Oracle 9i R2 Client on a PC having Oracle 10g Database

Can I install and use Oracle 9i R2 Client on a PC having Oracle 10g Database on Windows XP Professional?
The reason for that; is because I can't do Export and Import operations from the mentioned PC (which having Oracle 10g) to other two remote databases where they have Oracle 9i R2 database.

OK, I have Windows 2000 Server and when I go to SQL*Plus and connect to my database, it's showing for me this:
Connected to:
Oracle9i Enterprise Edition Release 9.2.0.1.0 - Production
With the Partitioning, OLAP and Oracle Data Mining options
JServer Release 9.2.0.1.0 - Production
Also when I launch the OEM and goto Help-->About, it's showing the same version as above.
But when I look to other things, it's like this:
Oracle Home Directory: "C:\oracle\ora91"
System Services "services.msc": "OracleOraHome91Agent", "OracleOraHome91TNSListener", and "OracleServiceREPORTS" (REPORTS is my Oracle database name).
So how could I know what is my actual Oracle version?

  • Oracle 32 bit client to connect to a 64 bit database

    Hello Folks,
My problems start with installing Informatica and Oracle in my 64 bit machine, both are 64 bit software.
When I open Informatica to connect to Oracle, it opens with a 32 bit ODBC connector.
So, essentially I want to connect to a 64 bit database.
I was told it is possible using a 32 bit Oracle client.
So, now I downloaded the Oracle 11g 32 bit client.
My question is how to connect to use it to connect to a 64 bit database.
    Much obliged

    Hi,
    configure tnsnames.ora at client side....
    example: oracle 11g client 32bit
go to oracle home where you have installed oracle 32 bit clinet and then /network/admin directory and then create tnsnames.ora file...
    ex:
    PROD1_db1=
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = db1.com)(PORT = 1521))
    (CONNECT_DATA =
    (SERVER = DEDICATED)
    (SERVICE_NAME = prod1)
and then configure sqlnet.ora file as well
create sqlnet.ora file at clinet side
    NAMES.DIRECTORY_PATH=(TNSNAMES, EZCONNECT)
once above files creation completion try to ping your prod db
ex: your prod database name prod1
    tnsping prod1
go to cmd prompt type below
    sqlplus usename/pwd@servicenamethanks,
    DBC.

  • Oracle Installer crashes in Windows XP attempting to install 10g database

I downloaded the file "10201_database_win32.zip" from oracle, and attempted to install it on a Windows XP Professional 2002 with SP2. It crashes immediately, giving me no information at all. It starts with messages:
No pre-requisite checks found in oraparam.ini, no system pre-requisite checks will be executed.
Preparing to launch Oracle Universal Installer from C:\DOCUME~1\Windows\LOCALS~1\Temp\OraInstall2006-06-21_08046022PM. Please wait ...
Immediately after that, I get the windows messagebox saying:
oui.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close.
We are sorry for the inconvenience.
The only other information I can find is the InstallActions log file, which contains:
    Using paramFile: C:\Documents and Settings\Windows\My Documents\Doug\Internet Updates\Oracle\10201_database_win32\database\install\oraparam.ini
No pre-requisite checks found in oraparam.ini, no system pre-requisite checks will be executed.
    The commandline for unzip:
    C:\Documents and Settings\Windows\My Documents\Doug\Internet Updates\Oracle\10201_database_win32\database\install\unzip -qqq ../stage/Components/oracle.swd.jre/1.4.2.8.0/1/DataFiles/"*.jar" -d "C:\DOCUME~1\Windows\LOCALS~1\Temp\OraInstall2006-06-21_08-46-22PM"
If anybody can give me any help, I would appreciate it.
    Thanks.

The Installer crashes, then it surely should be something to do with memory issue...or the explorer.
    Is your windows xp stable?
plus do you have enough free space in your c drive ?!
It has nothing to do with the OS admin..login...
The installer is exiting and should be an OS resource issue..
i would have checked for space and memory ...then looked at my OS. Any back ground crazy internet programs running....
I would look at OS since oracle successfully installs in windows xp without a hitch!

  • Oracle Forms 6i client/server against an Oracle 10gR2 database

    Hello
    We have the following situation:
Oracle Forms6i/Reports6i client server application against an Oracle 8i cost-based database. we want to migrate this application
    step 1:
Migrate the database to 10gr2, but do not touch the client application
    Go live
    step 2:
Migrate the development environment to 6i webforms.
    Production environment stays client server.
With this construction we can still create new patches/functionality.
    step 3:
    Migrate to Forms10gR2 (and reports)
I know Forms 6i is not supported anymore.
My question is on step 1.
When I read NOTE: 338513.1 entitled "Is Forms/Reports 6i Certified To Work Against Oracle Server 10g Rel 1, Rel 2 or 11g?" carefully
it says that Forms 6i is not certified against 10gR2.
On OTN I read several posts that this works ok (assuming you do not use the wrong character set).
I also read on OTN that patch 18 (which is only supported for EBS customers) is certified against 10gR2.
    The questions:
    - Is Oracle Forms patch 18 certified against an Oracle 10gR2 database? (or only for EBS)
    - Is there anybody out there that can confirm that Oracle Forms 6i C/S works against Oracle 10gR2
    Regards Erik

    Thank you.
    Now I found it.
But how do I read that page.
    It says:
    Client Certifications
    OS      Product      Server Status
    XP      6.0.8.27.0 Patch 18      N/A      Desupported
    Application Tier Certifications
    OS      Product      Server      Status
    XP      6.0.8.27.0 Patch 18      9.2      Desupported
    XP      6.0.8.27.0 Patch 18      10g      Desupported
    I read this as follows:
Patch 18 was certified agains a 10g database in a webforms environment.
No client server mentioned and Server 10g , so no 10gR2!
    I'm I right?
    Regards Erik

  • ORA-12154 with Oracle 10.2 Client to 9.2.0.3 Database

I'm having a devil of a time getting connected to a new installation of Oracle 9.2.0.3 on Windows 2003. I have no problems connecting from clients running the 9i client. I have a server using the 10.2 client and it won't talk to the Windows server. I don't think it's the client installation since this server with the 10g client has no problems talking with Oracle 9.2.0.6 servers running on Unix. It's only trying to talk with the 9.2.0.3 on Windows.
I tried installing the 32-bit 10.2 client on a newly installed client, and it also can't talk to Oracle on Windows. Again, it has no problem connecting to the Oracle servers on Unix.
Here are the two types of Oracle servers
    Windows:
    Window Server 2003 32-bit
    Oracle 9.2.0.3 32-bit
    Unix:
    Sun Solaris 64-bit
    Oracle 9.2.0.6 64-Bit
Any help would be appreciated. I've tried Googling this, but can't find any helpful solutions. The thing that has me baffled is that I can connect to Oracle on Unix, it's just Oracle on Unix that has the issue.
    Thanks,
    Leonard Nisenoff

  • Cx_Oracle & Oracle's Instant Client

Hello there, first time here :) , im having many issues trying to set up cx_Oracle module on my Ubuntu OS. My question is if the Oracle's Instant Client version it must be the same as my Oracle's Server Version ??

There is no Oracle requirement for the client & database libraries to be exact. For example, Instant Client 11g will connect to 10g databases.
If you have a database on the same machine as Instant Client then you need to be careful about which tools pick up which of the two sets of Oracle libraries. This is a common problem for Windows users.
Also on Windows you do need to match the Oracle libraries to those that whatever tool (e.g. cx_Oracle) was built with.

"The database status is currently unavailable. It is possible that the database is in mount or nomount state. Click 'Startup' to obtain the current status and open the database. If the database cannot be opened, click 'Perform Recovery' to perform an appropriate recovery operation."
What am I doing wrong this time?
Your help would be greatly appreciated
    Thanks

  • Oracle 11g R2 Client Silent Installation Issue (PATH) Windows 7 x86

    Hi All,
I'm hoping somebody can shed some light on this issue.
I created a Response file using the 'Save Response File' method during an interactive installation on a Windows 7 Enterprise x86 client. (file enclosed)
I have installed it multiple times now with multiple permutations of the command line (got caught out by the old lower case F in responseFile) but now I'm getting the same error each time (a critical error with the PATH according to the installation log). There is nothing wrong with the path length as the installation works fine in GUI mode and passes the Prereq check.
I launch the command line to install (with Run As Administrator) - "[location of setup.exe]\setup.exe" -nowait -silent -responseFile "[location of response file]\Oracle11gv2.rsp"

  • "exp" with Oracle 11.1 client and 10.2 instance gives "MAXSIZE" error

My company has a lot of customers running lots of versions (and combinations of versions) of Oracle, so I like to come up with commands that will usually work for all of them. I recently installed Oracle 11.1.0.6 client on my PC, and this happened when connecting to a 10.2.0.3 database on an AIX machine:
    C:\temp>exp mfour/mfour@testdb tables=(bill_period_loc) file=bpl.exp
    Export: Release 11.1.0.6.0 - Production on Thu Jun 5 08:25:14 2008
Copyright (c) 1982, 2007, Oracle.  All rights reserved.
Connected to: Oracle Database 10g Enterprise Edition
          Release 10.2.0.3.0 - 64bit Production
With the Partitioning, OLAP and Data Mining options
Export done in WE8MSWIN1252 character set and
          AL16UTF16 NCHAR character set
server uses WE8ISO8859P1 character set (possible charset conversion)
About to export specified tables via Conventional Path ...
    . . exporting table                BILL_PERIOD_LOC
    EXP-00008: ORACLE error 904 encountered
    ORA-00904: "MAXSIZE": invalid identifier
    EXP-00008: ORACLE error 942 encountered
ORA-00942: table or view does not exist
EXP-00024: Export views not installed, please notify your DBA
    EXP-00000: Export terminated unsuccessfully
C:\temp>In the past I've had good results when using newer clients to exp/imp on older instances. Is there a switch or something to get this to work?

Although it may work (sometimes), using newer export versions against older database versions is neither recommended nor supported. So use the same export version as the target database.

  • Oracle 817 client and MS driver for oracle

    Hello
I had installed oracle 8.17 client on my machine.
Suddenly, my datasource with "MS driver for oracle" seems not to be working.
    I uninstalled 8.17 and installed 8.16.
No matter, what I do, I cannot get the datasource setup with "MS driver for oracle" work
    Anyone has similar experience
    -Aswath

What error message are you seeing? I've never seen any conflict between the Oracle and Microsoft drivers.
You could try downloading the latest version of the MDAC (Microsoft Data Access Components) from Microsoft <http://www.microsoft.com/data>. That will have the latest version of the Microsoft driver.
I'm assuming that you have already tried deleting and re-creating your DSN. If you haven't, that would be a good first step.
