Oracle 9.2.0 on SuSE 8.0 How to link

http://www.visi.com/~mseberg/o9howto.html

There are 2 things that need to be done prior to running the runInstaller program. As the user "root" type "xhost +localhost" (without the quotes). You may also use the TCP/IP address instead of using "localhost". Now, as the Oracle user type "export DISPLAY=localhost:0.0", then issue the command runInstaller.

    Hi ,
I suggest you to have a check with otn.oracle.com where oracle is supported with this OS. If so there must be some installation docs available.

  • Oracle 8.1.7 on SuSE 6.4

Can anyone recommend a procedure to install Oracle 8.1.7 on SuSE 6.4. It is for practice only so security is not an issue. My unix/linux is basic and I am new to Oracle. I am doing an Oracle dba subject at uni this semester and need access to 8i at home to reinforce it. System is running on AMD 400MHz with 192Mb ram and 400Mb swap space.
    Regards,
    Peter

just read installation prerequired and run
./runInstaller. See also on www.suse.com they give an orarun.rpm to finish install.
    (to start/stop database on boot/shutdown).
I tryed RH,Mdk before and I had no problem to ran Oracle on a Pentium MMX 200 with 64 Mo ram :-) 256 Mo swap with suse 6.3 whithout any patches and database files on reiserfs ... but it's just for practice to.

  • Oracle 8.1.5 on SUSE Linux 7.2 - Is it worth it?

    Hello-
I have been trying to install Oracle 8.1.5EE on SUSE 7.2 for
days now and the installation has been the worst I have
encountered in many a year! I am thinking about scapping this
whole thing and moving onto another RDMS. If and when I get
Oracle running on Linux will I be faced with these same
installtion problems in my day to day maintenence? For such a
well known company I sure thought they could come up with
    something slicker than this!
    Problems so far:
JRE - Too many to list.
    OraInstaller:
    1. Does not show any Networking options
    2. Reports not enough space for a 4GB /u01
    3. Even when I select to "not" to run dbassist it does anyways
    Patch:
    1. I had to dig through mounds of documentation to find this
    patch was neccesary.
    2. Reboot. ?
    dbassist:
    1. Unset NLS_LANG etc...
    2. SIGFAULTS halfway thru process.
At this point I am ready to bag Oracle and go with PostgreSQL
    Sincerely,
    Davin Flatten

Look, nobody should be going to anything other than 901 on 7.2.
Do you like to waste your time? Fastcenter sells these systems,
they install without a flaw and they're rock solid. Why install
    a version that's unsupported ?!?

  • Oracle 8.1.7 on Suse 7.3

I am installing Oracle 8.1.7 on Suse Linux 7.3. I am getting the error 'Error invoking target relink of make file /oracle/precomp/lib/ins_precomp.mk' at 65% of relinking. I tried with unsetting LD_SELF_CONTAINED as mentioned here and re-running genclntsh under $ORACLE_HOME/bin, but it gives a lot of systax errors and finally the message create library /oracle/lib/libclntst8.a The relinking error continues. Is there any other solution?

    Hallo,
Can you send me the page 817_73.html ?
The link is not accessable !
    Thanks

  • Compiling Apache 1.3.9 & PHP 3.0.12 to use Oracle 8.1.5 on SuSe 6.2

    Hi!
I am trying to compile the above packets but am running into massive problems.
PHP3 compiles well, if i try to use the "normal" static module for Apache, but the Apache configure script says that it needs an ANSI C compiler and stops.
I am using GCC 2.7.2.3 with the bugfixes from SuSe.
Since that did not work I tried the configuration as a Dynamic Module. The Apache "Readme.config" explains two ways to do so, but the first has the same problem with GCC and the second (via APXS) compiles Apache without problems, but PHP3 wont compile since it does not find a library. The exact error is: "/usr/i486-linux/bin/ld: cannot open -lclntsh: No such file or directory"
I found a libclntsh.so.8.0 in the oracle/lib directory, but since i fumbled around with this library (i tried ln -s libclntsh.so.8.0 libclntsh.so) sqlplus says libclntsh.so.8.0: cannot find file data: no such file or directory (even now that the link is deleted again).
And PHP still wont compile. Any ideas would be welcome.
P.S.: Is it normal that Oracle has to be told NOT to create a database during install, TO create a database???
We worked for 3 days on the Oracle installation and that was the only way to install Oracle without errors.
    thx

  • Install oracle 9.0.1 on suse 8.1

    Hy all,
during installation Oracle client on Linux (suse 8.1)
i get the following error message (linking the ins_plsql.mk):
    /usr/lib/gcc-lib/i486-suse-linux/3.2/../../../../i486-suse-linux/bin/ld: cannot find -lclntsh
collect2: ld returned 1 exit status
    Who can help?

I had this problem before, the soultion was to do either of the following option then after finsihin press on retry and i hope it will work.
(The soultion i got from an Oracle OCP, so thinks to him)
Solutions for the relinking problem seen with Oracle 9.0.1 on Red Hat 7.1.
Option 1: (remove "-z defs" from genclntsh file) (Workaround)
    1. When you get errors from OUI installer, open a window, and cd to the Oracle Home installation target location
    2. Set Oracle environment ORACLE_HOME to this target directory.
    3. Use editor to modify $ORACLE_HOME/bin/genclntsh file, to remove -z defs from it.
    4. Then run this script $ORACLE_HOME/bin/genclntsh to create Oracle libraries.
    5. Go back to OUI error window, and click on retry bottom to continue.
    Option 2: (update the binutils)
You have to follow these steps to solve the re-linking problem:
    1. Update the binutils-2.10.91.0.2-3 to binutils-2.10.91.0.4-1
    2. You can get the binutils patch at the following URL:
    http://www.ibiblio.org/pub/Linux/kernel.org/pub/linux/devel/binutils/binutils-2.10.91.0.4-1.i386.rpm
    3. Relink Oracle binaries.

  • Re Link Oracle 9.0.1 on SUSE 7.1

    Hi,
I've a problem relinking the oracle 9.0.1 binaries on LINUX SUSE 7.1
Installation was so far successful (thanx heaven) with exception of the link step(s) (of course, I can not start an instance at all => ORA-24314).
Trying "make -f ins_rdbms.mk ioracle" results in a fatal error: something link "don't know how to make target libskgxpd.a / libkulopt.a".
    These .a lib's are not present at $ORACLE_HOME/... , but I found libskgxpd.so and libkulopt.so.
What is the correct statement to link oracle ?
    Thanks in advance
    Heiko

please ignore this thread - I have opened a newer open above. Sorry.

  • Unable to install Oracle Developer Suite 10 on SuSe Linux 11.0

    Hi all,
I have installed Oracle 11g on SuSe Linux 11.0 with no issues. I am unable to install Oracle Developer Suite10.12.02 on same (SuSe 11.0). The installation gets to about 94% and then fails with the following error:

ps. What's also a bit odd, is that the overall exit status of the installation is regarded as succesful...
