They didn't find it so difficult to upgrade the OS to a bleeding edge version .... so why do they find it difficult to upgrade the Oracle client? Are they also running MS Office 95, "because it's not so easy to upgrade"?
In big organizations, new desktops are built from an image, and that image can just as easily be built with a newer version of Oracle client, if need be.

As mention here home OS not supported, so as mention here again if you make some googling you can find link&blog which is mention to create WM machine, install linux(you can use OEL linux which is free and can be download from e-delivery site) than you can make 11g installation on it

I have Oracle 8i Client running on Windows 2000 Server. I need to connect to Oracle 8i Server running on Sun Box.
I have problems with connectivity.
When I do tnsping <service name>, I am geting the followiing
error:

Issue while Installing Oracle Data Access Software for Windows

All,
Iam getting the following error while installing Oracle Data Access Software for windows. Iam installing in WindowsXP, with Oracle 9i release 9.2.0.7.0 DB and client in the same Box.
It shows
The Specified Key key was not found while trying to GetValue
* Stop installation of all Products
* Stop installtion of this componenent only.
Kindly let me know why this error is showing up.

Issue trying to install Oracle Data Access Software for Windows

I am trying to install the Data Access software on one of my many workstations and am having an issue with one of them. When the installer comes up it gives me an error:
Invalid Inventory List and it exits.
What do I have to do to get it to recognize my oracle home?

Perhaps OpenVPN will work for you. Unfortunately you did not provide any OS information and VPN requirements.
You can find help to install and setup OpenVPN in Google. You might want to check the Fedora EPEL repository http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/EPEL to install the software using standard yum in Enterprise Linux.

Windows 8 installation of VPN Client Software (x86 64-bit version) results in "Icon09DB8A851.exe" on startup task

I've just installed a VPN Client Software for x86 64-bit version of Vista and Windows 7 (vpnclient-winx64-msi-5.0.07.0440-k9.exe) to Windows 8. It's working without problem except that it seems to add an entry "c:\Windows\Installer\{5FDC06BF-3D3D-4367-8FFB-4FAFCB61972D}\Icon09DB8A851.exe" onto startup task. I suspect the installer program (InstallShield) is not working properly. I'd like to know if anyone has same issue or my computer got infected in malware.

Hi I have installed and config to my client a ASA 5515 and everything is fine but. When I config L2TP/IPSEC VPN for the remote work bang I have a problem. When I config L2TP/IPSEC VPN to Windows 7 with native client on Windows everything is fine, but in Windows 8.1 is bad on 1 hour after VPN connection Windows 8.1 tries to renegotiate the connection and something happens and the connection is disconnected.

Deinstall Oracle 11g client hangs on Windows 7 Enterprise 64-bit

Hi,
I am trying to dinstall Oracle 11g client on Windows 7 Enterprise 64-bit but the process hangs when it reaches the following:
Removing Windows and .NET products configuration START
It just hangs there for ever!
Checking the log file C:\Program Files\Oracle\Inventory\logs\winprod_cleanup.out and I can see the last thing in there is ""Deconfiguring ODP.NET Component...""
Any idea what could be the reason?

I was able to resolve it...Apparently I was logged on as administrator when I invoked deinstall which caused it to hang when it came to the part where it was getting ready to deinstall the .NET components...I logged off and loged in as myself and invoked the deinstall and it completed successfully...

Currently in our company we have a Linux server in version Oracle9i Enterprise Edition Release 9.2.0.2.0 - Production.
The client machines are windows and have the same version.
Now we have another machine Oracle9i Enterprise Edition Release 9.2.0.8.0 - Production.
Which version of the client for Windows machines, should have access to it?

I can install only client for windows to access Oracle database in linux server.
The installer indicated by what I believe is the server. Or I'm much mistaken?
I could not find the MetaLink an installer for the client software.

Installing Oracle 8i client tools on Windows 2K Advanced Server SP2

I am having issues with installing Oracle 8i client tools on W2K Advanced Server SP2. The CD I have is labeled Oracle 8i Enterprise Edition, Release 3 (8.1.7) Win NT/2000 CSI# 2224188. The error message I get is that a dependency exist on having ORACLE.SWD.JRE 1.1.8.10.0 installed and the universal installer cant find it. The disk has a folder named ORACL.SWD.JRE with a subfolder named 1.1.7.30 which leads me to believe that the version of the file that shipped with this media is version 1.1.7.30.
Questions:
1. Why would Larry ship a CD with the wrong version of a file...just venting.
2. Where do I get the correct version?
3. How do I install it?
Any help would be appreciated.

If you have Pentium IV do following: find file symcjit.dll file in the oracle installation folder and rename it to symcjit.old.
try to run setup.exe located in the install/win32 folder.
Oracle9i on W2K
Install service pack 2 or higher
Virtual memory between 800 and 900 MB ( Recommended )
if for any cause setup.exe does not make anything,
try to make click on autorun.exe

Can anyone direct me to the above. If you've got an existing client software i.e. 9i Do you have to remove it first or it will be automatically be removed / upgraded. What are about the existing configuartions, will they be lost or will stay the same?

E.g: If you install 10g client, this will install it in a different home and you will keep both. When Installing the new version you can remove previous installations if you desire (This option is in the first or second screen if I'm not wrong).

Oracle 8i Client/ODBC with Windows 2000

Ever since I upgraded(?) to that wonder of modern science, I can't seem to get my Oracle client to work. I've tried every remedy on metalink and still nothing. It's always the same error shown below. Besides moving to Linux, what else is there for me to try?

I'm also having this problem.
I'm setting up a C++Builder Application to work with the Oracle
8i Release 2 (8.1.6) using ODBC. Both the clients and the server
are running Windows 2000 Professional. I get the error
"[Oracle][ODBC]Invalid datetime format" whenever I have a DATE
column with a NULL value in it. I tried downloading the latest
ODBC driver from the Oracle web site but this did not solve the
problem. Right now our only solution is to make all the
DATE columns NOT NULL. Do you have any other suggestions?

Oracle 9i Client crashes on Windows XP SP2

I am currently trying to install the Oracle 9i (9.2.0.1.0)Client on Windows XP with installed SP2.
A first fresh installation is always possible but trying to deinstall or show up the installed products leads to a crash of the OUI with an java.lang.NullPointerException logged in C:\Programme\Oracle\Inventory\logs.
Analysing the log files does not help me to fix the problem, but I think it is missing something, because further in the err-log it protocols something like
at oracle.ewt.button.PushButton.activate(Unknown Source)
at java.awt.Component.processEvent(Unknown Source)
Maybe someone of you can give me hint. Any help is highly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I just had a similar issue. Is the CLASSPATH environment variable already defined? If so check all the applications that are referenced by this CLASSPATH. I found one application to be using java 1.1.0 instead of java 1.3 or later.

Oracle 10G client Install on Windows

We recently had our Oracle client upgraded from Oracle 9i to Oracle 10G. Now when we sign into the Oracle Enterprise Manager Console, select a user schema and right click on a table to View/Edit Contents, the records display but when i select a record and try to right click to Add Row / Delete all i get is a solid gray bar, so i can't delete the record. I am thinking this may be a permission problem of how the client was installed, but have no idea where to start. Any help from anyone will be greatly appreciated.
