Oracle 8i NIS+ client support

What are the implications of introducing NIS+ naming service in Oracle 8i, Solaris 7 environment? Does oracle support this?

Gurhan,
I think it has nothing to do setting the JRE enviroment .from what I could remember is you have to install a JRE enviroment patch..
If you check you insallation documentation..
it tell you where to get the patch from..and I also think that you have to create symbolic link...
If you need more info on this..I could send you the URL..where you could get the patch..
send me an email..if you need futher assistance..I could then send you the url to get the patches from...
good luck.

  • Instant client support for oracle rac ?

My questions is does instant client support rac ?
    example : tnsnames.ora
    RAC =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = DB1-VIP)(PORT = 1521))
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = DB2-VIP)(PORT = 1521))
    (LOAD_BALANCE = yes)
    (CONNECT_DATA =
    (SERVER = DEDICATED)
    (SERVICE_NAME = RAC)
    (FAILOVER_MODE =
    (TYPE = SELECT)
    (METHOD = BASIC)
    (RETRIES = 180)
    (DELAY = 5)
    )

If you are asking if Instant Client can connect to a RAC cluster, the answer is yes. There is no functional difference between a full client and Instant Client. I hope that helps!

  • Oracle Database XE Client(winXP) vs Oracle Database XE (linux)

hi everybody there, thanks for having some time for reading me.
i have a linux with Oracle Database XE, under linux with database user 'hr' i can make queries and create applications, that is ok.
also, i've installed Oracle Database XE Client on windows xp machine, and i'am usin this option: Run SQL Command Line, this prompts me to enter user and password, and i am entering this:
    connect hr/[email protected]:1521
after a few seconds, i get this error: ORA-12560: TNS:Protocol Adapter Error.
192.168.0.102 is the IP address from my linux database, 1521 is the default port (i am using this port).
is this client looking for file tnsnames.ora? what else do i need on client (or server), to connect to my linux database?
my final aim is to connect from Developer 9i (winxp) to my linux database (in fact, i have the same error of above, trying this), only that i am trying first just to connect from Client XE to my linux, and when i get success with this, i will continue trying with Developer 9i.
if someone can guide me with this, it would be great. i am becoming crazy.
    thanks.

    hi, thanks friend.
look, as i also installed Developer 9i, i have a directory where i put a tnsnames.ora file, this directory is: d:/OraDev9i/network/admin
i don't know if Client XE, looks for this directory?, if i would not have installed Dev 9i, where can i put this tnsnames.ora file for Client XE to read it?
well, let's asume Client XE looks for directory above, this is my tnsnames entry, pls check it:
    XE =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS_LIST =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = localhost.localdomain)(PORT = 1521))
    (CONNECT_DATA =
    (SERVER = DEDICATED)
    (SERVICE_NAME = XE)
    EXTPROC_CONNECTION_DATA =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS_LIST =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = IPC)(KEY = EXTPROC_FOR_XE))
    (CONNECT_DATA =
    (SID = PLSExtProc)
    (PRESENTATION = RO)
i don't know if there is something wrong with this, please help me.
i did what you told me:
    connect hr/francis2010@XE
    and i got this:
ORA-12154 TNS: Could not resolve service name
also, i tried changing 'localhost.localdomain' to my linux IP address: 192.168.0.102, and i get the same error message. how do i know where Client XE is reading my tnsnames?
about the listener, i checked with this: sudo /.../init.d/... status, and it seems it is ok, remember i can work well in linux wiht hr, the port is ok, and i also checked with lsnrctl status, and i got LISTEN, so it seems is ok.
sorry, and thank you for your support, maybe this is easy but as i know the basics, i am lost.

  • Oracle Forms 6i client/server against an Oracle 10gR2 database

    Hello
    We have the following situation:
Oracle Forms6i/Reports6i client server application against an Oracle 8i cost-based database. we want to migrate this application
    step 1:
Migrate the database to 10gr2, but do not touch the client application
    Go live
    step 2:
Migrate the development environment to 6i webforms.
    Production environment stays client server.
With this construction we can still create new patches/functionality.
    step 3:
    Migrate to Forms10gR2 (and reports)
I know Forms 6i is not supported anymore.
My question is on step 1.
When I read NOTE: 338513.1 entitled "Is Forms/Reports 6i Certified To Work Against Oracle Server 10g Rel 1, Rel 2 or 11g?" carefully
it says that Forms 6i is not certified against 10gR2.
On OTN I read several posts that this works ok (assuming you do not use the wrong character set).
I also read on OTN that patch 18 (which is only supported for EBS customers) is certified against 10gR2.
    The questions:
    - Is Oracle Forms patch 18 certified against an Oracle 10gR2 database? (or only for EBS)
    - Is there anybody out there that can confirm that Oracle Forms 6i C/S works against Oracle 10gR2
    Regards Erik

    Thank you.
    Now I found it.
But how do I read that page.
    It says:
    Client Certifications
    OS      Product      Server Status
    XP      6.0.8.27.0 Patch 18      N/A      Desupported
    Application Tier Certifications
    OS      Product      Server      Status
    XP      6.0.8.27.0 Patch 18      9.2      Desupported
    XP      6.0.8.27.0 Patch 18      10g      Desupported
    I read this as follows:
Patch 18 was certified agains a 10g database in a webforms environment.
No client server mentioned and Server 10g , so no 10gR2!
    I'm I right?
    Regards Erik

  • Difference between Oracle ADF Mobile and Oracle ADF Mobile Client.

    Hi Experts,
I am new ADF Mobile app development. I found docs for Oracle ADF Mobile here as [http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E35521_01/doc.111230/e24475/toc.htm]. I was following it sequentially.
But when i searched for achieving offline data , data synchronization and using database for Mobile apps, i got another docs link [http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E23549_01/doc.1111/e14826/toc.htm] which is for Oracle® Fusion Middleware ADF Mobile Client .
So I got confused which one to prefer over the other..? Both support on device mobile apps.
do they have any difference over other or data sync & db features are not available for Oracle ADF Mobile..? & available only for Oracle ADF Mobile Client..?
It would be much helpful if someone could provide clear difference between these two technologies.
    Thanks,
    Praveen S K

I made a topic and the 'same' question popuped up.
( ADF Mobile: Data synchronization )
In Mobile Client iOS is not supported, in ADF Mobile it is. That's the main difference (in my opinion).

  • Oracle 11.2 CLIENT CAN ACCESS THE ACFS File ???

I am planning to configure Oracle 11.2 RAC lab set with following way.
    1. Install Oracle 11.2 database RAC with two servers.
    2. Install the Oracle 11.2 Client on two additional servers.
    3. All the 4 servers are equipped with HBA Card and can reach to shared Disk Array.
Question- If i will configure the Oracle ACFS (ASM Cluster File System).
Can i share the file between all four servers means all the 4 servers can read/write on it ??? Or it will accessed only by Database servers ??
    Regards,
    Sumit

From the PL/SQL Packages and Types Ref Guide:
The set of files and directories that are accessible to the user through UTL_FILE is controlled by a number of factors and database parameters. Foremost of these is the set of directory objects that have been granted to the user. Assuming the user has both READ and WRITE access to the directory object USER_DIR, the user can open a file located in the operating system directory described by USER_DIR, but not in subdirectories or parent directories of this directory.
Lastly, the client (text I/O) and server implementations are subject to operating system file permission checking.
UTL_FILE provides file access both on the client side and on the server side. When run on the server, UTL_FILE provides access to all operating system files that are accessible from the server. On the client side, as in the case for Forms applications, UTL_FILE provides access to operating system files that are accessible from the client.
Also, from Support note 948187.1 "ACFS is a fully-POSIX compliant filesystem, and can be accessed through native OS filesystem tools and APIs. Additionally, ACFS can also be exported and accessed by remote clients via standard NAS File Access Protocols such as NFS and CIFS."

  • Cannot install oracle 10g R1 client on redhat as 4

I've got an oracle 10g r2 XE rdbms installed on a redhat as 4 system.
I am trying to install the pro*c precompiler on this system because it is not included in the 10g r2 installation. It's not included in the 10g r2 client either. Is oracle planning to drop support for this or what's going on with that?
I am now trying to install the oracle 10g r1 client for linux since it has the pro*c compiler included (or so I've read).
When I try to run the installer, it responds with:
Checking operating system version: must be readhat-2.1, readhat-3, SuSE-9, or UnitedLinux-1.0
    Failed <<<<
Any ideas as to what is wrong?
I'm running Red Hat Enterprise Linux AS release 4 (Nahant Update 4)
    Kernel version 2.6.9-42.ELsmp i686
    Werner

Does the logfile of the installer show more detailled error messages?
Try starting the installer with the -ignoreSysPrereqs option.

  • Anyone know where I can get Oracle 7.3 client for windows from ?

You pay the Oracle lawsuit? For using Oracle Client when Oracle currently provides Instant Client for free and allows it to be distributed with 3rd party/ISV applications? Doubt that Oracle will do that, or have a valid case - nor will it be in their best interest seeing that this is part of a migration to a later Oracle version (which means revenue for Oracle).

We have a customer who has a 7.3 DB still that we need to get that data out of to migrate. Is exp not available on that server platform? In which case schema exports can be done and then imported into the new database.
If I set up a secure FTP site would anyone be able to upload an ISO of the 7.3 client disk ?I will have a look to see for that Oracle Workgroup CD (it was a "free trial" distro at the time which I picked up at the local Oracle offices). The problem however is bandwidth cap. I'm still in a part of the world where broadband means around 32Kb/s thruput and being limited to the amount of b/w one can use (I'm capped to only using 5GB per month - which is not much).
I suggest however to log a service request with support.oracle.com - you are likely to resolve the problem much faster that way.

  • Does Instant Client support client result caching?

    Hi all,
couldn't find the answer to this question on the ic-FAQ (http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/database/features/oci/ic-faq-094177.html)
Does Instant Client support client result caching?
    Kind regards, Sander.

Yes. Like any other OCI feature, Client Result Caching is supported by Instant Client.
Besides OCI documentation, here is a link to white paper on Client Result Caching and other OCI features: http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/topics/php/whatsnew/building-best-drivers-131920.pdf

Where can I download the Oracle 10g R2 clients for Windows 7?

    Welcome to the forums !
Pl identify exact versions of "10gR2" and Windows 7. The only certified combination is 10.2.0.5 on Win 7 Professional or higher. Home version of Windows is not supported. Using uncertifed combinations will result in the software not working as advertised.
See http://docs.oracle.com/cd/B19306_01/relnotes.102/b14264/toc.htm#CIHCFAGA (see Step 4 - the 10.2.0.5 patch can only be downloaded by paying support customers at https://support.oracle.com)

  • Oracle Linux-SNA Protocol support

    Hello,
We have developed the product with client server architecture with client and server has capability to talk with each other
using either TCP/IP or IBM SNA protocol. Our application is an 32 bit application.
We now need to check whether the Oracle Linux has capability to support SNA protocol.
Can you please let us know whether the following the Oracle linux versions (*Oracle 5 64-bit, Oracle 5 32-bit, Oracle 6 64-bit, Oracle 6 32-bit*) has capability to support SNA protocol?
    Thanks in advance.

Do we have any document/reference stating the Oracle Linux does not provide SNA protocol support?I have not see the converse - any documentation from Oracle that Oracle Linux (OL) does support SNA. There are no specific SNA download components for OL at Oracle's edelivery site, and not Metalink/Support note found on this subject matter when searching for "Linux" and "SNA protocol".
Oracle itself do (or did) support Gateway products using SNA. From the few support notes on the topic, it seems that these are pretty old and refer to deprecated s/w.
I would be surprised if OL supports SNA. Or even IPX for that matter. IPv4 and IPV6 are the definitive standards. For fabric layers, there are the various Infiniband protocols (SRP, RDMA, RDS, etc). It's hard to see SNA or something like IPX featuring in this.
Best would be to ask this question to Oracle sales/marketing directly. Neither Dude or I work for Oracle and we've only conveyed our opinions in this regard.

  • License for Oracle Virtual Desktop Client

I am trying to find a statement by Oracle as to wither Oracle Virtual Desktop Client is considered freeware or not. At one time I thought I saw a statement to the effect that OVDC was provided with a current support agreement but I can't seem to find that statement now. Does anyone know where there is verbage to this effect?

I am afraid it is a bit more complicated than that. You can buy licenses per device or per named user. If you license per "named user" then you can install and use OVDC an as many devices as you wish. But if your use "per device" licenses, you'll need a license for each Sun Ray DTU and also all devices with the OVDC installed.
I found this on iTunes concerning OVDC for iPad:License: Use of Oracle Virtual Desktop Client requires a valid Sun Ray Software or Oracle Virtual Desktop Infrastructure license.Bjoern

    Hi
ODP assembly for 2.x was first released with ODAC 10.2.2.20, 10.2.0.3.0 and 10.2.0.4.0 are patch sets and not full installations so you have to have an insisting 2.x version of ODP already installed for the upgrade or it does not upgrade it if the machine never had a base install of ODP 2.x assembly. The way to get it is to install it into a new home or an insisting home already installed. So if you had already installed from the base release 10.2.0.1.0, that bundle only has ODP assembly for 1.x, you could install the 2.x assembly into the same home from the ODAC 10.2.0.2.0 bundle. If you start with a fresh machine then install from ODAC 10.2.0.2.21 to ODP .net 2 assembly and the base 10.2.0.1.0 client dependencies. Then you patch or upgrade to 10.2.0.4.0, but again when you apply the 10.2.0.4.0 patch set, you need to already have 10.2.2.0.20 already installed.
May I asked the specific installation bundle you used? and if you installed from ODAC 10.2.0.2.20. Do you have a C:\oracle\product\10.2.0\client_1\odp.net\bin\2.x directory and a C:\oracle\product\10.2.0\client_1\odp.net\ublisherpolicy\2.x directory? Can you show me the directory structure under C:\oracle\product\10.2.0\client_1\odp.net\...
