Oracle 8i Rel 3 (8.1.7) 32bit & 64bit on the same media?

I have a requirement to install Oracle 8i Release 3 (v8.1.7) on a Sun System. This is an upgrade to v8.1.5.
I have read the installation guide for Oracle 8.1.7 which lists the Solaris pre-reuisites as Solaris 2.6 and 2.7. The Installation guide for Oracle 8.1.7 64bit lists Solaris 8 on a sun4u platform as the OS prerequisite.
We have a sun4u suystem (Sun Ultra 10) and although we currently run Solaris 2.6 on the system we are willing to upgrade to Solaris 8.
The real question is: Does the Oracle 8.1.7 media include both 32bit and 64bit code or is the 64bit version a seperate purchase?
Ideally we would like to run 64bit Oracle, unless we have to pay extra for it!
Any ideas, help, suggestions or answers greatfully accepted.
Regards
Christian

Ideally we would like to run 64bit Oracle, unless we have to pay extra for it!It's on separate media. If you have a support contract with Oracle all you need to do is contact Oracle support and they'll
send you the 64-bit CD's. If you don't have a support contract you'll have to contact your Oracle sales rep and see what
they say.

  • Labview 32bit and 64bit on the same computer?

    Hi guys,
I need to setup a PicoScope Scope with 32bit dlls with my existing Labview-64bit-code. Can I run Labview 32bit and Labview 64bit on the same machine and let them communicate via shared variables?
    Thanks Jan

I'm currently using a ni scope on a 32bit machine and acquiring data over the network. It slows things down. I want to run the data acquisition on 1 computer to avoid the delay.
I could put the acquisition code in labview 32bit, but would rather avoid that, too.

  • For CF Server 9 developer win 64bit has the same running problems like 32bit, or more

    CFWACK8 reader:
Better install CF Server stand alone - so no need  Apache? For CF Server 9 developer windows 64bit has the same running  problems like 32bit, or more?
I have installed  http://www.apachefriends.org/en/xampp-windows.html ..WAMPP, well Mysql  may used by this CF Server 9 developer, although book use Apache Derby  embedded to cf server?
CFEclipse plugin may installed either in my (separate) Flash Builder 4 or Eclipse Helios, or only to latter?

CF 9 64-bit will generally be your best choice on a 64-bit platform, unless you specifically require something that's not available in 64-bit, like COM.
For development, the built-in web server is fine. But if you want to learn how to manage a web server, it's good to install Apache and configure CF to use that.
You may use any SQL engine for which there are JDBC drivers, including MySQL. Apache Derby is used for demos, etc, because it's bundled with CF. You don't want to use it for real projects, though.
You can install CF Builder in any modern Eclipse, including Helios or Flash Builder. This is largely a matter of personal preference. I've encountered some features that don't work properly unless you let CF Builder install its own bundled Eclipse, but these are features that I don't use much anyway.

  • Need ACES attention - connection pooling in oracle 10g rel 1

I am using TOMCAT 5.0.19 Webserver and ORACLE 10g REL 1 as the database server. I have to restart the TOMCAT Webserver in order to establish connection atleast twice or thrice in a weak. Why I am unable to see the connection pooling in oracle 10g rel 1. How to revive or establish the setup. My objective is to have a centralised oracle 10g rel 1 database server and the applications of java are run thru centralised Webserver Tomcat 5.0.19.
Can anyone please help me out optimizing the design setup.
    Regards
    Vijay Kumar

by putting 'Need ACES' in your post title, you might have actually reduced the number of people reading your post, in other words someone >who might have suggested Thanks John for your reply. I changed the subject of the thread after not getting any reply for past 10 days. Last two days I have been updating with plea for attention to my problem. Finally I thought pulling attention of ACES, then only I edited the subject.
Now, problem I am facing is not in oracle database but in application server. Actually we are running web applications thru Tomcat accessing Oracle 10g rel 1. I am often losing connection with web server. The users are unable to login in the web application. I was told to check oracle database server. I just checked alert log and found no errors. I just asked them to shutdown and restart the web server Tomcat 5.0. It then worked fine. This is temporary. I need to ensure where the problem is. Could you please guide me in checking various parameters or files to be checked to optimise connection pooling.

  • Small correction in oracle 9i Rel.2 docs, under manually database creation

    Friends,
There is a small correction in the oracle 9i Rel.2 documentation under, creating database manually. The mistake is that they define temptablespace file as DATAFILE, where as, it suppose to be, TEMPFILE. If any one uses this script from docs. to create database manually, it will throw an error.
    http://download-west.oracle.com/docs/cd/B10501_01/server.920/a96521/create.htm#1003614
Using TEMPFILE inplace of DATAFILE would solve the problem.

    Hi Nyanga,
The migration tools can be used to migrate to Oracle 9i.
But we try and keep the conversion compatible with Oracle XE / Oracle 10g and up.
So you may have issues migrating to Oracle 9i like you said, with he sqlserver_utilities package and using 10g syntax.
Creating the repository on Oracle 9i is not supported.
But even if you did succeed , it would not change how the conversion was done. You would still end up with an identical sqlserver_utilities package which was generated using the migration repository on an Oracle 10g database. sqlserver_utilities package definition itself is fixed within a file so regardless of the repository used the same one will be generated.
Oracle XE can be used of course as the repository and its free to download and use.

  • Running Tuxedo8.0 on oracle 8.1.6 and oracle 10.2.0.2.0 on the same machine

    Hello,
    I have oracle 8.1.6 64 bit and oracle 10.2.0.2.0 64 bit
running on the same hp UX 11i 64-bit machine
I have installed Tuxedo 8.0 32bit on the same machine.
I have a working tuxedo 8.0 environment running against the 8.1.6 oracle
    database
in the Tuxedo .../udataobj/RM file I have for the 8.1.6 environment the string
    Oracle_XA:xaosw:-L${ORACLE_HOME}/lib -lclntsh
In oracle 8.1.6 home there are directories lib and lib64
but in oracle 10.2.0.2.0 home there are directories
    lib and lib32
what string should I use for the oracle 10.2.0.2.0?
    Oracle_XA:xaosw:-L${ORACLE_HOME}/lib32 -lclntsh maybe???
Must the string in the RM file for oracle always begin with the string
    Oracle_XA?
If so is, possible at all to run the the binaries of one Tuxedo installation
against two different databases versions because the RM strings are similar in
the beginning but in 8.1.6 refer to the lib directory and in 10.2.0.2.0 refer
    to the lib32 directory ?
Or do I need to have two installations of tuxedo8.0 binaries on the machine?
I have tried to for 10.2.0.2.0 the line (the Ora10_XA is only a try...)
    Ora10_XA:xaosw:-L${ORACLE_HOME}/lib32 -lclntsh
in the RM file but when starting tuxedo I get:
    $ cat /mnt04/edu/ressu/bin/xa_NULL06092006.trc
ORACLE XA: Version 10.2.0.1.0. RM name = 'Oracle_XA'.
    111035.16584.0:
    xaogetmod: XAER_INVAL; Invalid xa_info string.
Any comments on the matter appreciated.
    rgds,
    Jyri

    Jyri,
The information before the first colon in the $TUXDIR/udataobj/RM file is
only used by the buildtms, buildserver, and buildclient programs to find the
line corresponding to the value of the -r option, so it should be OK to
specify different values for Oracle 8.1.6 and Oracle 10.2.0.2.0.
The information specfied in the OPENINFO string in the *GROUPS section of
the TUXCONFIG file must be of the form
    OPENINFO="ORACLE_XA:Oracle_XA+...."
The strings ORACLE_XA and Oracle_XA cannot be changed, except for case. The
"...." can be replaced with parameters such as
SqlNet=NAMESesTm=100+LogDir=.+MaxCur=5 or whatever is used in your
applicatino. The "xaogetmod: XAER_INVAL: Invalid xa_info string" error you
are getting is due to an incorrect OPENINFO parameter.
If you are running a 32-bit version of Tuxedo you must link with the
${ORACLE_HOME}/lib32 library on 10gR2; if you are using a 64-bit version of
Tuxedo you must link with ${ORACLE_HOME}/lib library. The procedure is
similar for Oracle 8 except that it seems that the lib directory may be the
32-bit library in that version of Oracle.
32-bit and 64-bit binaries cannot be mixed under a single TUXDIR, but it is
possible to use multiple RMs or multiple versions of the same RM on the same
    machine.
The syntax of the open string and the list of libraries to link with is
specified in the "Oracle Database Application Developer's Guide -
Fundamentals" in the "Developing Applications with Oracle XA" chapter.

  • Multiple APEX instances sharing the same Oracle Home?

Can someone tell me if it is possible to have multiple APEX installations where the database instances are sharing the same Oracle Home? If so, how would this be set up?
So, if I have development and test running on the same home, I want a separate APEX instance for each. We can do this when different Oracle homes are used (separate httpd running) but not for the same home.
    Thanks

Thanks - We have tried putting 2 dad entries in file, but not sure how you connect. You only specify a port number, so how does it connect that to a db???

  • 10.1 and 10.2 Oracle Homes on the same clusterware

We are looking at moving our production databases to a three node database cluster running on a Sun Solaris platform. Out current production database is version 10.2.0.3 so we intend to install the database software up to patchset 10.2.0.3 and the Oracle Clusterware version 10.2.0.1.0.
At the same time we would also like to use this database cluster to run the asdb metadata repository for the Oracle Application Server 10.1.2 . It’s database is of version 10.1 so a 10.1 Oracle Home would need to be installed.
My first question is if it is possible to run a 10.1 and 10.2 home on the same cluster. I do realize that the clusterware will be 10.2.0.1.0 so the 10.1 database might not be able to run on it. If that is the case then I assume that we would also need to install clusterware 10.1.0.2.
This leads me to my second question which is: Is it possible to run two versions of clusterware on the same node? With different Oracle Homes running on top of it?
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Allan

Murali, Kevin, Thanks for the reply,
I will open a TAR to find out as to whether the Oracle Clusterware is downward compatible.
Have you seen RAC installations where databases instances are running on two or more Oracle Homes of different versions at the same time? For example a database cluster which is used for test/development would have an Oracle Home which is at version 10.2.0.2. In order to perform tests on a database upgraded to 10.2.0.3 an Oracle Home would be cloned and then have the 10.2.0.3 patchset applied. Then a copy of the production database would be upgraded to 10.2.0.3 using the 10.2.0.3 home. In the end on the same cluster there would be test databases running on both 10.2.0.2 and 10.2.0.3.
    Thanks,
    Allan

If you follow these general guidelines, you will greatly increase your chances of getting a solution to your question in a shorter period of time. While your questions may make sense to you - when you post a question here, you have to remember that we do not have the same point of reference as you. You can't assume we will understand vague references like *"I want to make a form like Oracle form"*. I've seen so many different UI variations in Oracle Forms that a blanket statement like this has no meaning. The only thing that limits the funtionality of a Form is your imagination.
Perhaps, after reviewing the aforementioned articles, you could provide us with some basic information like your Oracle Forms version, Browser and version, OS and version and a more detailed description of the type of functionality you are trying to emulate. • Is it a bug in Oracle 10g rel 1

    You need exp from 10gR1.
Oracle works in downwards compatibility mode.
This means lower version clients can connect to higher versions server, not necessarily the other way around.
exp is a specific case as exp has sql statements hardcoded in the tool.
    Those statements are version specific.
(One would wish Oracle would change exp to bail out immediately when connected to a lower version database)Due to this only, I need the URL for client of version 10g rel 1 for the server 10g rel 1.

  • Does Oracle Linux Rel.6 have graphical capabilities

Installed Oracle Linux Rel. 6 on a stand-alone PC for testing. When the system boots it defaults to terminal mode automatically. What is required are graphical capabilities to load Oracle products (DB and OEM). Is this possible with this linux and how?

    Dude wrote:
At some point in history a computer was not even considered a consumer device. Sorry I don't understand why a graphical interface, which intends to make complex configurations easier to manage and more foolproof, should not be applied to "expert devices". It does not make it easier. That is a fallacy - the type of argument one gets from a Windows admin that only knows a GUI and nothing else. There are numerous times when dealing with the command line is not only far more powerful, but also far more easier. There are so many different types of configurations, many not to be found in any GUI. There are configurations that are too complex for a GUI. Etc.
Linux is not Windows. Linux does not have an all-configuration-in-one-basket registry. So the GUI centric approach to sys admin on Linux is not only the wrong approach, but a dangerous one.
As for the desktop interface, I have no problem if someone decides that their servers run best without it, and that a text interface and a bare metal engine is the way a computer should run. It depends on your environment and desires, and it is easy enough for someone with such requirement and technical background to customize a Linux system accordingly. But I'm not a fan of social engineering and don't think it should be disabled by default because it will give newcomers a harder time than required. So instead give newcomers a crutch called a GUI and hobble them for the rest of their lives, expecting a GUI to be the extend of what sys admin and configuration are on Linux?
To put this into an analogy. A Cessna single engine 152 pilot cannot simply expect to get into a twin turbo prop King Air and fly the plane. He cannot argue that the plane should be easy enough to fly for a pilot and that as he is a pilot he should be able to fly it. He first needs to learn how twins behave. What the envelope is. How the systems work. Etc.
Yes, he will need his basic piloting skills learned as a C152 pilot. But those skills alone do not suffice.
Similarly, newcomers to Linux sys admin should not expect to simply get into the driving seat and effectively and correctly install and configure it. There is a learning curve. Arguing that this learning curve needs to be mitigated by a GUI? That is like a C152 pilot arguing that he does not need to know the complexities of a twin as he can use the autopilot in his little Cessna and all he needs to fly the large twin is to use that plane's autopilot. It is nonsensical.

  • Effects of Oracle Upgrade from 10.2.0.1(32bit) to 10.2.0.4(64bit)

We are planning a Database Server upgrade. The current configuration is Red Hat Linux 4 (32Bit) and Oracle Database Enterprise 10.2.0.1 (32Bit). The proposed configuration is Red Hat Linux 5 (64Bit) and Oracle Database Enterprise 10.2.0.4 (64Bit).
No plans to change the middle-tier servers:
    O/S- Windows 2003
OAS- Oracle Application Server Lite [Forms and Reports Service]- Version 10.1.2.0.2 .
No plans to change the development tools:
    O/S- Windows XP SP2
    Oracle Forms and Reports - (32Bit) Version 10.1.2.0.2 .
Has anyone encountered any gotchas/compatibility issues we should be aware of ? Do we need to upgrade the middle-tier and Developer Tools at the same time ?
Many thanks in advance for any advice.

Our forms application runs against a databases runnung on lot of platforms, like
    HP-UX, AIX, WinServer 2k3, RedHat, Suse,...32 and 64 bit from 9.2.0.8 up to 10.2.0.4...
our development database is a 9.2.0.6 Windows Server 2003 32bit, and I haven't faced any problems on other platforms after moving to them (except the platform specific database bugs).
Only thing I can remember would be, if you make use of the utl_file package on the database - I'm sure you know the dos2unix and unix2dos fileformat problem.
so if you don't plan to change the middle-tier servers you should not run into serious problems (except a recompile of your forms against the new database could be necessary) to my mind. No need for changing middle tier and developer toos.
