the memory usage increasing to more than 40MB(It will be more than 50 MB if the default database was chosen). If you were not fast enough you may have to repeat the whole procedure once again.
This has to be done everytime the system is started. A good solution would be to hibernate instead of shutting down.

  • Problem with 10G R2 installation (OUI - 10133 Invalid Staging Area) on W2K3

I'm getting a strange error installing 10G R2 Database on a Windows 2003 server. I get "OUI - 10133 Invalid Staging Area. There are no top level components for Windows NT, Windows 2000 available for installation in this staging area." This happens when I choose an Advanced installation or when I choose a starter database.
The funny thing is that I've performed this installation with this exact installation disk on a virtual server on my laptop with Windows 2003.
Also, I ran a quick test with the 10G R1 installation files and I don't get the error. I want to run tests on case insensitivity with LIKE searches (a new feature enabled in 10G R2) so I can't use 10G R1.

I have seen that problem frequently and it is because for some reason the installer doesn't like burned CD's. Copy all the staging files over to disk. I usually download the zip files onto a staging drive on the server, unzip, install, then delete the install files when I'm done if I need the space.
This has two major benefits: I don't run into the "staging area" error and the install only takes about 30 minutes compared to about 3 hours when installing from CD.

  • Oracle Not installing on Win 2k

    Hey Gang,
Working on Win 2K SP 2.
    IBM NetVista, P-IV 1.4Ghz
Tried to install client of Oracle 8.1.6i, when clicking on autorun or setup.exe, I get the hourglass for about 5 seconds then stops with no install. I have two machines that are doing this.
Any help in this big world?
    Ciao!!!

The Oracle 8* universal installer will not run on a P4 unless your aquire the patched version, but oracle9i will work just fine on the P4...This also includes patches... As a work around in some situations the Oracle9i universal installer can be linked to the product.jar and initialized..."I have used this to patch 9i in order to install the 9iAS w/portal on the P4...

  • ORACLE 8i - Install on win 98

I downloaded this product and installed as minium. I do this because my machine freezes when the installer tries to create an instance. I went into DOS and ran the "ORADIM" command to set up database. I check the register and all is I prescribed in that setup. I then set Oracle_SID to equal my database. I then go server manager and get thrown out saying that it cannot open registry software\oracle\home0\sid_list
starting with default sid. then it blows up
    Any way to help?
    Thanks
    andy

have you tried increasing the quota for the registry..
In NT there is something called registry size...I would increase that see if that helps..
Look for something similar on Window98.
and increase the size of maximun registry size..
    good luck.

  • Oracle client install on upgraded win 2k desktop

I recently upgraded my PC from win98 to win2k. I already had the oracle client installed prior to the upgrade. I had to run the sql net config and a message came up saying my installation needed to be corrected. When I tried to reinstall the installer (y2k version), it says the oracle home (orawin95) cannot be used for an nt home but doesn't let me overide the location. I can't even get in to uninstall and start over! Is there a workaround?
