And I use user oracle can creat file in folder audit, what can I do?
Eric,
this is wrong setup and this is the reason why oracle cannot write the audit file.
If the AUDIT_FILE_DEST is not set by user then
default value is ?/rdbms/audit
So set this value to another location (Note: don't use shell enviroment variables. Location must be writable for oracle)
or use the default location.

I think that Feedbak forum is not the best place for this problem.
You should ask this into

Help Required for Oracle 9i Installation on Fedora Core 3
I am new to Linux on Oracle and wanted to set up oracle on Fedora Core 3.
I have downloaded Oracle9i Database Release 2 Enterprise/Standard Edition
for Intel Linux from http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/oracle9i/htdocs/linuxsoft.html
I have downloaded it on Windows XP Can any one please suggest me what should be the next steps to install it on Fedora Core 3?
Thanks in advanceSo copy downloaded installation from Windows to Linux machine using SCP.
You can download GUI SCP client here: http://winscp.net/eng/index.php
If you preffer command line tool then you can use PSCP tool: http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/putty/download.html
Then use some installation steps for Fedora for example you can use mine (follow exactly all steps):
http://ivan.kartik.sk/oracle/install_ora9_fedora.html
Just little advice don't use root to login to Linux computer, use oracle instead (once it is created). -

Installed Oracle 9i on RH Fedora Core 1. Now what?
From the instructions on http://www.oracle-base.com/Articles/9i/Oracle9iInstallationOnFedora1.php and http://otn.oracle.com/tech/linux/htdocs/oracleonlinux_faq.html
I managed to install Oracle 9i on Linux, and have set up an ssh server, and use putty to access Oracle 9i from the windows machine at work. Works great (even though the web server don't start automatically allways on reboot).
But can people who actually work as system administrators tell me what I should do next. My education is as a programmer and building engineer, so I have gotten no administration experience. What is the next logical step an real administrator would do now (except the obvious thing as reading the 103567 pages of manuals that comes with Linux and Oracle)? I have done the following:
Set up ssh, downloaded putty for the windows user and work. Also installed vnc server (but have not understood how to make it work yet (from a windows machine)). Made all the passwords minimum 10 characters long with mix upper / lower case, with symbols and numbers mixed in.
Played around with the Fedora firewall. It is not very good though, so I turned it off (still have a firewall in my router... but like to have top security). If I use the firewall wizard, it only gives me very limited options (port 21, 22, 80 and two more), and the creation of a manual firewall file is way beyond me (yet). Like, I know that ssh uses port 22 and web server uses port 80, but what about nightly yum, up2date, messaging client, Wolfenstein ET etc?
And do real Linux administrators use some kind of virus protection like windows machines has?
Or is it some Linux or Oracle admin tool that is widly regarded as being good to have amoung administrators.
Or does my very limited knowledge of administration leave some huge holes in the defences?, that lets hackers simply walk straight into my computer and stuff around.
And with up2date and yum. How do I know that the updates I receive is safe from trojans etc. How do I know they are stable. Is it some place that guaranties "trojan free and stable" updates. (I have turned on something called nightly yum, and my best guess is that it does something, because the up2date icon in the gnome desktop is blue with a tick in it (I have ignored some perl updates since I don't use perl)).
And if (against all odds) my home made hobby type business should be a sucess (and I can leave my slow government job and work on web/database development :) ) , how can I contribute to the Linux community for everything it has done to me (in a way that would be to the best for the Linux community). Oracle 10g Express on Fedora Core 6
What a mess!!!! This thing does not want to work at all. Install (followed directions explicitly) seemed to go fine, but attempting to go to database home page just comes up with the firefox error page that site cannot be found. Tried to use SQL*Plus to create a tablespace, no go. Tried to create a user, no go. Opened all kinds of ports in my firewall (1521 for listener, 8085 for server) and my router for good measure. Nothing. Starting the listener seems to take forever, and it says it has started, but I don't think that is true. Trying to start or stop the database using the menu commands gives me a terminal window with the message "Operation failed, root is not a member of 'dba' group." I really need this to work so I can do some work from home. Anyone have any ideas?
What is your 'SEL:inux' config? In general I've found that SELinux blocks most of the commands needed to set up Oracle XE so I simply turn it off.
SQLPlus uses 1521 for the initial connect with the listener, but the followup connect with the server is on a random port. Selectively opening ports may not do much good.
Oracle was blasted hard by the Unix community in the '90s for using root. "No self respecting *nix administrator would permit the use of root for anything other than system config." So Oracle went out of their way to make sure the only time root is needed - or permitted - is during install. In fact, a good install of Oracle in *nix will not permit root to run the database as it can be a serious security issue. Instead, any user who is part of the ORADBA group (group dba by default) can do all admin. The official Oracle owner, by default 'oracle' can, of course, do it all. -

Install and Configure Oracle client in Fedora core 3
Hi guys
I am raghu ,
I need a help regarding Oracle client installation in Fedora core 3
can any one guide where to get oracle client and installation steps
Thanks
RaghuHello.
You could use paper for installation of 9i or 10g database because client is one of options of installer.
http://ivan.kartik.sk/oracle/install_ora9_fedora.html
http://ivan.kartik.sk/oracle/install_ora10gR2_fedora.html
http://www.oracle.com/technology/tech/linux/install/index.html
You could also install only instant client (so you don't need download all 3 CDs of Oracle database) and set appropriate enviroment.
You could obtain it from:

Reinstallation of oracle 10g on Fedora Core 2
Dear Oracle community,
I tried to install Oracle database 10g software (Enterprise-edition) on
my PC (Fedora Core 2) in two steps. At first the software only
(as described in
http://www.oracle-base.com/articles/10g/OracleDB10gInstallationOnFedora2.php)
and then (using dcba) the example data base "sales".
The first step was succesfully. The second step has led to a "freeze" of
my computer. Input became impossible - so after running about 30 minutes
(100% CPU usage) I stopped my computer switching the power off.
Now I deleted the whole installation of Oracle manually as far as
possible (as far as I know/found the changes). Afterwards I tried to
reinstall the software. This was now impossible - the same "freezing"
effect happened now already in the first step. What are the reasons
for that? Can you help me to solve the problem?
I fear that some configuration files might be now corrupted and I have to
reinstall Fedora2 to be sure that nothing else is damaged.
Up to now I was only a user of a Oracle data base - it is the first time
that I try to install Oracle.
I have read the forum stuff about installation of 10g on Fedora Core 2
but do not find remarks for my problem.
Here are further details which could be important:
My PC has 2 processors and 2GB RAM and 2GB swap space.
The PC is located in a small Intranet and gets its IP-address by DHCP.
LINUX is installed (Fedora 2, kernel 2.6.5-1.358smp), as well as
a Web-server (httpd-2.0.51-2.7.rpm),
Java (j2sdk-1.4.2_05-fcs.rpm) and
tomcat (jakarta-tomcat-4.1.30-LE-jdk14.tar.gz)
(perhaps there is some disturbing interaction between installed
Java-version and the Java-Version supplied by the Oracle software?)
I followed the instructions in the installation description given in the
above mentioned web site but with some minor changes:
- /etc/hosts:
127.0.0.1 obox local_host.local_domain
192.168.2.3 oracle.home obox
- instead to create a directory in which the Oracle software will be
installed:
mkdir -p /u01/app/oracle/product/10.1.0/db_1
chown -R oracle.oinstall /u01
I created the following:
mkdir -p /opt/oracle/10.10
chown -R oracle.oinstall /opt/oracle
- The .bash_profile of the oracle user I modified a little bit:
# Oracle Settings
TMP=/oracle/tmp
ORACLE_BASE=/oracle/oradata #
ORACLE_HOME=/opt/oracle/10.1.0
ORACLE_SID=Test1
LD_LIBRARY_PATH=$ORACLE_HOME/lib:/lib:/usr/lib
# after installation I've seen that I forgot a colon between /lib and
# /usr/lib in LD_LIBRARY_PATH - perhaps this is a reason for hanging
# of the computer installing the example database "sales"?
CLASSPATH=$ORACLE_HOME/JRE:$ORACLE_HOME/jlib:$ORACLE_HOME/rdbms/jlib
# after software installation I did not found $ORACLE_HOME/JRE but
# $ORACLE_HOME/jre - and I changed the CLASSPATH
- the following part I transfered to /etc/profile
if [ $USER = "oracle" ]; then
if [ $SHELL = "/bin/ksh" ]; then
ulimit -p 16384
ulimit -n 65536
else
ulimit -u 16384 -n 65536
fi
fi
- In a first step I installed only the Oracle Software without any
problems (but with the error in the definition of LD_LIBRARY_PATH and
CLASSPATH respectively)
- I performed the post installation steps except that I did not change
the content of /etc/oratab because I did not want to start Oracle
automatically starting the computer
- Then I started the dbca to create the data base "sales". I could enter
all wanted parameters (I named the data base "test1" to be conform
with ORACLE_SID . Then dcba started the creation of the data base
but did not end (hanging)
- I looked for possible errors, corrected the definition of CLASSPATH
and LD_LIBRARY_PATH respectively and wanted to reinstall Oracle
- I applied the following commands to delete all (???) data files
created in the installation process
rm /etc/oratab
rm /etc/oraInst.loc
rm -R /etc/oracle
rm /usr/local/bin/oraenv
rm /usr/local/bin/coraenv
rm /usr/local/bin/dbhome
rm -R /opt/oracle/10.1.0/*
rm -R /opt/oracle/oraInventory
rm -R /oracle/tmp/*
rm -R /oracle/oradata/*
- now (after restart of the PC) I wanted to install the Oracle software
anew. After specifying ORACLE_HOME and running a script as root the
OUI started to load and unzip files from the installation directory
Disk1 and runs in an endless loop (about 66% of the work was done).
- After restart of my PC I made a second trial and already after the
input of the first parameter the OUI runs in an endless loop
- the endless loop: 2 java instances were running using 100% CPU
and input by keyboard was not accepted.
Many thanks in advance
Klaus!Hi Klaus,
Have you had any luck in resolving this problem. It sounds like the exact same problem I am having -
Installing Oracle Linux on Fedora Core (formerly Red Hat)
Hello,
I am very new to Linux having been a recent Windows convert and wanted to find out whether I can talk to someone about installing Oracle on a Fedora Core system. I find the current documentation to be quite daunting for a newbie like me. I am not new to Oracle per se but I am new to installing it on a different operating system. It's also easier for me to chat about my issues than to do a long-winded e-mail. If there is a "guru" in this area that can contact me, I can be reached at 305-491-0417 (cell) or e-mail me at [email protected]
Much appreciated and Thanks,
