Oracle 9i and IDS under sun solaris 8
Need some help on oracle 9i and IDS under sun OS
i want some clariffication in my project.
If i develop my application under "sun solaris 8" OS for x86 with "oracle 9i"
as the backend and "IDS" (internet developer suite) as the front end, Can my
application be ported to the other environment i.e "SUNFIRE 280R" as the
server with sun solaris 8 as the OS and the same DB and front-end ?.
will there be any porting problems ?.
i am new to this environment.And i don't have SUNFIRE 280R server with me and
the customer won't supply it.
can anybody guide me please ?.(i am looking for the suggestions form those who
really worked on this environment.)

Oracle 10g R2 installation on sun solaris 10 Sparc machine
Hi there,
I encountered the following problem during oracle 10g R2 installation on sun solaris 10 Sparc machine
Error encountered:

The following were the steps taken before encountering the above error
1. logged into a workstation
2. From its xterm terminal I logged to the oracle server via ssh oracle@ip
3. keyed in the following at the command prompt
DISPLAY=machine_name:0.0; export DISPLAY
4. executed the following from the command prompt
./runInstaller
Note: when executing the ./runInstaller, the preinstallation checking just hangs at Checking monitor: must be configured to display at least 256 colors. But the log file shows it failed during preinstallation checking as shown in Error encountered
Please help me with this problem.
Thank you
Ravindran KanniahIt is because of UNIX shell. I also faced this error during installation.
First check your shell by the following command.
$ echo $SHELL
Then select the below.
For csh shell
$ setenv DISPLAY 192.168.1.128:0.0
$ export DISPLAY
For sh,ksh and bash
$ DISPLAY=192.168.1.128:0.0
$ export DISPLAY
After you do this check the value of DISPLAY variable.
$ echo $DISPLAY
If the DISPLAY variable is set then run ./runInstaller.
One advice: Keep a complete log of your terminal session. This will help you in future :)

Memory Management comparison between Database 9208 and 11gR2 on Sun Solaris
Hi All,
Need some case studies which would help understand how Memory management is done in 9208 and 11gR2 on Sun Solaris SPARC
Also wanted some real time data which says 11gR2 manages Memory and CPU better than 9208. Some comparison Graph between 9i and 11gR2.
Any information will be of great help.
Thanks everyone for your support.

Forte M2 and Oracle 8.1.6 on Sun Solaris 2.5.1
Anybody out there running Forte M2 with Oracle version 8.1.6?? The best
would be on a Sun Solaris 2.5.1 machine.
Our Oracle dba wants to upgrade for another application but Forte's
certification matrix only goes up to Oracle 8.0.3
Any experiences with version M and Oracle 8.1 would be helpful.

I can't help you solaris tuning, but some things to look at.
1. Is the Essbase.cfg file the same on both servers? You might have parallel calculation turned on in one and not the other. Caches could also be set differently
2. Are the database caches set the same? This could impact performance as well
3. Are you doing an apples to apples comparison? Is one database loaded and recalculated many times while the other is not (or restructured or reloaded) -
Hello my 'last hope',
My little problem is:
I developed an 'application' with forms 6 on a windows NT pc. This application has to run on a SUN Solaris pc. Everything is ok except: I can reach the OK / Cancel / Help button by keyboard navigation. I tried to find the solution in Oracle Terminal(mmmhhh not a nice tool).

Installation of Oracle 9.0.1 on Sun Solaris 5.8
Hi,
I am trying to install Oracle9i Enterprise Edition (9.0.1) on Sun Solaris.
I started the installer and the installation proceeded fine. When the installer asked for the second CD, I aborted the installation as the second cd was not available to me at that time.
After obtaining all the 3 installation CDs, I started the installer once again and the installation GUI does not show up. This is what I get
$ ./runInstaller
$ Initializing Java Virtual Machine from /tmp/OraInstall/jre/bin/jre. Please wait..
This ".... Please wait..." prompt remains for ever.
Could somebody please give a pointer on what needs to be done to get the GUI running?

Generating reports in RTF and Excel on Sun Solaris
hi,
Could any one of u out there kindly tell me if it is possible to generate reports in RTF and Excel formats on a Report Server running in Sun Solaris machine. We use Reports 6i.
Because I am able to generate a report in RTF format on report running in Windows NT machine, but on Solaris i get a message that the Reports Server terminated abnormally!.
Thanks,
Prabhu SCould you please tell us whether you fllowed any special procedures
or made some specific settings to launch RTF reports ?Can't help much, I'm afraid. The report and web server settings were
all made before I got here, and are not visible to me.
We can get RTF from report builder/generate-to-file and when running
reports on the web. Our servers are all Sun/Solaris boxes, although
we display on DOS boxes. Excel we get from a program, not from the
report server.
Report builder 6.0.8.10.1, database claims to be 8.1.7.0.0.
Sorry I can't help much more than saying "yes, it can be done".

ODBC connectivity between Oracle 11G and MSSQL Server on Solaris 10
When we were running in 10G, I was able to successfully configure hsodbc using unixODBC and freeTDS to allow for an ODBC connection between Oracle and MSSQL Server.
A few weeks ago we upgraded to 11G and I've been struggling to get the connectivity (dg4odbc) working.
In our 10g environment unixODBC and freeTDS were compiled as 32-bit. I have recompiled them as 64-bit and switched over to an 11G listener and I am getting the following error:

Oracle 9 and PHP under Redhat 9
Hi,
I am planning to migrate my current web server from
redhat 7.x to 9 and I am currently evaluating what may
go wrong or need special attention before I actually
replace it.
After searching the archives and other lists I still
have a question :
a) oracle support
For the current setup I've downloaded and installed
the oracle 8i (8.1.5) in a separate machine, tar.gz
the lib directory in order to compile and run php with
oracle 8i in my production server.
Is this the best approach for Redhat 9 or should I try
to install oracle 9 which hopefully may have a
devel-only option ? Note that php needs to access
external oracle 8 servers which I do not mantain so compatibitity issues are important.
Regards.I'm in a similar situation where i'm migrating from Win2k + PHP & want oracle support to connect to a remote server.
I got as far as installing redhat 9 & installing the oracle client.
I still can't get oracle to work in PHP though. doing a bit of research I dont think the redhat 9 RPM's come with oracle support compiled. I really dont want to be maintaining custom compiled php versions i'd rather just have up2date do it all. I hear you can get ODBC to work with oracle, but most of the stuff i've looked at covers doing this on windows, not linux.
If anyone out there has manager to get PHP & oracle working on RH9, without re-compiling PHP please let me know! -
Sun Solaris 10,Upgrade 8 or higher,having issues with VxFS,for Oracle 11gr2
A while ago, we tried doing a prototype upgrade of our main Oracle 10g db to Oracle 11gr2.
The OS on which our Oracle 10g is running is Sun Solaris 10, upgrade 4.
According to Oracle 11gr2 documentation, we need Sun Solaris 10, upgrade 6 or higher for Oracle 11g2.
The filesystem we are using is VxFS, Veritas File System.
According to our system administrator, we had issues , making Sun Solar 10, upgrade 8 , work with the VxFS filesystem.
I was wondering if anybody is running Oracle 11g2 on Sun Solaris 10 upgrade 6 or higher with VxFS file system.
At present, our Oracle db upgrade project is on a hold, because of the above issue. So your help on this , can really help us in figuring out if there is an issue between VxFS filesystem and Sun Solaris 10 OS.
Thanks
AshishHi Ashish,
We are not running Veritas Cluster file system.
We tried moving our Oracle 10g r2 db on ZFS ,before doing the upgrade and performance on ZFS was worst.
ZFS has certain memory parameter setting. If you did not configure that then ZFS will eat your complete system memory.
My system administrator, has gotten a copy of Solaris 10 upgrade 9 and will try that with VxFS.
I was curious to find out if folks are running Oracle 11g on Sun Solaris 10 with VxFS file system and if they had experienced any issue.If you can Install Vxfs on Oracle Soalris 10 U9, then according to me there sholudn't be any limitations for an oracle database.
Recently i installed Oracle database 11.2.0.2 on one of my test server. I have created two databases - one on ZFS and another on ASM.
Refer:
http://appsdbaworkshop.blogspot.com/2010/10/installation-of-11202-on-oracle-solaris.html
We dont have any performance issues. We are testing it for the performance benchmarks on both of the filesystem.
If you can Install Vxfs on Oracle Soalris 10 U9, then according to me there sholudn't be any limitations for an oracle database.

Explanation
/etc/inittab : o/s의 초기화 과정을 조절하는 화일

이 스크립트는 $ORACLE_HOME/bin/dbshut 스크립트를 실행시켜서 오라클을
shutdown 시킨다.
PATH=/usr/sbin:/usr/bin
set `/usr/bin/who -r`
if [ x$9 = "xS" -o x$9 = "x1" ]
then
echo 'The system is coming up. Please wait.'
BOOT=yes
PATH=/usr/sbin:/usr/bin
echo 'The system is coming down. Please wait.'
# make sure /usr is mounted before proceeding since init scripts
# and this shell depend on things on /usr file system
/sbin/mount /usr > /dev/null 2>&1

# There should be nothing in /etc/shutdown.d.

4. /etc/init.d/dbstart 와 /etc/init.d/dbshut 스크립트를 만들어야 합니다.
/etc/init.d/dbstart 화일은 다음과 같이 만듭니다.
su - <oracle_owner> -c <$ORACLE_HOME>/bin/dbstart
/etc/init.d/dbshut 화일은 다음과 같이 만듭니다.
su - <oracle_owner> -c <$ORACLE_HOME>/bin/dbshut
5. /etc/rc2.d/S99dbstart 화일을 /etc/init.d/dbstart에 대한 link로 생성합니다.
ln -s /etc/init.d/dbstart /etc/rc2.d/S99dbstart
6. /etc/rc0.d/K01dbshut 화일을 /etc/init.d/dbshut에 대한 link로 생성합니다.
ln -s /etc/init.d/dbshut /etc/rc0.d/K01dbshut
7. /var/opt/oracle/oratab
ORA805:/oracle4/ora8/app/oracle/product/8.0.5:Y
ORA815:/oracle4/ora8i/app/oracle/product/8.1.5:Y
svrmgrl <<EOF
connect internal
startup
exit
EOF

Reference Documents
noneHi Frank,
This is a bug in 9.0.1. It is fixed in 9.2 and
backported to 9.0.1.2 (rdbms 9.0.1.2 patch). Note that you
need to specify the sdo_indx_dims=2 in the parameter clause.
As a workaround in 9.0.1.0 you could do:
(1) remove the z coordinate (as you mentioned),
(2) set the srid to null (instead of 8307) both in
the geometries as well as the index metadata,
(3) set geodetic=false in the create-index parameters.
Hope that helps,
Ravi.
