Oracle 8i or 9i Compatibility for  Mac OS X

Hai All..
The main point is whether oracle 9iAS will compatible on Mac OS X.
Kindly Clarify me whether there exists an option to install Oracle8i or oracle9iAS server on the Mac OS X.
If Possible tell me the links and hints how to install the database.
Just help me how the oracle 8i or 9iAS server database can be installed and the tables can be retrieved from any client.
Thanx

I'm sure your neighborhood Oracle Sales Representative can sort out all of that.

  • Port for Mac OS X

Will Oracle create a Java port for Mac OS X? When can we expect a Java port for Mac OS X? Is platform independence across major platforms still a mission for Java?

Do you think you could state the obvious a little better?
I realize like others that Oracle might have been blind sided by this and may need some time to figure out what they can and can't do legally, but a statement from them isn't too much too ask.
Oh, you did leave out one option.
    1. Dump Java and move on to another language.
This isn't an option that I want, and hope never happens, but this action by Apple has put a slight hold on our companies position toward the Macintosh in our environment AND also made us start to look at our language choice(s) again. A statement from Oracle isn't an unreasonable request.

  • Font compatibility with Office (for Mac and Windows)

    Hi,
Despite extensive searching, I'm struggling with a font compatibility issue between my Mac and my colleagues' PCs. The main points in order:
The fonts work correctly on both my Mac and other PCs.
The font in question is HelveticaNeueLT Std, rolled up into which are several different weights. The files are OTF files. The same files install without any problems on all the computers in question (and show up in Font Book). And the font can be used successfully:
    - in Keynote, I select Helvetica Neue LT Std, and underneath choose whichever weight I want
    - on PCs, the font and weight can be selected from the drop-down list in MS Office.
    - in Office for Mac 2016 (Preview), I cannot select the font from the drop-down list, but can hit Cmd+T, and then select the appropriate font and weight under 'Latin text font'. What is odd is that in the dropdown list, only a particular weight/typeface is shown:
As this is a preview version, I wouldn't expect Office to work perfectly just yet...
When a file is created on a PC, it works fine on my Mac.
Every file I have attempted to open that was created on a PC, and using these fonts, works fine. The fonts display correctly (i.e. including the correct weights), and I can work with the document without any problems. The only odd bit: sometimes in the dropdown box on my Mac it then says (null):
Whereas at other times, the font name shows correctly:
Both of those examples were created using the 'Thin' weight of HelveticaNeueLt Std. I can't see any pattern as to what causes this inconstency.
The problem is that what I create on my Mac shows incorrectly on a PC.
If I create anything using Office 2016 or Keynote, selecting the preferred weight as described above, it shows just fine on my Mac. But when I send the PPTX file to a PC, all weights look identical (it looks as though the PC has just displayed everything in a standard weight). This is the problem I am trying to solve.
To try to get around this, I tried the process of removing the Helvetica/Helvetica Neue .dfont files that come with the Mac - but this didn't work and caused several other problems. Besides, the font I'm trying to get to use as intended has a different name.
All help would be greatly appreciated - my thanks in advance.
    John

Thanks Kappy and apologies if it is inappropriate - but just to clarify, my main question is whether fonts used in Keynote should be compatible with other software (in this case Office running on Windows). The Office for Mac Preview is a bit of a red herring but I thought it should be mentioned.
I tried to clarify my first post, but it didn't work. What I wanted to add was simply whether Keynote handles fonts in a way that other pieces of software struggle to read - despite the font itself working perfectly in both environments.

  • Oracle for Mac OS 10.5.6

    Hi all,
I am new to apple mac book. I am using the latest macbook with OS 10.5.6
I am looking to install Oracle database on my macbook.
I dont have much idea how to do it so thought i can ask here.
Is there any direct installation available for mac like windows or i have to go for partitioning my drive and
load another OS (windows or linux) and then install the database?
Kindly help me with this even i have to install vmware or partition my drive.
If so i will prefer installing linux OS.
Kindly provide me with some tutorials on this if possible.
    Thanks,
    Regards,
    Shane

    Hi Shane,
Oracle has only released client software for Intel Macs, but not the full database server software. If you want to run the Oracle database on your Mac, I suggest installing on a supported OS running in a virtual machine (VMware Fusion, Parallels, or VirtualBox). Michael McLaughlin has a very thorough post on his blog about using an Intel Mac as a client for a database server running in VMware Fusion.

    John P.

  • Windows compatibility; Delete key, view, Office for Mac and  Hassels

    Dear Friends
I liked the style of the Mac powerbook, and after years of happy use of a Samsung notebook, I decided to take the plunge and buy a Mac. I amlo liked the idea of contributing to diversiy and not putting all my bucks in Gates's basket! People assured me there would be no compatibility problems bwteeen Office for PC and Office for Mac. So I moved from PC to Mac, but have had lots of problems. I have a powerbook 12". My main issues are that:
    1. Word and Powerpoint for Mac do not always convert properly when I take my files to work where I have to use PC. I find editing in powerpoint for Mac less easy than PPT for windows. Before an important presentation at an international conference recenly, the file I worked on on my Mac came out all funny when I loaded it onto the windows laptop that was already set up. I lost a good five minutes ******* around beore an international audience. Someitmes formatting in Word for Mac jumps and highlights and bold and bullet points go all srtrange or are lost when I take the file to work.
    2. The keyboard of the Mac is frustrating. I usually delete rightward; to do this on a Mac I have to hold down Fn and then delete, i.e. two finger operation. I always screw up since I am so used to the delete key on my PC and my brain gets in a twist. Is there a way I can change this?
    3. The power book is quite heavy (a simple moan as I travle a lot).
    4. Word, PPT and internet pages do not cover the whole screen, just the left half to three quarters, with a strip of unused screen on the right. I have been unable to make word for Mac ect cover the whole screen, so I always have to adjust the view size and then half the text is cut off. I would like to see the whole screen used. This is frustrating as the Mac has a kind of grainy screen.
    Any suggestions?
    Chris

    1. For problems related to Microsoft Office you should post your questions to Microsoft's own Mac discussions:
    http://www.microsoft.com/mac/community/community.aspx?pid=newsgroups
    2. If you want to "forward-delete" on a Mac without hitting the function key, then you'll have to purchase a full size Apple USB keyboard.
    3. Sorry. Can't help with that one. Maybe you should have bough a ligther 15" Powerbook.
    4. Again, sorry, but that's not a bug, it's a learning curve. Longtime Windows users seem to be more often than not used to working with applications and windows that cover the whole screen. Mac users generally don't. Just drag the windows over to the right or click the green maximize button at the top left of each window.

  • JSP demo PTS included with Oracle 9i Developer Release for Mac not working

Hello all, please pardon my ignorance, but I am an Oracle DBA not a JSP programmer.
I have installed Oracle 9i developer release for Mac OSX and it included a demo application in JSP called pts.
I followed all the instruction and it still doesn't seem to work.
When I try to login to the application I get the following exception:
    exception
org.apache.jasper.JasperException: Unable to compile class for JSP
An error occurred at line: 3 in the jsp file: /oradev/pts/solmktinit.inc
    Generated servlet error:
[javac] Since fork is true, ignoring compiler setting.
    [javac] Compiling 1 source file
[javac] Since fork is true, ignoring compiler setting.
    [javac] /usr/local/jakarta-tomcat-4.1.24/work/Standalone/localhost/_/oradev/pts/login_jsp.java:7: cannot resolve symbol
    [javac] symbol : class DBAccess
    [javac] location: package pts
    [javac] import oradev.pts.DBAccess;
I'm not sure what this means or how to fix it. I'm sure it's something simple like modifying my classpath or something, but, as I said, I don't know where to begin.
Any assistance or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Can't you just use the 10g client ?
I have not tested the 9i dev. with oci calls but I would not be surprised if you try this on tiger. That won't work AFAIK.

    Ronald.

  • Is there any  ORACLE DB for MAC users ?

i had looking for Oracle express edition for MAC OS X platform
and it seems there is no one for it ( there is only for Linux / Windows )
any suggestion on how to get oracle and learn it on my MAC( Leopard) machine ?
actually its strange problem i thought Oracle will support MAC in any case while all other technologies ran on MAC ( Sun tech, PHP ,Apache , MySQL )
    any advise appreciated here

You might like the instructions on my blog for configuring the Oracle Client 10g on your Mac OS X after you install it in a VMWare Fusion virtual machine. Both Linux and Windows versions are available for Oracle Database 10g Express Edition. My students typically install it in a x64 XP Pro version. Allocate at least 1 GB to the VM.

  • Help needed for Mac OS X Snow Leopard and Oracle Database

Hello - I currently signed up for an online Introductory Course for Oracle...we need to download the Oracle Database and I was trying to download version 10g on my Mac. Do I need to have Mac OS X Server to do that? I currently run OS X 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard). Alternatively, I have a PC with Windows 8 - is there a download available for this machine?

Currently, there is no available database software that is certified with Mac OS X.
Which version of Win 8 ? If you have a certified version listed at Oracle Database Preinstallation Tasks , then you can download and install 12cR1 from Oracle Database 12c Release 1 for Microsoft Windows (x64)</title><meta name="Title" content="Ora…
If you have Home version. you will have to install VM software (such as free Oracle Virtualbox), then install Linux in the VM (free from https://linux.oracle.com), then install 11gR2 or 12cR1 in the Linux VM - pl google for my blog for detailed steps

  • Need Oracle Database 10g For Mac OS 10.4 PowerPC

Hi, I am looking for Oracle Database 10g for Mac OS 10.4 PowerPC. I need to run this software on a PowerBook G4. I would appreciate any download links or tips that can help.

I am using Virtual PC 7 running Windows 2000, but the emulator runs painfully slow. Things would run a lot smoothly if I had the PowerPC version of Oracle Database. I heard it exist.

  • Oracle 8i for Mac?

    Hi,
is there a version of the oracle 8i for download for Mac OS X? if not, can anybody tell me if there´s any oracle db for such an OS that runs in a computer with 384 mb of RAM
    thanks in advance

the problem with the 10g is that the documentation says that it requires a minimum of 512 MB in RAM..., that´s why i asked for the 8i, because this one needs 256 MB, and i think the 9i requieres also 512 MB...

  • Outlook 2011 for Mac + Oracle Outlook Email Integration On Demand

Does anyone know of a "Oracle Outlook Email Integration On Demand" plug in that'll work with Outlook 2011 for Mac?

    Hi,
Thanks for all of the responses - I have now done these suggested settings which has downloaded all of the separate inbox folders but I am still having a couple of errors:
1: If I delete an email on outlook 2011 it doesn't actually delete it from my email account
Are you 100% sure the account is now IMAP?
2: I am unable to send any emails I get an SMTP error?
Have you ticked the 'My outgoing server requires authentication' box in the outgoing server section.
3: I still have to click send/receive to receive any emails
This is for Outlook 2010 on Windows, but there will be something similar on your version. Go to File>Options>Advanced>Send/Receive where you should be able to set the parameters required.
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated

  • Where to get Old Oracle Drivers (for Mac)?

Hi, I need to run an old Mac OS 9 application (actually I'm trying with Classic under OS X on a Mac Mini G4)
This application needs the OCI library OracleOci73Lib.
I've been searching it in Oracle web downloads section, but i can't find it.
I've tried installing the newer OCI drivers, but these are for Mac OS X and I suppose Classic doesn't even "see" them.
Does anyone know where could I get old Oracle drivers?
    thanks!
